You may pay a bit more for their hay but their bales are large, heavy and last a long time. I have a horse who is a picky eater and loves the hay I get from Dodge grain. My horse has allergies and can only eat grass hay. Frank makes sure my hay delivery is grass hay. Also, their delivery guys do a great job unloading and stacking the bales of hay in my barn. The fact that they sell chickens and don't limit the amount that you can get is wrong. Called and they said they had some in stock and by the time I drove 20 mins to get there they were gone. It ridiculous that they only got 50 in and yet they don't limit you on how much you can get. Dodge Grain is our go-to for everything to keep the wild birds happy. Large bags of black oil sunflower seeds, great selection of suet, niger and feeders. The staff are always eager to help. Only gave one star because zero stars wasn't an option. Done doing business here! For years, have bought wood pellets here without issue. If pellets were in short supply when I placed order, I was advised as much. When scheduling delivery, always came through as expected, or if delayed, always advised so that I wasn't left inconvenienced. Until this year. When I placed order this year, never advised of any shortage, and this order was placed right after having visited store and seeing TONS of what I always order, on hand and overflowing in their parking lot. Expected agreed upon schedulef delivery on 10/18, after 11am. Called at noon that day to find out where we were in delivery queue, only to be informed, while we were still on the delivery list, that there was no delivery coming due to an ongoing supplier shortage. WHAT?! No early indication of supplier shortage at time I placed order, and no call EVEN ON THE DAY OF DELIVERY (or, even more courteously, the day before) to say there was an issue, and I had to call to find that out?! But then, to add the insult to injury, when I requested delivery of another hardwood brand, I was told they wouldn't be able to deliver today, DESPITE HAVING ALREADY CONFIRMED I WAS ALREADY ON THE DELIVERY SCHEDULE. Hell of a way to run a business. I'm getting outta Dodge. NOW RECOMMENDING Avedisian East, Methuen, MA who are able to accommodate my next day delivery request, and with adequate supply on hand. What a great local family owned business! We just bought 3 little ducklings a few weeks ago and they are growing and thriving. Most of my chickens were from here as well. I found another great place to buy Jack's dog food!!! They carry Taste of the Wild!!!! I ended up buying the 30 lb bag since Jack loves the High Praire sort. They carry so many other high quality pet foods as well. They sell all sorts of farm birds (quail, chickens, etc) and I honestly mistaken them from a distance for a bunch of hamsters feeding on food ... but it was the little chickies feeding with their heads chirping away. HAHA! I will have to go back here to go and peruse more to see other things they sell with supplies etc. The employee who checked my items out helped me carry the bag to my car ... great good ol' fashion service! :) Very nice and personable people here! First and foremost, I will say that Dodge Grain "Supports Our Troops" by giving a military discount -- HUGE POINTS! Here in New England there is not so much of a military presence as in other states and it is pretty uncommon to find places around that give military discounts (not even some national chain movie theatres here). Every person I have met there is awesome. They must have Prozac in their water supply b/c they are all so helpful and cheery. They have a lot of combined knowledge and I have yet to walk away from there unsatisfied or without an answer to my questions. The guys at the loading docks are very prompt and courteous, always offering to load my order. Some of these guys are strong as an ox, carrying two 50 lb bags of feed on one shoulder! I purchased an allotment of pellets (multiple tons) many, many years ago. As time went by, I became more and more concerned whether the agreement would continue to be honored since so much time had passed as I was not using the pellets as much as I thought I was going to due to problems with my pellet stove. However, Jim from Dodge Grain (he's awesome) has been very helpful and really made me comfortable/assured that the agreement would still be honored. We have the pellet stove up and running again, so now I'm back to bringing the pellets home from Dodge Grain, and have already used half a ton from them. It's this type of customer service that separates small businesses like these from the big box stores. We go to Dodge for all our chicken supplies- bags of straw $5, bags of feed-$8 and the best prices on dog food! The 30lb bag of Taste of the Wild grain free food is $40. Amazon and other retailers have it at over $50! I have heard they also deliver to certain towns on set days. I need to call to look into that since sometimes we are low on food and I dont realize it. It would be great to be on an auto delivery with them once a month or something. All the staff is very helpful. We bought our chicks there last February. I have spoken with staff on multiple occasions regarding care for the chickens, and asking opinions/advice. The girls at the counter are always great, smiling and helpful. Great place to go and spend your hard earned money, rather than give it to some giant chain. read more

I just love this place for around 25 yrs now. We always order a good 3 tons pellets for our stove all winter. They deliver as planned and delivery is not expensive. They are so friendly, knowledgeable, "fun" people to be around. My friends get their little hen babies there, the timothy hay is wicked cheap and the best for animals like guinea pig, rabbits, hamsters. In the rare instance when I had to return something, it's no hassle even w/o receipt. Protect your gardens with their fox or coyote urine(and dried coyote/fox "poop!" and other products to keep a garden healthy.They can tell you exactly how to use it. Granted they are pretty much the only game in town, but every single person who I have spoken to from the employees in the store to the loading dock are exceptionally friendly and courteous. They have a great selection and their prices are very reasonable as well. One time I lost my sunglasses at the loading dock. I called to ask them to hold the sunglasses for me if they were turned in. Before I could say another word, the man on the phone went out and looked for at least 10 minutes with another employee looking for my glasses. Really exceptional service. read more

I have 3 little peeping day old chicks in my bathtub, cheeping away, thanks to Jim at Dodge Grain. I stopped in a few weeks ago when I found out they were getting the breed in that I've been searching high and low for. Jim told me everything I needed to know, showed me around, helped me get the minimum of supplies that I would need (waterer, feeder, heat lamp), and said I could pick up the feed and shavings when I pick up the chickies! Service was excellent!! I recently found that my German Shepard is allergic to grain so I needed to a grain free food. I found these types of food to be very expensive. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable in pretty much everything you can think of (lawn management, vegetable gardening, livestock, trapping 'coons, etc.) I particularly enjoy the live poultry. They carry pretty much everything (chickens, pheasants, turkeys, quail, guineas, ducks, geese). We were fairly local, and grain was always delivered on time, fresh and any problems or questions handled beautifully. Through the many years - the folks here have always been very helpful. Free delivery but, the delivery people didn't follow location to leave fence material and it was previously called in and written on receipt by management! I called once I was told it was left in wrong spot and the lady said she would have them return to fix it but never did. I gave 3 stars and was generous. It was large fencing and awkward to move. This caused more work and stress - so don't think they will just do the right thing when making deliveries because they won't! read more

I've rediscovered Dodge Grain. Great company to work with. We now buy our wood pellets from them along with bird seed and other supplies. They deliver the wood pellets with a small fee and stack them in our garage. They deliver within days of the order where our old wood pellet supplier would require a months notice and leave the pallet in our driveway. read more

This place is great because of super employees like Jim O'Toole. I've known him 20 years+/-. He goes above and beyond every time. Recently, he spent 2 months getting Maine Cage Company to make new trays for this old chinchilla cage (made by them) that I had, that would actually fit. I tried to order the trays 3 years ago and they came in wrong (too big and wouldn't fit). I was going to throw a perfectly good cage out from the frustration. I decided to give it one more go this year so I drove the whole double decker cage to Jim. He not only got them to make the 2 trays properly (it took him two rounds), he personally installed the urine guards with the little rings and such. I can't wait to pick it up next week! I bought a Lennox pellet stove from them 2 seasons ago. The unit was a store demo that was being used. I was told that the stove had a 5 year warranty. It was a good deal or so it seamed at the time. We had issues from day one. The stove would go out on lower settings repeatedly. Their technicians have no idea how to fix these stoves. When we called Lennox for help we were told burn units had no warranty. Dodge Grain totally misrepresented this stove and did not make their mistake right. It cost me close to 700.00 to fix the stove. I would buy dog food or grain there but nothing else... read more
