I've had such horrible luck with hair stylists since moving to the area and honestly it was really starting to affect my self worth, feeling so ugly because of my hair all the time. My hair is not difficult, I am a brunette who was just looking for some dimension in my hair. I decided to got with DL Lowry since it had such great reviews. I spent hours researching their stylists and picked the perfect one for my needs. I called weeks in advance and scheduled my appointment. I was really excited because I've been so down about my hair and I had a wedding coming up on Saturday and was really excited to look pretty. I'm crying as I write this because if you know what it's like to be done dirty by a salon then you know. It sucks. It beats you down. Hair is so important to me and so I was so excited. I felt like I finally was going to get beautiful hair again. Wrong. The night before my appointment I was so excited, I checked in online and while I was checking in I noticed a different name than the high level dimensional brunette stylist I extensively researched. I knew then that it was happening again and I was about to be shoved over. I called the next morning and sure enough, they switched the stylist to a different lower level stylist (who I'm sure is great) who doesn't specialize in what I wanted because the stylist I wanted had scheduled someone else and no longer had time for my spot. No call, no text. Just switched me. Maybe if they would've given me the courtesy of letting me know early I could've rescheduled for a time before the wedding. But no. Day of appointment when I called they informed me that they moved me and she would not have any time to see me. I informed them that I scheduled in advance and that the wedding was Saturday. They did not care. They said they would "make a note for next time" whatever that means, idk how that would help since the wedding will be long over and I can promise you I will never be going back. I feel like once again I as a customer and a person am so unimportant. read more

This doesn't even deserve a 1 star review. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. This place is a complete joke and the manager Ashley is arrogant, rude and abnoxious. My entire family and I have been going to this salon for 8 months. I've had lots of issue with their ability to do hair- the cuts were done inadequately choppy and uneven, and color was unprofessionally done with gaps throughout the color. I pointed these deficiencies out and instead of fixing their inability to do hair properly as professional hair stylists should, they put me on a list where I can only see one specific hairstylist. When I asked to change hair stylists, they blacklisted me, demeaned me/belittled me- I have absolutely never seen such outrageous unprofessional management and behaviour. The stylists and management are incapable of doing their job in this salon and disrespect and demean their clients. To summarize: They have no idea what they were doing--ignored everything I said, botched the cut, and the color is so bad it's laughable. I could've done a better job blindfolded in my bathroom. To make things worse, the staff was rude, dismissive, and acted like they were doing me a favor just by showing up. No apology, no accountability, just attitude. Absolute waste of time and money. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Thank you soooo much Carie for making me look fabulous for my birthday!!! DL Lowry is an amazing salon to go to! The stylists are friendly and very professional. I didn't feel uncomfortable sitting in the chair and was able to have a good conversation with my stylist that flowed. I had Carie and she took care of finding the perfect color for my hair. I just wanted something to make my black hair look richer in color. She was so chill and even let my best friend sit in on the appointment with me. I just asked for a richer black to make my hair more vibrant. I also asked for a simple blowout to really show my layers! Upon walking in I will say that having 2 desks is a little confusing, but the front desk ladies made check in easy and relaxing. Carie had a few girls ahead of me so Elle assisted in putting the barrier cream around my head so the color wouldn't dye my skin as well as putting the formula on my hair. I had a great time sitting and chatting with my best friend while letting the color set in. With a color you get a shampoo and condition, then a blowout. This all ran me around $115 without tip which was not bad for what I got. Love my color and blowout and will see Carie again. This is an outrageously expensive salon. I expected something innovative and fresh, and came equipped with ideas (pictures). I ended up with basically a blunt cut with a very small layer...Disappointment doesn't even come close to my feeling. At checkout, I was up charged (from the website listed cost) and given no privacy to figure out if I even wanted to tip--by the cashier's too-close, uncomfortable observation. The entire experience was disgusting to me. I called to come back in and was told no openings for a couple weeks. Meanwhile, I got a quick trim locally as I was attending an event, and then was told that since I had done this, they would have to re-charge me the full amount, again. What a disappointing experience as a new customer. I arrived at 5:55 pm for my 6 pm cut/color and check in. At about 6:05, while waiting to be seen, the manager/owners comes up to me and says, "What happened dear?" I said "what do you mean?" And she says, "your appointment was at 5." I say, no it was at six." She goes on to tell me they'd never book two services at 6 pm. I was too thrown off to say I'd never book for 5 pm. Then the hairdresser shows up and chimes in, "we sent you a confirmation email and the system shows you opened it." I said I didn't recall seeing it and then opened my phone to look at my email and text messages. To which owner/manager says, "Oh look at you, checking your messages!" I wasn't even sure what to make of that at this point. She lets me know I'll be charged a 50% fee for being late for the appointment. I said if I missed it was an honest mistake because I made it for 6.She offers to let me get my hair cut but reschedule a color, and I am assuming I would get the benefit of the doubt and not get charged. then I see the 50% charge receipt come through, and I ask if that's going to stand if I get my hair cut now, and she says yes, because you were late. So I pointed out she was being pennywise and pound foolish, throwing away a new customer that would've been a repeat customer, based on a technicality and based on a misunderstanding. And I totally get the idea of charging for no shows, but I also know you don't assume the worst of a new customer that showed up on time for what her calendar said. The smart thing would have been to reschedule and not charge, and pay the 50% fee to the stylist from the corporate account. read more

I'd been curious about this place for years, so last Sat went in for a Dermaplaning facial. The website stated it was $135 for an hour treatment. I arrived 10 min early and was escorted to a separate spa area in the back of the building. It was quiet and clean, but wouldn't say spa-like. It wasn't necessarily relaxing, there was no relaxation room, robes, offer of water/tea, etc. plus I noticed water stains on ceiling in the treatment room. The facialist came out at 1:30 (my appt time) to welcome me and give me a quick form to fill out, then guided me to my room. By the time I was undressed and procedure actually started, it was just past 1:40pm. The treatment itself was nice; the facialist was friendly and professional. That said, she missed an area on my lower left cheek where there's still peach fuzz (no biggie, but again for the price point I was a little disappointed.) After she finished and I slowly got up to get changed, my clock read 2:25pm. When I checked out I was told it was $140, even though I shared that the said $135. I will likely not come back. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but I when you pay $140 + tip for a 45 min facial you expect a little more all around. read more

Rude staff. I paid for my services with a credit card, as most people do these days, and was confused because there was no place to tip. The receptionist saw my confusion and said "we don't accept tips on credit cards. Cash is better for our employees. There's an ATM over there." Of course, the ATM charges fees. I don't carry cash so I said I'd be back the next day, and when I returned, I suggested that they should tell new customers about this policy since it is so outside the norm of what is expected. I was told, "well, I always do that, but some people think it's rude." No, it is rude to make customers pay extra fees or come back again to tip someone. I suspect some people just don't tip at all, but having worked in the service industry in the past, I wouldn't do that. Inform your customers. Simple request. read more

If you want to go to a salon that's all about money over customer service go here. Have gone there for awhile and was never really happy with it and finally moved on. I had to pay for senior stylist and then the assistants do most of the work. Also if you have to cancel without 24 hour notice they will charge a huge fee for it. Got a microdermabrasion spa there , it was the worst experience I've ever had . I've booked 1hour but literally got just 2 min of spot microdermabrasion ( not even the full face ) and 30 min of facial. Didn't like it at all. The costumer service wasn't friendly from the front desk . Instead of wondering why the gust is leaving upset and angry they just try to kick you out as quickly as possible . I just started going to this salon a few months ago and I must say that I am kicking myself for waiting so long! The salon is absolutely beautiful and stocked with all kinds of hair, facial, nail, jewelry, clothing & accessories when you enter. Very welcoming and immediately you get a sense of their style. As someone who previously worked in the salon industry, I was highly impressed with the layout, décor, and overall vibe of this boutique. Even though you may just pop-in for a hair cut or blow-out, you'll leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and like you've been pampered. Sometimes that's hard to do in a busy, noisy salon. I have only had hair services at this salon, and my stylist Lynn is just fabulous. She is very friendly, knowledgeable, and I certainly appreciate her recommendations/suggestions. Maybe this is just me but the two checkin/check out counters at opposite sides of the lobby are very annoying at times! Just now for example, I go in to buy products and there are employees and customers at both counters so I pick up what I need and head to a counter. That sales person leaves with the client who was in line ahead of me and doesn't come straight back. I'm called over from the other counter, as I walk over there a customer comes in to the store and heads to that counter so I wait behind her. Then another sales person calls me over to my original counter so I head back over there. Sorry but this happens a lot and it is quite simply getting old. read more

I have been visiting DL Lowry off and on for about 8 years and have always been supremely satisfied with my experiences. I will agree with other Yelpers that the prices do tend to wind up on the high side, but if I can leave a salon not in tears, feeling like a million bucks.......it's worth a few hundred. On my very first visit I told Shawn to do whatever he thought best and I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome....after that he took me blonde.....red....then back to brunette and it all looked fantastic. Most recently my hair was saved by Sameer and I left the salon with that same confidence I had before. He took the time to repair my hair before diving into the cut and color I had scheduling which i know took him way longer than anticipated. He never complained and kept an upbeat attitude and the final result was well worth it. Add the chic decor into the mix with professional/talented stylists and you have (in my humble opinion) the best salon in Indy!!!! The only thing keeping this salon from receiving the full 5 stars is the often rude and unaccommodating reception staff...........replace those few with some friendly souls and this place would be an absolute sanctuary. read more

I've never had my hair done here, but I like their style--especially their clothes. Last time I wandered in, a bevy of cute, not-too-expensive black dresses with minimal but modern embellishments dominated one rack; the other side held military boutique-style, cropped bomber jackets. I'm less thrilled with the jewelry, but that's just personal preference. Another cool thing: Instead of mints, they offer individually wrapped Jelly Bellies. read more

It was my first time at DL Lowry and definitely not my last. The quality of services provided was extremely professional and highly satisfactory. I started out in the spa with Danusia for an eyebrow wax. Please please take my advice and have her do your eyebrows! After the spa I went to Lucy for my highlights. She was able to take my indecisiveness about my color and give me exactly what I wanted. Finally I was off to Ashley for my cut. Just like the others before her, she was very professional and so friendly and cut my hair exactly like I described. I live overseas and only have my hair done when I am back in town visiting family. I will never go to another salon again. They may be a bit pricier than other salons, but when I look in the mirror and see exactly what I had envisioned, it is worth the few extra bucks! read more

My first visit was a success! My stylist, Ashley, was given a tough task. Shape, tame, and bring back to life my hair that hasn't seen shears for over six months. The salon is beautiful and filled with fun hair, nail, jewelry, and clothing when you enter. There are two desks on each side of the store. I was a little unsure where to go, but the smiles from the staff led me to the desk on the left. I checked in and got a couple minutes to browse. Ashley greeted me and we walked back to her station to consult about what I would like done. I shared a picture and we got started! Comfortable and private shampoo area that was very relaxing. She took her time and delivered a super head massage during the shampoo. Once at the chair Ashley was so personable and kind. I have a job that everyone can relate to. We shared lots of stories related to my job and personal experiences. All the time she kept working and was keeping a keen eye on detail. I went pretty short and I can't find any missed spots. Really happy with the results. I was charged only the base, $50. Easily this haircut is worth more. Make sure to tip nicely! Also, tips can not be added to credit cards. Only cash or a check. I have been going to Elsa for about two years now. She is a true artist. It is typically difficult to find stylists that have the creativity and talent to cut and style short hair for women. She is the best I've ever had. As for the experience at the salon, it is simply perfect. I went for the first time today for just a haircut and it was a wonderful experience! Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. Callie was my stylist today. When I initially came in she sat me down at her chair and just had a conversation on what I wanted to get done. It was a comfortable experience and it didn't feel rushed. When she went to wash my hair she gave a scalp and neck massage that felt very good. Callie was personable and made sure I got the look I wanted. At the end of the appointment, they give you an envelope with coupons and a book of all the services they offer. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! read more

I gave them 2 chances. First time I was kept waiting over 1 hour and 15 minutes. with no explanation. I kept checking in and was told over and over that it would be just a few minutes. No apology, no explanation. Finally gave up. Second time I went directly to the 49th and Penn location web site. Clicked on the make an appointment link - which by the way is really not user friendly as there is no way to put in a requested time. Requested appointment and got an email back with a time, which I confirmed. No phone call even though this is what the web site says will happen. Went to my appointment today and was told that my appointment was for the Nora location, they don't schedule appointments for 49th and Penn through the web site (even though the link is on the web site and there is no explanation). Again, no offer to try to schedule something for 49th and Penn, no real apology. The person who spoke to me acknowledged that they know the web site is bad and that others have complained. So do something about it, how hard can it be? Lost a customer for good - and as many others as I can tell. read more

She listened to my concerns and came up with a cute style that is extremely manageable (often I cannot recreate the style the way my stylist does it, but I have been able to do so easily with this cut!). I wasn't really sure how I wanted my hair cut, but my stylist, Tricia, was really helpful and innovative. I left feeling really great about my hair and overall appearance. I have been going to DL Lowry Hairspa Boutique throughout the last three years while attending school at a nearby University. The salon and spa are BEAUTIFUL. The simplicity and style is what attracted me to them initially. The layout and decor is unique and helps creates their overall feel and sophistication. You truly feel pampered from the moment you walk in. I have always felted very welcomed and taken care of. I call for an appointment and have no problem getting in on my time frame. You walk into the salon and immediately will be greeted from the receptionists at the desk. As you enter it's a boutique-like feel with racks of clothes and shelves of jewelry, makeup, beauty, and hair products for purchase. It's always filled with stylists who are occupied by customers (great sign). At this point I have only used their spa services for eyebrow waxing and shaping. This is back in the spa. The spa has it's own place separate from the open hair salon. I'm immediately relaxed by the ambiance which includes soft music, candles, smells, and comfort. It is very personalized. Since my first appointment I have been paired with Monica Bloomer and have requested her since. My eyebrows have never looked better. She has helped shape them into what I have been trying for for years. She is a certified esthetician and massage therapist- always so warm and personal. We always have great convo. It is a pricey $25 for a short 5-10 min brow wax and shape appointment, but it is worth every penny knowing I will walk out happy. I have had nightmare experiences for years before this at other salons where stylists have no idea what they're doing and have butchered my brows taking years to get them back to normal. I have been having Shawn cut my hair for about 4 years. I tried to leave a few times for a cheaper cut, but I always came back to Shawn. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and Shawn was wonderful. He shaved my hair when it started falling out and did a great job of keeping me pumped up and staying positive so I didn't break down as I saw all my hair on the floor. He also had a make up consultant call me and talk through my eyebrow options for when my eyebrows fell out. She was great too. She wasn't trying to sell me anything, just was helping me figure things out. As my hair has been growing back Shawn has been great at helping me figure out what to do with it. I will be forever faithful. In general the salon is a nice, upscale, hip salon, but not snotty. The boutique is great too. Love, love, love it. read more

This experience was everything I needed and more. I was eagerly greeted by a style assistant who promptly took me to the consultation chair and brought me fresh water. I was introduced to Megan, Senior Stylist, who actually took the time to discuss my hair type, previous treatments, activity level and asked for my thoughts. She gave me the most beautiful honey-colored highlights and a fabulous long-layed cut. The perfect ending was volumes of curls that she taught me how to then do myself.
