I love that this store has more than comics! I am new to Houston and I was looking for a good nerdy store to fill all my needs. They had comics and action figures and merchandise like a Star Wars Clock. They even have anime! They have everything that I love! I decided to stop in there because I was early on my way to work. I did miss their parking lot though. They only have one entry/outlet to the parking lot and it is on a one way street so you can't make a U-turn. The next parking lot will also tow your vehicle if you are not shopping at the store it is connected to. Then the parking lot behind that one was sketchy but my only option at that point. Nothing bad happened so it turned out to be ok. I just wish there was a sign that pointed out the little alley-way so I would have known that was their parking lot. Anyway I walked in and was greeted immediately. They asked if I needed any help finding anything. I had just seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movie last week and I have become a little obsessed with Rocket Racoon. I had read that he had his own comic so I asked if they carried it. They did! I got the two that have been published and I also got a bobble head. I really wanted to look at the Star Wars stuff and the Gundam models but I know that I would end up spending a lot more money than I really wanted to so I decided to take what I originally came in for. I will definitely be coming back and I can't wait for my next paycheck! read more

There are many comic book stores scattered throughout Houston. Stores that come to mind include Nan's Games & Comics, Midnight Comics, Bedrock City Comics, and Third Planet. Each Houston-based store has its fair share of positives and negatives. For one, even though Nan's Games & Comics has the biggest selection of board games, it has the highest prices. And although Midnight Comics opens until midnight six days a week, it has the weakest selection of items. And even though Bedrock City Comics doesn't have that large of a selection, it is the cleanest and most organized. However, unlike some of the worse shops (Nan's and Midnight), Bedrock City Comics' positives outweigh its negatives. For one, the store has the largest selection of collectibles and memorabilia out of any Houston-based comic book shop. The store sells the largest variety of merchandise out of any comic book shop in Houston (nothing even remotely compares to their Star Wars collection). However, the store does not come without its negatives. For one, the store looks very rundown from the outside (not to mention the inside!). Additionally, the store is very unorganized and cluttered. In other words, everything is everywhere. There is no sense of organization apparent in the shop. However, the fact that the store is so large makes up for this. So in conclusion, if you are looking for something in particular, Third Planet is your best bet due to its large selection! read more

Third Planet is a weird place, like...okay it has this weeks comics and nice back issues, but that should hardly be an indicator of a good comic shop. That's like deeming a restaurant good, because they have food for you to put in your mouth. They do have better back issues then any other shop in town, so that's nice. The store is sort of cluttered with garbage no one would ever want. Okay, G.I. Joe and Transformers are cool, but is anybody really ever going to come in and say "OH, DO YOU GUYS HAVE A 12-INCH BISHOP ACTION FIGURE FROM 1994? OH YOU DO?, THANK GOD. Hmm, better take 1992 Florida Marlins pennant too, while I'm at it.". No, no one will ever do that ever. Third Planet also smells faintly of urine. read more

This place was okay, I was expecting it to be similar to a shop we went to in Austin but nope. A lot of the stuff is in boxes and in plastic and if you "drop it, you buy it" as the sign says. It would be better if they had like the "best sellers" displayed outside on shelves or something promoting what's the most popular outside of the boxes in each section instead of having to dig for it. They do have a shelf at the end that display the employees suggestions, which is pretty cool (I think that would be better if they put that where the actual comics are in the front though). There are also some toys there that aren't too pricy and was glad to see some spawn and alien toys as well. They have some t-shirts (marvel mostly) and a small manga collection. read more

Not being a comic book aficionado, I am relegated to the family member hanging out while others drool over the content of this store. As such,I can say they need a few comfy(or otherwise) chairs in this place. My family could spend alot more time and money in this place if I were happily seated somewhere. Parking is an issue here, but I'm sure that is not a surprise to the owners. So once again, a chair or two might help the place out immensely. read more

From the outside it might not look like much but this was a hidden gem!!! There was a very large amount of back issues which I loved and a lot of rare books, even though they were a tad too high priced. The staff will not let you hold any books in the case but would still show you any book you would like. The staff was very helpful. Even checked on me after a few minutes. The Third Planet really is a great spot for comics and role-playing games. It has all of the throw-back collectibles and the way the store is run, it feels like a step back in time to the way game stores used to be. I've heard good and not-so-good things about Third Planet, but my trips to this place have always ended happily. They have excellent selections, good organization, and the staff is reasonably helpful and friendly. You can regularly count on them to have an item or issue one of the other comic shops in town don't have, and that generally makes the occasional high price worth it. Went in for Free Comic Book Day and I was impressed with their immersion of the culture. They had artists and writers there selling their work and the atmosphere really felt good. Parking is a little tough since they only have one small lot but there are other lots available. Some of the items were a little pricey, but this probably where I will call my comic book home while in Houston. read more

Like alot of stores of its ilk, Third Planet seems like it used to be a lot more exciting back when times were a little bit better (i.e. people bought more things)... heck, as it is alot of the stuff that makes this store stand out are remnants from that era, but I digress. The store has a lot of things that other stores simply can't offer in the ways of out of print materials, and everything is really well laid out, making shopping here an exciting experience. The staff is fairly non intrusive which is either good or bad depending on what you want when you go to a store like this. It's hard to get to, and the parking sucks, but in a lot of ways this is the best game in town (aside from bedrock) and not to be missed by collectors and comic fans. read more

I always make sure to visit this shop whenever I'm in Houston. Usually I browse the huge selection of back issues and action figures on my own, but the staff is always friendly. On my most recent visit I had a lot of questions. Kyle and Stephanie were more than willing to help and talk all things comics and pop culture. This just cemented my love for this shop and I will always be sure to come back each and every time I am in Houston. I even had to call back to purchase something and have it shipped home. Stephanie was again very helpful and polite. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

They had a pretty good selection. I took my son after we saw his oncologist in Houston. I took him there to reward him. BUT Sketchy neighborhood. No parking and a real sleazy place next door. But went inside anyway. I've never been treated so horrible by a staff member. I went to touch a comic book and she stormed over to me and Said "don't bend the comics it breaks the spine " and she was rude and short and slamming things around. I was barely even touching the damn book. I ended up buying 60 bucks worth of comics. Only because my son had been looking for some they had. But that woman is effing rude and my son heard it too. She was zero help and so we left quickly. Not worth the trip especially when spending money there being treated so poorly. I was pissed. Avoid at all cost. Go to bedrock. While driving on 59 you might notice a baby blue building from the road. To most people this would just be a random building, but to others it is much more. This is Third Planet Comics. As soon as you walk into the building you automatically know that you are in comic book heaven. The smell of the books hits your nose and from that moment you are hooked. I remember the first time that my mom brought me to the store when I was a kid, I was in love. The walls are lined with action figures, and I could not believe that this many toys would be in one place. The store is almost like a where's waldo page because everywhere you look you find something that you didn't know was there the last time you looked. The store has everything, comics, pop funko's, action figures, manga, board games, trading cards. If you are into any of those things, then this is the store for you. The staff is always extremely friendly and willing to help or answer questions. The store owner TJ is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the products he sells. The store is great about ordering enough books to supply their customer needs on a week-to-week basis; and always has a good number of variants. The "grails" that most places are charging 15-20% over market value can be found here for a reasonable price. The store has a solid number of graded comics and non-graded comics to satisfy all your needs. One thing that has separated the store from others is the ability to get comics that people want. It always seems like TJ either has, or can get, almost any comic that you want. Another aspect of the store that I love is that you can see older comics and toys and newer comics and toys. While this seems simple, it is not always that easy and it is nice to have the classic nostalgia with the new stuff. Not only is this store a great place to get your comic needs, but it is also a staple of the Houston community. For a small business to have lasted through 46 years and several natural disasters is very impressive. To do it and still be the best shop in Houston says a lot about the store and the quality products that it offers. I could not say enough about this store. Quality products, good prices, great staff! I would recommend anyone that hasn't been to this store to drop in and pay them a visit, but warning, it's hard to leave without something! read more

Comics and action figures aren't for your "40 yr old virgin" anymore! The help and customer service was great but my main complaints would be the narrow parking and prices. It's a tad steeper here than your bedrock city and probably equivalent to nan's. I would say the selection of collectibles here was expansive though. read more

I went to this independent shop to purchase an item I had called about just that morning, and was told the price was $82, but much to my dismay, when I arrived, the owner had marked it up to $600. He told me it had increased in value over nite and to get it I would have to pay the new price. He was very rude and said it was about the money, NOT customer service! Hmmmm... I am not new to this collecting craze, I owned a retail shop in the 80&90's when Beanie Babies were nuts, but I always sold at fair retail! It's just really sad when an owner puts money before customer service!!! He also accused me of being a dealer???, when he doesn't even know me. They are very eager to discuss their favorite comics and direct you towards your genre of choice. They are not pretentious or suffer from the "cooler-than-thou" syndrome. I would definitely consider this place a dive because its appearance and location... that being said; it is one of the better shops in Texas. The employee told that this shop is the 2nd oldest comic shop in the country. I found killer silver age books here and a large selection of variant and rare comics. It has average new stuff and a very large assortment of vintage toys. Supplies were of average assortment too. If you are in the market for very old comics for cheap... this is the best in town... if not the state. I can only list a few other stores that can beat this one in and out of state to find old rare comics. read more

I brought in some books to possibly sell and the offer I got was very low I understand you gotta make a profit but offering 100 bucks for 25 books when one book can easily bring 100 is almost an insult. This place is hard to get to and has a tiny parking lot, but is filled with treasure inside. A must see at least once, but I don't get the impression the stock changes much. read more

I stopped in here to kill some time after a training for work in the area. It is sooo much more than comics. I spent a long time just walking around getting a good dose of nostalgia. There are old school transformer toys, VHS tapes, vintage posters and things I remember seeing as a kid. I had friends that were into graphic novels in the past but the only one I had read was v for vendetta because I loved the movie so much. I asked the woman working there if there were any that she recommended and she showed me a couple that sounded really interesting and entertaining. You could tell that she was knowledgeable and invested in what she does there. I hadn't planned on buying anything but ended up buying a dr. Seuss water bottle and a couple packs of gum with sarcastic sayings on the box. So there is no lack of comics and expertise but there's a lot of other fun stuff too. I'll probably stop in again in a couple weeks when I have training down there again and maybe pick up a graphic novel. read more

out of all the comic places I've been to. this one makes you feel like family. i had all the dumbest questions and asked a lot of them and where still glad to answer all of them with a smile and then some. every employee probably have degrees in comics because they are so incredibly knowledgeable. When I left CA I wondered if I would find a place for my comic needs as good as the one that I left behind. Although it's not right down the street from me as my old place was, they have definitely filled the bill. I was impressed from the first time I walked in. The staff was friendly and helpful to a degree that it takes other places several visits and getting to know you to get. I in no way felt like a first time patron here. They care about their customers and you can tell that they appreciate you and your business. As stated in another review, Dusty is the man. He is helpful and informative. One girl was friendly and greeted us and asked two times if we needed help. The blonde girl in the Slipknot shirt totally ignored us. The store was nice and had loads of cool things to browse. Random vintage and Disney crap amongst tons of comics and comic figures. I couldn't buy a single comic (technically) because all 4 I picked out (brand new) minus a 5th one (in good shape) were so awful. The middle of the comics were all misshapen like if you opened the comic down the middle, and put it face down on a table for like, decades so it stayed opened with a huge gap in the middle when closed. Hard to describe but almost every comic was like that. I've never ever been to a comic store where the comics were brand new but almost ALL in such terrible condition. They had all the new ones I needed :( luckily there's loads of other shops to get crisp not ghetto comics from. Won't be visiting here again unless I need to get something Disney for a gift for some one (for some reason). read more

I love to bring friends here from out of town, it's a great store with all kinds of neat collectibles -- from Simpsons to Marvel to Hello Kitty and everything in between. They've also got a small games section, which is where we usually make our purchases, but you can also buy comics, action figures (in their boxes, of course), and other sorts of memorabilia. It is definitely worth a visit, if only to see how much your Ninja Turtle would have been worth if you had taken better care of it! read more

The people there were quite friendly and they had what appeared to be a quite large selection of comic books. So maybe this seems like it's a good destination if you're a comic book fan. Or if you like action figures - they had a lot of those. I'm not really a comic book guy and was there for their "large" collection of science fiction novels (according to other reviews). I had great expectations (mea culpa) and was greatly let down. The collection of science fiction novels was two bookshelves with mostly nondescript, crappy titles. I know my science fiction and there were only 2-3 decent authors amongst the books and no decent titles. Very disappointed. I guess on the plus side they were relatively decent priced? read more

I really enjoy coming to this store. It was my first time and everyone was so pleasant. They had all kinds of new and gently used vintage products. It was fun just to browse. As far as comic shops go this place is pretty good it has lots of items and not limited to comics toys and other collectables are a plenty. I was looking for something elvira and i only founf here. I would give it more stars but the staff is not all that friendly and the sideshow figurines are boxed up and behind the counter. I collect those so I would like to see them out rather than have to open each box and there is not much counter space where they are to see them. As well putting them together over and over you can run a risk of damage. The parking needs adjusting. Still if you are looking for something star wars, blank variants or unique this is a great place to start. read more

So i heard from a friend that they were holding a variant cover of a comic that I wanted. I called about 30 minutes before they closed at 7:00 closing time yesterday and asked if they could hold it for me. they took down my name and said I had 24 hours to pick it up. I said my thank you and was super happy...until i arrived in the store around 5:00 today learning that they had SOLD OFF the comic they were holding for me. they even had the NERVE to say that i said i was coming in the morning to pick it up. first, i would have never said that because i have work and second, to even BLAME me, the customer, was downright unprofessional. even if i had never shown up, they should have still held the comic for me for 24 hours like they said they were going to. their lame excuse was that "oh we always get calls about people asking us to hold stuff for us and then they don't show up." well how about this for starters? first, you do not know me because this was my first time there and most definitely my LAST time there. second, i had always been skeptical about it since i've heard bad reviews and i now know that this was just down right BAD. third, i don't even have a yelp account until now JUST so i could express how upset i am with their lack of professionalism and rudeness. i'll stick with Bedrock City Comics. read more
