Winter was over and I knew that one of the first things I need to is to make sure that our driveway gate will be secured. Got some pricing from different local companies. The crazy thing: range of pricing. From couple hundreds to repair the very old motors, to 10K to change the gate. Doctor Gate was someplace in between. And since they were recommended by one of the architects we are working with we gave them the job. Doctor gate is the best. Wish at would rhymes better... But for sure it is true. Serviced one of our commercial shutters, one we haven't used for at least 5 years. I told the technician Bill that I think we need a new shutter. Let me check he said. He brought a ladder and went up. Did few things, knocked on the bog cover, and I don't know how, but like magic the old shutter came back to life. It started slowly opening till it got to the top. Just some maintenance Bill told me. He brought a bucket with grease and started working. Try again he asked. I turned the key and the shutter went down. Now open again, let it wake up he said. And it did! After few attempts, the shutter started moving smooth and as if it wasnt stuck for many years. Their technician arrived, and I must say, he really got us out of our sleepiness...He immediately took the tool boxes out of the car,climbed the lather,and opened the steel cover of the gate.From there he pulled a chain, and opened the gate.The whole thing took him 5 minutes,and another 15 minutes to teach us how to do it ;) Very quick and very professional. 1 star because they showed up on time. Told me my remote garage receiver was bad and wanted to charge me $400 to swap it out. Fact: 1) The existing receiver was Liftmaster brand that costs $60. Yes, I know that these guys need to make a fair profit, but $340 to connect 3 wires. Really ?? 2) Tech says that only a POWERMASTER brand receiver will work. That is 100% wrong. The door operator only needs to see a dry contact closure ( ie. from a relay ) , and has no idea what brand is being used. Next day, I crawl up the ladder to have a look at the situation thinking I would swap out the receiver myself. I swap it out and it is still dead. I do some trouble shooting and find that the door operator is NOT supplying 24 V to the remote receiver, so in other words it is NOT being supplied power so can't turn on. The issue was NEVER the Receiver as I was told, it was an issue with the door operator. Who knows what would have happened if I paid them the $400 ! I then call another company and explain the issue. They send a tech who confirmed what I said, and 15 minutes later they found a broken wire in the STOP switch line that had to re-connected. Cost $150 and was HAPPY to pay it . read more

Definitely not the quality i had expected. The pros is that they respond quickly for a $45 cash estimate but thats all you really going to get from them. The first time i used them, they didn't really solve the problem and never phoned me back. The second time, they submitted a high quote and never replied to any follow up questions. At the end of the day, these guys are probably okay for light residential garage doors but lack the experience and professionalism for anything more serious. Like many internet companies that lack any real history or physical warehouse or office, its a hit or miss. read more

I didn't really think I will find a company that will come and repair our roll down security door so late at night. But we needed to find one. And Doctor Gate was the first company I called for service, and immediately got a YES as an answer. We will be there in the next hour they told me. And they were right. it took them even less than that. Quickly pulled ladders from the truck, and removed the cover. They were able to lower the security roll down door, and put it back into the tracks. Test it they told me. I was a bit skeptic, and immediately impressed they could make the door work again so quickly. Helped us get our store closed, and they are local so they could come in a short notice. They could fix it with no parts, and bring the gate back into tracks, and helped us close the store. For that they earn 5 stars. What bothered us was the they quote the repair 250$, and when they invoiced us they added the tax. I think they should make it clear in advance. Levi is a life saver! Saturday night my electric gate got stuck as I was closing. I was sure I was going to be at my business till midnight... BUT Levi got here in 15 minutes!! We looked at it and I was sure I was going to need a new gate, Levi said he was going to do his best but couldn't guarantee it wasn't all mangled up on top. And he pulled and leveled each side inch by inch back and forth so that he doesn't damage it more (so patient). Levi came to fix our very old roll down gate. The man was honest right off the bat, and this is something that is hard to find in the world of gate repairs. After having three different companies come out and give us estimates that were nuts, Levi actually suggested maintenance of the gate first and foremost before suggesting we pay hundreds of dollars to replace anything. He was also able to identify an issue that was preventing the gate from rolling up smoothly and fixed it on the spot. After that was done and the gate began to work significantly better, he basically suggested we wait a few months to see how it goes and to consider investing in a better system once it made financial sense for us as a business. After reading positive reviews here on Yelp, I called Dr. Gates because my gates were hard to open and close. They explained to me that they charge a "service fee" of $45 to check out the gates and diagnose the problem. They said the fee would apply to any repair work that they would do. They stopped by and all they did was open and close the gates. They did not remove the covers at the top of the gate to inspect the springs. After trying to talk me into upgrades that I did not want or need, they gave me an estimate to replace the springs and then they asked for their $45 "service fee". I paid the fee. I then called several other gate repair services. None of the other companies charged a fee to come out to inspect the gates and give me an estimate. Seems Dr. Gates' "service fee" is nothing more than charging a fee to give an estimate. I chose another company whose estimate was significantly less expensive than Dr. Gates. The lesson here is never pay any company a "service fee" just to come out and give you an estimate. read more
