Whiskey Selection

My favorite BBQ in Milwaukee. Lots of space and always able to grab a chair at the bar. I love getting the brisket sandwich (fatty!). The sauces are AMAZING! I like to mix the Sweet BBQ with North Carolina. I do wish this place had some specials durning the week as it has so much potential and would love to see this place busier!

Docs club? Hm

My wife and I were here for a convention at the Baird center and were left with few savory options in the area. We ordered the Docs club sandwich with fries, the brisket plate with fries and dirty rice. Very expensive for the small portion of brisket and the food overall didn't have that "downtown" quality and taste. The Doc club sourdough bread was not toasted like most places do, there was zero taste! Bland. I think this restaurant is totally against using seasoning. The brisket was more fatty than I asked for. Hm. Very tender and juicy (it's the only reason I gave it two stars) The dirty rice had a great aroma but zero taste and portion was in a sauce tiny cup? The bar manager lady was training a young man on the pick-up delivery section and she opened up our bag which was stapled to look through it all. I didn't sense it was to make sure I had everything but rather "let me make sure everything is here so these people won't say something is missing like they normally do". Will not return.

Level setting here. In Milwaukee for a sales trip. Staying at the hotel in the same building (Doc's has an entrance in the hotel lobby). Quiet Tuesday 5pm arrival. Service attentive and knowledgeable. Drinks served promptly and up to par (Whiskey Sour for my travel partner and Gin and Tonic for me). Ordered the L.A. Caviar for appetizer (see foto). New dish for me. Was interesting and will attempt to replicate at home. Travel partner has mac and cheese with a grilled cheese and brisket sandwich. Could have been better. Wasn't bad. Will check back after second Whiskey Sour is finished. I ordered lean brisket with sides of dirty rice and the beans. Lean brisket was lean and sliced. Overall tasty and tried the different sauces. Dirty rice was quite tasty and same with the beans. Both had some heat. Overall quality, quantity and value are in line. To you TEXANS giving negative reviews, please go back to Texas!!! Will well eat here again.

I'm not sure if this would be a place I recommend to others yet. One dish I had was amazing (the packers loaded spuds) the other dish was pretty gross (brisket grilled cheese and mac n cheese). The customer service was great, my server was very nice. My food came out in a decent amount of time. The Packers Tots were everything and more! They were cheesy, meaty, with that hint of bbq sweetness. Every layer of food produced a new layer of flavor. The brisket grilled cheese, however, was the exact opposite. I thought it would be hard to mess it up its meat and cheese melted together, but the flavors they used worked against one another. And don't get me started on the very sad Mac n cheese. I would come back just for those Packers Tots, but only that.

We were in town for a conference last month and staying at a nearby hotel, so we decided to give this BBQ spot a try. I've been craving good barbecue for a while, and I had high hopes and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. For context, I live in California now, where BBQ tends to come in small portions with big price tags. So I was pleasantly surprised not only by the flavor but also by the portion sizes here. I ordered the one-meat platter and almost went for the two-meat but glad I didn't, because the serving was generous enough to have leftovers for the next day. Service was lightning fast and super friendly. Drinks hit the table in about a minute, and food followed just a couple minutes later. The space itself is big, with plenty of seating and a well-stocked bar featuring some top-shelf liquor. One unexpected (but very welcome) surprise? They offer an extensive cannabis beverage menu which we all decided to try out. Definitely a first for me at a BBQ joint! Our conference returns to Milwaukee next year, and I'm already planning to come back. Great food, fast service, and some unique twists you don't see everywhere.

Wasn't bad but it felt like I was invited to my acquaintance's house for the first time as a third grader and their family's food is really not that good at all but you must eat it and try to save it with any sauces or condiments you can find and have access to and being polite about it at the same time. Good thing is that they have a lot of sauces here and I loved them! (needs flavor here....)

Drinks. Peach tea was the best.

We had an event to attend downtown so we decided to give a new place a try. This brought us to Doc's. We had a very attentive waitress. The ambiance was just so so. Nothing special, your typical feel of a hall. The food was delicious. The ribs were really good. Would definitely order them again. I had the Brussels Sprouts as a side. They were good but comparing them to others I have had they fell short. My husband had the special, a brisket grilled cheese that he said was yummy. We also included drinks... the peach tea. We could have sat and drank more. Recommend. Good BBQ, you should give it a try. The preparation of the meats was spot on!!

WINGS! Get the wings! Great place for wings and sometimes they're even half off. Have had multiple items here and never really disappoints. If you come with a group try the platter where you get to try a little of everything. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Food tends to come out pretty fast.

Smoked turkey plate with dirty rice and mac 'n' cheese

If staying at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee (or if in the neighborhood) and in search of good barbecue nearby, this is the place. Five different barbecue sauces are available at the table depending on what you like (sweet, Memphis-style, Carolina, Texas heat, or Alabama-style). The smoked turkey had great flavor, but the dirty rice really hit out the park with the seasonings. The mac 'n' cheese was just ok. The servers working were very fast and friendly. I enjoyed this place and would visit next time I am in Milwaukee.

Awesome BBQ place in downtown MKE. Their drink list is awesome from cocktails through local MKE craftsman beers even a 2 Michelin star rated beer . BBQ s are excellent too. From ribs, smoked meats including turkey aand Local Usinger sausage. The Usinger sausage is great , not too salty to my liking. Meats are Smokey and tender falling off from the bone. They occasionally ran out of meat towards the end of the day. Once they ran out they don't make it until next day. Service is awesome too. If you're in downtown MKE, a must try.

The guy working the counter was doing a great job and gave me a rib tip sample that was delicious. I ordered the rib dinner that comes with two sides for $20, unfortunately they were out of greens so Mac and beans would be my sides. I always say if you smell smoke/grill in the air outside it's most like going to be good and I smelled the grill as I walked up, not a wood smoke smell. My rib dinner looked good that was only 5 bones with a nice bark. The ribs were moist/tender fall odd the bone with a backyard grill flavor, not a wood smoke flavor. The rids were delicious and tasty with the seasoned rub. The beans were good but very sweet. The Mac and cheese was over cooked to mush, not Al dente and slightly creamy with a small cheese flavor topped with cheese. The Mac and cheese could have been seasoned better like the ribs but still good. Overall I had a great lunch and I like the grill flavor because most places use wood smoke so I like this style to break up bbq from time to time. I would definitely stop back for more of the menu.

They haven't been open long, so be patient as they work to get into a groove. I've had their brisket, pulled pork, rib tips, baby back ribs, chicken, and sausage and all have been delicious! I still want to try their smoked turkey and turkey leg, but their meats have been among the best BBQ I've had! The chicken, in particular far exceeded my expectations! Their sides are solid. I noticed an improvement in texture with the baked beans feom the first visit to most recent visit, but I liked the mac-n-cheese better on the first visit. It was creamier and better seasoned the first time. Their creamy Cole slaw and greens were other sides I enjoyed. The fries and potato salad were good, but didn't stand out to me. They did not have cornbread on the menu. You can order sandwiches, dinners, or 2 and 3-meat combos. Important things to note: 1. They have a dining room. 2. They will put sauce on most, if not all, of their smoked meats, so if you want no sauce or sauce on the side, then tell them when you order. I am a smoked BBQ purist. I want to taste the rub and their smoking method. Their sauce is good, but their meats are great and don't need sauce. 3. They don't have a website, and it's not easy to find their menu on their Facebook page. 4. They are open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. 5. They accept cash and cards. Definitely check this place out because their BBQ is really good! I will be back!

The place had a steady flow of walk in and delivery with some items sold out 12:30 ish already. Service was fast and friendly with no issues. This is cafeteria style and not cooked to order with everything in a steam/hot table counter.I would do the fried chicken, greens, backed Mac and cheese with a corn bread muffin. The muffin had a good corn flavor but it was that dry corse saw dust texture, I prefer the moist cakey kind but it was still good. The greens were chunk stems and leafs that was not seasoned very well but still good. The backed Mac and cheese had a nice cheese flavor in a creamy sauce with pasta cooked past Al dente and on the mushy side, the bites with the backed cheese on top were the tastiest. My fried chicken was a leg, thigh and a wing. My first thought was that this fried chicken was seasoned very well. As expected from a hot table pre cooked it wasn't crispy/hot like fresh from the oil. It wasn't super moist and neither dry, something in the middle tender chicken. Overall I enjoyed my soul food lunch and I can see why it's a popular place.

I started cutting into the brisket and was immediately turned off. This was like cutting into a piece of beef jerky. It was try and tough and I shouldn't have even put it in my mouth, but I reluctantly did! Oh wait, this isn't that forum in that adult magazine.... But Yuck Yuck Yuck to that dry meat. Luckily, there was a LOT of brisket so I fished around and cut a piece from the other end and wow... BUTTER! This was some of the juiciest brisket I've had. The fat rendered nicely and it was still meaty. SOOOO good. Yes, this good part was connected to the bad part. The $6 add on for the sausage was pretty good as well, as was the side of Mac n Cheese. With the add on, it's probably a shareable plate for most people, including me these days. Parking is limited as it's kind of in a neighborhood, and the Redbar itself has a locals, dive-bar vibe, which isn't a bad thing. Just something you should know! Cheap beers though!

Well I'm definitely doing the rib tips but it was too early because they just went on the grill, see my pictures so I would have to stop back later in the day. 3 hours went by so I went back and asked if he still had some rib tips left and he said yes so I'm down with that. He is there Tuesday to Saturday 10:30 to 4pm he says. The rib tips looked amazing on the grill and I took a picture so you could see the before and after pictures of the cooked rib rips. I ordered the meat only for $10 because the sides didn't interest at all and did my car smell so good so I pulled over because I couldn't wait to try them. The rib tips had a nice looking bark that was seasoned nicely and tasty I thought. The rib meat had that little chew that I like because I don't like the mush fall off the bone meat. The rib tips were meaty and not all cartilage with most of the meat chopped off like some places. The meat was very tasty with that bark and a deep grilled flavor that I really liked, like a backyard bbq. I really like that he uses charcoal to cook his food because it's so hard to find places that cook with charcoal anymore and he seems like a like a really nice guy and he let me take my pictures which helps his business. I didn't even use the bbq sauce because the meat stands on its own by the way. There is no bbq in the immediate area that I can think of so this is a nice addition to the neighborhood if your looking for some tasty rib tips here you go. I would definitely go back for some rib tips again because as much as I like ribs I do like doing tips from time to time.

I figured I would either skip the bun or just eat a little of it. I was told they were out of the prime rib, but she mentioned that all of their meats are great, especially the brisket. That's when I remembered that the Texan brisket sandwich is what I had planned to order anyway, so I went with that. The Texan is served on a brioche bun with tangy dill pickle chips on the bottom bun, finished with Smokin Jacks tangy Texas BBQ sauce. The sandwich was $16, and tax isn't included in the price. It was ready in about five minutes, and the lady who took my order called me by name and told me to have a nice day. The brisket was indeed good, and once Mr. R sampled it he commented on it being really good as well. The sauce had a bit of heat to it. I'd definitely order it again, but now I'm on a mission to try this smoked prime rib. Smokin' Jack's is located in the corner near the Wisconsin Avenue side, near where Applebee's used to be, next to the shuffleboard/games floor. I also noticed a swanky bar space adjacent to it, which I'm guessing is used for private events.
