Came across this place by accident while driving through Roscoe. What a great find! Excellent and helpful staff with all the answers. The bourbon is very good, and the gin is amazing. I have tried many different gins, but their "barrel rested" is out of this world good. If you are anywhere near Roscoe, this place is a must see. If you aren't near Roscoe, it's still worth the trip. Up from NYC for a few days in nearby Livingston Manor, and drove over to Roscoe for the afternoon. Prohibition Distillery is the best non-nature related attraction around. They offer free tastings and tours (you should still tip) to provide a better sense of their small batch vodka, gin and bourbon. Jim, who helped us with our tasting, and Kyle, our tour guide, were both knowledgeable, passionate and personable. Tours begin on the half hour and last about 20 minutes. Afterward, you can head back to the tasting room for any purchases (they also have hats, shirts and glasses in addition the the liquor), or over to the alley next door where they have a nice outdoor set-up to enjoy cocktails ($8 each). Bring a deck of cards and enjoy a Roscoe Mule or one of their other creations. read more

Small batch distillery making vodka, gin and bourbon. The tasting room is very cool and, if they added some bar stools, would be a cool place to host a small event. They are more than happy to give you a tour and a taste. I tried the vodka and bourbon. The vodka was very smooth and clean tasting. I didn't care for the bourbon, but I'm not an expert bourbon drinker. My husband felt the gin had a little too much alcohol burn for his taste and he is a gin drinker. We ended up buying a bottle of the vodka because it was good, and who doesn't want a bottle of booze on their shelf that's called "Bootleggers" by a distillery called "Prohibition Distillery". read more

Pretty much the best vodka and gin I've had in awhile. I had a tasting of vodka, gin and bourbon at a food & wine show. Straight vodka chilled - almost no taste. I was amazed. I'm not a fan of gin but it also had a very mild taste. Not a huge fan of bourbon so I can't compare it. I can't seem to find any place that sells this brand in my area though :( It would definitely be my go-to vodka - even above Ketel one. Plus I love that it is from NY! If you find it in a store....buy some. I've had people suggest other small batch vodkas to me but I'm always disappointed. They don't compare to bootlegger! read more

This place is the bomb. You have to try the cocktail bar. I had the cocktail in which the mixologist infused it with honey. Listening to the live music and sitting on the three person swing was a trip Been coming to the Catskills since the60s and this place is a find. The only problem is they close at 8pm. A lovely weekend in Roscoe was made even better by a visit to Prohibition Distillery. My boyfriend and I were just about to grab lunch nearby when we saw the sign saying "tasting room open". Obviously, this was too good to pass up, so we headed over. Immediately upon walking in, we were greeted and invited to join the tasting that had just started. The whole tasting experience was great. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the drinks. After the tasting, we toured the facility. We ended up buying a bottle each of the vodka, gin, and bourbon. We were admiring the cute bar area outside and ended up staying for another hour or so, drinking some tasty cocktails and chatting with other visitors on the porch swing. What a GREAT find. A small distillery making really Amazing booze. The owner is knowledgable and gave us a really interesting tour of the facility. Learned a lot about their process and got to taste their line of goods. The Vodka is SUPER smoothe which set us up for amazing Gin and easy drinking whiskey. I am NOT a gin girl, but I could do this Gin. To top it all off, he let us taste their favorite Bloody mary mix which they sell. This was the best mix I have ever tasted-- Lots of layers of flavors, not just heat/pepper -- it built with every sip. Excellent. There seems to be a booming microbrewery and microdistillery movement in the Catskills. Prohibition Distillery represents some of the best. The distillery started out producing gin only. High quality, very aromatic, and easy to mix. More recently they started distilling vodka and whiskey. The vodka is very nice; I found the whiskey, however, to be quite harsh. The distillery has an on-site tasting room, where knowledge staff (owners?) gladly explain anything to you. They also have for sale a number of items, notable among them a Bloody Mary mix, which perfectly complements their vodka. If you are visiting the area, or are up for a pit stop on your way to Binghamton or the Finger Lakes, leave Route 17 at Exit 94 and visit Prohibition Distillery. read more

This place is a must see for anyone going through Roscoe NY. The distillery is housed in the old fire dept building. I did the tour and tasting. The tour was given by Brian who is one of the founders of the Prohibition Distillery. The tour was very informative and the tasting afterwards was great. If you stop by on the weekend, definitely hit up the alley bar next to the distillery. They have various drinks made from the vodka, gin, and bourbon that they produce. read more

This place is awesome! Just to look at it from the outside, it is buttoned down! Inside is just the same, everything is just so, but yet the staff are totally laid back and friendly. They make Vodka, gin and whisky. We had our dog with us, and were told, bring her in as long as she's friendly, and you're willing to clean up if she makes a mess...can't be fairer than that. If you're traveling along the southern tier, take five minutes to stop and take a look. read more

We stopped here on a whim- and I have to tell you, it did not disappoint. We went there on one of the coldest days we've had in 2017 so their outside pavilion is closed. Apparently in the summer you can have drinks outside and there's live music. (I will for sure be back to experience that.) the owner gave us a tour and he was very informative. We paid $10.00 per person and got a free shot glass. You can pop in any time and do a tasting, donations are welcomed and they go to veterans! You can't beat that. You pay for drinks and you help someone at the same time. The vodka is the best I have ever tasted in my life. It goes down like water. I have never had gin in my life and we carilla purchased a bottle of gin! It was so delicious. The ambiance is very welcoming - the people very friendly. I will be back in the summer for sure. We decided to check out this distillery on our way home from our little weekend getaway. Weren't sure what to expect since we had lackluster results at Catskills Distillery the day prior. Our experience at Prohibition couldn't have been better! We got a really interesting tour explaining the processes for all of the spirits, even got to smell samples in between the processes. We had a tasting of all the spirits, with explanations of what makes them unique and things to watch for. The spirits themselves were of excellent quality, very pure, clean vodka, a citrusy gin, and warm, spice/nutty bourbon. We ended up buying a bottle, though I wish we'd bought more. They referred us to a close-by brewery "Roscoe Beer Company" and we swung by afterward, another wonderful experience. read more

Their bourbon is better then their flagship vodka which is over refined and tastes watery. There are however much better bourbons for the price .I've stopped recommending it to friends. The Catskill Brewery is a much better destination. They are much better at finding a balance between being a tourist attraction and part of the community. read more

We've passed​ this place several times over the years and never had a desire to actually stop. However, for some unknown reason, my wife and I decided to take a look. I'm not a spirits guy, more onto beer or wine but my wife likes traditional alcohol stuff. I remember the place from when it was an actual firehouse and I must say that the repurposing of the structure was done masterfully. They kept so much of the original wood craftsmanship and feel of the old place. The staff is VERY, VERY warm and friendly. It took my wife seconds to feel as if we had known these people for years. The product that is being made there is OUTSTANDING!. Like I stated before, I'm not into distilled spirits, but I loved the Vodka, Gin, ​and Bourbon. It wasn't harsh nor possessing the usual burning that has kept me away from this stuff. The flavors were inviting and warming to the gullet. They are having a big bash on Memorial day with food and live music...gotta go!...anyway, stop by the Prohibition Distillery in Rosco NY, it would be well worth the trip for downstaters. read more

Walked in to try out the samples, walked out with a bottle of gin and vodka. The vodka was really smooth and went down way to easy. The gin had a great citrus note and was not to dry. The burboun was good but I am more of a scotch and gin person so I may not be the best judge on them. My only concern is that when I run out I won't be able to easily get more being from out of town. The gentleman that served us was very friendly and knowledge about their products. I would recommend trying this place out. read more
