HI, BETH. HI, RALPH. HI, SLIM. HI, CECIL…read more.. My biscuits and gravy were, well, meh. But then Im from the West Virginia sticks where biscuits and gravy are an art form: huge, flaky, cat-head biscuits brushed with butter, a slight butter crispiness on the bottom and smothered in brown gravy made of a toasted-flour roux. Brown gravy, not this flour and milk stuff that tastes like flour and milk and feels on the tongue like Elmer's glue. What is wrong with this country?! ...anyway... But the real joy of eating here is the chatter of the guests, all seemingly friends who were born and raised here and will die here. I asked when I walked in where the restroom was. "On the right," came the answer from table 6. "There's a sign on the door", came another instruction as I reached for the wrong doorknob. As I rode my motorcycle away, I saw the ubiquitous golden arches on my left. There I would have had better biscuits and tastier gravy, but what fed me wouldnt have been nearly as good. Know what I'm saying?

A patriotic wall of military members is displayed on the wall. My server "BJ" was pleasant, interactive & professional, chatting with each regular local customer by name. Parking lot for customers is also a plus. My breakfast scramble was tasty-riffic. Other than the lack of counter-seating, "Carol's" as folks refer to it, is a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite eatery. My husband ordered the liver and absolutely loved it, which says a lot because it's not easy to find it done right. I had the chicken fried chicken with gravy, and it was delicious, comfort food at its best. Everything was seasoned and spiced to perfection, flavorful without being overwhelming. This is the kind of diner that feels familiar and satisfying, with food that tastes homemade and consistently good. A must-stop if you're traveling through Texarkana and craving classic Southern comfort food.

It has nostalgic decor with a combination of booths and tables. At the height of lunch hour it was very busy but we were promptly seated and served. We happen to be driving through Texarkana at lunchtime and remembered that we had friends from our town, which is an hour away, that rave about it and occasionally for an outing will drive to Texarkana just to eat lunch. I had fried chicken livers, cabbage and the twice baked potato while my husband had the chicken fried chicken. My potato was just average but the fried livers and cabbage were excellent. We both enjoyed our food very much and I appreciated the fact that the tea glasses were large enough that I didn't have to ask for refills. One review complained that there weren't very many chicken livers. I only had about seven livers myself, but they were so huge that I ended up making two meals out of it. We thought the food was very reasonably priced and some of the meals even come with half portions. My husband actually got the half order of the chicken fried chicken and it was still plenty of food.

We sat at the bar and the bartender is beyond lovely. She was very sweet, warm and welcoming. I got an "adult" cherry limeade and my husband got a glass of the smal batch Hochatown whiskey. Both were fantastic. My limeade was both tart with a hint of sweetness- very refreshing and exactly what I wanted after a hike. To start we got the fried mushrooms, they were hot and fresh and delicious! Not too overly bartered and super juicy. I got ranch and my husband got bbq sauce and both are delicious- you can tell they're both made in house! The bbq sauce has a hint of spiciness that we loved. We split the Yard Bird half portion spicy and it was HUGE. Great portion and great flavor!! Super juicy and not overly spicy. We got it with fries, beans and an extra side of fried okra. All I can say is that they're all fantastic and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Very casual place but it was exactly what we were lookin for. Great for couples and families. Go check it out!!

However, we stopped in to the pizza spot near by and it was open so we ordered to go for my youngest son. He got the chicken tenders and fries and they were hot and fresh out the fryer! Even better that they tasted really good for what it was. Upon entering, you could tell it was a quaint local spot that probably had a handful of regulars during the week. They had outdoor seating and a cute bar area where some folks were relaxing. The staff was very friendly and quick to help us with our to go order. We will surely be back and can hopefully sit down to enjoy a meal to see how the other food is.
