Currently camping here after avandoning my flagstaff site due to wildfires, thought i was lucky enough to find a replacement last minute.....haha of course not. unfortunately this campground does not enforce quiet hours- its almost midnight and we have had a large group at site A23 screaming, chanting, doing keg stands for actual hours. They threw a burning log out of their pit at one point & just watched it burn out. There are large active wildfires near flagstaff, it would be nice if camp hosts would intervene for safety. The most frustrating inconsiderate campers ruin peace and enjoyment for everyone. I just watched one of the sites pack up and leave minutes ago because of the noise. There is another site on the other side of the campground with loud music and bass playing. It 11:49 at night. To my understanding quiet hours begin at 10? Idk I don't recommend if you enjoy the peacefulness of the outdoors, however if you are looking to tailgate, you've come to the right place. read more

Bravo! After several run-ins with the past camp hosts, we almost gave up on one of our favorite lakes to visit. We decided to give it one more change and boy howdie, you guys got it right! Dogtown lake is off the beaten path in Lovely Williams, Az. You want a 4x4 or off-road capable vehicle as there are some rough dips and bumps in the trek back to the lake. I had a few are we there yet moments....lol But once you reach it.... Magic!!! Simply magical and breathtaking views. Worth the drive! read more

Dogtown Lake is in the Kaibab National Forest and is about 6 miles from Williams, AZ. It's a great spot for camping, fishing and nature hiking. You also get a great view of the nearby Bill Williams mountain. The campground has about 50 sites and includes running water and restrooms. The roads are dirt roads and the campground is less than a mile from the lake. In case you are wondering, Dogtown Lake got its name from the many prairie dog towns that once covered open areas near the lake. Even though those days are long gone, the lake kept the name. The lake is stocked with trout, crappie and catfish. You can also kayak or canoe on the lake. This is a nice getaway if you are looking to get out of the Valley for a couple days. Flagstaff, Bearzona and the Grand Canyon are not too far of drive if you want to make a trip out of your drive up here. read more

After our insane runaround today we decided to forgo our visit to Dogtown Lake. I didn't want to rate the campground since we never made it there but I did make reservations and paid for them in full on Recreation.gov. When I called to cancel after the debacle described below, I realized that others should be warned. I expected to arrive there today and enjoy the serenity of the lake that others have highly rated. I am rating this place 3 stars based on the absolute confusing state of the location and the inability of us to arrive there today based on the lack of GPS accuracy and current road construction in the area. We have traveled all around the Pacific Northwest and Utah, Nevada, and Arizona using my iPhone installed GPS without incident until today. After we found ourselves about 8 miles off the highway and entering past a dead end into a single lane dirt road, we realized that we must be lost. I called the campground and the host immediately said, "You aren't using GPS, are you? It doesn't work to get here." She tried her best to tell me how to get there, we ended up calling her back 3 times as we were driving down an unmarked dirt road towards the lake until we arrived at a fork that looked too rustic for us to tow our travel trailer over. We were told that there are two ways to the lake and the easier one is via 4th street from Williams. We were already far away from the easier mostly paved route. Nevertheless, we decided to go back to the highway and attempt to enter the easier way after going about an hour out of our way. Once to the highway we hit a roadblock since multiple on ramps in the area are closed. Fortunately we were right outside the Williams/Exit 167 KOA by that point and we booked them instead. When I called the host to cancel she totally understood and the reps at Recreation.gov agreed to refund our whole payment for 4 nights at dogtown lake based on what I described. If you want to go here, call the hosts for detailed directions, do not use GPS. read more

Fishing was terrible but the camp ground and bathrooms were clean and the nights were crisp but the days were warm

Loved this place! We drove in for a first come first serve camping spot. It's away from the freeway and noise of town. Lots of camping spaces and quiet at night. There's a host so you have help/info if you need it. On a lake where you can fish from the shore or a small boat. Great place to take pets, too. Will definitely be visiting again. read more

Avoid this campground like the plague. The hosts are scam artists. Before making the reservation I confirmed what the definition of a vehicle is. I was assured it meant the RV itself. We reserved a group spot for two RVs. We showed up with one motor home and a vehicle in tow and the other motor home with a separate driven vehicle that was not towed in at that moment because we had disconnected it earlier. Upon arrival we were told we needed to pay an extra $10 per night for the extra vehicle that wasn't in tow. We didn't have the cash to pay for it and they wouldn't accept credit cards. Had a mild argument with the guy about being assured it was fine for all our vehicles. We even fit all vehicles in the spot. We couldn't pay the extra fee so we left, drove down the road about a mile and found a boondocking spot that was far superior to the campground. I will demand a refund for the misrepresentation of the spot. With great certainty that guy would have pocketed our $20. It was about him and nothing else. Screw this place and that guy. We are happier in this spot. Don't stay at this campground. There are numerous boondocking spots on the road in. You will find something and it'll be free and provide the same services as the campground... nothing. In addition, after returning from our trip I asked for a refund since they didn't provide what was promised. The refund decision was up to the campground hosts. They decided it was ok to refund just one dollar. read more

Got lucky and snagged a spot Wednesday b4 4th of July. Was close to lake also. Margaret and Martin were the camp workers and were amazing. They stop by everyday to talk to my kids about there day and fish they caught. We caught fish everyday. We will go back. I wish they gave military discount since they are a state park. read more

A very nice experience. It's a complete campground, but no frills: Pit toilets and dirt roads. The lake is one of the few still getting stocked with trout by Arizona Game and Fish. Healthy-looking trees surround the spaces, giving a sense of privacy and quiet. It's far enough away from town to seem like camping, but not so far as to make a quick trip to the store a burden. The host has firewood and some fishing supplies for sale. No 4x4 or high clearance necessary to access it, but the road can get rough, and dips can flood. The peace and quiet is sometimes shattered by steam whistles from the Grand Canyon railroad. I had 3 bars of 4G service from Verizon throughout the campground. read more

What a nice little gem near the Grand Canyon. We accidentally took the long way around to the campground thanks to google maps! Going south through Williams is your best bet. We took some weird exit off the I-40 ended up on some pothole filled road and I was scared our sedan couldn't handle. We took it slow and finally arrived at the campground and set up. The sun had already set and there is no street lights/lights even in the bathroom areas. This is nice since there is not a lot of light pollution obstructing the stars. They have a fire ring and table at all of the sites. We got lucky and the previous campers left us some good wood to use. Score! The restrooms were kept clean by the staff but no sink so don't forget to bring some hand sanitizer. Eww. They do have a pump that is drinking water though. We stayed for 2 nights and occupied our time by going on a little hike around the lake, cooking and just enjoying nature and the fresh air. We went back into town before we left I guess that's something to do while staying here but it's like 30 minutes to town but only a few actual miles since the road is rough in spots. Everyone was respectful of the quite hours and it was a nice stay away from the heat of the valley in July. We will come back again but this time more prepared for the elements. It does get a little chilly it went as low as 48° and coming from Phoenix it was freezing to us! A must stay if you want to get out of the city! read more

None of the reviews here are recent I noticed. We are here now. Google maps has directions for 7 miles of one of the worst washboard dirt roads I've ever been on. Got so much dust in my trailer fridge burner is plugged fridge on all the time if I try to fix it and fail=no fridge at all. Road has MANY potholes a foot deep. Quite sure it's been this way for years. Host said people damage their cars getting in here , lucky we didn't break an axle. The cables broke off my inverter so no 110V unless generator is on. Thanks a lot! Other way in 3 miles of bad road but surface is WORSE than the long way. Trash receptacles been locked for years (old sign). Pack trash up to entrance 3 dumpsters , 2 are locked , open one's been overflowing 4 days. More than 75 bags on the ground. People driving by , more dust. Nothing I've stated is exaggerated. We wouldn't stay here again if they paid us. read more

Spent the first week of July tent camping here and had a great experience! The hosts were pleasant and accommodating. We stayed at a double site with some friends, which we were able to reserve ahead of time. We were only allowed to have two cars at the site and had to park one car at the lake which was no problem. It kept the appearance of cars all over down which was actually a plus. Lots of trees which made it feel as though we weren't on top of the campers. There was one night of people partying really loudly and the hosts did a great job shutting it down and not allowing them to stay another night, which was appreciated. The vault toilets were well maintained and clean. Didn't see any trash around the campground, everything was kept up very nicely. The lake was small but still fun for kayaking and fishing. Williams was about a 20 minute drive away which was convenient to restock ice and supplies. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely camp there again. read more
