Still under staffed for many transactions types and I had to return due to delays. But all things considered, I think the Leads Ave branch has it going on. I went just as lunch was over on a Friday and was in & out in 38 minutes. So I can't complain too much... CONS: I doubt any were sitting in the lobby, but it wasn't as customer friendly as I would have expected when the goal is to collect taxes. PROS: I think just about everyone employed there is one. read more

the lady at the front desk when you first walk in to get you're ticket number was extremely rude and impatient. As someone who works in customer service I found her attitude horrible for someone who's face is the first thing people see when you walk in. read more

Front desk lady unhelpful and rude. Form given by police says return this form to DMV within 15 days but she talked to me like a child and pointed to the submit electronically section like I should have known better LOL. Mount Pleasant DMV is much better :) read more

The DMV will noy notify you regarding anything to do with benefiting you. If you have a payment plan and change your card, they will not notify you and will let your license expire. If your license expires or gets suspended for any reason to know knowledge of your own, they will not co tact you by any means. They will send you a ticket if you owe but they will not let you know if you have something expiring. They are greedy and selfish, like the rest of the government The amount of people I know that did not know they have a expired ir suspended license for various reasons were never once notified by the DMV. Which I feel they should be REQUIRED to do. Thats just being decent. So don't feel bad giving them attitude because at the end of they day they do not help us in anyway other than to profit them selves. read more

Absolutely terrible!!!!! I waited over 3hours to be seen. At 1:00 everyone ( and I mean everyone) left from their station with an over capacity lobby. I would rather drive 45 minutes out my way next time for better and faster service read more

This was the best DMV experience Ever! I Arrived at 10am, got checked in at 10:11 and was out the door at 10:31. Everyone was pleasant, focused, knowledgeable, and hardworking. I walked in with an accordion folder full of documents. Each document was meticulously checked for Authenticity ( I brought in all originals). My biggest concern was my Puerto Rican Birth certificate since it's been an issue of contention in recent Georgia news reports. The Fact if the matter is That the State Dept issued a complete Ban and Nullified ALL Puerto Rican Birth Certificates dated 2010 or before due to illegal immigrants getting their hands on them with the intent to gain entry into the Mainland. Everyone on the island and abroad were advised to update their birth certificates by the 2013 deadline ( there were TV Ads, posters, commercials on radio, internet postings for 3yrs) . Some folks did not do their do their due diligence and are still in possession of their old birth certificates. If you present an outdated/Nullified PR Birth Certificate anywhere in the USA, it's considered a fraudulent document and you can and/will be arrested. My original is dated 2013 and it is in compliance with the Federal Laws so thankfully, I had no issues. Below is the link to order a new version of the Puerto Rican birth certificate. https://www.vitalchek.com/birth-certificates/puerto-rico/puerto-rico-department-of-health 30 minutes after my arrival, I walked out with my Real ID with Veteran Designation and my temporary Special Permit license plate. My permanent veteran's plates came in the mail just 3 days later. I am grateful for the expeditious service! I highly recommend this location, just not on a Friday. read more

HUGE shout out to the lady who sits at window #9!!!! I was under the impression that in order to change your name, you go get your license changed first. Wrong. I skipped the step where you go to the social security office first. After completing all the paperwork (at her window because I didn't even get a moment to sit because my number was instantly called which was a complete shocker) we realized I really did need to go to SS first. She let me take my completed papers with me and return directly back to her window after completing the SS task. The first go-round had me in and out in about 40 minutes after waiting in a wrap around line. The second go-round had me in and out in about 20 minutes. AMAZING! read more

This DMV has the nicest most patient people working there. I've been to the DMV so many time in so many states and I this is the best DMV ever. Tbh fuck y'all bc you guys never answer the phone and the lines are too long and you guys aren't helpful at all so thanks.

My license was about to expire so I had to make a trip to the DMV. I also needed a "real id". The initial line was so long and I thought I would be there forever. But it moved pretty quickly. They have about 20 stations. They announce your number twice as well as flash it on the tv so you can't miss your turn. The staff was friendly. I was in and out in about 45 minutes which was much faster than I expected. read more

The DMV. What can you say about the DMV?? Well let's see. Bring your patience and your hand sanitizer! I've lived in SC for lots of years and have a love hate relationship with the DMV as most probably do. I usually am only here for getting my updated license plate sticker, and any time I've had to deal with a title. My license doesn't expire for a few years yet so I haven't had to mess with that in a long time. It really does just depend on the activity your needing down, what time of day you go, what day of the month you go and your experience can go from slow to mind blowingly slow!!! :) read more

If the West Ashley location hadn't closed due to a leasing issue, I would never set foot in this location based on the horror stories alone. With that being said, why did I give it four stars? First, there is a line. There will always be a line. However, there was a big dude that works for the DMV in the lobby, controlling the line, telling jokes, and talking with people to help pass the time. This guy deserves a raise and his own stand-up show. Once I got in and explained what I needed, I was probably seated for about 10 minutes at most. Barely enough time to play a couple of rounds of Candy Crush on my phone. The young lady who helped me was very sweet and friendly and actually acted like a pretty cool human being. Hire more people like her. Overall, in and out in about 30 minutes. No complaints. read more

I always dread going to go to the DMV for what ever reason, it's always painful. However I have to say today I took my daughter to take her driving test and it wasn't painful at all. There was a little bit of a line but all of the employees were so friendly and helpful. They kept the lines moving quickly while making jokes and being friendly. My daughter passed her test. She said the instructor was great, she helped relax and stay calm. Great job North Charelston DMV read more

I couldn't have been more pleased with my visit to the DMV today! After 10 years, I had to get my drivers license renewed, and was dreading this day. I planned for 2-3 hours. I arrived at 9:28, and was out before 10!!! What? Everything is computerized. I checked in at the first desk and was issued a number. I sat to complete a form, and my number was called before I could complete it! Did the eye test, paid the fee, then directed where to sit and wait for my new photo and ID. There is a TV, but it also displays on the side all the customer numbers and what station they should be at! Cool! Five minutes later, I get my photo taken. I sat to wait for the license to be processed, started to take out my phone, when my number is called again! Done! I'm outta here!!! See you on 2025!!! read more

DMV - The magic ticket! - Departments of Motor Vehicles Near Me - North Charleston, South Carolina

Had to write this on Yelp as well as Google since my experience was so bad.. As soon as my wife and I walked in, we were rudely YELLED at to "get out of the building and get to the back of the line!"... ... just for asking where we were supposed to wait (it was our first time coming to the DMV since COVID, and there were no signs or instructions given on their new check-in procedures). Just for asking a simple question.. So, anyways, we did as we were told, just figuring the the guy was having a bad day. When we finally made it to the front of the line again, my wife had a quick question, but she was rudely cut-off and told to leave the building. And the guy was WAYY out of line, literally said to my wife, "Go to the car HONEY." ...In the most condescending tone. Since when did they start hiring masochists? Again... just for politely ASKING what paperwork she needed to bring to get her REAL ID. Any time that I had a question, I was spoken to like a piece of dirt, even though I was nothing but polite to them. I get that it's a frustrating job at times, but there's absolutely NO reason for anybody to be THAT disrespectful to not just my wife and I, but almost EVERYONE who walked in after. The entire time I was sitting and filling out paperwork, I listened to the same two team members up front yell and speak disrespectfully to moms who had their kids with them, elderly people, and everyone in between. If anybody had a question, it was met with a snappy barked-out order as if it were some type of military boot camp. They did everything short of spitting in your face and actually cursing at people. 11/10 would Never return again. It's sad, because I've had good experiences here in the past, and there were always friendly people working. I can't speak for those working at the registers themselves, because it was so bad that I left before my appointment. But, maybe they would have been nice.. However, the greeters are some of the rudest people I've met in my entire time living in SC. read more

You know how you go to the DMV and you wait and you wait and you wait, or you pull up to the DMV and there are 300 people in front of you in line and you know that you're going to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner there? That might be every other DMV branch, but not this one. I pulled up, and there were lots and lots of other people in front of me. In fact, there were about 30 people in front of me to just have my docs checked to see if I had what I needed before I got a number to wait. It was PAAAAACCCCKKKKKED. Despite being packed, I was in and out (transaction complete) in under 30 minutes. This branch was organized and clean, and every single staff member was super helpful. If your experience is like the one I mentioned at the beginning, do yourself a favor and switch to this branch. You'll thank me later. Just be nice to these people so they continue being nice to us. read more

Once you get in the entrance and aren't in the snake line jammed in the hallway, honestly, for what you expect a DMV to give you, they aren't that bad. I've been in an out in 30 minutes before. Sad that's a marker to strive for, but we all know it is, and it has happened. Their electronic system sucks. It's 2018. There's no excuse for Columbia sending Charleston updates in less them 7 days other than they don't give enough of a shit to do it. Any reasonable system at slowest updates next business day. Absolute joke. So, in the end, it's an efficient DMV, but it's still a DMV. read more

I never thought I would give 5 stars to a DMV but here I go... When I walked into the DMV I thought I would be there for hours. I kid you not - there were over 30 people in line. Within 20 minutes I had been served and I was waiting to get my picture taken. Within 30 (total) minutes I was outta there. Every person who served me - 3 people - were super friendly. These people actually liked working here and they were nice. If you need a DMV check this one out. :) read more

Every time I go to the Leeds Ave DMV, I always stress the lines and the amount of time it would take. It took me about 20 min in line to get to the person at the front. I filled out the forms and was called up to the counter before I could finish the first form. I stood there filling out the rest of the form while the lady at the counter waited. This is probably why the line is so long at the DMV. I was able to get my new drivers license in 20 min. Probably the fastest time I have been through there. Just make sure you have all the right documents before you go or it's a waste of time. read more

woman at station 5 was extremely nice and helpful! highly recommend this SCDMV!!

So yeah, who gives the DMV 4 stars... THIS GUY. Would have been 5 if I didn't have to get 3 licenses replaced in 2 days, but I digress. The biggest issue for the DMV is always going to be the wait. If there is a line out front, snaking around, you know you will be there a while. Especially since it snakes by the bathrooms, it isn't always a pleasant experience. One thing that is cool, is that they have the CARES trailer on the side. Both days, I was able to get in and get out. Sometimes the greeter will take you over there, sometimes you have to ask. Or you can just walk over there and take a number if it is for a simple ID update. Unless they yell at you...hey, its the DMV... read more

I ALWAYS go into the DMV with feelings of trepidation. You know it's going to take forever, no matter what issue you are having. The DMV on Leeds is one of 2 locations that offers the motorcycle driving test, so I had to go to this location. Fortunately, I had an appointment (which I had to call and leave a voicemail and anxiously await a return call to make), so I didn't have to wait in the line at the door (which always seemed really long). I learned the hard way that they don't do motorcycle driving tests in the rain, information that surely could have been on the website (but I was unable to find it). I rescheduled for the next day with no issues. When I returned the following day, I was unable to pass the inspection, so we rescheduled for the next business day. I was pleased that they were able to easily accommodate appointments. Because I was there 3 different times, I dealt with several different DMV employees and each and every one was nice and courteous and patient. It made the experience much better. read more

I think the less you can say about visiting the DMV the better. I'm sitting here. The chairs are comfy and I haven't slipped into Purgatory much like visiting the California DMV (side note: I once spent six hours at a CA DMV and by the fourth hour I began to plan my escape much like Edmond Dantes in the Count of Monte Christo). This location is clean and filled with friendly people and a helpful and patient staff. I didn't have to wait long to meet with someone and as I did wait never once did I feel annoyed. While I wouldn't want to spent further time here I will let people know that if they have the DMV in their near future it won't be a terrible experience. read more

Best DMV ever. Needed a SC license since moving here and with my paperwork on hand was in and out in under 30 minutes.

Had an amazing experience! My representative Maggie was extremely helpful and patient with my registration issue. She was very friendly and helpful and I hope she realizes how great she was at making what could have been an arduous and frustrating experience into a positive one. read more

Excellent DMV! The staff is polite and helpful. The place is usually busy but they move people through the place pretty quickly. The waiting area is also larger than the DMV in west Ashley so you have more buffer room while you wait. I was very impressed with the place. read more

Absolutely worst experience I have EVER had at a DMV. The staff were very nice on the Friday shift, but the individuals on the Saturday shift were incredibly rude and dismissive. As I explained to the manager that a typo was made on my ID, she interrupted me in the middle of my story and said "They're human, what do you expect?". When I asked to see the photo before it was printed as an attendant had so nicely done so the day before, she told me she was not allowed to. If I could rate it 0 stars, I would. HORRIBLE! read more
