I was a bridesmaid in a wedding in June 2016 at Walden West where Warren was the DJ. He did a good job with the ceremony music and introductions of the bridal party, and a good job keeping the party going. We did have a major problem with the music selection, though, that really gave me a negative opinion of Warren.
Before the wedding, the bride had given the DJ a list of songs that the wedding guests had selected. According to the bride, Warren told her that he would not play any songs the bride did not approve of, and would play lots of songs from that list- something that he suggested. During the first hour of dancing, the bride was nowhere to be seen, so I tracked her down and she said that the DJ wasn't playing any of her songs- and she didn't even know who sang the current song. So I approached Warren and asked him to play only the songs on the bride's list, and he said ok. But the music didn't change, and 3-4 songs went by and the bride still didn't recognize them. So I approached him again and asked him to play a song by a specific artist, and he said that the songs on the bride's list were not "danceable." I told him that I'd make sure people kept dancing, please just play the songs. No changes. I had the groom talk to him, and saw him talking to the couple separately. At one point I asked him to just play five songs from the list, and he said he could do that. FINALLY at least an hour into dancing, he started playing the songs from the request list, and it was a huge hit. He stuck to the list after that. But seriously- it took talking to him more than four times, and ultimately he would not listen to a bridesmaid, he had to hear it from the groom.
DJ Warren, please don't make this mistake again. The rest of the night was a big hit, but we lost an hour of having the bride and groom on the dance floor while they waited for their songs to be played. It doesn't matter if you deem the songs danceable, it's their wedding and they know what music they want to hear. read more
