I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel morally obligated to share this experience because it involves both animal welfare and the way people trying to help are treated. My boyfriend and I found one of this rescue's dogs after she had been intentionally left alone at Rustic Canyon Park at night. The owner later admitted to me that she had hoped someone would simply pick the dog up. She also later texted us asking if we would keep the dog because she no longer wanted her anymore. I have text messages documenting these conversations. Rather than turning our backs on the situation, we opened our home to this dog, paid for her care, spent days with her, and worked to find her a safe future. We had absolutely nothing to gain--we simply didn't want an abandoned dog to end up in danger. The dog also had a reported bite history, making the situation even more serious. I expected the rescue to recognize the gravity of what had happened and work collaboratively to ensure the dog's safety and the safety of the public. Instead, I was met with defensiveness and hostility. During my conversation with the rescue, I was told the owner was "a good person" despite the fact that she had intentionally abandoned the dog, later admitted she no longer wanted her, and asked us to keep her permanently. My concerns were dismissed, and I was spoken to disrespectfully despite the fact that I had stepped in solely to help. I fully understand that the rescue may have had the legal right to take the dog back. That is not my issue. My issue is the complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and appreciation shown toward someone who volunteered their own time, money, and home to protect one of their dogs after it had been abandoned. When they picked the dog up, they refused to provide even a general reassurance about her future or care. While I understand not disclosing confidential information such as a foster or trainer's identity, the complete lack of transparency only added to my concern. I hope Athena is ultimately safe and receives the training and responsible placement she deserves. I also hope this rescue reflects on how it communicates with members of the public who step in to protect animals in crisis. Writing this in honor of my late soul dog, Harper. I adopted Harper almost 14 years ago from Dogs Without Borders. DWB are heavily active in social media and I followed them on Facebook. I saw Harper and went to one of the adoption fairs. I first signed up as a foster. Fostering was free and I had two week periods to foster and help dogs socialize at home peacefully before being adopted. Food was provided and one of the responsibility is dropping them off at the adoption fairs. As you can assume, I went back to the adoption fairs only to start the adoption process. The organization truly cares about their dogs, making sure they get the best medical treatment and are placed in the right homes. There is no pressure in adopting the dogs so if you are only capable of committing a short amount of time, they express nothing but gratitude. They finalize the adoption by doing a home inspection, making sure the home and family are suitable for their rescues. My parents have also adopted a dog a few weeks later and the whole experience was organized, comfortable and smooth. We had a wonderful experience working with DWB. We found them to be very communicative and organized. My husband primarily dealt with them on the admin side of things, so I wanted to comment on how they appear to choose their foster parents really well. The woman who fostered the dog we adopted was amazing. She really cared and helped Chloe and Nicole be selective about the best home for what has turned out to be the best little dog ever. DWB rescued him from a South LA shelter and he has very happily landed in a loving home with us. My wife and I love having a home with 2 small dogs in it. So when we recently had to let our almost 16-year old girl cross the Rainbow Bridge, we knew we needed to find another little dog. You can never replace the dog you lost, but you can fill the void they left behind. When I put the word out that I was looking for a little dog to adopt, one of my clients sent me a picture of a little boy named Spoon that was being fostered by Dogs Without Borders. I showed Spoon's photos to my wife and we both knew we had to try to adopt him. The adoption process has some hurdles, but that's okay. We completed the online adoption form. Next we submitted a video tour of our home. Then I had a nice phone chat with Chloe. We made arrangements to meet Spoon's foster mom, Amanda. Amanda and her mother were so welcoming and kind to my wife and I when they introduced us to Spoon for the first time. I had been warned that Spoon was a bit unsure of men and that he might bark at me initially. He did not and I was relieved. Even better, he took to my wife right away. I took my time and slowly worked my way to a seat next to my wife who was cuddling Spoon. When the time was right I gently took Spoon into my arms and it was good. We knew then that we wanted to proceed with the 1 week foster to adopt trial period. This was very important, since we still have our other dog to consider. During this process we were assigned a foster mentor to help us navigate the process. Nicole was amazing and very supportive. It only took us one day and night to know Spoon was meant to be our dog. So we went ahead and completed the adoption process, signed the documents and paid the adoption fee. Such a bargain for a priceless, perfect little dog. Spoon is the best holiday present we have ever received, and he has quickly become a comfortable and confident member of our family. We are overjoyed, with full hearts and so much gratitude for an organization like Dogs Without Borders. They rescued Spoon from a city shelter and gave him a chance at finding his forever home. I had a wonderful experience with dogs without borders and wanted to add my feedback after seeing that they received some (in my opinion) unhelpful negative feedback which can damage a rescue's ability to help dogs in need. I fostered a dog for 9 months and it was a great experience - I saw him on their Instagram page, submitted my application and after speaking with one of the ladies at the organization was approved for fostering (it was initially meant to be a week but turned into 9 months bc I loved the little guy so much!) The dog was 7, so well-behaved and house-trained. He had bitten people in the past, which is why he was taken in by dogs without borders as he'd been returned previously and couldn't be around children. If I was a citizen (I'm European and have to travel back there) I would have adopted him in a heartbeat. He just received a permanent adopter so I had to give him up but I know it's for his own good to have the stability I may not be able to offer. I filled out an application last Weds nite for a small mixed breed puppy and Chloe got back to me the next morning. We spoke on the phone and I let her know I had recently put down my beloved chihuahua of over 11 years. She listened patiently and expressed her condolences. We looked everywhere when we decided to find a new dog to keep our three year old pup company. After several weeks of looking I happened to find Dogs Without Borders and they had a dog that appealed to us. Communication with Chloe was very good and she answered all of my questions. After sending in a video and being vetted, we set up an appointment with the foster to meet Copita. The foster, Jewels, was also very helpful, accommodating and communicative. After making sure that we were a good fit and Copita got along well with our older pup, we proceeded with the adoption. Even after taking Copita, Jewels was available for follow up questions. I applied for a few pups from them TWICE. The first time I submitted an application they texted me the next morning denying me because of my work schedule, I mentioned I would be free all summer and zero response at all. I switched my hours up so now I could be more flexible with my pup. They failed to even hear me out. Second time I submitted an application, (Friday June 27 not after 6 by the way) for another adorable pup, they told me through IG that a director would reach out to me shorty. Never did. I do appreciate the selfless work that they are providing for these dogs but at the same time I think they need to be more considerate of their fosters, who are opening their homes and making themselves available to help. She will probably respond to my comment and not take any sort of accountability for her behavior and actions - on the contrary, she will turn this on me or anyone who posts negatively against DWB. Again, the organization itself is great but this particular individual needs a lesson or two on ethics or to step down.
