We had an amazing experience with Dogs without Borders. We applied to foster Denver, and we have fallen in love with him! I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel morally obligated to share this experience because it involves both animal welfare and the way people trying to help are treated. My boyfriend and I found one of this rescue's dogs after she had been intentionally left alone at Rustic Canyon Park at night. The owner later admitted to me that she had hoped someone would simply pick the dog up. She also later texted us asking if we would keep the dog because she no longer wanted her anymore. I have text messages documenting these conversations. Rather than turning our backs on the situation, we opened our home to this dog, paid for her care, spent days with her, and worked to find her a safe future. We had absolutely nothing to gain--we simply didn't want an abandoned dog to end up in danger. The dog also had a reported bite history, making the situation even more serious. I expected the rescue to recognize the gravity of what had happened and work collaboratively to ensure the dog's safety and the safety of the public. Instead, I was met with defensiveness and hostility. During my conversation with the rescue, I was told the owner was "a good person" despite the fact that she had intentionally abandoned the dog, later admitted she no longer wanted her, and asked us to keep her permanently. My concerns were dismissed, and I was spoken to disrespectfully despite the fact that I had stepped in solely to help. I fully understand that the rescue may have had the legal right to take the dog back. That is not my issue. My issue is the complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and appreciation shown toward someone who volunteered their own time, money, and home to protect one of their dogs after it had been abandoned. When they picked the dog up, they refused to provide even a general reassurance about her future or care. While I understand not disclosing confidential information such as a foster or trainer's identity, the complete lack of transparency only added to my concern. I hope Athena is ultimately safe and receives the training and responsible placement she deserves. I also hope this rescue reflects on how it communicates with members of the public who step in to protect animals in crisis. Kindness, accountability, and professionalism should never be too much to ask. read more

Writing this in honor of my late soul dog, Harper. I adopted Harper almost 14 years ago from Dogs Without Borders. DWB are heavily active in social media and I followed them on Facebook. I saw Harper and went to one of the adoption fairs. I first signed up as a foster. Fostering was free and I had two week periods to foster and help dogs socialize at home peacefully before being adopted. Food was provided and one of the responsibility is dropping them off at the adoption fairs. As you can assume, I went back to the adoption fairs only to start the adoption process. The organization truly cares about their dogs, making sure they get the best medical treatment and are placed in the right homes. There is no pressure in adopting the dogs so if you are only capable of committing a short amount of time, they express nothing but gratitude. They finalize the adoption by doing a home inspection, making sure the home and family are suitable for their rescues. My parents have also adopted a dog a few weeks later and the whole experience was organized, comfortable and smooth. I highly recommend fostering, donating to DWB and/or volunteering in this organization. Their staff and network of volunteers are truly angels . read more

We had a wonderful experience working with DWB. We found them to be very communicative and organized. My husband primarily dealt with them on the admin side of things, so I wanted to comment on how they appear to choose their foster parents really well. The woman who fostered the dog we adopted was amazing. She really cared and helped Chloe and Nicole be selective about the best home for what has turned out to be the best little dog ever. DWB rescued him from a South LA shelter and he has very happily landed in a loving home with us. We worked with a few organizations while looking for a rescue pup and I would be happy to work with them again if and when the need arises. Always remember to adopt don't shop!! read more

My wife and I love having a home with 2 small dogs in it. So when we recently had to let our almost 16-year old girl cross the Rainbow Bridge, we knew we needed to find another little dog. You can never replace the dog you lost, but you can fill the void they left behind. When I put the word out that I was looking for a little dog to adopt, one of my clients sent me a picture of a little boy named Spoon that was being fostered by Dogs Without Borders. I showed Spoon's photos to my wife and we both knew we had to try to adopt him. The adoption process has some hurdles, but that's okay. We completed the online adoption form. Next we submitted a video tour of our home. Then I had a nice phone chat with Chloe. We made arrangements to meet Spoon's foster mom, Amanda. Amanda and her mother were so welcoming and kind to my wife and I when they introduced us to Spoon for the first time. I had been warned that Spoon was a bit unsure of men and that he might bark at me initially. He did not and I was relieved. Even better, he took to my wife right away. I took my time and slowly worked my way to a seat next to my wife who was cuddling Spoon. When the time was right I gently took Spoon into my arms and it was good. We knew then that we wanted to proceed with the 1 week foster to adopt trial period. This was very important, since we still have our other dog to consider. During this process we were assigned a foster mentor to help us navigate the process. Nicole was amazing and very supportive. It only took us one day and night to know Spoon was meant to be our dog. So we went ahead and completed the adoption process, signed the documents and paid the adoption fee. Such a bargain for a priceless, perfect little dog. Spoon is the best holiday present we have ever received, and he has quickly become a comfortable and confident member of our family. We are overjoyed, with full hearts and so much gratitude for an organization like Dogs Without Borders. They rescued Spoon from a city shelter and gave him a chance at finding his forever home. We are so thrilled we can be that home for Spoon. If you are looking for the perfect little dog to add to your family, I highly recommend Dogs Without Borders. read more

DWB is awesome! They were very communicative and open about our pup. Chloe made a big effort to make sure our home was a good fit for the dog we were looking at, and we thought it was such a green flag that they put so much effort in! You foster the dog for a week to make sure that they are a right fit, and we really appreciated that and felt it really gave us time to make sure she was the girl for us, and she was! They gave us our snuggliest most adorable girl and we are so grateful. Don't let any negative reviews lead you astray, because they seriously are so great and just want what's best for each dog. I would highly recommend adopting from them! read more

We recently adopted our 3rd angel through Dogs Without Borders and are so grateful for the work they do. Stumbled upon DWB in 2014 when they were hosting an adoption fair at Tailwaggers in Franklin Village. I registered as a foster and fell in love with the first dog I was paired with. Adopting a rescued animal is a big responsibility, but one of the most rewarding commitments I've ever made! Many rescues in this city aren't mission-driven, but DWB is. The team is doing incredible work. Thank you for our sweet Bambi, Lulu, and Cheeks (now named Goose)! read more

Recently adopted a dog from Dogs Without Borders and had an amazing experience! I'd been following them on Instagram for years, and fell in love with a gorgeous chihuahua they posted about. Applied for him, was approved to foster him within a week, was given materials necessary to do so, and was able to adopt him after a week, which I did. They were kind, flexible, and easy to work with! Couldn't have had a better experience! read more

Our 2nd adoption from DWB! Wife and I adopted from DWB first in 2012. This year, ready for a newbie, we knew to look first to Dogs Without Borders for small dogs. We spotted a 7lb approx. 4 yr old, long haired chihuahua named Taco. By the vids and pics his foster posted, he looked like our guy. I went to the next adoption event and it was instant attraction. Taco is now our boy and we love him till death do us part. Adoption was super easy. Everyone was very kind and helpful. Great experience. When we are ready for another, we will be back. I had a wonderful experience with dogs without borders and wanted to add my feedback after seeing that they received some (in my opinion) unhelpful negative feedback which can damage a rescue's ability to help dogs in need. I fostered a dog for 9 months and it was a great experience - I saw him on their Instagram page, submitted my application and after speaking with one of the ladies at the organization was approved for fostering (it was initially meant to be a week but turned into 9 months bc I loved the little guy so much!) The dog was 7, so well-behaved and house-trained. He had bitten people in the past, which is why he was taken in by dogs without borders as he'd been returned previously and couldn't be around children. If I was a citizen (I'm European and have to travel back there) I would have adopted him in a heartbeat. He just received a permanent adopter so I had to give him up but I know it's for his own good to have the stability I may not be able to offer. I'm sorry to see him go but I know that he is always looked after and I could tell Chloe, Kim and Nicole really care about him. I will always be grateful that I met him and got to be in his life thanks to dogs without borders read more

I filled out an application last Weds nite for a small mixed breed puppy and Chloe got back to me the next morning. We spoke on the phone and I let her know I had recently put down my beloved chihuahua of over 11 years. She listened patiently and expressed her condolences. The next morning I drove to the foster's home in Marina Del Rey to meet my new pup. I spent time with her and took her home not long after. She's been an absolute joy and I'm so glad I pulled myself out of the funk I was in and took the first step toward recovery. Thank you, Chloe. You've helped me more than you know. read more

I strongly encourage you to check out Dogs Without Borders if you are looking to adopt a dog. Our 18 year old rescue dog passed away last year. We looked everywhere when we decided to find a new dog to keep our three year old pup company. After several weeks of looking I happened to find Dogs Without Borders and they had a dog that appealed to us. Communication with Chloe was very good and she answered all of my questions. After sending in a video and being vetted, we set up an appointment with the foster to meet Copita. The foster, Jewels, was also very helpful, accommodating and communicative. After making sure that we were a good fit and Copita got along well with our older pup, we proceeded with the adoption. Even after taking Copita, Jewels was available for follow up questions. The fee for adoption is very reasonable. Copita is home now settling in and we love her! There are so many dogs that need good homes. Please be sure to check out Dogs Without Borders! read more

So disappointed with this agency! Adopted a Sr. dog knowing that there may be problems, but there was no disclosure what so ever about what was wrong with this little guy, even after we asked. Terrible heart issues causing fluid in his lungs, said he was house trained and he's not. Of course we'll love him till his end of life but someone else may have already abandoned him. So grateful that there are organizations like DWB and people like Chloe & Nicole working tirelessly to save the lives of these beautiful animals! My sweet Chihuahua passed away 6 months ago and of all the organizations I started looking into for rescue adoptions, Chloe & DWB were the most communicative and wonderful to work with! After a smooth trial foster-to-adopt period, happy to report that Luna (formerly Starla) is now officially part of my family! From the adoption event to all of the great information, emails and resources provided by DWB - I couldn't possibly recommend a better organization. They really get to know their dogs personally and care deeply for them throughout the whole process. They are careful to vet you and your living environment, but make it a transparent and responsive process. Keep up the amazing work! read more

We have had the best experience adopting with DWB! I sent in an application for a cutie patootie named Parker, and I heard back promptly. We sent in the requested home tour video, and heard back immediately that we would be welcome to do a 1 week trial adoption. We had spring break plans with my daughter and they worked with our schedule and with her foster mom to make it sync up. As soon as we decided to proceed, I got an email with the foster mom's info, and we were put in touch. Communication was absolutely top notch. Parker's foster mom, Evie, is the kindest person, a true animal care expert, with such genuine love and attention to animals. She kept in touch with me and helped me over that week with her own experience with Parker. Nicole, my foster mentor, was also wonderful, engaged, and responsive. This is truly a dream team of a rescue organization and I feel really lucky to have been able to adopt from them. We officially adopted Parker (we changed her name to Lulu), and we couldn't be happier! She is such a blessing to all of us. Thank you, so much, for saving her and bringing her into our lives with such professionalism and compassion. read more

We had a professional and caring experience adopting our pup. The foster for Harley was sweet. It all went quickly and yet smoothly.

I understand this happens with strays, but a lot of miscommunication and confusion on important health details related to the dog. I can't express how grateful I am for our new family member, Wally! After mourning the loss of my beloved Shih Tzu for two years, I felt ready to connect with a doggie again. Then two weeks ago I meet Katie, one of the amazing volunteers at DWB. She was so understanding and instantly thought of Wally. Katie connected me to Kim, who was fostering Wally at the time. Kim was informative, sharing Wally's background and the specific care he needed. I decided to start with fostering and after one day I fell in love and told Kim that I was ready to adopt. Kim has been so supportive since the moment I brought home Wally. She coordinated with Chloe and made the adoption process so easy for me. Even after the adoption, Kim still reaches out to make sure we're ok. I love knowing that I can reach out to them for questions or concerns I have. I LOVE this rescue! I have fostered for and adopted from several rescue groups in the area and DWB is by far my favorite! Their team is passionate and compassionate and wonderful to work with! I have fostered for them and now due to a "foster-fail", we fell in love and adopted our wonderful girl Elsie that traveled all the way from Korea! I so admire that DWB is passionately involved with saving dogs from the meat trade industry! One unique aspect of this rescue is that they have a dedicated Foster-Mentor (Nicole) to help with the transition process and offer round the clock guidance! She has been a life saver to me many times! I have never encountered this role with any other rescue group. What an asset! Chloe and Kim have been equally awesome too! I've been fostering dogs for sometime and never had any hiccups until I've started fostering for DWB. I do appreciate the selfless work that they are providing for these dogs but at the same time I think they need to be more considerate of their fosters, who are opening their homes and making themselves available to help. Chloe in particular is extremely rude. She will probably respond to my comment and not take any sort of accountability for her behavior and actions - on the contrary, she will turn this on me or anyone who posts negatively against DWB. Again, the organization itself is great but this particular individual needs a lesson or two on ethics or to step down. I'm hoping this helps Chloe self-reflect on how she can continue to setup DWB/dogs/fosters up for success. read more

I applied for a few pups from them TWICE. The first time I submitted an application they texted me the next morning denying me because of my work schedule, I mentioned I would be free all summer and zero response at all. I switched my hours up so now I could be more flexible with my pup. They failed to even hear me out. Second time I submitted an application, (Friday June 27 not after 6 by the way) for another adorable pup, they told me through IG that a director would reach out to me shorty. Never did. I am very disappointed because there's people like me who really want to adopt and make a difference in an animals life. I really wanted to try this organization out. read more

That dog did not turn out to be a good match for me but Chloe introduced me to a smaller, older dog whose temperament was a great match. She approved a one week trial and the dog has been with us ever since. He's a little sweetie!
