Lodi DMV suffers from the same problems most other CA DMVs suffer from. So you can expect some workers to be rude, long wait times, and generally a hard time getting a clear and straight answer to your questions. I will say this location is on the cleaner side for a DMV. But here is the BIG issue I had on my last visit. Security doesn't allow standing while waiting!? Excuse me? I went on a cold winter day that was about 45 degrees outside. I didn't want to stand outside in the cold, but also didn't want to sit in a crowded seating area where there was clearly sick people who were coughing, sneezing, and sniffling everywhere. Hey Security, this isn't the hottest local nightclub on a Friday night. This is a local DMV. People don't want to be there. They probably HAVE TO BE THERE. And like me, I literally wasn't allowed to do what I needed to do online. So you are forcing people into long wait times and now telling them HOW they must wait? That is crazy work! I just wanted to update my review because it's been 10 years since I reviewed this DMV but in my opinion it still gets four stars. I have been coming to this location since it was built and I understand that it's the DMV and it can be slow and frustrating but I think they do a very good job here. I needed to renew my driver's license and I have been trying to get an appointment online but they are weeks out. I'm in a hurry so I tried their new online option of getting in line before you actually get to the DMV and I want people to know about this because it was super helpful to me. It's the first week of September 2025, but the earliest appointment I could get at this location was the last week of September 2025. So I opted to use their "get in line now" option and it was super easy for me to get everything done quickly. I got in line digitally around 11:00 a.m. and was 37th in line I believe . Just after 1:00 p.m. I was 10th in line, so I got in my car and drove over to the DMV. Although there was a line out the front of the door as usual, there was still plenty of parking and by the time I walked through the doors I was fourth in line. The gentleman at the front was having difficulty explaining to people that they are no longer physically checking anyone in and that people need to check in digitally. I felt bad for him because he was really overwhelmed. However, I was able to find a seat and wait about 10 minutes to be called. It really stream lined the whole process. I was able to pay my fees, take my eye exam and get a new photo in less than 20 minutes after being called. All in all I was only gone from home about an hour for the entire process. I'm sure this location could do with more employees, just like any other DMV could, but I really feel they do the best job they can trying to get people through as quickly as possible and I appreciate it. read more

Came in to bring my brother to take his behind the wheel test. It was my first time here. I wasn't very fond of it. For starters.. smaller DMV I've ever encountered. No 6ft distance anything. It's so compact. I was uncomfortable. Not to mention very packed when we entered. Luckily my brother had an appointment! We still waited like 15 mins in line because they decided to take 4 non appointment people before us, even tho we were first in appointment line. Igs behind the wheel drivers can only go to one desk. That lady was busy with another lady for a while. Then as we're in line my brother tells me how he doesn't have his permit or ID. I'm like bruh foreal!? So he texted our other brother to take a picture of both items and hopefully they'd accept that.. but you know how them DMV employees be. Thankfully we got a cool lady. She accepted it. We drove car around and I hoped out with my daughter and waited for him to go. He got a lady instructor who ofc had no smile on her face just looked mad but I know that's how they have to be.. they like to make you feel nervous!! Lol. To the dreadful DMV ...I waited 45 minutes to get a number then another 1.5 hours to get called to pay $15 dollars in 3 minutes for a replacement registration. I had an appointment but still had to wait in line. The line went quite fast. I waited only about 10 minutes past my appointment time. The agent was quick and helpful. I waited in a long line for my photo where it says "do not wait in this area". :) It went fast though. When I left my front passenger tire went flat. I found out later that it had been deliberately stabbed. I filed a police report but only got a case number. It was vandalism probably because I have a Tesla. It cost $500 to replace and I am pretty upset about it. The police have not contacted me. So it is a week later and I suppose they will do nothing about it. Passed my license test here ! The lady who was testing me was super patient , calm and sweet, I wish I could have gotten her name , incredible person she was . I'd suggest anyone to come here to take the test , super fast and easy , usually takes about a 4 min drive and you're done ! Also, their was an older white woman I asked her if i could change my license picture and she didn't hesitate!! Amazing dmv ! Got here at 6:52 am and we were the third car (the first being a worker who was opening the gate). Naveed was kind enough to open the doors about 5 minutes before open which I appreciated, it was a little chilly. Accompanied my sister so that she could renew her disability placard. Naveed also happened to help us at the counter. He was quick to process what we needed. We were in and out in less then 7 minutes. DMV's are always busy open to close so if you're unable to get here early.. end up having to wait... don't be a Karen like the lady behind us huffing and puffing when the wait ISN'T bad at all. We all know the negative stereotype of the DMV so I'd like to leave a positive review. Firstly, I believe the lady that helped me was Dell (not sure if I got that exactly right) but, I came in to finish up a test I ran out of time for on a previous day and realistically she could have just processed it, sent me to testing, and I would have gone about my day not realizing there was a mistake somewhere along the lines (not from her) and my class B would have been dropped. In the world of DMV's, this place runs like a well oiled machine. The line system is streamlined, the staff are friendly and the wait is seriously not bad even at peak times. No complaints! I even found parking in the lot all three visits! I highly recommend this location. Helpful hint: The location is tucked away and sometimes hard to find if its your first time. They have sent us reminder emails of our appointment and even a voicemail reminder. We went today, about 25 minutes before our appointment time, and they are CLOSED! I would rate the Lodi DMV 3.5 stars. I came to renew my driver's license, get a REAL CA license, and a temporary driver's license (which is a piece of paper given after you take your new driver's license picture - Say CHEESE!). I didn't have an appt., so the long wait was expected. When I arrived at 1:30 p.m. on a Friday yesterday, the line was wrapped around the building. I liked how there was a staff member who came around and verified which service you came in for and checked if you had the appropriate documents. She was so friendly! I heard her say that she was new to another person in line. There were also taped "X's" on the ground for social distancing while waiting in line. Just an FYI for folks coming in to make a REAL CA ID or a REAL CA driver's license; you'll want to bring proof of identity, so I brought my U.S. passport, your actual Social Security card, and (2) documents showing proof of residency, so I brought a two different types of tax documents. You also have to fill out an application online and will be given a confirmation #. It takes about 10 minutes to complete. If you weren't aware of this, I'm sure the staff member will let you know and you can complete it while in line. It costs $37 to renew your driver's license, but the card reader charges an extra 2 and something %, so I recommend to bring cash. Hey, every penny in your pocket saved is a win to me! Two hours later, I was out the door with a temporary license in hand. I can't wait to receive my new REAL CA driver's license with my new pic! The reason why I did not give this place a solid 4 stars is because one of the staff members did not wear his mask correctly. It wasn't pulled up to cover his nose. It was as if he wasn't even wearing it because the mask was below his chin. If you're wearing a face mask and it's requirement to enter a facility, then one should wear it appropriately the entire time, especially if you're staff. I never saw him wear it where it covered his nose. read more

I came here during the week hopefully to avoid the long lines in Sacramento. I mistakenly came during lunch time so the wait was still 2 hours. While I was hoping for less of a wait time I am pretty certain it was still far less than Sacramento DMV. I loved their wait system and how you are given a letter/number and they take your phone number down so they text you when you are close to being called. I was able to leave for an hour and a half and visit a friend who lives in Lodi and come back right when I was being called. The staff I dealt with that day was extremely friendly and helpful. I can only imagine how stressful and hectic working there can be considering the amount of people that come in and out of the building and the workload involved. I appreciated the service I received and will definitely consider coming back to get my REAL ID soon. read more

I went in to this DMV a few days ago and had no appointment, but was able to stand in the disabled line. I only needed to renew my placard. I arrived around 12:30 PM and was shocked that there were quite a few parking places available. As I entered the building there was no more than 10 people in the regular line either. Plus they were serving bottles of water. Most likely since it was triple digits that day. I would much rather visit this DMV that the one in Stockton. I checked on line to see when appointments were available. Can you believe like three weeks out? yikes! So we went on a walk-in basis. It really was not that busy today. The front help desk only had one person in line. They checked our paperwork and gave us a number. The number system that they use is actually pretty efficient, considering... The employees were crankin'...going through the numbers rather fast. Total wait time was probably close to 30 minutes. Not too bad for a DMV...and to pass the time, I brought my new iphone to play with! :) Why are all DMV's so dinky and small? My daughter and I had a great experience here. DMVs are not fun, but we were treated very well. COVID regulations had lines forming outside and only 10 people sat inside at a time due to the distancing protocol. We were checked in quickly and didn't wait long before an employee checked on us and ushered us in. Each step of the way we were helped with smiles and jokes keeping the atmosphere fun and light. Each attendant cleaned all surfaces before calling up another person. My daughter passed and received her permit and the DMV employees congratulated her and cheered, they knew she was a little nervous. It was nice to see everyone working together and helping each other in a coordinated effort to keep everyone safe and clean and still manage to be efficient with a positive and helpful attitude. This is not what we usually experience at the DMV so seeing this definitely deserves recognition. read more

The service here is absolutely terrible. I had an appointment for a real Id and the lady In number 7 was very rude the entire time. I didn't understand something about the real id and instead of her explaining she was just rude the entire time and practically shoved my things back with attitude. This a good dmv to go to but the supervisor there doesn't know how to handle a situation that his employee made a mistake on. I was already at a window trying to paid for my vehicle registration but it's a little different since the vehicle have been on non op. This paper will not work at the kiosk,but the employee told to go there anyways to pay for it there. I leave the window so I lost my spot. Kiosk will not take my registration paper so I go back to the window and he told me to take a number and wait again?! Are you dumb or stupid? To wait another 3-4 hours before the ticket get called? The way the whole situation was handle was poor example of bad training and just down right having a bad supervisor on hand. I'll give it shot again hopefully someone can help me.
