Not friendly - horrible selection of Pokemon and when I found a cheap Card for my son he promised they use TCG Player to price the card - well not true as the card he priced at $3 was only $0.97 on player. Been coming here since I was in highschool. I remember when they used to have the Batmobile outside one a month and a huge selection of cards. Now they have 3-4 binders of yugioh cards and maybe 2-3 SINGLE magic cards in hand. Place used to be goated for buying single bulk cards but hasn't been the same for YEARS now. Pretty typical comic book store. Kinda tough to get to with how the streets intersect around the area. Nothing that is going to blow you away but they have a lot of merch to keep you shopping for awhile. I specifically collect X-Men funko pop figures and I found one I had been searching for. This is my first review ever. I'm doing this because this place was absolute garbage. The selection is mid at best. Maybe if you just like DC comics then you'd probably like it. But Everything is overpriced and the would be best to buy secondhand or literally anywhere else. And the SERVICE was absolutely HORRIBLE. There was only one guy there. He was an older man at the counter and he did not seem like he even wanted me or my friends in the shop. He made the WHOLE experience uncomfortable and TENSE. He did not say a single word that wasn't under his breath. His tone was as if he felt like he was above everyone else and shouldn't even have to speak to a customer, even if it's a simple yes or no question. Lol, idk why so many people think store employees are supposed to be "all into you" from the moment you walk in. I prefer a little breathing room at first and then approach the guys/gals if i have a question or need help. The store offers a pretty in-depth variety of comics and really caters to the eclectic, avant-garde, independent press, small press, and atypical series collectors while still offering a plethora of mainstream Marvel and DC fare. If the store has a weakness, I'd say it's in the back-issue area. DNA doesn't have the depth of stock of say, Bedrock and Nan's, but sometimes you can find a rare gem if you're willing to hunt a little (which is half the fun). They also have a wide variety of action figures to suit all tastes, ages, and "kids" great and small. I've had "nerdy" chats with DNA staff, and I've had more intellectual chats with DNA staff. If you're seeking emotional gratification ... go home and hug your dog. If you recognize that all comics/collectibles collectors aren't going to be just like you, then it's a perfectly cool little store. In closing, DNA is what you make it! read more

Bad business. They post sale signs up but charge you cover price. I came in for free comic book day then went to the counter to buy one comic I picked up from the dollar bins. They charged me cover price for it. This is the second year they have done this. It's a bad business and they take advantage over you. Do not buy anything from them until they have some integrity to stop preying on their customers. I gave them another chance after last year they charged me full prices when they say they have them on sale. You might as well ignore the sale signs and be prepared to pay full price and over pay. I'm hoping I never have to go here again. If 0 stars were an option, they would get zero. I have never been so appalled by lack of respect for the product in which a store is selling. Their entire selection of new comic books were bent right down the middle. Not sure if this is due to humidity or a general lack of quality control, but I would NEVER purchase a comic book in the condition that these were in. I buy my comics for collecting, not for reading. I would never keep comics in my collection that were purchased from this store. It almost seems insulting to the writers and artists of these books. Aside from the poor quality of the comics, the staff didn't seem to have any idea what I was talking about when asking about specific books. I had a question about Superior Spider-Man, which is Marvel's best-selling title at the moment. The kid I talked to couldn't pick SS-M out of a small row of comic books when I asked to see one of them. I had to actually point to it and say "THAT ONE" before he understood what comic I was wanting to see. How can run a legitimate comic store when you have staff that aren't even familiar with current books? I also asked the kid his opinion on AvX (Avengers vs X-Men). His response was "The ending sucked. Don't read it." I could immediately tell by his dismissive response the he hadn't actually read any of it. Bendis' story arc in AvX is actually one of the best - written titles I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and to immediately discredit the work as "it sucked" is a slap in the face to the immense amount of effort that went into this series. Perhaps that isn't a direct reflection on the store itself, but to hire employees at a comic store who know nothing about comics is a poor reflection on the capabilities of the person in charge of hiring as to their ability to judge employee worthiness. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only employee I had to deal with while at the store. I asked another employee if I could check out a replica Thor hammer that was for sale, and he didn't even know the store had one for sale. I asked him what the hammer was made out of, and his answer was "I've only been here a week." He made no attempt to find an answer to my question since he clearly didn't know himself. I would be embarrassed as a store owner to have people working for me who represented my company as poorly as these 2 individuals. In summary, if you're looking for bent comic books and staff who don't read comics, this is definitely the place for you. If you use your comics as beer coasters, they've got a huge collection of partially ruined comics already. Hope this review will save someone else the gas and wasted time. read more

Have been coming to this comicbook store with my wife for several years now. Originally this was a very good comicbook store, however over the last 2-3 years it has really gone downhill. The windows have been black tinted heavily with "Comics" written on one side and "Games" written on the other. It just seems like a very uninviting place and if it wasn't for the fact that comics was in the store name I'd assume it's some sort of adult sex shop. Normally I'm okay with not being bothered while I shop, although I can attest to never having been greeted by an employee when coming in or leaving. The few employees that held very small conversation at checkout are long gone, and now it's just a very uncharismatic gentleman at checkout who avoids eye contact and makes it seem like his job is a chore and inconvenience to you. The comic selection is varied if you like Marvel and DC, but 3rd publisher's are not as widely available. Toys and collectable action figures are routine to any comic shop providing a lot of Marvel selects, a moderate amount of statues, and cinema action figures. Card selection is available to most of the card games, but obviously biased toward YuGiOh. It has a wide variety of MTG as well, and pokemon gets a very small selection normally not displayed up front anymore. Funko selection is a let down since it appears to be about the same 10-15 figures you will routinely see anytime you visit. A large space in the middle of the store is mostly occupied by tables which are empty most of the time I'm in there aside from the usuals I've seen hanging around. We use to frequent this store on an almost weekly basis, but have limited ourselves to about 1 or two visits yearly now because of the decrease in experience quality. If you're unsure you should stop by and make your own judgement, but I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

The place wreaked of cigarette smoke. I went in and spent probably close to 10 minutes looking in various boxes before anyone even said anything to me. No staff member offered to help me or asked me what I might be looking for. Their staff was, however, talking to a bunch of people that I assume are probably regulars and friends of theirs. Now when I did go and ask for help the clerk at the register was able to assist me because the items I was looking for were not in their store. He suggested I go to Bedrock City which I did and have not gone back to DNA since. It was worth the drive to go to the other store than to visit DNA again. read more

Possibly the worst comic/game store in the Houston area. I've come here multiple times and every time I've been treated disrespectfully. On many occasions I've stood at the front counter, the register none the less, and not had an employee acknowledge me for over 10 minutes. A few times an employee would look up from his phone, make eye contact, and then go back to the phone. Me and a friend recently came to sell some yugioh cards, and the employee grabbed the box out of his hand and said simply "I'll look at them, but I'm not going to buy anything." in the most apathetic tone I've heard. He ended up buying $35 worth of cards, and handed the rest back with a "these are worthless." On a separate occasion, I was looking through some magic cards, and then walked outside to accept a call. After a minute, the employee ran outside and grabbed me, yelling "where are those cards?" I had to jerk my hand loose and explain that they were in plain view on the counter. There's absolutely no reason to go to this store, ever. Especially with a great store (ettin games) directly behind it. read more

If I could vote lower than 1 star I would. The comics are bent, the 1 dollar bin is full of ripped up comics not even in sleeves, some so damaged i wouldn't use them for an art project. The staff is uneducated in almost every aspect of working with the public. They have little to NO knowledge about the things they sell in a comic store. It's a cliquey environment that stinks of grown men who haven't bathed in a while and cheese and that is not the worst of it. Not long ago I was on a trip to DNA to pick up some cheap comics to read while I was sick in bed. I was going through looking when a young man came up to me and started a conversation. Fine that's cool and all, but it was very obvious that I wasn't looking to talk or make a friend. He asked me several times for my phone number, I finally had to firmly say NO, I HAVE A BOYFRIEND. I was cornered, no one came to help me, no staff members to be found. Young man walks away and I go back to my hunt, a few minutes later the same guy walks up behind me wrapping his arms around me and grabs my breasts. I was mortified I left. I then called the store over TEN TIMES looking to speak to the owner. I finally get a hold of him to let him know what's happened, giving a description of the kid...His response was that I should have called the police. No apology, no concern nothing.... This is a place where people bring their children, you know who else likes comics? people with disabilities. what if this was to happen to someone who couldn't say something? who couldn't stand up and say "Hey STOP" It pisses me off. I'll be honest, I order most of my comics online, but when I miss an issue or need a back issue I come here. Mainly because it's the nearest place. They do have a large selection of back issues, graphic novels, toys, cards and t-shirts. They also have large tables set up for role playing and card games if you're in to that. read more

Have been going to DNA for some time now and I have to say that the Owner Steve is a real great guy who works hard at what he does and has the best damn comic book shop around. With that said though, some of the people he has hired in the past were very incompetent and frankly rude whom I really wonder just how they got hired. I do not blame Steve for this as a lot of the workers he has are just kids with little credentials but man o man some of the people who worked there are some of the most rude and ignorant people I've met in my life. I honestly blame Kingwood for this as I know a lot of the rich kids think its cool and trendy to work at places like that but let it just be known that there are other workers here who do a great job its just I've been going for so long now where I have seen many different people come and go. my advice to a lot of people is always look for the oldest person for help lol. usually they are more willing to help and more knowledgable. Aside from all this though I cant say enough good things about this store.. great selection of everything geek wise. read more
