My husband, young kids and I spent a day hiking and were looking for dinner on our way back to our AirBNB so this fit the bill. The staff was so friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The food was delicious. Our kids had glazed ribs and Mac and cheese, I had the brisket and my husband had the chili. Everything was great! We ended up boxing up some ribs and one of the kids Mac and cheese to finish later (I had to fight the Mac and cheese away from my husband so he didn't finish it there, haha). I travel the country for work. I've tried lots of places to eat, and while many have been pretty good, the food here was quite bland. Mac and cheese, pulled pork, and potato salad was almost like they threw it in the oven and didn't season any of it. The service was alright. But I think I won't be eating any barbecue again for a while. read more

Amazing dinner! As a family we had a turkey plate, pulled pork plate, mac-n-cheese, rib plate, and samples all the salads! Delicious! Very friendly staff! We met the owner, he's amazing too! We overheard someone talking about Doc Brown's while we were shoe shopping. Bleu cheese coleslaw was all we needed to know. So glad we gave them a try! Rib tips with fried cabbage, homemade smoked sausage with Mac and cheese pie and collard greens, and a flight of coleslaw. The food and staff were great! Found the Food Truck down by the river at Hominy Creek last night. Kids and I tried the pulled pork, bbq tempeh, macaroni salad, baked beans, and Mac & Cheese. I got the chopped brisket with Mac and cheese and cabbage. All very good. Mac and cheese is more sweet than traditional. Husband got the pulled pork meatloaf and sweet potato casserole, all very good. Service was great. Young lady at check out was very sweet and helpful. Visited this wonderful BBQ restaurant on a Sunday drive home from Tn. Could not have chosen a better place! The owner and staff were as friendly as the south can be! The BBQ, pulled pork plate, was some of the best we've ever had! If you like some burnt ends, they have those and not a bite of fat, very lean and moist. The fried cabbage was delicious, but the macaroni and cheese pie was just like Grandma's, way back when, couldn't get any better. Several other great sides and 4 different slaws. My husband and I had the pleasure of running into this small BBQ joint while evacuating during hurricane Irma, and man was it good! My husband had the turkey which I had a taste of, it was super moist! I had their sausage which I loved, perhaps a little dry but I loved the flavor! The fam and I discovered this place when a friend was in town and looking for a place we had never been. He remembered that there was a pizza or burger place nearby, so when we went to check it out, we had no idea it had transformed into a new BBQ place. I was a little reluctant at first because BBQ isn't my fav. BUT, they blew me away. Since that first visit, i have been a handful of times, and it has become my preferred BBQ joint in the area. I've tried it all in a lot of places and we even had BBQ at my rehearsal dinner the day before my wife and I were married. The applesauce is amazing and unique. I went back again this week, and the food was great again. Pulled pork was flavorful, and fantastic and complex tomato-based and mustard-based sauces only added to the meal. Can I just say it sucks? We went a week or so after they first opened and the meats were over cooked and extremely dry along with the sides. So we thought we would give them some time to get on their feet and work out and let the new wear off since all the good things we had heard about the food truck. Well we went back last week and it was as bad as our first trip for BBQ. We informed our server about the issue and all we got was I'm sorry. Ate lunch there today for the first time, but definitely not our last. We usually go to Bonfire, but feel Doc's offers a better selection and customer service. The young lady handling the front of the house was extremely friendly, explaining the daily offerings including dietary restrictions. My husband had the pulled pork, beef and a few ribs. Though all was good, the ribs stood out with the best flavor and will be his go to place from now on. I got the bbq tempeh, which was extremely flavorful, not salty. Doc Brown is a genuine genius. He makes the greatest Texas style chili I've ever tasted and the smell of his ribs could make you float like a cartoon to his restaurant. Great little BBQ joint with some creative modern takes. I've had plenty of Brunswick stew before, but always with cubed beef. Theirs is pulled beef which was interesting, if not entirely persuasive. We tried all of their sides and the sweet potatoe souffle was exceptional, which made up for the commonplace nature of the Mac 'n' Cheese Pie and baked beans. Similarly, the bourbon applesauce is one of my new favorites while the collard greens--despite coming highly recommended from the cashier--were too vinegary for most of our party. Both the pulled beef and pork sandwiches were above par, if only ever so slightly. The availability of several styles of BBQ sauce was also encouraging. Overall, a great spot for both straight-forward and inventive BBQ. read more

My husband and I love BBQ. We are from the UP of Michigan and finding good BBQ is difficult there. So when we go on vacation, we look for BBQ places. This place is excellent. They have 3 different sauces, all home made. The pulled beef was the best I have ever tasted. Plus they had bourbon applesauce....perfect balance to the sauces. The service was fast and friendly. If you're looking for good ol' delicious barbecue and not the over priced, uncomfortable places that you often find in Asheville then it is worth the drive out here! It's a little quaint restaurant with a handful of tables and regulars (very nice people don't worry), and amazing staff. The cashier/host/waitress and even the cooks were the nicest service I'd had since moving to Asheville and it was breath of fresh air. She was so knowledgeable about the whole menu and knew exactly what to recommend. I ended up choosing the brisket sandwich and my dad got the pulled pork with slaw on it, we also got some ribs and sausage as well. As for sides I got collard greens and he got potato salad. Greens had the perfect amount of vinegar and the potato salad was good enough you wanted seconds. The ribs were great and it was nice to have the sauces on the table to choose from. Brisket was cooked amazingly and Doc himself happened to even come in with one he had just pulled out of his smoker and talked to all of us customers about his techniques and things, which is a pellet smoker but surprisingly the taste was still very good. Hands down would come here again. Happy to have found a good barbecue place that is friendly, classic, affordable and delicious. PS: I regret not trying the slaw flight but looked awesome! read more

So glad to find this place in Candler! The food was so good and we'll definitely be repeat customers. We got a bunch of food so we could all share. We had the pulled pork, the ribs, and the tempeh. All were delicious and incredibly flavorful. The sides we tried were the collards, fried cabbage, mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes, all were so so good! If you're going to be a BBQ restaurant you need to make sure you have your menu items available. While their sides are good been here three times to get brisket and they don't have it. If it was a special I could understand but it's a regular menu item. Extremely poor management when you don't have product and you still have 4 hours before closing. We will never try again done with this restaurant. read more
