Thank you Jill! Ziggy has never looked so good and he was so relaxed and happy when I picked him up! Ziggy is my 3 year old English Goldendoodle. He is an easy going happy guy. His former groomer moved and the guy that replaced her was a disaster. His groom was so horrible that it took 12 weeks to grow out his coat enough so that a new groomer could work with it. Friends recommended I call Jill at Doggone It in Newton. Jill was nothing short of amazing with Ziggy. She was very knowledgeable about the breed's grooming needs. She was kind and caring and appreciated the business. Her shop is lovely, it is so inviting, very clean and nicely decorated along with some pet supplies in front. There are large glass windows open to the grooming area so you can see everything going on. Some dogs were enjoying hanging out with other dogs. There are also crates for dogs that prefer to be on their own. A friend of mine went into the shop when Ziggy was getting groomed. She told me when she saw him, he was sitting in front of a drying fan, smiling, with 3 other dogs hanging with him. She said it was funny to see my goofball enjoying all the pampering. The groom was fantastic. Ziggy looked amazing! ... from the top of his head to the bottom of his paws.. every detail was impeccable. Jill is truly an artist. Just as important, it was obvious to me that Ziggy had been well cared for with Jill. We received so many compliments on Ziggy's groom from friends and family! The staff was warm and friendly. It's a very professionally run business. Much care and respect are given to the human and pet. I'm happy to say we have found our new groomer and look forward to coming to Jill and her team at Doggone It for a long time to come. read more

I have a 9 yr. old yellow lab and have been taking her to Doggone-It since she was a puppy. The staff is very nice and really seem to care about the dogs that they groom. My dog is not a fan of being groomed- she often barks and can be sort of a pain. They are still so kind to both of us and accommodate me whenever I need to go. I also call last minute all the time and they take me almost every time. This year Jill, the owner, recommended that I do the de-shedding process because I was complaining about all of the hair coming off of my dog and making a mess of my house. It worked GREAT! I highly recommend it. I took my dog every other week for 4 weeks and I barely had any dog hair in my house at all. All in all...service is great, accommodating, and very friendly! read more

I have hesitated to write this review because i am honestly scared of Jill, the owner. But I feel that I am doing a disservice to other animals if I don't. Plain and simple, Jill, one of the owners, hit my dog in front of me. I had overlooked the chaotic, disorganized and rude staff. I had overlooked the fact that it took them 6-8 hours to groom my dog for 180.00. Because it was very convenient to my house and other friends had used them. My dog had been hit by a car as a puppy and loud noises scared him. When I brought him in the few times (my husband usually did it) he shook and peed in the shop. One of the times he peed, before I could stop it, Jill smacked him. I was shocked and confronted her. I was stunned that she thought she could hit an animal, let alone one that wasn't hers. I was also upset because my dog had surgery on his hipbone where she hit him hard. She yelled loudly that he peed everywhere and got pee on her dog. I think hitting an animal is inexcusable and unacceptable. It is the lowest form of abuse. I think when you own a dog grooming business, hitting an animal is unlawful and terrifying. If she is doing that in front of me, what is going on when no one is there? Had I not been so shocked and scared of Jill ( my husband was also convincing me that it was a one off) I would have immediately reported her to the Better Business Bureau. When I told the other owner what happened, Jill called my husband on his cell screaming. When I confronted her directly much later, she swore and screamed obscenities at me, both denying it and saying that my golden doodle peed on her older dog. I still contemplate whether I should report this to the BBB. read more

We've had our dog groomed here twice now; both times the groomers did an excellent and thorough job and our dog came out looking great (and happy - she clearly had fun while she was there)! It's not cheap but also not the most we've ever paid for a groom, and certainly worth the price given the quality of their work! read more

I brought my 15 year old chow chow there for the last 7 years to be bathed and shaved. My dog was very skidish and they handled her like a champ..she always looked beautiful..She passed away 2 months ago and I now have a new chow puppy who I will take there for his first bath. I just picked my dog up from here and had to give them a raving review. My otherwise sweet 8lb maltipoo is a terror with his hair cuts and other places have said they can't handle him. Unless you tell the staff that you are in a rush to have your dog groomed, your dog will be among the last dogs groomed that day, regardless of when he was brought in. I dropped our dog off at 8:45am and was told I would receive a call when he was done. When no one had called by 1:30pm, I called the store and was told that he would not be ready until 3:30pm. When I asked whether it was normal for grooming to take 7 hours the staff member said, well, yes, it can take that long. "We like to give ourselves enough time." I asked to talk to Jill, the owner, and, after a moment, the staff member returned to say that Jill was too busy to come to the phone. (She was also unavailable to talk when I came to pick the dog up and did not call me that evening, as I had requested). I asked the staff member whether dogs who stay for up to 7 hours are walked at some point during the day and was told, no, only those dogs who have been signed up for walks get walks (who knew?). And as for the dogs who can't hold it, they either go on the floor or in the crate. As if to reassure me, a staff member told me, "All the dogs do it!" I told the staff member that I was on my way to pick up the dog--groomed or not--and suddenly it seemed that he could be done within the next 45 minutes. His wash and cut were fine, but the dog himself was a mess. He whined piteously as I paid the bill and couldn't get out the door fast enough, relieving himself urgently at the first possible patch of grass. Bottom line: Doggone it, just don't do it. read more

Past few times I've come here the prices have all been different. I recently came in for a nail trim and was charged $20! Holy overpriced! I'm use to paying $10-12. Aside from that, the place is clean and the staff is friendly. We will be shopping the price for our next nail trim. read more

This was our first visit. Although the results of the grooming was good I would not go back. The woman who greeted us was so unfriendly when we arrived. The young man that retrieved my dog when I returned was equally cold. If they treat me like that I shudder to think about how my dog was treated. read more

I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people celebrating Doggone It. Our dog went to another Newton groomer, who dismissed her as "too difficult" because she sits down to try to avoid being groomed. A neighbor suggested Doggone It and they have been wonderful with her! They greet her with a real warmth and they do a lovely job: neat, clean haircut, nail trimming etc. The staff clearly understand dogs and love them. They did a good job of grooming my puppy. But they ripped me off. When I asked for a price on the phone, they said it's gonna cost approximately $40~50. But in reality, they charged me $80 for a 8 month old, 9 lb shitzu puppy. They say that it's because they charge $20 for cleaning the teeth. If they charge $80 for a little puppy, how much do they charge for big dogs?! read more

I know it's highly unusual for an employee to write a review, but I really feel the need to share an experience I had at our store. A longtime customer of ours brought in their elderly dog(they stayed with the dog) who has a very tough time being groomed. One of our groomers whom I call the dog whisperer(Michelle) actually was able to take care of their beloved pet with love and patience to the point where we were all overwhelmed with emotion that this gentle soul visibly felt so much better.(yes I cried) All of my co-workers Lou, Michelle, Vanessa( I call her our doodle queen), Hilary and of course Jill whom owns the store as well as grooms truly love all dogs-we are what I would consider Generation C (canine) I always joke that we dog lovers are a cult, we love and appreciate all dogs for the joy they give to us and their owners. Grooming and washing dogs are not for the faint hearted. I have watched with amazement what Jill and her team can do with all heart. I, being the owners of 2 beautiful dogs understand what our dogs mean to their owners. We hug and talk to your dogs the whole time they are with us. My past experience has always been in the corporate world and I am truly impressed with what I see. I can proudly say I work for Jill at Dog gone-it. I have known Jill and the crew at Doggone It for over 5 years . . . they are part of our family! I wouldn't consider taking my dogs anywhere else. I just picked up my dogs this afternoon. I was once again reminded of one of the many reasons why I love Doggone It so much. The entire grooming area at Doggone It is visible through large windows. I took my dog here to get his nails clipped - one of the first nails they clipped too short and he began bleeding everywhere (only second time this has ever happened to him) - I look over and two staff are frantically holding him down to finish - they seemed way too rough. They decided they couldn't cut his back nails but still charged the full $20. DEFINITELY not going back there. :( read more

We brought our adorable maltipoo, a longtime customer of Doggone It, to this establishment for a grooming. He nipped at the groomer, and the groomer assured us that this was a common occurrence and not to worry about it. She told us that part of being a groomer is dealing with scared dogs nipping at them, and lead our dog to the backroom. The owner though heard about what happened and told us to that she is refusing to service our dog. She then assured me that she will be calling the animal control and assured me that she will do everything in her power to get our dog removed from our family. If this sounds like ridiculousness to you, that is because it is. I really think that someone who doesn't care about the well beings of their dogs and would get them removed from their families and homes should not be running a grooming establishment for dogs.
