Classes are so expensive. $275. For 5 classes of nose work (not private but with up to 8 people and their dogs taking turns in the training room one at a time). So approx. 15 mins instruction and training per dog. Class is 1.5 hrs. My roommate paid for the series of classes.. and unplanned she ended up in the hospital Emergency Room and had to have emergency orthopedic surgery. She texted and left a VM that she wouldn't be attending the classes the night before class started and asked to Be refunded the $275. They told her said NO to a refund.Too bad if you have an emergency. Our class isn't full and we couldn't fill the spot. But we will let you pay another $137.50 to sign up for another series in the future. So they kept the initial $275. And my roomie paid another 137.50 to be able to take said classes once she's all healed up and can walk again. They gave her a credit of 137.50 if she signed up to take the classes again. If she didn't there is no refund!! So that is 412.50 for 5 classes at approx 15min of ins time each week. So that ends up being a hour and 1/2 of instruction for 412.50. Holy Crap!! A huge rip off and absolutely crap business management for Dogs day out. Ok and my roomie has worked in the dog business in W Seattle for over 30 yrs and has referred dozens of dogs to this establishment over this years. She is going to take the classes that she paid 412.50 for so she isn't out the full amount she paid. But what a huge crock of doo doo. A poor business rule and my god she had to have emergency surgery. I know for a fact she will never refer another client to them or ever return to Dogs Day out for any classes herself. If I were her I'd also let my dog clients who she's referred to this biz about this if it comes up in convo. About this practise. Whatever happened to professional courtesy between biz owners in the same dog world. Or compassion when they end up having emergency surgery. I for one am really floored by this experience my roomie is going through!!! read more

Nope. Called the facility to look into doggie playtime /daycare. Was told I needed to directly email the "owner" manager, whatever she is.. "Erica". Sent a simple email asking how to proceed with playtimes/daycare. SHOT ME DOWN immediately in her reply email. We are FULL, and if your dog hasn't interacted socially before, (I never mentioned anything like that), we aren't a good fit. Didn't know they were SO slammed with business that she can turn down customers for the present time AND for anytime in the future too. Pretty full of yourself there Erica. You aren't the ONLY place in town and you are LUCKY to have customers inquiring into your business. Dont know what gives you the right to act like your Elite and Exclusive. Just a shout out to Dog's Day Out! Not only was I a longtime customer but I was part of a guerrilla survey group who wanted to know about doggie day cares. In both cases DDO passed with flying colors! Our initial resident husky, Cassie, became a better dog (seriously!) as a result of her time socializing and learning the rules at DDO. And all of our subsequent dogs (yup, huskies) trained to be good canine citizens with either Danette or Erika. The positive impact that these two and DDO have made on their local neighborhood is significant! In fact, so considerate of their neighbors that our first husky was not accepted for fear she'd jump the fence and escape/disturb nearby neighbors. Eventually, Cassie was accepted but watched very closely. Ironically, in my volunteer work at the Seattle Animal Shelter I have found that both Danette and Erika have made significant contributions both in person and in helping to write the training materials that guide new dog walking volunteers at SAS. And they hire like-minded, conscientious people at DDO who also give their time to Shelter dogs. Truly, these are the best people! And I say that as an approaching 70 years semi-curmudgeon-ish woman who likes dogs way better than people most of the time. Check our DDO in Ballard or Burien. So much love for Dog's Day Out. Pluses - fear-free, force-free, science-base training methods that work. Laid-back and knowledgeable trainers and staff. Trainers and staff who clearly love and respect dogs. Minuses - I can't just go there to hang out with the dogs. :-p Our family (spouse, dog, and I) have been using DDO's services since our pup, a Catahoula-mix rescue from Louisiana, joined our household in summer 2019. Hard to believe it's been 2.5 years. We've done some private training, a six-session group "Basics" class, and our pup goes to daycare once a week. I'll focus here on the daycare since our experiences with private and group training predated the pandemic. Our pup is so happy at daycare. She wiggle-wags her way up to the door every time and comes home cheerful and relaxed. One of the many things I love about the way DDO runs their daycare is that they're deeply concerned for the emotional, as well as physical, health of the dogs. All of the staff have shown me at various times that they were keeping their eyes on my dog and observing what she enjoyed and what seemed to cause her worry. As guardians for an anxious dog, we really appreciate that they want her to feel good as well as be physically safe. About physical safety, though, I couldn't be happier. The indoor and outdoor space (Ballard location, where the daycare is) is clean and organized. The yard is a big, open, fully-fenced space covered in bark chips, and if I was a dog I'd love to run and play there. The front door is guarded by two gates, one inside and one out, so there are multiple barriers between dogs and the dangers of 15th Avenue NW. Erica, the daycare manager, is consistently awesome at responding to any question, big or small. I really appreciate that if I need to know something she is only an email away and that she'll check with daycare staff if I have a question about my dog that she doesn't know the answer to. I'm really glad I trusted my instincts when I chose DDO out of a list of search engine results. I appreciate that my dog has a fun, safe place to go play with other dogs, and some awesome caring dog-people as part of her extended family. read more

This place is amazing. They care so much about the dogs and pet parents they work with! My reactive cattle dog mango completed the reactive rehab training here which has been a lifesaver to this day in our training journey! We just completed a six-week reactive dog training course with Danette. I'm so glad we signed up! Danette is an incredible teacher for both dogs and their humans. My dog was always eager to go to class, and the improvements she made over the past month and a half surpass all our previous training efforts. We can't wait to go to drop-in days and future classes! I was hesitant to join any class during the COVID-19 pandemic, but social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer were all handled so well during this outdoor course that I never felt at risk during our lessons. This place is AWESOME. I have now sent three dogs here over a nearly ten year period and this place feels like family. We've tried a number of daycares and this is hands down the best. It's small and they know what they are doing in a way that the larger places don't. One of my dogs actually got kicked out of this daycare for bad behavior and I'm still leaving a good review because, guess what? It was the right decision. Not all dogs belong in daycare and some of the larger places don't tell you that. These people know dogs. My dog who currently attends LOVES it. She went to the Burien location for puppy camp and now goes to Ballard twice a week for daycare and she loves it so much. I see there's a bad review from a neighbor and that makes me sad because who moves in next to a doggie daycare and complains about the dogs? My dog nearly busts down the door she's so happy to come here. The consistent regulars and the small size have let her grow her confidence and make a solid group of doggie friends. This place rocks. Danette and Erica are superstars. I've been taking my reactive chi-terrier, Banjo, there for classes since I adopted him in 2011. He's taken all the classes they have to offer, as well as spent some time in the daycare (full disclosure: I worked there for a brief period of time). He is leaps and bounds from where he was when I first adopted him, and it's all thanks to Dog's Day Out and Positive Reinforcement training. The daycare is not like others in the area that take 60+ dogs and hire 16-year-olds who don't have any experience with dog behavior. They hire wisely and keep the dog count to 15 - most of the time even less! They also have an actual backyard for the pups to romp around in - which is a huge plus. Not only that, but Danette and Erica are just awesome people. Their teaching styles include humor, patience, and kindness - which are all important when working with dogs. read more

Dog's Day Out is my savior!! My 1 year old pug goes to doggy day care here 2 days a week and its fantastic. He comes home really tired (!) after playing all day and I actually get to relax with him without all of his extra puppy energy! My favorite things about DDO is that they limit the number of dogs allowed each day to 15. A lot of other places crate the dogs most of the day with a few short free play sessions which is why I stay away from them. But at DDO with this limit, there's a better human to dog ratio and they don't have to spend any time in a crate, they are free to roam and play outside in the bark-chip yard or inside (couch or play room) all day. The staff is also really nice, always enthusiastic to see my pup, and I trust them to take care of him. I would definitely recommend DDO to anyone! read more

Murphy worked on CGC there and got the best foundation in behavior. Both pups did tricks training and are well versed in being funny. It's a great place and well controlled. My Pug Otis attended 'camp' at DDO once a week for three years and it was great for him. He stopped going because I now have him at work each day so he isn't home alone. One of the original doggie daycares in Seattle, DDO distinguishes itself with its down to earth (not trendy) approach. When I first brought my dog, I wasn't sure how a little guy would do with all of the big boys. Owner Danette eased my mind by explaining that they are qualified dog trainers, have strict rules of behavior, and never have more than 12-14 dogs on site. Otis always came home exhausted and happy. They don't over book day care, so you dog is going to get a human that isn't overwhelmed by dogs and has some background in dog training. I think that Danette runs a great dog day care and dog walking business. It's very professional and caring. Danette is positive and easy to work with. The dog day care employees are well trained and patient. The classes that are offered can probably help your dog too. My dog Taco is a small, reactive Rat Terrier/Jack Russell and she taught me how to work with him. Most importantly, how to recognize when he was overwhelmed. Like he wouldn't eat his treats in class cause he was nervous and distracted. So, she said bring in hot dog bits as his treat and then he couldn't refuse :) He now will stay for me and come back to me in an open space (school field, etc.) She knows dog behavior so well. My pup and I did the 5 week Reactive Dog course with Danette and I am so glad we did. My dog has become more fearful and leash reactive since we moved to a crowded and overstimulating area of Seattle. I'd been searching for a class to take but the classes were always full or too far or on weeknights that wouldn't work. Finally I found this class on Saturday mornings. The class is small, 5 dogs, which was perfect. Each dog could get individual attention and it was an easier environment for learning than a huge space with lots of barking, scared dogs. My dog has issues with people, so only having to deal with a handful of humans was good for him too. Danette is fantastic. She is well versed in dog behavior, has a sense of humor (which you need when your dog is trying to eat children and cute little puppies), and had great tips and ideas to help channel nervous energy in a better way. I put all of her suggestions to use and they've really helped. Taking this one class won't be a miracle, your dog won't be "cured". It will teach you how to cope with having a reactive dog, how to distract them from triggers, how to channel their energy in a positive way, and for me it taught me not to be so hard on myself. I am looking forward to taking the nose work class with them in the future. It's a great way to bond with your pet. read more

My family has taken three of our dogs for basic obedience training at Dog's Day Out. All of the classes have been extremely helpful in learning positive training skills. Danette, the owner, is a fantastic trainer--great with dogs of all temperaments as well as people. Her classes are well structured and the handouts helped reinforce what we learned in class. Two of our dogs--a tenacious Bull Terrier and a Chihuahua/Terrier-- "graduated" to difficult training class because of their reactive nature toward other dogs and people. In addition to the group classes, Danette worked with me one-on-one when I needed extra support with a rescue dog who had fear-based people issues and bit a child. She was very responsive and greatly reduced my anxiety and increased my confidence by offering proactive suggestions to prevent more incidents. I highly recommend Dog's Day Out's training classes for people who are new dog owners as well as seasoned ones with all ages of dogs. read more

My dog and I have done the Basics class and weekly daycare at Dogs Day Out. I could not be more impressed. First, the Basics class. I'm a new dog owner and needed A LOT of training- the dog needed some too. Danette was not only a great instructor, but was patient with my new-kid panicky e-mails. At the end of 6 weeks, my dog was much calmer and happier because he knew what I wanted from him. The class is easy to understand and effective. We're going to be enrolling in more classes in the future! Second, the Day Care. I liked bringing him to doggy daycare, but didn't have a good frame of reference. There were a couple slightly more convenient daycares that were open weekends and did boarding so I thought I'd try those to see what we thought. Never. Again. The following are things I didn't know to appreciate about Dogs Day Out before trying the alternative: -It does not smell like dog pee, therefore my dog does not come home smelling like dog pee. -There is an outdoor play area -They limit the number of dogs they allow so everyone gets enough space and attention. You have to have reservations to do daycare. -They expect good behavior from my dog, so he comes back better behaved than when I drop him off -They know my dog as well as I know my dog, if not better and they love him. We're loyal Dogs Day Out-ers forevermore- seriously cannot say enough good things about their services and everyone who works there. read more

I don't know what we would do without Dog's Day Out - our puppy goes twice a week and not only does he get play time, learn social skills, but they reenforce his basic obedience training! I love that there are only 15 dogs, and I adore the staff - it's a wonderful place. Kona has also taken the basic obendience classe and it was positive and structured- and taught my husband and I the tools we needed.
