We are camping for the night at Lake Millwood State Park. Upon arrival to the park, we passed this cute little restaurant. After we checked in at the park and set up camp we went to have dinner. When I say that EVERYTHING was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, it was. Our waitress, Rechelle, was PHENOMENAL, she was super sweet and very attentive. My husband and I shared the seafood platter and ordered fried pickles and he also had the crawfish etouffe. Our friends order the seafood platter also and had alligator bites as an appetizer. Ya know, the first time we passed the place - the parking lot just flat out MT - I mean NOT a SIGN of life! I was thinking - self - that looks like it oughta be a good place - if it was open - but did it survive the coved? YUP! Happy to say it did! Now, ya gotta have fish at a place called the fish bowl - so fried catfish if you will! A decision we did NOT regret. The service started with the fixins' including some light Cole slaw - not over mayonnaised at all. Then the hush puppies - even my self proclaimed connoisseur of hush puppies wife Loved them! Now for that fish - well seasoned - not too much cornmeal crust on the fish - and cooked to perfection. The service - quick and friendly! IS THIS CALABASH, NORTH CAROLINA? There are, in my opinion, two ways to know if people like a restaurant: either there are numerous photos on Yelp of the food it serves and/or is its manager on the floor. Janis was on the floor here. The drive from Texarkana was pleasant. The parking lot was full, and the food was excellent. The atmosphere reminds me of those mom and pop restaurants along the coast of the American South: dim, unromantic lighting, almost dingy, that depends on the people in the place to brighten things up... which they certainly do here. The excellent, cheerful waitress brought us the good stuff: catfish, shrimp, fries, beans, coleslaw, jalapeño and regular cornbread, and an excellent green tomato relish. My mind rushed back to Calabash, North Carolina, a tiny town on the lowlands coast thats reason for existence was thirteen restaurants, their own small fishing fleet and a gas station. People flew in from all over the region to eat there. The Fish Bowl is like that. read more

This had been our favorite place to eat fish for years. My husband loved the gumbo. I loved the fish. We went recently and were completely disappointed. New owners and they have obviously changed to a cheaper fish vendo..I'm guessing since I literally had to spit the one bite I had into my napkin it was soon fishy. My husband returned his gumbo and had it removed from the ticket. We were not informed we would be charged for the fish set up $2.50. And there would not be any addtl beans, hushpuppies, etc.. just the one round. To top off the experience we had a server that did not check on us 1 time once we had our food. We won't be back. Excellent seafood! The Cajun catfish was delicious, and the grilled shrimp equally so. Best coleslaw, beans and hush puppies I've had in awhile too. Worth the drive for anyone coming from Texarkana. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. By far, my favorite place to get catfish in the area! A must visit! read more

Fish is good. Alligator is very good. Service is excellent. Lots of food for the amount you pay. Always really friendly too.
