I'm probably not addressing the people responsible for my situation, but maybe you can put me in contact with someone who is (if there is).
I originally applied for VA Disability in January of 2010. It's now March of 2023. During that time I have been routed many ways through "the system".
Most recently, I had a video hearing with a judge on 12/16/2021. There were 3 separate issues addressed.
I got a favorable review on one of the issues about 8 months ago and am now considered TDIU (at 100%).
The second and third issues have yet remained unaddressed. What does it take to get a decision.
Not only that, but the TDIU (Totally Disabled & Individually Unemployable) was backdated to March of 2019. I was retired by federal civil service on 10/8/2010 as disabled and I haven't worked since.
The backdate, IMHO, should have been to that date. But even though it was remanded back to the judge, the date was unchanged. I don't understand how I can be retired on disability and 8+ years of that time are not considered at all. It doesn't seem logical unless the only standard applied was parting with the least amount of money possible. But I'm not surprised.
The two other issues remain unresolved after 15 months. What kind of "business" could stay open if they were so lackadaisical about being responsive.
One of these two issues is very important, as it involves healthcare for our 29-year old son who has been disabled since birth.
I don't expect either a reply to this review, nor do I expect that either of the remaining two issues will be addressed before Christmas (pick a year)
I've been retired from the Marine Corps for 5 years more than I served. I didn't put in for disability as I saw so many young men and women in various stages of broken forever at Walter Reed and Bethesda Hospitals. It was my bride who convinced me to apply for what I deserved.
I am now resorting to serious prayer that these two issues will be addressed faithfully and favorably.
I sure hope you have better luck with the VA. I loved my service and would do it all again. But as a 64 year old living in an 84 year old body I am very unhappy about these situations and feel I've had to fight the VA harder and longer than I may have had to fight any others during my service in the Marine Corps.
Be well and I pray you get better service.
Sincerely,
Marty Schnoor
