I've been to the store no less than 5 times over the last two weeks and each time has left a sour taste in my mouth. Not sure if the "plant people" are employees, contractors, seasonal, nursery employees, or something else, but they routinely take the joy out of shopping. The mostly indoor permanent staff on the other hand are pretty good. But I can't look past the rudeness in the garden area!

I have recently stopped going to Lowe's in Havertown and solely go to DMI on haverford rd! They have anything I could possibly need for the projects around my house. Lumber, paint, hardware, screws and nails, tools, gardening supplies, rental equipment for those larger projects, you name it! They also do chair and table rentals if you are throwing a party and need some extras! It really does feel like a family when you walk in there. There are numerous employees walking around, constantly asking how they can assist and make your experience at DMI better than it already is. This place is for the serious shopper. You must make an appointment. No photography is allowed (I imagine they don't want window shoppers wasting their time taking pictures of amazing hardware and then trying to find it on Amazon or in a box store like Home Depot - spoiler alert...you won't so don't waste your time or there's). The selection was amazing. Modern to gothic. US to European. Door knobs to knockers and everything in-between. We had recently bought a new home designed to be Tudor but with Golden Girls taste everywhere. We wanted to beef up the historical look of the place and came here and found everything we needed. Second, you go over to the True Value in Manoa plaza. This gives you a step down in variety but a step up in expertise and small quantities. Third, you head here. You'll find lots of expertise. There is a very good chance someone can answer your questions in layman's terms. Also small quantities are easy here. It's just a matter of matching your need with the proper establishment. There is a place for all three.

This is to review Garden Shoppe's seasonal produce. (We have yet to experience the plant nursery…read moreitems.) We'd seen this place many times when stopping at Braxton's for pet food. Finally tried them for veggies the other day and we were really pleased. We normally get non-organic produce from Gentile's in Newtown Sq if/when it's decent quality (prices can't be beat, but quality is sometimes lacking), or we trek to Wolff's in Media for better quality (which you pay for there). What made the Garden Shoppe helpful to us is its convenience to the nearby Acme and Rite Aid we use, and the quality we got for the price. Quality can sometimes be on par with Wolff's, but with lower prices than Wolff's. They did not have the selection of the Wolff's or other larger produce stores, so expect what one might find at a roadside produce stand, not a full market. But for basics, they filled our need very well. One complaint was the corn. Places like Wolff's will normally let you husk it there, and if you get a half-brown dud, you don't end up paying for it. Wolff's has a lot of pride and does not want to sell you something like that. At the Garden Shoppe there is no means of husking, and we have ended up with 40% of our ears in really bad shape (half the kernels missing, worms, rot, etc.), so if they could set up a husking station it would be a great relief. For the other items, though, we're glad we finally tried them, and are sorry we didn't do it years sooner.
