We were here for brunch and I did enjoy my bagel but I asked for a side of scramble eggs and was really disappointed by the response that they only cook poached eggs. Well we've given it a second chance and still not average. The food for example we ordered the caprese salad and it came with 5 slices of a barely ripe tomato. I know an heirloom is the choice but a ripe Roma would have been perfect. My wife's pasta was only warm and could have been a microwaveable meal. My pasta with sausage however was really very good. We actually shared mine and took hers home. The ambience is lovely and does have a relaxing feel and takes you to a local Italian ristorante. The service both times has been the bummer part. We waited for menus then they said they only had one, took it from another table and we shared. Jacob didn't offer any suggestions or specials. We ordered a bottle of Pellegrino and they were out of ice for the bucket. He later found some. I refilled out glasses the whole night as he never came back. Didn't check on how the meal was prepared, need anything, just ditched us. Asked about dessert and delivered the check. I've worked fine dining and Veronas falls short for $75 without alcohol. When taking togo be super careful about the packaging! Their oils and sauces spill! Packaging sucks. Cant get the smell out of the car omg. The lasagna was mostly pasta and not that yummy. Olive garden's lasagna is definitely more yummy for like half the price! Crab cakes were decent actually but $24!. Overall felt way way over priced and not that good to deserve Dallas bougie prices. It's not that many nice restaurants in Texarkana so this restaurant is one of my favorites. They have great brunch and great. Customer service is better if you make a reservation and it's easy to do on their website or on Google atmosphere is great for date night. they have a private room for Family functions or acute baby shower or celebration. Really good Italian for Texarkana, ok Italian compared to larger market restaurants. 3.5 rounded up to 4. Positives 5/5 - Nice restaurant helping downtown Texarkana become relavent again. - Nice interior. - My 80 yo mom absolutely adores it. - Good wine list. - The Salmon was cooked perfectly. Mixed 3.5/5 - The food preparation was pretty good, but on this night the main ingredient was garlic. The bread was served with garlic in olive oil. The pasta with the salmon was high in garlic, and the broccolini was garlicy. I like garlic, but this was an over-the-top garlic fest. - The lasagna was mostly layers of pasta. Very little tomato sauce or ricotta between layers. The pasta had a nice bite to it, but there just wasn't much else to it through the middle layers. - The crème brulé was a bit soft inside and the approach for putting a crisp sugar glaze on the top, which looked like lighting some spirit on top (probably Vodka or Everclear) didn't result in a crispy shell like a traditional torch makes. Marginal 3/5 - No fresh grated parmesan cheese. I never expect this at traditional Italian restaurants in the US, but a restaurant marketed as upper echelon, they always have it. I asked my waitress, and instead of saying "sure, let me get you some", she said they stopped grating at the table due to CoVid. I can accept no local table grating, but a bowl could have been brought out. - On the reservation I put it was my mom's 80th birthday, but that did not translate to any acknowledgment by anyone. Maybe an OpenTable booking translation, but the thing I usually get in higher end restaurants is attention to the small details like this. Purist Italian Nit-Pick Most of the pasta is not made fresh in-house. My waitress said only the lasagna pasta is made in-house. By this I mean mixing flour and egg, kneading, rolling, shaping etc. If you eat at 99.9% restaurants that are Italian in the US, they use premade pasta just like this. But when I go to nicer Italian restaurants in LA or Miami or even Cincinnati, the pasta is hand made. It does cost more due to kitchen labor and maybe the T-Town market won't support the associated menu pricing, so that is why I call it a Purist Italian nit-pick. This is often a hard tradeoff. Will I go back? Yes. Like I started with, for Texarkana this is a really good restaurant and is unique. I will just temper my expectations to match the market. - read more

I went for dinner after a 2.5 hr long drive back the hotel. Verona is located in downtown Texarkana. I wouldn't say it's in a run down part of town but it seems like it might be heading that direction. The roadway construction might unnecessarily add to that feeling too. Also, if your GPS tried to direct you via State Line Ave I would pick an alternate route once you get to 9th St. At 9th St all the roads suddenly skew 45 degrees so State Line Ave start creating weird intersections that don't have any pavement markings. Once you get to Verona it's all good. They have a great wine list and a solid Italian menu. There were a couple of entrees that stood out to me but I ended up going with the roasted duck and mushroom risotto. The server brought out bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. That was pretty nice except I ate so much bread I could barely move by the time the entree came out. The duck was really good. It was cooked medium rare and the skin wasn't crunch but it was definitely crisp. They must cook the duck and the asparagus in the same pan. They had similar salt crusts on them. The risotto had a ton of mushrooms in it. That's a plus in my book. It was a little more expensive that what I was expecting for Texarkana. After a 20% tip it was $37 and all I had was the entree and water. read more

What a nice surprise. We were visiting Texarkana and had a short window for lunch, looking for something near downtown. Literally stumbled across Verona, agreed we've give it a try. Was not expecting a place this nice. There was a little service hiccup at first, quickly rectified. We had the brunch, which started with a nice plate of bread and oil. I have seen others complain of "too much garlic" -- no such thing for me. For our entrees, my wife had the crepes, I had the shrimp and polenta. Both were outstanding, and much bigger portions than we expected. I almost finished mine, but she only made it (almost) halfway through hers, so she had a treat for later. Prices were quite reasonable in light of the niceness of the restaurant and the quality (and quantity) of food. We don't get to Texarkana often, but will definitely seek this place out when we do return. read more

The Tiramasiu I had for dessert was watery. My husband had bisquits and gravy and did not recognize any of it. Verona was the highlight of our dining experience on our latest road trip. Texarkana is a bleak and in interesting Stateline city. But. All if a sudden, that bleakness changes into serene and welcoming Verona. Casually elegant and very inviting the atmosphere lends to the equally delicious food. Nicole was a fantastic server and made our visit even more enjoyable. The food was well prepared except for the overly peppered grilled lobster and shrimp risotto special. Verona really hit the spot. After a long day on the road, eating fast food for lunch, when we stopped in Texarkana we got a high quality meal to bring back to our hotel. My wife really enjoyed the Salmon, and I thought the pollo pepperoncino was excellent. The bread was also outstanding. Here is the thing. I know it's Texarkana, but no one, not a single person was wearing a mask. NOT EVEN THE SERVERS! And people were staring at mine. Texarkana is the biggest little town on our way back east, and I know it is in very conservative territory, but seriously? Zero masks around here, and I know for a fact there is a spike in the number of new virus cases in the county. Went again and had the fabulous Duck Risotto. We'd been to Verona once before and loved it, but tonight's experience was terrible and we won't go back. We were seated immediately and then it all fell apart. A table was seated after us and served before us. A large table ordered after us and was served before us. We had no communication from our server, who never told us her name. Qhen we finally got the main course after an hour, my fiance's dish looked like dog food. It was a plate with an an approximately one-centimeter chicken patty smothered in gravy and mushrooms. When we asked the server why service was so slow, if it was busier than usual, she said no, we're this busy every night. When we told her we were unhappy it took so long and that it took an hour before we received our order, she started making excuses, claiming that most "fine dining" establishments take TWO hours for three courses. We had the Calamari Fritti and Arancini balls as well as splitting a caesar salad. The service was quick and attentive throughout our visit. Just recently moved here and was looking for a place for date night. Luckily we found this amazing place. The staff was wonderful and professional; not to mention the delicious food! My wife and I were driving through Arkansas on our way to Dallas and we decided to stop for a late dinner. We know nothing nor anyone in Texarkana. A Quick Review of TripAdvisor and Yelp pointed us to The Verona Restaurant in Texarkana, AR. Boy are we happy we did. First of all, we owe a huge "Thank You" to the GM who invited us to a table in his fine restaurant while grossly under-dressed (in our road clothes). This place offers about twenty tables seating 2 to 8 diners. It has very attractive furnishings and would serve perfectly for a couples date night. Our dinners included: a crusty baguette with fine olive oil for dipping. I would recommend that the owner add a italian spice blend to add to the oil for a dipping sauce. Next we had dinner salads: my was a house and my wife had a teaser salad. Yum! Our next course included a pasta with protein combo. I forget the terms but mine was a garlicky pasta with parmesan cheese. It was hugely flavorful. Next I had a chicken cutlet in a flavorful lemon / roaster peppers sauce. Huge flavor. My wife enjoyed a classic pasta with meat sauce. She looks SO happy with her meal. Last let me remember to acknowledge the server and staff. Everyone was cordial, warm and helpful.
