I was a client of Danielle's for several years when she moved to California. My one star review is due to the decline of her services and the transition of focus away from client services and on to her "Big Money Stylist" business endeavors. As a client, slowly but surely I was relegated to assistants and other stylists, often used as a training apparatus for visiting stylists who were shadowing -- all while I paid a premium for HER services not an assistant or visitor (who she was also making money off of). From the client perspective there was a total conflict of interest -- her loyal clientele were only a means to an end. As far as the actual extensions go, beaded rows using hand-tied hair are not unique to Danielle and weren't invented by her -- she just monetized the process. Doing a generic google search for the terms above results in many similar methods, tutorials on YouTube, and more. It's kind of easy these days to find stylists doing similar methods who charge less of a premium, are easier to schedule with, and who actually care about their client's experience. read more

While I was extremely excited to come to this salon, I was extremely disappointed in the extensions I ended up getting. These extensions are not meant for people who have fine or thin hair! No matter what they tell you or what "Danielle" says on Instagram that it's meant for fine hair, and that she has extremely fine hair... I personally don't believe that to be true because of my own experience. I also have had many friends who experienced damage from the extensions. It was way to heavy and rough in my hair and caused bald spots in my lower scalp. Once I got my new NBR extensions, about 3 weeks in they became extremely painful and while I was on vacation I had my mom clip the extensions out with her jewelry pliers because of all the pain I was experiencing. My advice, spend your money elsewhere and don't spend over $2,000 on a service that makes promises that end up damaging your hair. Even if you're questioning if you should come here or not, don't spend over 2 grand and realize later it wasn't worth it. This review is almost entirely regarding the extensions themselves, as that's what you'll be getting going here. I'll be the first to say as someone born with fine, thin hair I always wanted to try hair extensions, and I also knew the risks that come wearing them with my hair type. I had tried other methods in the past, that caused damage, but I recovered from. I was intrigued by the natural beaded row method, with fewer attachment points it meant less damage. Little did I know, only 10 months with the extensions I would have multiple bald spots on my head. While a lot of the ladies at the salon are lovely and always accommodated my needs, this type of damage did not occur overnight, besides the bald spots caused by an allergic reaction to beads containing Nickel. If I had thicker, stronger hair, I think these are great. They work for a lot of people. But I wish I was told of the obvious thinning and balding, which is a drastic difference after only 10 months of low damage extensions. I had to go back 5 times in a 2 week period when extensions kept ripping out and hair kept falling out until I decided to go with my gut. These are great, high quality extensions and a very nice studio, but take caution with your hair type and make sure to check the thinning between appointments, because my hair is personally much worse off than it. Im giving 2 stars because while I was at the salon and when I left I was happy. My hair looked great. I was in and out with fresh color and 2 rows in 2.5 hours. The extensions are so flat and very discrete. It was 2 weeks later that I realized for the amount of money that was spent it and quality of hair and work it wasn't worth it. I used the products they gave me (oribe) and wash my hair only 2x per week. Ive had various extension methods over the last 10 years. By the end of the second week the extentions were already hanging pretty low. The color of the extensions were extremely brassy and no longer matched my hair or blended! I was so disappointed as I thought this was a long term solution, I thought the hair it self would last at least 6 months for the high price. When I asked during my consultation over the phone how much to move up the rows would be i was told "a fraction of the price". Yet at checkout I was quoted an additional $600 for a "color refresh and move up 1 month! I had my extensions done in October. Had them moved up elsewhere October 30 and she tried to fix the extension color however due to the poor quality of the hair it didnt last and exactly 2 months later I needed to invest in all new hair again. Hence the need for my review. Im obviously upset after spending so much money and needing to spend more so soon. If your a regular person (not super rich) like myself I would advise against this method as it will be a never ending black hole investment. If you have the money go for it! read more

I spent months researching the best place to get extensions, as I had never before had any. I'm very picky about what I do to my hair/body and only strive for the very best and NBR was that. I booked my appointment with Ian at DKW Salon. The receptionist Lorenso is who kept in touch with me to make sure I knew how to get to my appointment and gave me all the information I would need prior to my arrival. He also texted me and asked me if I would like any coffee or breakfast, and ordered me a cappuccino. When I arrived at my appointment, Lorenso greeted me with a hug and knew my name as soon as I walked through the door. He is so absolutely pleasant. I quickly got into the chair with Ian and he began studying my hair and deciding exactly what he wanted to do. He was very assertive and I immediately trusted him and let him decide what he would do and I sat back and relaxed. Not only was Ian the nicest hair stylist I've ever had the pleasure of being around, but he also has skills unlike any I've seen. Although I've never had extensions of my own, I've been around them my whole life and am very familiar with them. The extensions I got were unlike any I've ever seen. I went to DKW for the 1st time last month. I could not be happier with my extension and the entire experience. I have never worn extensions before, other then clip ins, and I had gone to a different salon before DKW. At the other salon I did get NBR, I had done lots of research and they seemed like they'd be the best for my type of hair. Once I got home I realized they didn't blend and you could easily see the break between my hair and the extensions. I was so disappointed, I was getting them in hopes of getting my confidence back. I decided to try one more time and go to the salon that my original stylist was trained at, DKW! Even though they didn't blend well I could see how how great it might look if they did. I did go to DKW and saw Jacqui! Not only do my extensions look amazing but so does my color and everything else about my hair. Everyone in this salon is so nice and so thoughtful. I have read some of the other reviews and a few mention they have to be because we are paying a premium, they really don't. I paid a premium at the other salon too. They didn't offer half of what DKW does in terms of customer service. My hair didn't blend because the stylist decided to not put in the mini row we discussed, and that I paid for, at my consultation. When I went to pick up a curling iron I had purchased I asked to take that hair with me. They wouldn't give it to me because thats not typically what they do. What I learned from going to two different salons is extensions really are something you have to do everyday to specialize in them. Most salons don't do just extensions, the one I went to originally didn't. I think that might be why they ended up slightly off, while still pretty. They were placed exactly right and they didn't have as much invested in them looking prefect. I want to go to the specialist when it comes to something like extension. I feel lucky to have found Jacqui and hope to have her make magic with my hair for many more years. She is sweet and takes a lot of pride in her art, what more could you ask for! Where do I begin? I gave this salon a try for 4 months but there were several issues. First, I was disappointed by my color done by Amanda and also her "I-know-better-than-you-attitude." She didn't give me the color I initially wanted, it was much darker than I had asked for. I had to go back a few days later to get a color correction. Amanda herself was too busy to take me so Krystal did my color, and had an attitude like she was doing me a big favor the whole time I was there. At my 6 week appointment, Amanda this time dyed my hair a much brighter blonde, which I had initially wanted, but since she had made me so dark at my first appointment with darker extensions to match, my extensions no longer matched the brighter color of my hair. At my next 6 week appointment, she made me yet a different shade of blond, this time a brassy blond, which no one wants! And my hair still didn't match my dark extensions. She also positioned them in a way where I couldn't part my hair on the normal side I part it because my extensions would show through! So annoying! She also tightened the beads so tight that I had headaches for a week after and caused a sore on my scalp where it was pulled so tight (I don't have this problem anymore since I started going to a different salon who uses the same method). I always voiced my concerns, but they were always shot down by Amanda who I didn't feel listened to me at all. After all of this, I started searching for a new stylist at another salon who had to do a color correction and also placed the extensions in a way where I wasn't constantly paranoid that they were showing. What is the point of getting extensions when they don't match your hair and you're constantly paranoid that they're showing?? I was expecting better quality work because this salon is NOT cheap. They told me I required 3 rows at my initial appointment which was $2200. Then at my second appointment Amanda said I could do just 2 rows. Great, but then I have a whole row of hair in a ziplock bag that I paid for and am no longer using!!! Each 6 week appointment is at least $700. I get it, extensions are an investment, but I spent $3500 here in just a few months and was never happy with the result! Don't get fooled by their instagram pictures. I had been going to DKW for a while when COVID hit. Immediately - these savvy owners sent out an offer to get extra $ when purchasing a gift card, which I did. It was also a way I could help out this salon during a time that I knew they would be going through a lot of difficulty with their business being shut down. After a few weeks, they offered to come to my house and do my hair in my back yard for an additional $150 fee, which I agreed to, so that I could stay safe. However, when I tried to set up a second appt. - they at first refused, recommending that I come into the salon. The second time I asked, they said they would but now it would be $300. This felt like a bit of an unethical jab with it being COVID and with me already paying a premium for their services ($2400+)..It is one thing to go into a salon, during COVID, for a 20 minute hair cut. It is quite another thing to go into a salon for 4+ hours during the time of COVID (as an aside one of the stylists was later IG'ing her COVID journey???!!) I reached out to the owner, who's personal brand is the "big money stylist," and expressed my concern that this puts her clients in a precarious position of having to choose between their health and their pocketbook. I don't even know where to start with Ian and NBR hair extensions... the two things combined have forever changed my self confidence and salon experience FOR THE BETTER! First of all, in the last 5 years I've been through multiple extension methods (beads, sew in, tape ins, etc) and I've had them done in major cities by top stylists in Miami, Dallas, Portland, Seattle and Scottsdale. I came to my very first appointment a hot mess and defeated...I recently spent a year recovering from a brutal car wreck where my previous tape in extensions literally DREADED into my hair and had to cut off 5 inches of my natural hair in the process. I came to Ian skeptical we could ever get my hair back to its former car wreck beauty. After my first appointment I left with my expectations blown out of the water (almost in tears I might add) it had been so long since I felt that good about myself... that my blonde had looked so bright... that my hair had looked so long and full!! The whole client experience with Lo greeting me and getting to know me, offering me drinks & snacks. Making sure I was fully accommodated - then to Ian working his absolute magic left me in awe. Now after my third appointment at DKW I'm STILL getting my expectations exceeded. Each appt Ian has progressed my color, added a third row and completely protected the integrity of my hair. When I heard she started working here I just knew immediately that I had to see her and get myself some NBR extensions. My wedding is coming up and I heard these were the best extensions on the market...and they were right! I have fine thin hair and I wanted to have beautiful long thick locks so I did my research and found natural beaded rows. Leaving the salon that day I loved the look of my natural beaded rows, but after my first move up I noticed I had much less hair. My stylist insisted it was because I didn't have all of my hair in and I grabbed my hair, put it in a pony tail and instantly knew that my hair was gone. However, I loved the look of the NBR and kept going. I had 3 more move ups until I just didn't want them on my scalp any longer. I had them removed and I now have 1/3 of the hair that I had and had to chop my hair off to chin length. They will insist that your hair will grown and it does, but after they chop into your real hair it will be all different lengths and I had a baby pony tail mullet this week. If you have fine or thin hair - do not pay DKW Styling (or any other NBR Salon) thousands of dollars for them to help your hair fall out faster than it would have fallen out on its own. Luckily, I have a pretty face and I am dealing with my bald spots and my thinner than thin hair by wearing extra makeup and hats! The worst $2800 I have ever spent. read more

This is my first bad review. I called and sent social media requests to see if they could suggest a hair colorist in the area as they do not do cut or color unless you have the $2000 hair extensions. No call back. No reply. Could careless about building local clientele. They are new to Laguna Beach and don't understand that the locals are what make this town. The other thing I noticed is they are constantly filming in the salon, they also run like a tony Robbins style business and encourage their stylists to charge an arm and a leg. The most incredible salon experience I have ever had has been at DKW Styling. I was nervous to get extensions. I have tried many different types but after following Danielle's work I knew I was in great hands. Danielle took time to ask me what I wanted and then Danielle educated me on the process and my color and what she felt she could create with my hair. She was so confident in her artistry I said just do your magic. It was a process but my hair was not in the best condition and that's why I wanted extensions. My hair is corse and has stopped growing past a certain length. I wanted length, fullness and a more natural blonde color. Danielle worked her magic all right. I was almost in tears with the transformation. I truly felt alive and like me again. I was confident before but my new hair just set my confidence on fire.
