I always went to DJ's for years as well as my family. I love everything from the freshly baked goods,to the freshly made food. I have been busy with everyday life that I haven't been there in a while. I went today and I was excited to see all the great things the store has that I was trying to rush out. I got an Italian sub , talk about flavorful,fresh and delicious. The pickles those were not the regular jar pickles. I also brought paczkis. Live really close here come quite often. We got 2-Reuben sandwiches with the sauerkraut and pastrami, which are my kids favorite sandwiches and then we got a cold roast beef sandwich on a roll. There's nothing better than a European deli sandwich. They put so much meat on it it's thinly sliced flavored nicely. They're beautiful sandwiches. I highly recommend. then we got a few little candies and snacks and drinks, but this is a go to market if you really want a great authentic deli sandwich. Price is perfect for all you get. I was dying for a delicious paczki and have been following DJ's market on instagram, so I drove the 1/2 hr each way. As you can see they were beautiful on the outside and lots of filling on the inside, but the dough was not fresh. Tried nuking them for a few seconds, unfortunately didn't work. Great spot. Food is fresh and made in house. Me and my friends stopped in for the kielbasa breakfast sandwich - kielbasa was crisp and had the perfect snap that made each bite an experience. Top on some fresh fried eggs and cheese and you got yourself a unit of a meal. Quoting my buddy, "if this was by my office, I would eat here everyday". Service is also very friendly and attentive, which always what separates the great from the good. They have other stuff in house like fresh donuts and many specialty items. I simply don't know if I could ever give a sandwich shop 5 stars, but the fact that I can also buy some unique and tasty groceries here that would be difficult to find anywhere else in the area seals the deal. Everything I've had here is good but the slambasa, ask for with "everything," (spicy mustard, other spicy stuff to get all over your shirt) is absolutely amazing, make sure to get extra napkins and don't be wearing your favorite white shirt. Polish pickles, canned goods, and soft-drinks are also the real deal and may I say "bolder" than their American counter parts tend to be, i can not always read the ingredients but im still alive. I was in the South Bay Center and was wanting a lunch that wasn't from a chain, so I pulled out my Yelp app and did a quick search for "lunch." D&J Market was just a couple of minutes away, and parking was available right on the street, which made my visit easy. Their deli counter is in the back, with several men providing patient, satisfactory service. To avoid disappointment, consider their chalk menu board more as a suggestion board, as a number of the items were out. Although if I had 20 minutes, they offered to make some pierogies fresh for me. For the day's soups, check out the paper posted on the counter instead of the chalk board. In the end, I went with one stuffed cabbage $3.75 (a huge cabbage leaf stuffed with ground pork and rice in tomato sauce), one cheese crepe $3 (served cold), and after I discovered the display of pastries by the front counter, 3 mini paczki (donuts) for $1 (no stuffing). In the other front corner there was a counter with 2 stools, and a table in the corner with a few more chairs. This in addition to the benches set outside. It was a firm mound of meat wrapped in the cabbage leaf. It was a bit mild, but the marinara sauce was well flavored and improved the dish. The cheese crepe was pretty good, but the mini donuts were kind of plain, and a mild sweet that didn't quite do it for me. Boston needs more spots with soul and character like DJ's. You'll want to come here for the sandwiches or the donuts, both of which are pretty awesome. There is quite a long list to choose from for the sandwiches. While good, I was not overly impressed by the famed fidelski. I did really enjoy the kielbasa with saurkraut and will be definitely back for that. The donuts are what stole the show for me. The plum variety might be the best donut I've ever had anywhere. Aside from sandwiches, DJ also offers a variety of European goods. While the selection is not exhaustive, they do offer a good variety of mustards, spices and sweets you would not typically find in a local supermarket. Overall, it's not the most convenient location for me, but I would definitely stop by for a donut or sandwich if in the area. read more

Great polish deli in Dorchester that has been there for years. Right off JFK exit in the old polish section so easy to get to. Great sandwiches and huge. We had their home cooked roast beef sandwich (available every day until they run out). It was delicious. The roll, which in my opinion, makes or breaks a sandwich, was bakery fresh. The sandwich is pricey but huge. I had a small and couldn't finish it. My husband had a large and only ate half until later. They also have roast beef, turkey and meatloaf sold as dinners served with mashed potatoes, etc. We also bought homemade cheddar/potatoe perogies, also great. They can be served plain or with onion/bacon sauce. In the past we've taken kielbasa home to cook, they sell all kinds of polish deli meat and cheese. All kinds of deli sandwiches available too. I bought $50 worth of Pączki (Traditional Polish jelly donuts) during Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek) for my co-workers and they LOVED them! Not a single one was left. DJ's had all the classic flavors; raspberry, plum, cream and my all-time favorite that I can't find anywhere in the States, ROSE (yes, you read that correctly, and it's delicious-just like back in Poland) in addition to those, Nutella and apple flavors were a fun and delicious alternative. Hands down best lunch spot in the area! Polish deli and market with most things you'd expect in any American deli, plus plenty of Polish options you can't get elsewhere. The meatball sandwich is also very good, better than some "Italian delis" I've tried in the past. Besides the sandwiches, they also make their own pierogis and bake their own paczkis (fried dough, kind of like zeppoli) every day. The big ones are filled with different flavors of pastry filling and the small ones are just coated with powdered sugar (aka they're donut holes). They also have several options of cold brew coffee on tap, and then a wide variety of staple items you'd expect in any quality market. They accept mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google, etc) which is also very convenient. read more

I'm biased, and Polish, but I just had the best sandwich from the deli counter. I picked up food for a bereaving friend, and got lunch as well. Lot of really neat foods and a good variety. They sometimes sell slightly past expiration date items, but at a discount, so that's nothing you find find in a traditional ethnic market. If you ask the counter woman what's good in Polish, she'll select the best pastries for you. I've been here a few times, and I'm always glad to stop by when I can find easy parking. read more

Update time: I've been back to D & J five or six times in the past few months and had a decent sampling of what they offer. My quick thoughts: Every sandwich is awesome. I've had the roasted pork, turkey, the fidelski (polish cuban), the rycki indyk, and the moscow morski. They've got like 50 sandwiches on the menu, so I doubt I'll ever have them all. Maybe that's a stretch goal. Either way, all great. Every meat is sliced fresh and to my knowledge, most are made in house. I think they bake all their own bread, too. I also had the chili, which is award winning. It was good, but I'm from the midwest and have high standards for chili, so I can't say it was the best I ever had. With their "best subs in Boston" sign proudly displayed out front, I was expecting big things. A variety of bread choices, sprouts, honey mustards, pesto spread--you know, the regulars. But this place is different. It's the kind of sandwich-making market that almost requires you to change into your Carhartt overalls beforehand and bring your lunch tin and thermos along for the ride. No fancy toppings here. This is a regular old sandwich place with classic mustard only. They've also got an interesting selection of Polish grocery items (candy!), and fresh breads from somewhere by the checkout counter. Also had 2 of their sandwiches, can't remember which, but they were tasty and very generous portions. They also have lots of euro/polish food which was great. Hahaha I felt like a kid in a candy shop trying new things.
