I had a great experience with this rescue! They were lovely people who clearly cared about their animals. My gorgeous pup was well socialized, happy, and healthy. They were super responsive- I saw him online, messaged Gia, and adopted him within the next couple of days. They already had his microchip ready to go so I could transfer it to myself and had taken him to the vet to get checked out and given his booster shots before I took him home. I'd been having a hard time with so many rescues- they were expecting application fees before you could even meet any dogs, refused to let anyone other than families adopt, communicating poorly, etc. Second Chance Rescue was a breath of fresh air- they just want to make sure their animals go to forever homes filled with love and affection. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to make the best decision I've made!

I found the cutest puppy on pet finder with Second Chance. The response from Gianella was super quick and I was able to get the adoption process going almost immediately and had my new baby in my arms the next day. I highly recommend Gianella and Second Chance if you are looking to add to your family.

    Nala!

I found Second Chance Rescue through Pet Finder. I had pretty much given up on rescuing a dog when me and my boyfriend saw little Lacie at the time and figured let's give it a shot. I reached out and later that evening heard back with more information and the application. Filled it all out and within a day heard back to meet up that weekend! Gianella sent me all the information and was set to meet Lacie! The day we met Gia brought Lacie and her sister (no she wasn't pressuring us to get both - just wanted to bring them both so we could see them). It was instant love! After spending 30 minutes or so, we decided we were bringing Lacie home, who shortly after got a name change to Nala! It was great because the adoption fee covered her spay, microchip and rabies shot for the later date, which we have done since adopting her back in November! I'm so thankful for finding Second Chance Rescue and Gia! Gia was wonderful through the whole process and still checks in occasionally on Nala! If you're looking for a dog, this is the place to check first!

    Julio Puglesias!

We love our pug, Julio! The process was pretty painless (especially compared to other adoption sites). He had all the necessary paperwork and the transaction did not take very long. Communication was great! I can't imagine my life without him.

We adopted our Blixa, a terrier mix one year old, from Second Chance. Gianella was thorough and helpful throughout the process. Blixa is our absolute joy. We are so grateful!

My second experience was terrible. After my puppy was killed while with me on leash by a reckless driver, I later returned to L&L to look for a new baby. Different set of employees, and both my nephew and I were shocked that one of them seemed to blame me for my puppy being killed. He was rude, insensitive to the circumstance, and he did all he could to throw up roadblocks to helping me. He was an expressionless jerk who had zero empathy or professionalism. I contacted the manager about this, and though she three times promised to call me back, she never did. This is heartless behavior for a place that is supposed to be doing good. I will never go back to that place again. The only reason this is not a 1-star review is because my first experience with them was good. That appears to have been an anomaly. I adopted a pup from Best Friends West LA, which I cannot recommend enough.

Staff here is super friendly and efficient getting everyone checked in and processed for their animal's spay/neuter. The veterinarians here are compassionate and highly efficient proceduralists. Our dog's recovery was so smooth that we were surprised - her incision site was so small and she barely needed her isolation cone. By the next day she was walking around, and her appetite/elimination had returned to normal. The facility itself is so clean and well maintained - the kennels are spotless and tidy, and it's definitely a place where I would trust leaving my household/beloved pet. Parking is narrow and the lot is small, so be careful pulling in and out of the lot. Nearby the side streets are a bit rougher with some shadier types lurking around the corners. If you're coming here for spay/neuter services you're likely here during the day so it's not a factor, but something to be aware of. If you're able to get on their wait list and/or lottery to get seen by their vets, it's totally worth it. Highest recommendation.

A sweet little thing named Oliver who was being fostered with a cat. I emailed the email address listed with the posting stating our interest and asking if he'd be at the next adoption event. No answer. I called and left a message restating our interest and asking if someone would please call me back as the adoption day was supposed to be tomorrow and we'd be disappointed to drive all the way out there and not see him. No answer. Meanwhile, I'd notice Oliver had been taken off the ADLR web page and PetFinder. I said to my husband "Well, if he has been adopted I'd hope that they'd let us know and that it's a good home" Finally, on adoption day, I called the pet store where the adoption was taking place and asked to speak to someone from the organization. Julia told me that Oliver was not there that day and that they hadn't heard back from his foster family, so they assumed he'd been adopted and to email them so they could keep an eye out for a dog/pup that was good with cats (as Oliver was). Now, I understand that this org is run by volunteers, most if not all are, and that there isn't always time to respond immediately. But if you're not returning phone calls and you're not responding to emails AT ALL even several days later, then there's a problem. How are these dogs to find good homes if potential adopters can't even get a response? And I would expect a rescue organization to have better follow-up and love for the dogs they place/foster than to just assume that they've been adopted after not hearing back from those watching over them. My husband and I ended up adopting a one-year old shelter dog from a wonderful woman named Stacy. Working alone, she saves dogs from shelters, places them with friends and then finds good homes for them. She managed to respond to my emails and calls the same day and she's just one person. Not a good experience at all.
