We wanted seafood and every place we went was packed. We used Yelp and found this restaurant and we were not disappointed. After checking in and being told it would take thirty minutes, we were seated in ten. I have wanted my wife to have she crab soup and she loved it. Tasty dish. When we go to new seafood places, one of us tries the shrimp and grits. My wife ordered this time. It was good; I tasted. The seafood pasta which the scallops was great. We love coming to this local spot! Each of our visiting family members have enjoyed visiting here as well! The apps are our favorite to indulge in. The Buffalo shrimp, fried mushrooms, and hushpuppies are our go-to. We've also enjoyed other apps, such as the fried onion loaf. Oh! The mussels could have been hotter (temperature- wise) but were nonetheless tasty and plump in a delicious broth with a very nice bread stick to soak it up. The fried scallops were tender and had good flavor and were hot. The salad was really fresh and a great variety of ingredients. Really enjoyed it. Nicely presented. This place is obviously used to high volume traffic. The staff is efficient and quick. Food comes out fast. Next time I will eat my salad before I order the rest of my meal. Not a negative. This is our 4th trip to Dockside in 6 years. Living 524 miles away (Cape Coral, FL) makes it problematic to just hop in the car, but it is worth detouring 30 miles off I-95 to make a dinner . . . The selections were fresh & tasted perfect. The ambience is busy n crowded with locals, tourists n ex military. It is situated over Port Royal sound with an attached marina. This is a great restaurant. They have a great selection of seafood cooked to perfection. The staff is friendly,, outgoing and helpful. Michael one of the bar staff gives outstanding service. I hate to say anything bad about Dockside but the parking is horrible. The parking lot is rough,, uneven and parking are not marked so many patrons take up more than one space. I literally have never done this but almost left me no choice. Absolutely terribly managed. 7 person party with two elderly people.Told us 45-60 minute wait. After 50 plus minutes told us "we were next" ... then proceeded to seat two other larger parties ahead of us. When we pointed this out they said that we weren't skipped but they had called ahead. But when I had called ahead two hours prior for a reservation, they said no reservations. It's now hour and 20 waiting and grandma is melting. No offer of drinks. No place to sit inside. I finally asked why they told us 30 minutes ago we were next, the manager points to a table and says they have been sitting for 30 minutes and won't leave and says there is nothing he can do. So instead of doing his job and helping move the table appropriately. He points me out to the table and says that I need them to leave because they have been waiting so long. So then when the table does leave they make comments to my kids and in laws. I tell manager that it was completely uncool. No apologies. Nothing comped. Forced gratuity on top (even though I would have tipped because wait staff was good). Ultimately just a really really bad manager that set bad expectations. But that happens ... the cowardly putting this on me is why I'm here . Food was meh and overpriced. We come to Fripp a ton and just bought a lot. I will never go back here. I've lived here for about 6 months and every time I drove past dockside around dinner time, the parking lot was so busy it gave me anxiety attacks every time I looked at it. I'd have to pull over and breath in a paper bag (just kidding). Well I had some family come in and said they wanted to try it. Long story short I told them the only way I was going was on a week night during off season. We ended going up on a Wednesday around 5. There weren't many people there at all. I got the seafood platter. Let me rephrase that. I ORDERED the platter. My mother in law ordered some fancy whole flounder, fried with some fancy sauce. When the waiter put the food in front of her, I saw her make the yuck face. So I came up with the genius plan of switching my few pieces of fried flounder for her fancy, huge portion of flounder. Lord did I make the right decision. Some would call that getting over. I call it helping out. It was one of the better seafood dishes I've had. All the other seafood on my plate (shrimp and oysters) was good. like any local seafood, but that fancy flounder hit different (I'm too lazy to look up the name). I had to fight my wife off away from it. I let her get a few bites because she threatened to make me sleep on the couch if I didn't. I considered it though. Everyone liked their plates. We knew it was worth the wait from the looks of the food coming out from the kitchen. The staff were helpful and cheerful. We realized a couple was leaving the bar so we decided to eat there. That was an awesome experience! The bartender made the evening. He was welcoming and had a good sense of humor. He guided us through the menu, specials we might be interested in, and off we went! When we arrived, party of two, the hostess said 30-35 minutes before we would be seated. About 5 minutes after telling us that we were at our table! Not the best experience. We hoped that the 35 minute wait meant that the food and experience would be incredible, but we were gen genuinely disappointed. I get that it's busy but they crammed the table so close together servers and people kept hitting my chair over and over, another server in the section we were in shoved his self in between the tables instead of walking around. I get the need to hustle but that's just plain rude. As soon as we ordered, our appetizers came out within minutes and food came out within minutes after that. Food went cold because we couldn't finish fast enough. I got the bourbon glazed salmon and it left little to be desired. We were hoping for a traditional southern boil. It lacked a lot of flavor was drowned in liquid but we weren't givens gloves or any way to protect our hands and no wet naps. Really disappointed in the seafood, not what I'd hope from the low country. Absolutely the best, freshest seafood I've ever eaten at a restaurant. The platter was insanely large...I actually thought my server was carrying a tray not my plate. Ambiance was clean, respectful....no loud music. Service was fantastic. The crab and scallops were absolutely divine...and I finished my entire platter besides a few spoons of veggies. The drinks were spot on, and you could definitely taste the alcohol. I was utterly stuffed, so no room for dessert. I love the fact that you can see the pier on the other side, The seafood is just that fresh. I would drive 2 hours out of my way just to eat here again.
