A great Indian restaurant. I am new(er) to Indian cuisine and this for sure was a really tasty experience. I got the lunch special that allowed a sample of things, I don't know if I can go back and get anything different, since it was such a great variety of items all so good! The service is pretty impeccable, they fill your water constantly, I guess if you're eating spicy and having to go through it more quickly than the norm, it's nice to always have a full cup! The place is also Very clean! I appreciate that. Our server was very helpful in suggesting spice levels, and I'm so glad I listened to her, she was right! My wife and I ordered the veggie kaati roll. The bread was unbelievably thick and the filling was extremely spicy even though we had requested it to be medium spicy. Really yummy! My mother and I came here for the first time today around 2:45pm. She has never had Indian food before so I convinced her to finally give it a try and she wasn't disappointed! We ordered samosas, chicken tikka and butter chicken to share. We received attentive service and our food came out in a timely manner. The dishes we ordered were hot, fresh and delicious. My mother who can be rather picky, enjoyed everything with no complaints. At the end we even shared a mango ice cream popsicle. All in all I say give this place a try it's worth the time. read more

We came here this evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised by the decor - elegant and upscale (compared to most Indian restaurants in the area). We ordered Tandoori Chicken, Goan Fish Curry, Lamb Dum Biriyani and Palak Paneer. All were good and the kids enjoyed it especially. While service is satisfactory quality is pathetically low; so much so that they are under the illusion of "more oil you use the tastier it gets". I had heard some iffy reviews about Diya, but it was perfect for date night with my boyfriend! We got a spinach dish that was really delicious, as well as Naan they brought to the table that tasted really wonderful. The atmosphere was quiet and comfortable, and the service was really nice - the waitstaff was kind and the owner came to talk to us, which made the experience even more comfortable. I was going to give this an average 3 stars but the food disagreed with me before I could finish my review. This is a new Indian restaurant in the old Famous Dave's building. You have to work to get to it since there is no entrance from Great Seneca without driving around KMART or from Clopper through their little office park. The front of the restaurant looks like fast food but the rest looks upscale. I had to maneuver around a fancy pot to get into my seat. The wait staff was good and attentive. The refilled and checked in frequently. I was surprised to not find a lunch buffet but found plenty of good menu options. I enjoyed the Naan but found a leafy after taste in the Palak Paneer. The rice was pretty standard. Unfortunately, the food disagreed with me so I probably won't be back to further explore the menu. read more

Just an update since we've ordered take-out from Diya several times now. Their food has been consistently good...we've ordered every single vegetarian dish, and a couple of the meat dishes. The only thing I haven't loved is the yellow lentils, which was on the soupy side (from what I've been told by friends who eat Indian often, that's normal, so it's just a preference thing). We were given a $50 gift certificate to try Diya Bistro. We called in a carryout order. When we arrived, we were told that the gift certificate couldn't be used for carryout. This was unethical, because the gift certificate did not have any term on it. It didn't say, "Dine-in only" or "No carryout." We still wanted to try the food, so we used cash. The food was below average and not worth the trip. We've had better service and quality food at Minerva and Bombay. Bad business practice and the food was below average. We live nearby so we know how to get into the place but don't let that discourage you, it is difficult but worth it! The manager golem was super attentive. I liked this place . Ambience was very classy and clean. Servers were very friendly . We went there during lunch on Friday afternoon . The restaurant was empty but it worked on our favor . Owner personally came to our table for recommendations. We tried their veg thali and cholle batura.. Thali didn't had lot of curries like hot bread and other restaurants have but it was still decent . Food was tasty .. Plus another Indian restaurant as a option to try. Do yourself a favor and go here IMMEDIATELY. The food was flavorful and fresh. We had the Spinach Chat, Pani Puri Gol Gappe, and a kati roll as an appetizer. Chilli chicken, hakka noodles, tandoori chicken, Garlic Naans, and some Thalis. All the food left us full, drooling, and wanting more. The only recommendation I would make for the restaurant is to put the Kati roll in a traditional parantha instead of a tortilla wrap. We stopped by Diya to try out the new restaurant. It was a mixed experience. I had the non-veg Thali, and was a tad disappointed that a goat dish had bones rather than chunks of meat. My husband devoured the lamb biryani, which wasn't to my taste. I enjoyed the butter chicken and lentils very much. The naan was cold, I love it when it's served warm. When we return, I'll try some of my Indian favorites, including Palaak Paneer. I was trying something new with the Thali. At the end of our evening, our server offered a complimentary mango drink after pointed out the bones in my small dish. Staff was very gracious. I attended a birthday party yesterday that was catered by Diya Bistro. I've had Indian food multiple times before this and Diya Bistro has the best Indian food I've ever tasted. 1/3/16: Diya has very authentic, good quality Indian food. My husband and I have eaten at virtually every Indian restaurant in Gaithersburg and this one is our new favorite. Here are a few reasons why. The quality. The variety (every kind of chaat you can think of. Lots of meat and veg dishes). The excellent service (I never had to think about my water glass. It was always full). The accommodation. It was clear to the staff that one of the dishes was a tad spicy for me. My waitress asked what she could do. I asked for some raita and she gave it to me for free. When she saw it was empty, she offered to refill it. My husband loves spicy; I can't handle it. We both ordered the yellow lentil dal: his was super spicy; mine super mild. It's clear they accommodate each person's tastes. The price point. We were told that the thali is a "mini buffet," meaning that you can keep reordering one of the dishes it comes with and naan, for free. The naan! Clearly baked on site in the restaurants tandoor oven. I can't adequately out into words how great this restaurant is. On top of everything mentioned above is the fact that it's right in the Kentlands - a 10 minute walk from my house! I love not having to drive to go out to eat! 1/11/16: went back for dinner a second time tonight. After seeing the other reviewers on Yelp recommend the butter chicken so highly, I tried it as part of my non-veg thali. It was AMAZING! I had seconds of that dish (the thalis are "mini-buffets": each item on it is unlimited). Also one of the dishes of the non-veg thali was a fried fish and I don't eat fried food. Stopped in here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I used to go to this building when it was Famous Dave's BBQ. They did a nice job with the remodel, nice atmosphere. The staff is new but very attentive and quick to take care of your needs. The owner was also very nice, going around the dining area to make sure the guests were being taken care of. I had the Lamb Roganjosh, my coworker had the Hakka Noodles with Chicken. Both were very good and well spiced (We both asked for spicy). The garlic Nann was good. The samosas where small but good flavor and crispy. I appreciate the fact that everything was fresh, they do not precook dishes and let them sit. Dessert was a small order of Golub Jamun and my friend had Falooda (Kind of a part frozen, part rose milk drink with tiny rice noodles) . I admit I had never tried a Falooda before, it is a bit different, but he definitely enjoyed it. This is my go-to place for lunch! $10 for an awesome vegetarian thali with unlimited refills. I always felt it was a bit unfair in most Indian restaurants to charge vegetarians and non-vegetarians the same for the standard menu with limited vegetarian options. I grew up in Pakistan and am very picky about my Indian food. Gotta say, the brunch buffet killed it. Excellent appetizers. Great variety of chutneys. The pani puris was firm enough to hold them all but thin enough to provide just the right level of crunch. The palak paneer was flavorful enough that I didn't even notice that it's not as spicy as I like it. And the lentils were like I'd never had before. Service was wonderfully pleasant. We tried three different dishes and all were exceptional. The garlic nan, while different from others I have enjoyed, wasn't my favorite. However, the butter chicken and the vindaloo easily made up for any reservations. The samosas, get the samosas. The pastry was rich and flakey and the filling was wonderfully spicy. The staff was courteous and offered helpful recommendations. They hadn't received their license for beer or wine as of our visit. I went to Diya Bistro after reading an article in the Kentlands paper, and was disappointed. I have had a lot of Indian food in my lifetime, and cook a lot of it at home. Maybe I had high expectations for Diya Bistro because I could eat Indian food 24/7. The interior of Diya Bistro is refreshing for a typical Indian restaurant. It is very modern and clean. I ordered the Lamb Rogan josh and counted 4 small pieces amidst a plethora of sauce. I wanted to use some bread to soak up the sauce, but the restaurant forgot to give me the naan. I also ordered the veggie samosas, which were incredibly small and were not fresh. Since they were small, the pastry to filling ratio is not perfect. The vegetable pakoras were also not fresh. They were rock hard. The individual sauces: tamarind, tumeric, and coriander were good but a little processed and sweet for my liking. The masala dosa was great. The potato filling was spicy and the pancake was fresh. The coconut chutney was not per my taste, but definitely fresh. Overall, I would say if I were to choose between Tandoori Nights and Diya Bistro, I would choose Tandoori Nights because it is a better bargain. You get bigger samosas and definitely more meat. I think with time Diya will be better, but they should work on their food instead of their interior. read more

As a new restaurant they still don't have they're liqueur license. They're menu isn't very developed and they don't have as many options as most Indian restaurants. Desserts are premade and not very good. They sit in an open fridge when you walk in. Not a fan. read more

First experience and it started bad. We saw their BOGO AD saying buy one and get one with equal or less price with a minimum purchase of $30.00 but when we called to place order, the restaurant attendant said, in rather disdainful way, "Nope, this ad is wrong and they will give second item equal to half the price only of the item we order" We ended up ordering family meal instead with two vegetarians items and one non-veg. We chose "Punjabi Rajma", "Malai Kofta" and "Kake Da Goat Meat". We found out that all items were cooked in a gravy overflowing with Tomatoes base curry..all tasted the same. We ended up throwing away 80% of the curry from each of the three preparations. Mutton pieces themselves were good, even Rajma were good but we had to really find them diving deep as they were far few in number relative to the bulk made up of, again want to hammer this point, the tomatoes curry:-). I am Punjabi and have eaten epic of Punjabi food at Amritsars, Ludhianas, Jalandhars but no where had to plunge deep into a curry preponderant with so much of tomatoes. Saving grace was 'mint' dahi and gulab jamun ...thank God they did not prepare them in tomatoes curry and they were good..hence I give them three stars...given COVID-19, I don't want people not eating there..they should try their different items which they may find good read more
