I heard about this place a long time ago, and then I forgot about it. Recently, I went looking for a new burger to try, saw the name Doinks, and said, "OH, YEAHHHHH!" Off we went. When we opened the door, I immediately knew I'd love the fries. You could smell the delicious fry smell right away, and I wasn't wrong. Some of the best french fries I've ever had. The burger was great too! My wife got onion rings as a side, and I was like, "Are you nuts?! These fries are going to be so good!" The rings were fantastic though. Solid snap on the onion, which didn't slide out of the breading when I bit down. The service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant itself was clean as a whistle in the very cool Waterloo Arts District, just down the street from Beachland Ballroom. We braved the cold to sit in Doinks Burger Joint and we had a great time! We arrived during happy hour, so I decided to try the burger and bacon cheddar fries offered on the happy hour menu. The burger was a single smashed patty that tasted fresh and was not greasy at all. The fries paired really well with the burger. They were topped with cheese, bacon, sour cream, and green onions. Soooo good! We also tried the side of spicy pickles which were a great side dish. They tasted very fresh and were not too strong with vinegar or sweetness, if that's your preference. The margarita was simple but refreshing. Shout out to the bartender for his craft! My only critique was on the ube cheesecake. The flavor was delicious! Had a subtle vanilla flavor and the texture was great. It just tasted like it had been sitting uncovered in the fridge maybe? Other than that we had a great time and loved the atmosphere. What a great little find. Saw a review and checked it out with a friend. The small menu is welcomed as you know they make what the specialize in, smash burgers. I went with the OG and onions. It's a dollar extra for the onion rings and well worth it. The burger is delicious and a good size. Onion rings were excellent as well with an enourmous serving size. Came on a Friday night, this place's interior is really nice and the staff is kind. Got the OG burger, honestly didn't seem like anything special. Spent ~$17 on it which seems like the price you'd pay for an elevated burger, but this was slightly better than Swenson's in my opinion. Wasn't worth the price bump. We started with drinks. The margarita was good but the mulled cider daisy was awesome. I highly recommend it as it may be seasonal. My second drink was the lemonade with a shot of bourbon and I would recommend that as well.. This is something that I do in the summer with bourbon so tried it in the winter as well. The drinks are reasonably priced. I got the Po Boy burger as I love Cole slaw and it did not disappoint. 10/10. Because the burger has some fries on it pand I wanted something green I went for the wedge salad and it was good wedge salad! my wife got the OG Burger. Perfection in every way. Doinks! What a great place to get burgers! We ordered the Bonn Mi burger (fresh jalapeños, kimchi and cukes with a spicy sauce) with a side of kimchi Mac salad. The vegetables added a refreshing taste and crunch and the kimchi helped cut the greasiness of the burger! The Mac salad was just okay, I think I would have preferred the fries but I'm glad I still tried it out! My bf ordered the sweet heat burger with a side of onion rings. This sandwich was meaty, but it was really good and the jalapeños was a nice touch! Onion rings were good. BUT ORDER THE UBE CHEESECAKE. I repeat, order the cheesecake!! Ube cheesecake looked so dense but once it's in your mouth it's light, fluffy and so creamy! I was so excited to be in the area and to finally check this place out! It's pretty busy for Waterloo Arts Fest but we got through the line and our food quickly. It's a cute spot with bar seating and a few tables. We opted for the OG and kimchi salad. Both were definitely fresh and delicious! I did hear a rumor that this is the best burger in Cleveland and while I will probably keep researching, I am inclined to agree. Was invited to Doinks by a friend a couple of days ago. Been wanting to try it anyway, so I didn't hesitate saying yes. Pretty cool spot on Waterloo. Street parking right in front, or there's a community lot behind the building. I glanced the menu and quickly fixated on the Bonn Mi. Had to try it. Option of fries or upgrade to onion rings. I typically upgrade to onion rings, unless the fries are hand cut - and that they are here! Nice! Fries it is. The burger was good... very tasty and flavorful. The jalapeños and kimchi worked well to emulate the "bahn mi" spirit. What I didn't know is that they are smash burgers. I suppose I should have known when they didn't ask me how I like my burger done. I always get medium. I'm not opposed to smash burgers, but I prefer a thick and juicy patty... and for $16, I thought it's a bit pricey for a smash burger. Price aside, no complaints! Before our food came, my friend insisted that I try their pickle back shot. Pickle what??? They have a bar!!! It's a shot of Jameson chased with a shot of spicy pickle juice. Sounded gross, but I'll play. Shot was smooth! Next was the chaser. I was skeptical, but a few seconds after downing it... it surprisingly worked well. Pretty good! Funky little independent "smash" burger joint in a vintage corner building within the Waterloo Arts District of Clevelend's Collinwood neighborhood, just down the street from the Beachland Ballroom... perfect place to eat ( and drink!) before a show. The OG is a great burger. Get the OG burger. The Sweet Heat is also good, but the BBQ sauce isn't as sweet as its name led me to expect. I'm a sweet sauce gal, and if I would have known the BBQ was so tangy I would have gone with the OG and been happier. Fries were good. Kimchi mac salad is tasty if you're a fan of the sensation of a cold mac salad (I am not). The burgers are $16 and come with a side. Beers are $4-5 dollars (cans only) so a dinner for two adds up fast. I would have liked the option to order a burger on its own and a side separately, because once you get through your burger (that you will want to finish), there's not much room for a whole side order of anything. Would probably make more sense, and be more cost-preferable from a consumer standpoint to be able to split a side of fries between two. I'm a sucker for a solid smashburger and this was one of them. Doinks is on a corner with great decor, mural and limited seating but an open window to the kitchen and a bar that surprises. Their housemade seltzers are well curated for a light cocktail with your food. I got the OG with onion rings. Their onion rings are probably if not the best ones I've had yet. Plenty of them, sweet and well battered with big ol onion circles, fried to a crisp and perfectly brown crunch. The OG had flavor with caramelized onions (vs the usual raw overpowering kind), pickles, shredded lettuce, and doinks sauce. A solid bun made it all the way through consumption without deteriorating or getting soggy and a well seasoned patty complimented the other flavors. The spicy pickle salad is spicy, full of flavor, crunchy, super fresh but I can take heat and would not have made it through the whole thing without my company's help. The wedge salad was reported delicious, though I didnt have a taste to report first hand, it looked damn good. Some might think the sides are pricey additions but they dont disappoint in flavor or amount so commit and split (with your table). Will definitely go back. Would like to confirm that the fries live up to all the other parts, but with onion rings like that I dont know that it matters. My only bummer...no milkshakes to go with all the other deliciousness but they'll see me again regardless. read more

Love this cool little spot on a corner near the downtown North Collinwood arts district. These folks know their way around a flattop grill! We came on a recent Friday night (during the neighborhood's art walk) for some sustenance before strolling. We each ordered an OG smashburger and then two different sides so we could sample each. Honestly, the OG burger was a bit of a sloppy mess, but still tasty with two smashed beef patties, melted American cheese, grilled onions, dill pickle chips and their Doinks sauce. Problem was that the behemoth could not be put down once dug into, lest the whole thing kinda unraveled in the basket. But...the flavor combo could not be denied. I heard so many great things about this place so I wanted to give it a try. I was in the mood for a good turkey burger so I was a little skeptical being that most places don't cook turkey burgers well or take the easy way out by cooking turkey pre made patties. I read the reviews and saw that seating space was limited so I figured we would grab our food and go. Upon entrance it was totally the opposite of what I expected. Nice small diner vibes where you can either sit at a table or at the bar. There was only space at the bar when we entered so we sat there and ordered our drinks (they serve both alcohol and non alcohol options). When you order your food please be prepared to listen for your name because you have to go to kitchen window and pick up your meal. I got the OG burger with turkey patty and it was soooooo very good. I will be back and plan on trying a different burger each time. Also excited to go back for the ube cheesecake that I keep hearing so much about. The only complaint I have is that I am a water girlie and they didn't have any bottled water options and the water that they didn't have for people who sat at that bar was an open pitcher of water that didn't appear to be fresh or inviting. For the customers who sat at table there was a water jug for everyone to get water from. I understand not wanting to have people keep asking for water but some people who are like me prefer bottled if I'm not getting a fresh cup of ice and water. I will be back. This is a cute little hipster spot in the delightfully quirky Collinwood neighborhood. They specialize in smash burgers and are doing the best in the Cleveland area -- beautifully thin and greasy, with those crispy little bits of fond at the edges that are basically the whole point but which so many places can't seem to achieve. Even more welcome was the site of a Steven Kwan life sized cutout featured in a corner of the room. You'll order at the front register, grab any drinks, and then take a seat (hopefully there are some open) while you wait for your food. I always love an open kitchen, which they have, because you can keep track of your order and see the freshness of the food. On the topic of food, we went for the OG to see what the standard situation had to offer, and it was awesome, so I can't wait to go back to try some of the more specialty burger creations. read more

The onion rings came in a heaping portion, and the spicy doinks sauce paired perfectly. They also have a decent bar selection and I really enjoyed their house peace tea seltzer. My only critique is their limited hours. Being closed on Sundays and Mondays, as well as only being open 4-10PM. There were days I wanted to go that they were closed, and I don't always want a smash burger for dinner. Being open for lunch would be a lot more appropriate in my opinion. read more

The smashed burger patties were still juicy while having the laced crispy edge around the patty, the shredded lettuce and pickles added a nice fresh and crunchy contrast, the bun was soft but sturdy to hold the burger together, the caramelized onions added a awesome deep caramelized note, and the Doinks sauce was amazing and brought the whole burger together.
