If I could give 1 star I would! The DJ Guy is awful! Terrible customer service and the worst guy to work with! He is so rude and unprofessional! The planning process was not fun at all and the DJ was sub par! I wish I would have done more research before I booked! They have TWO! Yelps and both have a slew of terrible reviews! Read them! We hired DJ Guy Inc for my daughter's graduation party in May & they made sound & lighting an absolute breeze. Our planner suggested that we provide market lighting, since the venue was outdoor & next to the ocean. Instead of paying $1,000 for market lighting, DJ Guy made recommendations about up-lighting. The up-lights that he recommended provided ample lighting throughout the evening & saved me money. THANK YOU DJ GUY!! DJ Guy was great at communicating before the event, & working with me to finalize my DJ timeline, slideshow, reception flow, request lists, you name it. He also did a really good job of prepping the speech givers & putting them at ease (letting them know how far away to hold the mic, etc.). He is very professional, & an amazing DJ! He answered my never ending text messages even when he was out of the county (in Oslo) on vacation. As soon as we met DJ Guy from the Admiral Baker Event Fair, we immediately had a call from DJ Guy. We booked an appointment & discussed the vibe & our taste in music. We followed up about 90 days before the big day with a song list & recommended schedule for DJ Guy & it was smooth sailing from there. Everything ran so smoothly at our party, & everyone had a blast! DJ Guy are professionals from start to finish. I had no idea what to expect, as I don't have much experience with weddings or getting married. I emailed them asking for a quote and Roy emailed back within a minute! All our email and phone correspondences had a quick turnaround; he is highly responsive, no matter what time of day or night I was emailing with a question. Roy is very cordial and helped me feel at ease because he handled everything. He explained things in a way that made sense and was clear and straightforward. When it came time to discuss the wedding day, he told us how the wedding day schedule was going to go, since we were having our venue at a Navy Base. He also had a lot of good ideas for the music for different parts of the wedding as well as got a feel for what music would suit us as people based on our tastes. We handled payment very well and was easy and no hidden fees. We got the package that included DJ, photo booth, uplighting, and photo booth album. Roy was very kind and also included glow Wands, dance lighting, and our monogram initial on the dance floor. They have a neat system for selecting music for the couple as well as guests. If the song is not in their system, you can request it personally. On the event, our DJ was Nicolas and he was amazing! He's very personable, nice, and ran the wedding because we all didn't know what to do. He made sure we were in place and knew what to expect. He worked very well with the wedding party, us (bride and groom), and the guests and made sure everything felt comfortable and was having fun. He was also very flexible with the schedule and played great music for each part of the night. The photo booth operator was also very nice and personable. There is a personalized printed photo strip with our names and date on top. They print two copies; one for guests and one for the photo album. The guests can write a note in the album and we take it home at the end. We also receive a digital version of the album. Everyone complimented the DJ, the music, and loved his work! Kept the day of the wedding organized and on schedule Overall I was happy with DJ Guy but there were three things that I would like to provide constructive feedback to them in hopes they can improve upon this: 1. Emailing/calling back response time: I often did not get a reply back from DJ Guy for a couple of weeks. I understand DJs are busy guys but I would consider making sure you get back to customers without 72 hours. 2. The actually guy who DJed the event was different from the guy we had worked with in the planning stages for a year. This isn't so bad, and the guy who ended up DJing the wedding was very nice, but a phone call to give us a heads up would have been appreciated. 3. Only 4 of the 10 "Must Play" songs on the list got played. That's a bummer, because there were some very special songs on that list that I was sad I was not able to dance to at the reception. If they could work on those three points I made, then they would deserve a five start rating. But I will stick with four, and hey that's still a good rating and overall it was a wonderful reception and it looks like all the guests had a lot of fun. I will the review with a fun story that happened during the reception. One of the groomsmen requested "Bohemian Rhapsody" and by the end of the song just about everyone was singing along. When the song faded out, Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" came on, and the DJ starting passing around the mic and we had a little karaoke jam session. We are so happy with DJ Guy.. and we were so blessed to have DJ Roy at our wedding. DJ Guy was recommended to us by a family friend. When we first met Roy for consultation, he played a song sample for bride entrance. I immediately cried because he chose a perfect song where I could imagine walking down the aisle to meet my groom. The consultation process was easy, and made connection right away. The song selection process could not be more simple as well. DJ Roy was organized, to the point, and heard our needs. Wedding day was a lot of fun!! Roy looked great and talked with me before the ceremony. He gave me some words of encouragement and told me to have fun!! It's my wedding!! During ceremony, the music went flawless. At the reception, he made sure everyone was having fun. We requested personal music choice and worked out perfectly. Let me start off with this; our wedding had a couple hiccups... about 45 min late due to a HUGE TREE that fell into the middle of the road that was the only paved way to get to our venue. We ended up taking a dirt horse trails to get there. Roy helped my husband get everything ready after he was done setting up his equipment, kept the music playing and kept the guests happy. When my bridal party and I got to the venue, he personally came down to welcome me, made sure I was drinking water and reassured me that everything was going to be perfect. After the ceremony was cocktail hour/photos which was beautiful music that kept the flow so everyone felt comfortable to mingle. Roy helped us with the wedding coordination, as my husband and I were off with our photographer, he got everyone moving to make sure everyone had a drink for the toast and announced the opening of the buffet. Our first dance(The dry ice fog and monogram was such an amazing touch), mother/son - father/bride dances were seamless, and the flow was flawless. Once the cake cutting, garter and bouquet toss were out of the way, the party started! The sun started to set and he put the up-lighting inside with all of the other lighting, I have never thought my wedding would look and sound so much like a classy club! I wish I could give negative stars. DJ Guy was the most rude and unprofessional DJ I have ever had, and unfortunately it was for my wedding. Our venue was contracted with him, so we figured everything would be fine. We love music, so we wanted our day to be filled with the songs we love. Right off the bat he seemed annoyed by this, and kept wanting to include his own picks and would make awkward comments at my selections. We wanted a reception entrance song for our officiant (who is a wounded vet and dear friend), and he made a rude comment about how usual it was. I was stressed about the timing on my bridal ceremony song, and wanted to make sure it wasn't cut too short. His response to me was "I'm pretty sure I've been to more weddings than you, don't worry about it." The day of: *He played his own selection before dinner after I specifically asked him to only play songs from our playlist, and when I asked him to change it, he made a rude comment about how I wouldn't know the difference since I listed one song on my playlist with the incorrect artist. *Played the wrong song in the beginning of our bride/groom reception entrance. *I heard from multiple guests that he mumbled through the dinner announcements and nobody could hear or understand him, and when my stepmother asked him to repeat the announcement he was extremely rude to her. He continued to be rude to her when she tried to make sure my father was available for the dinner blessing, and yelled at her for adjusting one of the barn doors. *After saying over and over again that I wanted my biological father/daughter dance before my stepfather/daughter dance, he did the exact opposite. I paused to give him time to fix the mistake, and he announce in front of all our guests something to the effect of "are you going to get out there and dance or not." *He announced the mother/son dance as the father-son dance. Twice. *Multiple guests asked if the dance music could be turned up because it was hard to hear. He ignored them, so I asked but the music never seemed to get any louder. *Never announced our last song. Bottom line: When you pay for a service, especially for such an important event like a wedding, you expect professionalism and courtesy at the very least. When you contract a company for their acclaimed "specialization," you assume your $1,000+ investment will give you a return of something equal to your investment. In contracting with DJ GUY, you will fail miserably. I was able to watch first hand on how unprofessional and despicable this company treats their clients. This company is a joke. They have the equipment to be great, but lack horribly in skill. I would not have minded so much, but the way they handled and treated the clients, you would think they knew what they were talking about... but they're all just TALK! VERY, VERY MISLEADING!! I was in a bridal party that hired these fools. The bride gushed about THIS and THAT. I thought everything was going to be under control. I met DJ PICO PACO and he was very confidant that he had things under control. I'll admit, I thought things were going to be okay... but sadly, that was not the case. I could list everything that went wrong (which was basically everything), but when it really comes down to it... this company does not have the skill or professionalism to be charging an arm and a leg for what they offer. In the official contract, there is a segment that clearly states that if the agenda does not go according to plan, the deejay will accommodate and adapt to the change and let the show go on. That is not how the reception played out... there was dead air, hiccups, wrong music being played at wrong times, and utter confusion on both sides. The wedding party (family+guest+actual bride&groom) thought the DJ was suppose to play music, announce the next activity and so forth, and DJ PICO PACO simply just sat there and pressed play on his over sized techno-table with no brain in his head. A couple of things wrong with this picture... the company charged $1,000+ to have DJ GUY present at the reception, when in reality an iPOD could have done his job. What the wedding party really got was a DJ who talked back to his clients, did not dominate his job/responsibility, but simply went into auto-pilot when it was his time to take charge, and a dumb DJ who did not know a single song off of TOP 40 or even what's currently playing on the radio. That's cool, if you only spin techno and underground music, fine, but you're getting paid to service a wedding reception... could you not have done your homework? Could the company had taken the time and hired a decent human being who could know what his purpose was at a wedding reception?? I guess not because whatever happened on my best friend's wedding night was a disaster. Bottom line: Company defaults to plan, but when the plan fails, the company should have improvised, but did not due to lack of experience and skill. DJ GUY, you are a big FAIL in the music entertainment world and I really hope you take this review in consideration. Please don't talk back to your clients and try to scam the party for money you do not deserve. We just had our wedding last Saturday and working with this company is the only regret we have. The DJ can really make or break your wedding and DJ Guy broke ours. Everyone has the same comments about our wedding, "the wedding was beautiful but the DJ sucked". The DJ actually left his booth to eat his dinner in a separate room during our reception and the music cut out and there was complete silence for what seemed like forever. The DJ was also given a phonetic list of our bridal party names for our introductions a week in advance and the DJ mispronounced every single name. The DJ was suppose to be an MC as well but seems like he did not have any experience in MC'ing. Our timeline was not properly announced so we had people missing during important segments like the cake cutting portion with our thank you speech. What was more shocking was that he was not actually Dj'ing but pushing play on a laptop. Songs would abruptly stop and another song instantly played. wtf! However I DON'T blame the DJ for all of this, I blame the owner Roy for failing to prepare his staff and assigning an inexperienced DJ to our wedding. He only prepared the DJ 2 hours before the wedding. The DJ was nice and again this wasn't his fault. He was just inexperienced and unprepared. We met initially with the Owner Roy after hearing them at a bridal bazaar. He seemed great in the beginning which is why we booked him. Once we paid in full, it was all downhill from there. He is very difficult to work with and if I could post some of our emails on how rude and disrespectful this guy is to his customers, I would! If anyone wants to see them, let us know and we'll forward them to you! Roy lacks patience and cannot admit or take ownership to his faults. Instead of understanding his customers or being sympathetic, he argues and blames you. Our wedding is over and we cannot redo the event. I recently just had my debut and I can say, when I first met with one of the guys I really wanted him to be my DJ (I think his name is Julio). He really knew his stuff and I even tested him on mixing programs and etc. because I wanted my 18th birthday to be perfect. After contacting them, we had a meeting at the house of the owner of DJ Guy and he seemed very pushy. I didn't mind much because all I wanted was for Julio to DJ for my party. Then he said yes, that Julio would do my party. Their sound system is great and their song data base is okay (I have a lot of underground songs so that would make sense). But when we came closer to my party the owner of the business said that Julio had already been booked and that he was going to DJ my event (this was after we put the down payment of $500 or $1000. I was very upset. The owner is snobby and doesn't really know much. Working with the owner, he seemed very unprofessional. He used an Xbox to test out DVDs to see if they would work or not. He never let me finish my sentence and always challenged whatever I had to say. It was so evident that even my sister in law picked up on it. Even though the DVDs "did not work" according to the owner, he never said anything on how to make it compatible with his system. My best friend is a professional when it comes to technology so when I told him that the DVDs he burned me were wrong we were so frustrated and angry. Since they worked at my house, they even made me bring my own DVD player since none of theirs worked. Lastly, at my party the owner was horrible. -His timing was off for announcing names -He played music that was never on any of the song requests lists -He played the songs that I put in the I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO HEAR category -He never played any songs from the Guest request list, and only played random songs -He kept calling me bride when I am a debutante (like a quince but for Filipinos) -He made rude comments to my performers on the microphone after they performed -He kept cueing music to push people who were making speeches off the stage Overall, the owner of this company is very snobby, stubborn, and doesn't listen. My wedding was just this past Sunday and it went PERFECT! (except I forgot my ring to the ceremony and I had to use my Best Man's ring, yeah, I know, sounds like a cheesy movie.) Seriously, there really seems like either their competition or a former employee trying to slander them with some of these reviews. I just can't believe many of them are real. One of the reviews said that the DJ made fun of the groom's dad??? A bunch said they played cheesy country music and disco? More than one said they messed up the First Dance? Could DJs really screw things up that bad? I use Yelp for EVERYTHING. For some strange reason, I forgot to check yelp when I dropped $200 on the deposit to DJ Guy the day I visited their office. Yes, some of the reviews are correct in the manager Chris is a great salesman. Everything they presented, from the song list website for guests, to the monogram lights and ambiance lighting and the bilingual DJ and the price was good. Well, it wasn't cheap, but the price was very reasonable. So on the spot, I signed the contract. I went home and thought to myself, weird, why didn't I yelp first? I yelped it up and I almost threw up. Seriously, I had this sinking feeling that I f'ed up and my fiance was going to kill me at the wedding because I thought the DJ was going to make fun of everyone. I actually started researching other DJs and considered eating that $200 deposit loss. But I thought about it some more and did read one or two good reviews and thought that some of the negative reviews are so over the top horrible that they must be made up. A little while later, we got a very experienced San Diego wedding coordinator and when I mentioned DJ Guy, I was afraid that she was going to tell me that um, yeah, you better switch. But instead, she said that, oh, excellent, they are great and asked me for the name of the DJ I got. I said Julio and while she said that she hadn't worked with Julio before, they are all great. That took away so much of the anxiety, you can't even imagine (I was envisioning some of the worst case scenarios that the other negative reviews were painting). Anyhow, the day of, Julio set up on time, mics were perfect, my intro song was queued perfectly (Rocky theme). My First Dance was perfect. We actually gave him a special mix that required some minor acting on his part and Julio played it perfect. I also had a bunch of last minute changes to the agenda, like an additional speaker, shuffling of the speeches and First Dance times to accommodate the slightly delayed food. Julio handled it perfectly. In both English and Spanish. I know this review is way long but I'm pretty sure that DJ Guy is getting a false bad rap on Yelp. If you are considering them but don't believe me, then you might want to research some more and maybe ask your wedding coordinator if they have experience with them. One more thing that makes me suspicious about some of the reviews. Check out the filtered reviews section at the bottom. There are 34 filtered reviews, which is an abnormally high number. Also, a large number of them are 1 star negative reviews. If you look at other San Diego DJ reviews, there is the typical 5-star self-inflating reviews, but no 1 star filtered reviewed deemed fake by Yelp. DJ Guy has at least ten 1-star reviews deemed fake by Yelp. Someone seem to be going hard after them. I know I went a bit far in defending them that it seems like I'm working for them or something, but the reason I wrote this is that I flipped out during my wedding planning stage and almost canceled on them after reading the bad reviews and I absolute love using Yelp and it ticks me off that people are f--king with Yelp's validity. All I have to say is that I should have read these reviews before I hired this guy for my wedding. They sell you on a bill of goods and do not deliver. The DJ showed up looking like a slob with a vest that didn't even fit. Then he left his mic and stand at the ceremony site so we had to make sure to bring it back not to get charged for it. At the reception he botched about 3/4 of the bridal party names, not to mention my parents names. Then when my brother in law was going to make his speech the DJ informed us at that moment that the song that we picked wasn't working. Shouldn't that have been tested before he came to our event? And if you couldn't find him at his DJ booth he was outside bumming cigarettes off the guests. SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!! Along with other things that I just don't even remember at this point. Later I emailed the whole story to the "manager" and he was going to forward it to the owner to see if I could get some kind of refund. After multiple follow up phone calls that lasted a couple weeks I finally got a hold of the owner and he ended up trying to blame everything on me! What a dick. Honestly, he did a pretty good job Pros: -Prompt -Organized -Cost-effective -Professional -Knew the venue and set up appropriately. -Added up lights really contributed to the beauty of the venue. Honestly, they look a lot better than what he has on his website. -Ensured dance floor activity at all times -Enforced our no-play, must-play, and ending song lists. Cons: -Let a few songs run a little too long. -Could be a little mean to some of the other guests who tried to approach him. -Comes off as a little car salesy when he chats, and when he gets on the mic. -Wife says she feels like he's hard to work with. Being in the business world myself, I actually appreciated the straightforwardness, but I can see how his personality may rub some people the wrong way. Spinning light demonstrations, corny music, and...well, the best part was just as he was giving us the pitch about how we select all of our music, one of his djs interrupted to let Witz know that he has lost the list of music for the wedding he was about to leave for. The determination? That it doesn't matter and he will wing it. Glad we got to see that one personally...as if we hadn't already made up our minds. We hired DJ Guy when we met some of the dj's at a Bridal Expo. They had the biggest equipment at the expo and gave away free shiney bags. The package seemed like a good deal and came with a Free Video Montage. Picking the music selection on their website was easy. The final meeting was simple and they even suggested great music for the ceremony and the reception. The day of the wedding DJ Jeremy was on time and played all the music we requested. He kept the party going well and people dancing all night, which is key to a great party. All the songs we requested were played at the appropriate times. The slideshow was done well, and we received a copy of it at the end of the night. I am glad I didn't yelp DJ Guy before purchasing the package, as I would have probably been scared off! We could have just been extremely lucky to have everything go smoothly as planned, but based off of my experience I would have no problems recommending the company. It would have been a 5 star company if they responded to voicemails faster and the dj you were consulting with was the one that shows up on the wedding day. Neither of those two items bothered me, so overall all based on my experience I feel DJ Guy is a solid company. read more

Well, I hate to give bad reviews (and never do) but unfortunately, this case warrants it. Roy was supposed to DJ our wedding on April 7th, on May 31st he backed out claiming he had back surgery 2 months prior. We had met with him 6 weeks prior (2 weeks after spinal fusion surgery) and no mention of surgery or any issues walking/standing and he confirmed that day he himself would DJ our wedding. I emailed him stating that it was unprofessional to pull out a week before and if had major back surgery then he should have let us know as soon as possible that he it was possible he couldn't make it due to back surgery. His response was "I did explain to you in correspondence that we had only one spot left and weren't sure which DJ would serve your wedding" which is what he may have said over the phone but not when when we met (Note: Bad Excuse #1) We totally would've understood if he gave us notice but for the first mention to be when you're cancelling a week before the wedding is very unprofessional. He offered glow sticks and cake lighting as "compensation." As for the DJ himself. He was ok musically however we had 2 issues 1) No one could understand him 2) We specifically asked him over the phone if he knew how to direct the chorah (a very common jewish dance) and he said yes. Surprise, he didnt, and everyone was lost on the dance floor because it was an interfaith marriage. So these aren't the biggest deals, overall, the reception went well but it is annoying when you ask for something specific, someone agrees, and they can't do it. At this point I still would've given DJ GUY 3 stars but I emailed him to let him know about the issues with the DJ at the reception. Rather than apologize for the issues these were his responses: "I'm not sure why Joe was muffled, but I know that I will often have to make announcements multiple times if it's a packed house and space is tight in the barn due to sub-optimal acoustics." (Note: Bad excuse #2, everyone could hear the speeches just fine, it was only when the DJ was talking that no one could understand) As for the Chorah Dance, again rather than apologize for his "right-hand man of 15+ years" telling us he could do the chorah, this is what he wrote: "I also would not have taught this as we assume a substantial amount of people in the crowd already know how to do this dance as it leads directly into the inherently dangerous chair dance. It is not something we want to be involved with if it's the first time a crowd is doing something like this for obvious insurance reasons. " (Note: Bad Excuse #3.) Never have I ever heard that a DJ will refuse to direct the chorah because it leads to the chair dance. It's just ridiculous. Furthermore, during our meeting the chorah was scheduled into the timeline and he did NOT mention he wouldn't help with directing the chorah. Overall, there is no chance I would hire this company again for anything or would I recommend them to anyone. My husband and I were recently married at Marina Village. It was a beautiful day and it just kept getting better, the food was wonderful, the decorations were just how i pictured them, and our DJ really made the night special. My ceremony music was perfect and I heard it even has some of my family dancing down the isle when it was over. The reception was fabulous! From our introductions all the way til the last song. He played all my favorites. The money dance was also a big hit because of the songs he chose. My husband really had a great time and all the direction the DJ gave us throughout the night realy took a lot of the stress out of the night. We just had to sit back and enjoy the night. I told you all I would write a second review after my wedding 10/12/13. Roy from the DJGUY was great just as I expected. The ceremony was delayed about 45 minutes because my flower girl (3 year old daughter) came down with the flu about an hour before the ceremony start time. I really have to give a big thank you to all my vendors for being so wonderful with the time delay and crisis. The ceremony music was wonderful, the Mic/speakers/equipment was perfect, there were NO glitches during the ceremony. The Up lights were beautiful, the dry ice for the first dance was a huge hit and made it even more romantic! His choice of music was perfect! His personality and voice on the MIC was great..."MOST" people at our wedding from the Grooms side were older or fuddy-duds and wanted to sit and talk like it was a family reunion rather then dance and party. My side of course, the brides side tore the dance floor up! Literally, the dance floor was falling apart! haha. My advice to you as a potential bride/groom: You might pass up something wonderful, Roy is definitely worth checking out. read more

If you are going to use DJ Guy do yourself a favor, REQUEST JULIO! I've read all the bad reviews about this company on Yelp, and have to say that my story is the exact opposite. Julio was very professional and full of energy. I have no complaints about him. The only thing that went wrong was the mic did feedback once, but we were on a military base, so there's already a lot of interference... no biggie. Julio introduced everyone with the right song, spoke professorially to us and our guests, and was always on top of it. I'm glad I booked him for my wedding. ** DJ Guy did charge my card on something we 'talked' about. My wife and were thinking about booking an extra hour, but never said it was for sure. We then saw the charge on our CC and were puzzled, especially since it made another payment bounce. They refunded the money and the overdraft charge but still was a week long hassle with my bank. I photographed a wedding this past Saturday at the Darlington House and the Dj was awesome! Sometimes dj's at weddings can't keep people out on the dance floor, which was not a problem. I had my wedding this past Sept 8th 2012 Julio was are DJ he was really proffesional, on time, very presentable and from all my females single ladies he was very handsome too. He did an awsome job, I requested someone billingual and he was the fun, energetic, I felt the crod's vive he did geat from jumping from spanish music, to english and making it work give Julio big proops for making our big day happen just right. The only thing missing but it wasint somuch Julio's fault was we requested music and we wore in the middle of the mountains in Lakeside and he had no signal to play songs requested, he manged tho by putting others similar. DJ Guy was actually the first vendor I ever booked for our 7/19/14 wedding - before I even had a venue! I had won a free photo slideshow at the Bridal Bazaar shortly after my engagement, so I met with them to decide if I wanted to use it. My bridesmaids and I loved Julio, and knew he'd be perfect for my wedding, so I booked him! Unfortunately, as my wedding date grew closer (almost a year and a half later), it turned out that he had moved away. Thankfully, Roy, the owner of the company, booked another DJ he felt would be a good match for my fiance and me. I was super nervous about having a DJ I had never met with show up to our wedding, but it turned out that Roy was definitely right!!! Joe Abad was our DJ, and he did an absolutely incredible job!! I am so glad we ended up with someone who knew what he was doing. Everything was perfect!!! My only complaints have to do with the planning portion of our experience - first of all, the lady who calls you prior to your wedding never truly identifies herself - she says "Hello, this is DJ Guy!!" (awkward!!!) rather than "Hello, this is So-and-so from DJ Guy" ... she also originally called us a year earlier than she was supposed to... which made me concerned about what OTHER information was incorrect on our file. It was also awkward having no contact whatsoever with our actual DJ - we only spoke directly to Roy. Roy is extremely knowledgeable and was very helpful, but it was a little stressful up until the day of our wedding not knowing what to expect... again, thankfully, everything turned out perfectly, but it would have been comforting to have some level of direct contact with Joe. My only other complaint would be that although Roy was great at steering us away from planning something that might not work well (which we definitely encouraged and appreciated), it was upsetting that he did not seem to understand or respect the fact that I had chosen a song that was special to my father and me, just because it wasn't exactly your typical father-daughter dance song (sorry, "Butterfly Kisses" isn't our thing!) ... sure, it might not have been the easiest song to dance to, but it had special meaning to us (we danced to it when I was 2 yrs old before the first time he was away from me for an extended period). Unfortunately, it was VERY obvious that Roy thought I was making a HUGE mistake by choosing it. He continually tried to urge me to choose a different song, but I am glad I stuck with it. read more

We hired DJ Guy for our wedding in August 2010. A few hiccups during the planning process gets them 4-stars instead of 5, some of which were our fault. One important note is we were coming in from out-of-town, so our flexibility to meet and/or shop around was not great. I also wouldn't describe either of us as music "enthusiasts"... Here's the full review: Initial Meeting: Fantastic job! We met with Guy at his home. It was apparent immediately that their equipment was top-notch! They seemed well prepared to do lots of "extras" (slideshow, monogram, uplighting, etc), which we really weren't looking for. We wound up selecting the uplighting, and that wound up being a good choice. We also spent time going through the music catalog, felt it was extensive enough for us, discussed the type of group and wedding it would be and put together a pretty decent gameplan that day. We were told we'd get a chance to meet the DJ prior to the date once they found a good fit. We felt good about it and the price was competitive to others, so we booked 6 months prior. Final Consultation: About 4 weeks prior to the wedding, we received a call to do our final consult in San Diego on a Sunday afternoon. We had a last second change of plans, so I called Friday afternoon to reschedule. I didn't receive any call back by Sunday morning, so I called again and couldn't reschedule for that weekend - the time we'd be in SD before the event. We rescheduled as a phone consultation for that Tuesday. We walked through the final timeline of events, picked out the few "key" songs (first dance, cake cutting, entrance, etc). We weren't as well prepared for this as we probably should have been and said we may need a little more time to mix up the songs a bit - Chris didn't seem overly thrilled by this, but was open to it as long as we got our requests in 14 days prior (which wouldn't be a problem we said). Changes: The next day we sent a couple changes via e-mail, as well as submitted a full song request list that was "directional". We sent another e-mail with edits to the times based on some feedback from our location vendor. Finally, we wanted to know when we would meet with our DJ. Really this is the only point where DJ Guy let us down - they never responded to any of those e-mails confirming the changes. Looking back I think Chris told us to call with and not e-mail, but with all stuff going on we forgot. The lack of response caused some angst, and my bride started reading the reviews on Yelp (horrible) and got nervous about DJ Guy. I assured her other "wedding specific" sites had more favorable things to say (including the Yelp posts were by rival DJ companies), but at this point, she was in high alert. After about a week w/o hearing anything, we called to confirm our changes were received - they hadn't even seen them. My fiancee almost blew up! Kudos to Chris though ... he came through quickly with a personal call to her to make sure she was completely comfortable and that all of the changes would be no problem. He said they were still unsure who exactly the DJ would be (7 days out), but thought it would be him. Finally about 2 days prior we found out that Guy himself would be the DJ. Reception: Awesome! I can't say enough about the great job @ the actual event. He was on time and setup well before we started, and dressed in tuxedo shirt as promised (this was important to my new mother-in-law). During the dinner hour he played a great mix of classic Sinatra but infused Latin stuff (Luis Miguel and such) which hit a note for 1/2 the attendees. He did a great job of keeping on schedule, and even stopped by to make sure my bride and I had everything we needed. We got a little restless and were pushing to move the toasts up - he understood the flow of the event and noted out that not every table had rec'd their main course yet; better to wait another 5-10 minutes. This turned out to be right. We were worried he'd be too cheesy (he's a high-energy guy), but he never tried to become the star on our day. When the real dancing began, we were glad we got the up lighting - it really changed the room over for us. He stuck to our song request list and kept the DJ choices close to our original selections. The dance floor was packed the whole night and the energy was so high people chanted "ONE MORE SONG, ONE MORE SONG" at the end of the night. Conclusion: At the end of the day, you hire your DJ or band to bring energy and fun to your event and keep it flowing, not for their e-mail response time. DJ Guy did not disappoint in this regard, and I highly recommend them. Our nitpicks were definitely somewhat our fault not being ready for the meetings, but at the end it did create some stress for the bride the last two weeks in that could have been avoided. If you are little better prepared for your consultations than we were, I have a hard time believing you'll be disappointed... Thanks DJ Guy! read more

My wedding was on June 30, 2012 and it was at Humphries Half Moon Inn in San Diego, CA. Julio from DJ GUY was the BEST DJ EVER!! I am a wedding photographer and I have seen my share of DJs and I was so impressed by Julio. He arrived early, he had a great sound system (for both my ceremony and reception site), provided awesome lighting, created the best dance mixes, and kept the entire night organized and on schedule. He avoided all the cheesy songs I asked him not to play and he kept our 200 guests dancing throughout the entire night. I could not have been happier with our DJ. The only downside of DJ GUY is that you don't get to speak with your actual DJ throughout the entire wedding planning process. All the meetings/emails/phone calls are done through their owner named Chris. Chris asses your personalities during the meetings and then he assigns you a DJ. You don't know which DJ from their team will be at your wedding until only a few days prior. We met Julio at the Bridal Bizarre (he's the one who got us to book with DJ GUY) so throughout the process we already knew who we wanted and we insisted on only receiving Julio. The week prior to our wedding we were finally assured that Julio was our DJ. I'm sure the other DJs from their team are great, but if Julio's available I recommend that you do the same and insist on his services. He's the BEST! :) read more

He felt the vibe of the crowd and played music that he knew would keep the dance floor full and moving. We met with Guy twice before our wedding to make sure our vision coincided with his. His timing and music were on point and it was everything we discussed. Although my husband and I didn't utilize the website he provides for guests and the couple, he took the genres we gave him and made great song selections. He arrived on time and conducted business in a professional manner. I would recommend him to any couple looking for a wedding DJ. Side note: When reading reviews keep this in mind; how likely are you to write a positive review over a negative review? Another instance in which they should allow 0 or negative stars. We hired them for our wedding on the recommendation of a friend. The friend happened to be dating one of the guys from here and said that he had worked at the venue of our wedding (with her) frequently and was really great. We didn't find out that they were dating until we went to meet with him and he bragged about it somewhat unprofessionally. We thought he was alright though and liked that he was so willing to play whatever we wanted, but still offered tips about what might not work that well. Everything looked pretty good and we got together a list of over 300 songs for him to play since we figured he wouldn't have a few of them (even though he told us he could get anything as long as we had it to him in advance). So things looked good. Until about four days before the wedding when they called us and told us that he couldn't make it to our wedding. No apology or nothing. But don't worry, they would send a replacement that we did not meet with and who would not have enough time to meet with us before the wedding. But don't worry, everything will be taken care of. Trying not to stress about it, we took their word for it. I guess none of our request made it to this guy. Alright, let's be fair. He got the first dance song right, got the father-daughter dance song right, got the intro song right, but for some reason decided to not introduce my mother and father-in-law so they walked in looking awkward. He played literally about two of the songs that we requested throughout the entire reception. The whole reason we went with this company is because they were supposed to be really familiar with the boat (the Bahia Belle) that we were having our wedding on. Well, this guy didn't. While having the food upstairs we had no music for a really long time even though we had requested a grip of songs to play during that time and then intermittent periods of really loud feedback through the speakers that was uncomfortable for many of the guests. Many of them had their hands over there ears it was so loud. Really ruined the reception. And the music selection was horrible. He actually played songs that we asked them not to play. Ridiculous. Without question this was the absolute worst part of our wedding. We tried not to let it ruin our day, but the DJ is such an important part of the event. The owner at the time, Guy Novak, did my wedding a few years back. I'm not surprised to see all the negative comments, but I am surprised to see that he's still in business. My wedding was perfect, except for the services provided by DJ Guy. I can never forget how rude and unprofessional he was. I took a lot of time creating a playlist (at his request might I add) that he didn't end up playing, he wanted to change the sequence of events and entry music at the last second to fit his personal taste when I had already ironed out the details beforehand with one of his associates, made several sarcastic and unwelcome comments on the microphone throughout the reception and even yelled at me at one point when I refused to let him get his way. THINK TWICE BEFORE HIRING DJ Guy for your PARTY!!! They RUIN my Daughter's Debut!!! READ the other yelpers' review first before booking them. DON'T make the same mistake that I did. I met DJ Guy in Admiral Kidd's Bridal Fair and I thought I can trust them because the military base let them join the Bridal Fair, BUT that was my BIGGEST MISTAKE -- to assume that!!! I should have research more and read the review first before hiring and committing myself to them to be my daughter's DJ. When did a TV became a Projector to be used for a Video photomontage???!!! I paid for a PROJECTOR and what did I get a TV??!! Really, a TV that looks like 40 inches --- I have reserved one of the room in Admiral Kidd that can accommodate 150 guests and DJ Guy used a TV for a PROJECTOR!!! During the program for the video photomontage ALL of my guests were very confused of what was going on! There was NO SOUND, the TV was NOT connected to any sound speakers, the DJ didn't even bother on putting any effort in fixing it!!! My emcee has to be the one to figure it out and find the speaker in the TV and placed the microphone at the back of the TV's speaker, so my guests can hear the music during the photomontage was playing!!! Still how can you appreciate it when you can't even see the pictures with that small TV!!! Very UNPROFESSIONAL!!! And on top of that my Guests complained to me after the party that the DJ was RUDE to them when they tried to request for a music to be played! FALSE Promises and Advertisements! I trusted them but they didn't even care of what happened- the owner just keep giving me BAD EXCUSES for their BAD services. DON'T BELIEVE on the owner sales talk, He will lure you in and say Yes to EVERYTHING you want, then once you paid them off ..... EVERYTHING will be a NO!!!! DJ Guy can't even provide 2 microphones and when I asked Roy (the owner) --- "Ok, if you can't provide it then, is it ok to Bring my own and just connect it to your system?" --- and he gave me this long speech and alibis then SAY NO! He can't even follow and understand a simple instruction and request --- to have 1 picture of my daughter shown in the supposed to be projector screen (which became a TV) while it's not being used for the photo slide (video photomontage)--- surprise....surprise... It was also not done! I can't back out anymore because I paid them in full already! For the price that I paid DJ Guy to be our DJ in my daughter's party - It was a BIG WASTE of MONEY!!! Ok, where to begin? First of all, as I began walking down the aisle, the generator broke down. There would be no music at all for me to walk down the aisle to. The officiant couldn't be heard because their was no mic or speakers because of the generator. I sat in the middle of the aisle waiting for the music to start back up for 10 minutes!!! The DJ didn't even say anything to us! Finally our limo driver had to tell us that the music wasn't going to come back on. SHADY! Then at the reception, the music was back on but the DJ had no energy. You could tell that he knew he already ruined the wedding that he didn't care anymore. He introduced my bridesmaid with the wrong name. He played the wrong song for our toast. It was ridiculous!!!! But it doesn't end there. We knew that we deserved a partial refund because of this disaster so we called the owner, Guy Novak. Watch out for this balding car salesman. He tried to compensate us for $150. That's all he thought we deserved when we payed $1200!!! There was absolutely no ceremony music and I sat there for 10 minutes in the middle of the aisle! Talk about ruining the moment. Because he didn't see that we deserved at least $400 back (which is reasonable considering that there was no ceremony music, he lacked in energy, didn't even bring the playbook that we highlighted, and made multiple errors during our reception.), we had to take him to court. We served the papers to him and he did not return them...once again, wasting our time. Then we get something from Judge Mathis (the TV show) telling us that he wants to go on there! Ridiculous! Total car salesman that cannot be trusted. There are plenty of other better dj's with lower prices. Do not be conned by these guys! read more
