Saturday June 27th 5:15 party of two. The gravel parking lot was full. The water was choppy. There was no wait. I ordered a ML while Jason was in the RR. I was informed that the restaurant didn't serve liquor. Sad face. Jason had the same sad face when he tried to order his own. lol We took 5 minutes to order: Jason: crab cakes $15 Me: CFS $16 All entree's are served with bean soup and unlimited salad bar The crab cakes were a little small but Jason enjoyed them . He ate everything. My CFS was so salty I couldn't even try to eat it. I flipped it over and the batter may appear burned, (it's dark!) but it is all seasoning. I boxed it up but ultimately tossed it in the garbage. Because of the hush puppies (free), and beans. And the salad bar ... I didn't leave hungry. Just disappointed. The salad bar is okay. It included salad fixings as well as potato salad and coleslaw. The restroom was 87°, but okay clean. But in the end it was too far away and didn't serve beer. We won't be back.

We got close and Waze had us make a turn on Harris street and my wife panicked. It did not look like a journey meant for us. I proceeded to our destination and the parking lot was packed. We walked in and were greeted and seated. It was a hot day and it was open air seating. It took our bodies about 15 minutes to adjust, and become comfortable. Our server was Edward aka Bubba. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and efficient. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, and were given a very generous portion. Bubba also added a complimentary crawfish and grits dish that was awesome. My wife ordered the fried catfish , and ordered the blackened Mahi. Both dishes were prepared to perfection, and presented tastefully. We received our order in a very reasonable time. We wanted dessert but they were out. Check this out though, when they do have dessert it is on the house. At Pop's Place the prices are very fair, the portions are over the top, and the service was on point and very hospitable. If you are in Texarkana I highly recommend Pop's Place.

The waitress was on a stool smacking her gum and took our order, then turned the bill pad around for me to pay. It had tip options, and I gave a tip. After I paid, I realized I was charged a fee for using a credit card. There were not many people in the restaurant yet, and someone did bring our food to us. However, we had to get up to refill our drinks across the restaurant. After we got home, I got an email from my cardholder that the amount I was charged was increased, but with no explanation. Our meal was$49.99 and we had two teas. I was billed $74.91. I cannot find the receipt, but my tip was not a lot. We returned a couple of days later for dinner. My sister paid this time. We had another family member with us and ordered A LOT of food. It took a while for the food to be prepared and we had to go up a couple of times to get the food because it wasn't ready at once. Again, we had to get up a few times to refill drinks. We will return, but I will be paying cash. No tip and no charge for using a credit card and being charged for something else days later.

The staff pushed tables together so most of us could sit nearby, but when 2 family members arrived 40 minutes later, they were told they couldn't sit with us because "our time was almost up." Less than an hour into our meal, staff asked us to leave--even though we had not finished eating. Another large African American group had the same experience. When I questioned the manager, she said large parties only get one hour, but admitted this information is not posted anywhere. We left feeling disrespected and singled out.
