Our stay at DO Plaça Reial was bittersweet. After traveling more since our last visit seven years ago, we've realized five-star ratings vary widely.
Positives:
* Service & Cleanliness: Excellent, no complaints.
* Location: Steps from La Rambla, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shops. Walkable to major tourist spots.
* Amenities: Small spa, rooftop bar, and pool.
* Breakfast: Fresh and varied, served 7:30-11 AM in a dimly lit lower-level room.
Negatives:
* Room 21: Unchanged in seven years--same dated furniture and a mattress with deep indentations. We took turns sleeping on the couch.
* Noise: Poor insulation; nightlife noise lasts until 6 AM. Light sleepers need earplugs and a white noise machine. Subway rumbling is also noticeable.
* Bathroom Storage: Plenty of toiletries but minimal space for personal items.
Other Notes:
The room includes a Roku TV that logs you out at checkout.
Final Thoughts:
While the location and charm are great, the outdated room and noise issues mean we wouldn't stay again. Sleep is too valuable. We'd only recommend it if you prioritize location over comfort--otherwise, Barcelona has better five-star options. read more
