Here is a school that is much needed in the Auburn area…read more If you don't want the public school atmosphere, check out Bluedoor. Students can attend fulltime or just take a class as needed. They offer a-g core classes plus theater, art classes, etc. It's an in-person learning environment two days per week (set up much like college courses) that offers online access to most of the curriculm with the option in some classes to purchase the physical text book. The teachers are good, and some are frankly excellent. No muss, no fuss. It's just about educating your child. The teachers are approachable and responsive, and this is true for all grades (K-12), but I mention it because my son is in high school and although he is getting more mature I still am involved in his education. I like that I can email the teachers and ask whatever I need to ask and get a response quickly. (I say this because my friend's son attends a local highly regarded charter school and the parent emailed one of his teachers. The teacher responded that the student needed to talk to him; that's it - the teacher didn't answer any questions or provide any helpful feedback to the parent. Fast forward a few months and the parent emailed that same teacher again, and the teacher never responded. I mean seriously, this isn't college, these kids aren't 18 or even 17 years old yet, and parents are still responsible for their own kid and their education. !!!!) Bluedoor doesn't have their own organized sports teams, but some community sports organizations come to recruit students to join their teams. This last semester girls tried out for a womens volleyball club. Bluedoor is located at the old Alta Vista School site, which is wonderful. It's a typical school campus with normal kids going from class to class and getting a good education. Just a side note: We watched the most recent theater performance by the Theater Students a couple weekends ago, and man was it fantastic! I was impressed with the acting, the sets, the lighting, and how professional everything was. It was amazing. I swear, the teachers at Bluedoor are The Best.

My heart found its home with My Tutoring Partners, previously Home Tutoring Plus in 2016. I was living in the Bay Area at the time and working for another company. I was pursued by HTP when they saw my resume on LinkedIn. I had room to accept a few students that year. The following year, I moved back to Sacramento and worked for them exclusively Being part of the My Tutoring Partners tutoring team gives me and others the opportunity to be matched to students who will benefit from the differing gifts that we each carry. It also offers us as tutors the support of an admin team to manage the bookkeeping end, which allows us to focus our undivided attention on the students. It's an environment in which we can each experience the truth of the expression that "together we are better" and edify one another for the part we are each doing. My experience is that each person on the team is a 25 out of 5 stars person, and I am extremely grateful to be part of the team.

In the middle of his 3rd grade year, we noticed that spark in him was starting to dim. You can tell his teacher was just killing time until retirement. So we made the choice to get him extra help. We were assigned Ms Cortney and she is absolutely AMAZING. He's catching up to where he needs to be and that spark in him and his passion for learning came back. He just started the 4th grade but we're continuing his tutoring. He has a 1 hour session a week and he can't wait to log on with Ms Cortney. She's very kind and patient and makes learning fun. We couldn't have asked for a better tutor.

Incredibly positive. And she radiates trust and comfort and knowledge -- which both her students and those families lucky enough to have experienced her placement services, immediately recognize. We worked with Ashley when we were looking for a home-school instructor for our 4th grader. Ashley spent lots of time with us to truly understand our unique circumstance and goals, and even provided guidance and feedback to help us fine-tune our education expectations. She has a wealth of knowledge and truly cares about her families and the students she is able to match with a teacher. During the time that she was working with us, she professionally screened several potential candidates, and only sent along resumes for those who passed her stringent and thorough vetting process. We absolutely loved working with Ashley, and would recommend her and her business to any parent or care giver who is considering private tutoring or alternative education for their children.
