This has long been my favorite comic shop in Houston. This is a proper old school comic shop with knowledgeable staff and a great selection. Thumbs up for the oddities like the 8x10 70s and 80s celebrity head shots for sale. I took my nephew here and he lost his mind! He lives in a small town, so this was probably the largest selection of comics and collectibles he has seen. Great selection and the employees were so helpful. They really went out of their way to help me find the comics I was looking for.

A few weekends back I went to several gaming and comic book stores in the area. Nothing really negative against the other stores but Third Planet was a step above anything else. Most friendly customer service, really cool selection. I was there with my son looking for one of the new Pokémon card releases. They had them, cheaper than any other store in the area and let him select his own packs from the box. There's a reason why this place has been around since 1975. read more

Wow! Very clean and organized. Very friendly staff. Large amount of comics and classic toys, esp vintage power rangers. Parking lot was a little tricky at first but once you find it you'll get it. Third Planet was located a quick walk from my hotel while in Houston and being somewhat a comicbook nerd, I definitely needed to check this place out and see if I needed to bring anything back with me to Florida. In some ways this place is overwheliming in the fact that its huge and there are things everywhere for you to look at. I'm one hundred percent sure that there are things there I missed purely because there is so much that your eyes can't focus on it all. They had pogs, xmen action figures, comics, mugs, t shirts- I mean, I could ramble on forever... They've got a huge selection of comics and toys. If you're looking for anything specific in either, I'm sure they've got it there. While I was there I was offered assistance multiple times by different people so they are on it when it comes to customer service which is great. So many cool vintage toys to choose from. This place is perfect for anyone who likes ANYTHING comic book related. I'm optimistic that you'd find something here and the prices are reasonable which makes it even better! read more

Third Planet seems to have a huge selection of just about everything comic book related. From books, comic books, action figures, sculptures, new and vintage. It's a big store and it's full of stuff. Today was my third trip here. Customer service has been pretty hit or miss. First time, no one spoke a single word to me the entire time I was in the store. Second time, both employees couldn't have been nicer. Third time, of the five employees I saw, one asked how I was doing and if he could help me find anything. The selection here is nice, but my god... They act like they're the only store that has the items. Many items are overpriced and the more obscure items way overpriced. In the age of e-commerce, they should really consider their pricing. I had inquired about a particular model kit which was readily available on eBay. I'll say it was a more vintage kit, but they had it listed almost 200 percent of the ebay cost. I had asked them if they would reconsider it's value based on the market value. The associate looked at me dumbfounded and said, 'no, these items are hard to get.'. Sure, if you lived in a town with no internet these things are hard to get... Anyways... This place is a hidden gem, I felt like I was stepping into a time machine. The smell of hundreds of books permeated the air (very comforting). Their comic and manga selection is expansive. I think I spent a good hour just browsing for my next obsession. The staff was super friendly and super helpful when it came to questions. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in town. Only downside is the parking situation is a bit confusing, I called the store and they gave me good directions from there. Maybe a sign indicating the parking entrance would be good. read more

So my son is a huge collector and when we head into Houston for a day-trip which is what it becomes since we live a bazillion miles away we try and make a stop here to browse. Excellent comic book shop. I stopped in a I was in "collector mode" and found several comics to add to my collection. I met the owner (he's been there 45 years or so) and we talked collecting. The shop is well organized and I was told that there may be issues and items that are in storage, not displayed. As a silver age collector, this intrigued me and I'll definitely be back. If you are a comic book fan this is a great place. They have a HUGE selection or can order you most anything. I have actually had them locate back issues I missed before. Or they will pre-order for you so you don't miss an issue. And if you have the time to filter through the many bins of old comics, you could find something you need for your collection too! If you are a collector of Star Wars action figures they also have a terrific selection of those. Funk Pop fan? Ok, they have a lot of those. Sign up for their newsletter because they have comic book writers and artists in at times. I pop in every couple months just to see what they might have that's new. I buy rarely because I am a Star Trek collector and their selection is limited. But it still is a great place to wander through if you are a super hero or fantasy fan. I'm writing this review as a comic book collector. This place was hard to find the entrance for I had to loop around the highway twice. A sign on the building saying "Enter Here" is needed. The store is very musty. There are a lot of comics, but not many keys. The keys they do have are at peak eBay prices. The don't have a big key wall, it's just a small rack behind a counter also at high eBay prices. No deals to be found here. I can dig in stores for hours, but I was out of this place in 30 minutes. I only found one comic. This place a has a huge selection of toys, but I'm not a toy guy. read more

I have been a huge fan of this place since I first went here just a couple weeks before my 11th birthday many years ago at the start of the 2000s. They have walls and shelves full of awesome 90s action figures and containers full of awesome 90s comics. I have always been a fan of Spiderman, X-Men, Gargoyles and Spawn for 90s cartoon shows and merchandise. The service has always been great, very friendly and very accommodating on all my visits here from the owner and other staff workers under him. They also have stuff you wouldn't even find in other places that are from the 80s n 90s. Even the loose figures pretty much look brand new. I personally have every single figure I ever bought in my life as far back as four years old before knowing about this establishment in multiple containers in my closet with all their accessories n weapons in excellent condition. Avalanche, Grizzly, Tusk, Mr Sinister, Carnage, Stealth Venom, Medieval Spawn II and Redeemer are some of many awesome, artistic 90s figures I have bought from here. I am a big fan of Bedrock City and Third Planet for comic stuff, but this place though pricier has many more to pick from. I also really like that old school comic store feel you get soon as you walk up to the door. read more

I'll be straight up honest with you about this one. 3rd Planet doesn't look like much from the outside. If you are looking for a leather-clad seating filled reading area and the soft neon glow of glass-topped decorative accent tables, you probably want to go to a comic book store in San Francisco. If, on the other hand, you are looking for the largest selection of out-of-print comics in the greater Houston area, you'll want to turn off the Southwest Freeway frontage road and into the little pothole-studded parking lot after the Holiday Inn. In addition to comics (both current and staggeringly old) they have one of the greatest selections of in-stock geek paraphernalia I've ever been dragged somewhere to stare at. They have those collectible statues and action figures and lunch boxes and t-shirts and books and posters and everything else you could need to express your geeky preferences. Also, role-playing game stuff. A lot of it. Warning: Guys, this is not a place to go on a first date (unless your date is into that stuff, in which case I'd still avoid it anyway because eventually you'd want to leave and she may not). read more

I stop by here sometimes to get a new issue of The Walking Dead. It's my 2nd favorite show on television and I hate waiting until "next season" to see what happens. A couple months ago, an employee here explained to me for 15 minutes all the differences between the the comic book and the television show. They don't follow each other 100% of the time but it's close enough. Hint: the comic is way more graphic. Anyway, I really like the staff here. They all seem to love their job and know pretty much everything you'd have any questions about. As a whole, the whole comic book industry is a shadow of what it once was. Most shops like this has closed down so I'm glad they're still able to stay in business. Their prime location in the middle of the Greenway Plaza probably helps. I'm sure the owner has gotten tons of offers to sell this place because the land alone is worth millions. You know he loves this place because he hasn't sold out. read more

If your like me and watch Toy Hunters, collect vintage toys, love 1980s Transformers, Starwars toys, this is your spot. Not a HUGE collection of vintage stuff, mostly 1990 and up, but the old stuff they do have is really cool. Bought several items, prices are not bad... there is however dust on everything! a good dusting could go a long way in this place, parking confusing if you miss the entrance! Overall, this is probably Houston's best comic book/toy shop/vintage toys spot to go, if your looking to blow a few hundred bucks and a couple hours, come here, you won't be disappointed, it satisfys an itch! Over 8000 square feet of toys! Lots of Star Wars 1990+ Lots of Comic Book Action Figures MMORPG Action Figures Baseball Action Figures Barbies Disney Dolls, Wooden Sculptures GiJOES Shogun Transformers, ETC Only con, the AC could be turned on a little longer at times, I found myself sweating, not sure of excitement or just the fact the AC in the place was not sufficient in cooling the building down. Third Planet has a massive selection of.. well, just about everything you can think of. Third Planet is up-to-date on all the newest releases, including some indie and local comics. They have a very large selection of back issues, both classic and modern. They also stock many graphic novels, including manga. In addition, they stock lots of science fiction and fantasy novels. This is also one of the largest toy stores in Houston, except most of their toys are collectibles. No matter where you are in the store, there are plenty of toys within arms' reach. Even if you aren't a collector, you'll probably recognize some their toys from your childhood or teen years. That aside, you will also find VHS tapes, posters, props, and tons of memorabilia. They really seem to carry just about anything you could be interested in. Third Planet isn't without it's negatives. Despite it's size, the store is pretty cramped and disorganized. It takes a lot of time to get through this place, even if you know what you are looking for. Their prices are also hit-and-miss. Some things are priced higher than what they're worth or what other stores are charging. Among Houston comic shops, their parking lot is easily the worst in town! Negatives aside, Third Planet is still the largest in town and the workers are pretty nice. It isn't my favorite store in Houston, but it's still fun to come here sometimes. read more

This is a great little comic book store right off southwest freeway. The blue building stands out when you're driving by, but it does look like a bit of a dump from the outside, and they do have a pot-hole filled parking lot that only reinforces that opinion. The inside, however, is a different matter. The store is expansive and has a really nice selection of just about everything. The trade paperback locations are a bit un-coordinated and winding, making it difficult to find what you need, and their prices are a bit high, but it's still worth coming by. If you have any trouble finding anything, they probably have the nicest and most accommodating staff of any comic book store in town. read more

I shop and visit various comic book stores, and to be honest, Third Planet is one of my least favorites. Even the location is a bit awkward and sketchy. Off of the feeter on 59, the entrance comes up fast and is easy to miss, before you realize you might end up turning at the sex shop right next to this place (comic shops next to sex shops, talk about irony and innapropriate). Be warned, the parking lot is not all that spacious and there are signs everywhere that warn you to lock your door and hide your things. Geeze, am I buying Spiderman comics or getting drugs.. Once inside, the shop is pretty crammed. So be ready to be shoulder to shoulder with everything. I'll admit that there is a wide array of neat things here, such as classic memorablia, comics and toys. However the place just feels icky inside, and not to mention dusty! Staff doesn't look like the friendliest bunch either. Your best bet is just to come to this place once to look around, but I would certainly not make this my regular shop. Nuff said. read more

3rd planet? is it because we are the 3rd planet from the sun? but this place is out of this world, maybe 4th or 2nd planet but definitely nothing of this world. I called and was inquiring about some games to purchase and I was having the time of my life with their automated recordings. At work we no longer have internet so I find the simplest things to entertain myself and sure enough third planet's phone answering system is worth 5 minutes out of your day. When I finally got past the maze of hilarious menus I got a live person and found out their magic boxes are about 116 a box which is significantly cheaper than the other retailers around which are about 140 each. The only problem is this place closes at 7 pm which is too early for me. read more
