I've been a DME Elevator customer since 2010 due to family needs. Have paid annually very handsomely around $1000 a year for a "complete service guarantee" Maintenance plan. In large font it states "We provide our technician service at no additional charge (With no additional charge being in bold letters and underlined). At any time during the term of of your agreement, you call, we come, no service charge. If that simple." " We offer a 20% discount on any parts needed" Recently, due to a power outage, we were getting a fault code and needed service. No parts were needed, and the technician Dan who was great and very competent corrected the issue within 10 minutes. Much to my surprise I was handed a bill with a service call for $360 and a trip charge of $90 totaling $450. I contested the bill with the office and was told that that the bill is correct. She then faxed a page to me, which I never signed, that in small print has a "Limitation of Responsibility" statement that says they will charge for labor under various circumstances. There is no spot for initials or a signature on this page acknowledging that a customer has received and reviewed and accepted those terms. Seems unethical and deceptive. I'm all about being fair and supporting small businesses but $450 for a 10 minute service call when you have a service contract seems excessive. read more

I could not be happier about my recent experience with DME Elevators and Lifts. From my first phone call to final installation, everything went as planned, on time and without a hitch. DME representative Noel was knowledgable, courteous and friendly. After explaining everything, and then evaluating and measuring our stairway, he suggested we visit the showroom in Lisle. Having a showroom where you can actually see and "test ride" various models and styles, puts DME shoulders above the compitition. I had to pay upfront before they came. Guy talked so much I had to ask him to please look at my stairlift. it was working but could shake, first he said it was battery , I told him I had just bought batteries year ago. Then he said it was motor or gears. didn't know how much i told him put it back together As i needed to know cost. He said office would let me know. I got estimate for motor over $2,000 and bunch of other fees. I said ty. then I got email that they had opening on Monday and I needed to respond before noon as they needed to troubleshoot more. ? . I purchased batteries on my own as I had before. and it worked! I'm 75 and widowed on fixed income. I told them that I bought new batteries as I had done in past. They said oh tech told you that's what you needed. You said you couldn't afford them. liars Shady in my opinion. Stay away. read more

Here is how you make money for doing nothing, this company charges your credit card, that they "need on file" for all clients, before they even show up. They charged me $300 on my credit card before my appointment, and for what? Just to show up? Didn't fix the issue. Do not give them your credit card information. Company that is honest does not need money upfront! Will never have them out again! read more

We needed service at a location on one of their installed lifts. After the service call, we were told that the issue was fixed. Two months later we discovered that there were still issues. The tech came back and helped discover another problem that was causing the issues. Although the problem was not with the lift, but with other items (not included in their scope of work), the problem was fixed and there was only a $25 charge--when there could have been a much higher bill. Bottom line-they stood behind their service and fixed a complicated issue! read more

They are the most dishonest company I've ever been doing business with!! Please do not call them!! They are out to steal your money!! I came to repair my elevator with no tools on their truck charged me $300,for 10 minutes worth of work!! Then proceeded to tell me he had no tools on his truck what a joke!! But he wanted to come back and fix the problem for $110 every half hour! After I had just paid for an hours worth of work and got nothing!! I will definitely be calling the Better Business Bureau!! To make a long story short, DME quoted me $1500 for a repair on my home elevator, which I sensed was a crazy number. I received another quote for the exact same part and labor from another company and it came in at $300! Shame on DME for trying to rip me off! read more

I, too, was not happy with the service department. I have had to have the battery replaced 2 times in the 2 years I've had the lift. Counting the original one, that is 3 batteries in two years. I was told several times the batteries last 3 to 5 years. I'm pretty sure they don't. Recently, I call ed to report that the battery quit again. I was told someone would call to schedule service. The next thing I knew a repairman showed up at my door ( $80 trip fee charged). Since the previous battery replacement was at no charge, and no cost was mentioned prior to the work, I assumed this, too, would not be charged. After the work was done, I was charged $280. There was no negotiating the cost or discount offered for the mismanagement of the call. The service manager's office was extremely rude and unwilling to compensate in any way. read more

Had DME move and install a chair lift. The receipt clearly states that the service call charge of $150 includes the first 30 minutes of labor, however, they would not give me credit for the first 30 minutes and charged me $25 per 10 minute interval or $75 over and above the $150 charge. I called to ask for a refund, but was told that no refund would be issued. They agreed that the total time was 3:75 hours, that I was to pay $150 for the service call, $225 for the first two hours labor and $25 per 10 minutes for additional labor. There was an additional 10.5 10 minute increments, which should have been reduced to 7.5 10 minute increments for a charge of $187.50. My total labor and service call charge should have been $562.50, I was charged $625 or overcharged $62.50. I made 3 calls to Lisa plus sent her explanations and spreadsheets. She said there was nothing she could do and the owner would have to get back to me. He never returned my call or e-mail. My total bill including parts was $945.00, I was overcharged $62.50, one would think that the company would have reimbursed the overcharge of $62.50. read more
