Great North is truly one of my favorite places to visit in NH. It's fun to stop in on a really busy…read moreday and meet some of the other NH residents who share a passion for locally-brewed craft beer. It's just as nice to stop in on a less busy day too as the staff is very friendly and love chatting about the different styles of beer they have. Often the owners of the brewery are right at the bar. A quick chat or even a more in-depth discussion with them will quickly show you how passionate they are about their craft. My friend and I both brew our own beer and they're always asking us about our own recent brews, sharing ideas and giving feedback. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, so even on busy days it doesn't feel cramped. They have live music weekly (Saturdays), board games for the family (as well as board game nights) and plenty of delicious snacks for if you get hungry during your beer sampling. My absolute favorite brew from them is the Tragically Hopped double IPA (available seasonally in mid-summer) Black Bear stout (often available in the winter) and their self-named Great North IPA, which is a delicious West Coast-styled IPA that's just as good drinking on its own as it is with a sandwich (or burger and fries if you see it on tap at a local pub).

We went in and it was just a very friendly welcome. Airy and spacious, with a high tech beer menu board that visually depicts what they have and how much is left. There are two main spaces for seating, the main storefront and next door, connected by an archway. The beers are superb. As an IPA lover, I started with their DIPA Alien Autopsy and followed it with the Sasquatch, a single IPA. My other half had the Blueberry and the Festival King, an imperial pumpkin ale. All were amazingly good. Ogie has a First Responder and Military Board where you can pay forward a drink so those folks who keep us safe, can enjoy a libation. I thought that was a class detail. The clientele was amicable, easy going and obviously, local. This is a unique place with first-rate beers.

For apps, the Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls were crispy and packed with flavor, and the housemade beer cheese with tater tots was perfectly balanced. I tried two entrées: the Chicken Caesar Wrap, which had a surprising crunch from roasted breadcrumbs added by the chef (Johnson & Wales alumni), and the Granite Town Flatbread, where the jalapeño jam gave just the right sweet heat to the layered toppings. For drinks, I tried the robust and smooth Patchwork Palace porter. There were also lots of IPAs to choose from (but I'm not an IPA fan), and for non-beer drinkers, they brew their own hard seltzer, customizable with flavor syrups. The unflavored seltzer had a subtle sweet citrus note, which Bill, the owner and brewer, explained comes from the fermentation process. I also love that they locally source ingredients and have a "Pay It Forward" board, offering free drinks to first responders and military. It really shows the kind of community-minded business Ogie's is. If you haven't visited yet, it's worth checking out. The vibe is relaxed, the food and drinks are excellent, and there are board games to enjoy. It's a great spot for a date night or hanging with friends. My experience in the area overall leads me to warn any sour drinkers that this is NOT the region to order sours... I think that's the best way to put it.
