So far, I've only been here for lunch so the restaurant is quiet. The service is top notch when you come in, they are attentive and they remember you! A nice little touch. With regard to the lunch, great portions. Good flavors. Solid options. I have not had a single bad meal from this place and I plan on being a patron as long as I can. read more

One of the best authentic Indian food I have eaten in a while. Had chole bhature and sooji halwa and the food was to die for. Absolutely fantastic taste and awesome service by the restaurant. We also had paneer tikka along with dahi bhalle and it was simply mouth watering. Highly recommend it. read more

The restaurant has a pleasing interior and the service was friendly. This used to be a barbeque restaurant so it has some elements left that don't quite jive with the elegant Indian restaurant, such as antler chandeliers and tons of flat screen TVs playing football, but never mind. The food was mediocre in my opinion. The chef didn't pull off enough of a distinctive taste and it all kind of tasted rather middling. I know how hard it is to make distinctive Indian food (as I try and fail in my kitchen quite a lot) but I must be blunt. I had the vegetarian thali, nothing really stood out to me. The papad served was not crisp and I requested it be replaced. The achar (pickle) was wierd and house-made, but not properly zingy and tangy and spicy. I like the concept of the thali, but it ain't the best in the world at this spot. read more

Maybe a good place when you are dying of hunger and nobody else is open but after trying their family meal for Wednesday Lunch we won't be ordering again. We had Kadhi pakoda, dal makhani and kofta curry as our 3 veg sides that came with Rice and tava Roti, raita and Kheer for the dessert. Raita Had no cucumber or tomato!!! Tava Rotis were clearly stale. Same situation with kofta. Absolutely not a drop of gravy had soaked in any kofta the way it is supposed to be if koftas are made fresh and dropped in the gravy. Even rice was disappointing, although cooked quite well it surely was NOT Basmati. The kheer and dal makhani were good. But overall a very disappointing meal as a whole. read more

The food is good and the service is great. The person at the register was nice and polite. The only thing I did not care about was how oily the food was. I just hope they would hold back on the ghee/oil a little bit. read more

This place is so great. I am Indian born and raised and this biryiani is the BEST I've ever had. I don't even understand how it's so great. The paneer tika was also amazing. All of the food was so fire. And so fresh. Yes it's oily so don't eat here every day, but oh my GOD is it good. read more

A bit out of the way in the Kentlands. Great $10 lunch buffet with all you can eat naan regular and garlic. Comes toasted and there isn't another option. Butter chicken is a staple on the buffet and it does have a heavy tomato sauce flavor. Good mix of spicy and mild entrees with plenty of basmati rice and a chopped salad option. Two desserts come with the buffet that rotate daily. Good value, casual atmosphere and they serve drinks and brunch now- but they do have signs posted they will no longer be open on Mondays. read more

Yes, the tamarind martini was better than ever, a perfect balance that tasted like a spicy sugared tamarind candy. Yes, the thali was excellent (particularly the goat), but I'll be back for the biryani. This is nothing like the usual biryani that are a plate of rice pilaf, maybe dry, maybe not, with a few pieces of meat placed in two rows across the top. This biryani (chicken. next time we'll try the goat) was served in the small clay pot in which it was cooked in the tandoor. I was a little disconcerted when I opened the lid that had been sealed to the pot with dough that kept everything moist and I saw nothing but white rice, but not for long. I stirred it up a little, and low and behold there was so much stewy yuminess. Well, I've never had ANYTHING that tasted anything like it, or anything really more delicious. I'm looking forward to going back and having it again, an appetizer, sarson da saag, and one of those tamarind martinis. read more

I was in neighborhood and got hungry. I searched for Indian restaurant and found Diya close by. It turned out to be buffet. I tried pretty much everything. Food was just ok. Nan bread was as flat "Papadum". Chicken Tikka Masala and Paneer Makhani has same taste. It was my first time eating Chicken Tikka Masala with bell pepper. If chef was experimenting, I suggest don't do that. It killed the dish. Dal and Gajar Halwa were tasty. Service was good. read more

I've been meaning to try Diya since they've opened and since there is a Groupon for it now, I thought it was the perfect time. We arrived around 6pm on a Sunday for dinner and the place was relatively empty for the size of the restaurant. We decided to order the butter chicken (which is my favorite and go to dish any time I'm eating Indian food) and the lamb roganjosh. To my surprise, I enjoyed the lamb dish a lot more than the butter chicken. It had a spice kick to it whereas the butter chicken was not spicy at all and tasted a lot more tomato-y compared to butter chicken I've had in the past. I definitely have had better around this area. But the chicken and the lamb were both soft and easy to eat. Each dish came with rice and a huge piece of buttered naan. We were stuffed by the end of the meal. All in all, the food was nothing to rave about. It was good but nothing more, nothing less. The service was excellent and parking is plentiful. read more

I ordered from this place via Uber Eats on a weekday. They were one of few spots still open passed 9pm, therefore I decided to try this place out. I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Butter chicken and garlic naan. The chicken tikka was well marinated and came with some house spices. The butter chicken tasted a little different to other butter chickens I tasted before. I don't want to say it was bad, it just tasted like it had more tomato sauce in it, but it was still enjoyable with the Garlic naan I ordered. read more

Absolutely Disgusting...... Biryani literally smelled, chicken was inedible, oh and literally all the naans were pretty much burned as in charred....20 degree weather and the heat is not working and finally the soda is 70% Seltzer ....... Oh almost forgot with reservations for about 20 people it took them over an hour to setup and cook cause I'm assuming they didn't prep........ How does this place even exist I must admit the rush kabob for apps were good and the Gajar ka halwa (Carrot Halwa) was awesome, if you stick to these items you'll have a great dinner with nothing but water to wash it down with read more

I stopped in with my boyfriend around 3pm on a saturday for a late lunch, and the restaurant was empty except for another patron. We were seated right away, and decided to order off menu rather than going for the buffet. We got the raj kachori for our appetizer, which was served cold and was good, although not quite what I was expecting from the menu description. We got a diet coke to share, and it was a bit flat, but that wasn't a big deal. I got the veggie thali and he got the non-veg thali, and we both enjoyed everything that included. The spinach paneer and chickpea dish were spiced very differently from how i've had the dish before - they had a lighter taste. The chickpeas seemed to have some kind of warming spices, like cinnamon or nutmeg. But the lentil dal was by far the best. Overall, the meal was good. The naan had a generous amount of butter, as did the rice, and there wasn't a bad dish among anything we had. The only thing about the meal that left a bad taste in our mouths at the end was the fact that we asked for the rest of our meal to be boxed up for us to take home (I would assume that this is standard practice), and it never came. We paid, signed the bill, and.. Never got the rest of our food in a to go box. I have no idea what happened, but we weren't happy to walk out without the rest of our meal. read more

I have to say this was pretty good!! Maybe even exceeded my expectations! Just a little hidden away if you didn't know it was there... Gps! The decor is a little weird. Antler light fixtures?? Ok I can overlook this but really.... We were promptly seated and given menus. Good variety so may it had to choose. Got the butter chicken and spinach tofu dish. The butter chicken was well cooked. Creamy. And tasty! And there is a little kick... The spinach tofu(it has another name on the menu...) is really good. Firm tofu and well spiced spinach. It's like creamed spinach. Loved it. Each entree comes with rice and naan. Naan was very good. Left more than full... So very content. I would definitely return to try more dishes. :) read more

New Indian food place in Kentlands (kinda sits by itself near condos behind shopping center) which I think used to be Famous Daves, maybe? Anyways, I thought hey a place in Kentlands that is NOT the overpriced Tandoori Nights and equal to Bukhara in Traville for taste and quality. Initially, you walk in and it's pretty big. Nicely decorated and the staff are willing to please and nice. We sat in booth in the back and I couldn't help notice the antler lights in the ceiling. Cool, I guess but not sure if that was left over from last restaurant or not. Still overall, very nice looking setup. Looking at the menu, everything looked really good. And why not? My friend googled one of the dishes and the pic they used on the menu came up but on another site. So they kinda"lifted" the pic and borrowed it for their stuff. Eh, kinda shady but I'll let it pass if the food was good. ;) We decided to order bunch of different food so we can share and taste everything. So we ordered the mini samosas, Goat Korma, Non Veggie Thali, Lahori Fish, Hakka Noodles, and Chicken Tikki (6 pieces). Prices were a lot more reasonable than Tandoori Nights and comparable to Hot Breads. Here's my breakdown on what we ordered below: Samosas - served 4 mini samosas. These were pretty good, but bite size samosas means there's a lot less filling and the filling to fried outside ratio was off. Not enough filling. Overall, taste was good but shouldn't be mini size. Non Veggie Thali - sampling of 2 non veggie dishes and 1 veggie dish. Keep in mind this is preselected so you need to ask them what the dishes are. We had some lamb, buttered chicken, some chick peas dish, a sweet dessert, rice and naan bread. Chicken was dry, good flavor but nothing too special. Lamb was also ok. The theme so far is that everything is not bad or great, just ok. Lahori Fish - they were raving that the battered fish is the favorite item and people love it. Yes, they were right. So I lied, this dish was great actually! A big battered Indian style fish and chip without the chip! Must order if you're here. Hakka Noodles - they have a small Indo Chinese section that we wanted to try, so why not the Hakka Noodles? Noodles were super soft and mushy and the taste was pretty decent. Was expecting better but was again...just ok. Chicken Tikka - 6-7 pieces of small chicken for $8. Definitely not worth it, unless it was amazing! And yet you know what I'm gonna say, all together now, "just ok!" So that wraps up this episode of Indian eats. What did we learn? Come here if you want food that's not great, not bad, but....JUST OK! read more

Excellent Indian food. So tasty! Chicken Vindaloo was excellent - spicy, both flavorful and hot, and perfectly seasoned. And how, oh how, do you make just plain rice so dang delicious?!?? Wow. So great. The garlic naan wasn't what I was expecting, but I still used all of it to wipe up every drop of the sauce. The service was wonderful. Even though they forgot to ask for our drink order, they made up for it in every other way. Quick, friendly, and respectful. Great place! We came with a family of 4 to have dinner because we were tired of eating at home. I got the non veg Tali, which had butter chicken, lamb masala, kheer, rice, raita, papper and naan. Portions were good and were full of flavor! My parents got the Chicken Katti roll and the veg Tali, the chicken Katti roll was spicy and tasted amazing with all the fillings. The veg Tali was great! My sister got the plain dosa, which was nice and crispy with a perfectly seasoned sambar on the side with coconut chutney. We all shared the appatizers samosa, paneer pakora, pani puri and aloo tiki, they were all great! Overall I think this is a great restaurant and everyone is doing a great job! read more

We ordered a vegetarian thali for to go. The food is one of the worst we have had in ages. Can't believe such badly tasting food can even be served in restaurants. We ordered malai kofta (and kofta looked days old!) and paneer butter Masala (with some terrible tasting tomato paste) along with naans (supposedly butter naans but hard as rock). Needless to say it wasn't edible and we had to throw them all away. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we went to pick it up and I am honestly not sure how they're still in business. read more

Nice Indian restaurant with excellent prices and delicious meals. - FOOD: Very tasty food for really great prices (I can't emphasize this enough). I had the vegetarian thali, which came with palak paneer, dal makhani, a vegetable dish, raita, naan, rice, and kheer - all that for only $10. It was very filling, but if you aren't satiated you can get a refill for $2 (also a great deal). My dining companions had the lamb roganjosh and the meat thali, which they likewise found to be delicious, filling, and a good deal (the lamb also came with rice and naan). - FOR THE VEGGIES: Like many Indian restaurants, there are plenty of options for vegetarians. Aside from the thali, there's dal makhani, tadka dal, palak paneer, paneer makhani, and several vegetable dishes. - SERVICE: The service was very quick and friendly, and we were seated and served very soon after arriving and ordering. - ATMOSPHERE: It was relatively quiet when we dined here, and the decor is classy and clean. read more

Maybe THE worst Indian food I've ever tried. Diya is located right behind our building so we thought we would order take out from there and give it a try since it's so convenient. We ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Biryani. The lamb vindaloo was super greasy and lacked any flavor, there was barely any lamb in there...all sauce. The chicken biryani didn't even look like biryani. So tasteless, it looked like they just mixed plain chicken and rice together. I could not taste nor see any of the spices that I would usually find mixed into the dish. I'm really sad that the closest restaurant to us is such a disappointment. read more

I can imagine that this would be a nice space to host a party - they are a bit secluded from the rest of kentlands and have a separate room available for parties. Their menu includes a variety of chaat (snacky?) options which is also fun at a party. The problem is that I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality of the food here. It was all fine, but a bit bland. With the exception of the fresh, hot naan, nothing else really stood out. My favorite of all the dishes we tried during the lunch buffet was the goat curry. But, I found myself chomping down green chilies with my meal to increase the heat/flavor of the dishes (which is not something I generally do a lot of of). Glad to have finally tried it, not sure I will return unless I have to. read more

Stopped here on the way home. Turned out to be great food joint. The decor looked like a high end dinning restaurant however the prices were decent. Visited Diya Bistro last month with a friend on Sunday night for dinner. We live in Germantown where there are 3 spots to pick from within a 5 mile radius from each other but we wanted to try a new spot. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived with a family of 3 already dining. My friend and I both ordered the non-veg thali and was confused by the menu. We thought we could pick our dishes for the thali since it didn't specify that it was a preset dish. But the element of surprise was not a terrible thing. Our non-veg thai came with butter chicken, lentils, goat curry, rice, naan, yogurt sauce and sweet cheese dessert. I'm happy my friend and I tried this place out, but I would stick to other Indian food options that are closer to home. read more

Diya Bistro is a hidden away little gem that could be a great place. For 7pm on a Tuesday, it wasn't a bad crowd and there were plenty of actual Indian people eating Indian food. Always a good sign. The servers who seemed to be all family were very attentive and gave us water right away. At first I was served hot water, which was really weird. But another server noticed when he came to check on me and quickly switched it out. My dinner partner was a little late and as soon as he got there, the same guy who gave us hot water rushed us through ordering food. We both order the non-veg thali because we had no time to look at the menu. When my food arrived, I finally remembered to ask what the different entrees were and very quickly the server told me in a muffled, thicker Indian accent what they were and left. So I think I had chicken vindaloo, and God knows what else, but they were good. The food wasn't good enough that I'll come back. I'd rather go to Minerva's read more

I love Indian food and especially love to wear the traditional outfit which I wear when I go to Indian restaurants. Took Mom for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day. Staff were courteous but the service was not up to par. Not once our waitress came to check on us during our whole meal. Also the water was not replenished and we waited a while when asked for it. My friend took me to Diya Bistro located in Ashburn for lunch. Once I entered I was greeted by smiling faces. I am a true foodie and I can say with certainty that service after COVID has declined dramatically in many restaurants. I felt welcomed at Diya's and the service was impeccable. Now for the food....what can I say other than my tummy was happy! I ordered the Sarson Ka Saag, Chole Bhature, and Papri Chaat. Let me start with the Sarson Ka Saag garnished with fresh ginger that was creamy, saucy, and simply addictive. I even took one order home and my mom, who is the pickiest Indian lady, loved it! The chole had the right amount of spices and the consistency of the curry was perfect! The bhature was made bite size so it stayed fresh, soft, and fluffy which is quite different in other Indian restaurants that serve one big size of bread and once you break it, it loses its texture. The icing on the cake was the Papri Chaat, oh my, that was perfect! The papri was nice, thin, and crispy which stayed the same even in the yogurt and chutneys! I can go on with my descriptive feelings about the food here but to summarize....the food is amazing! I have passed the word to my friends, colleagues, and family! read more

This restaurant has a really awkward location behind an apartment complex and separated from the rest of Kentlands with no real street presence. Its not really a surprise that it was fairly empty at dinner since I don't think people know it exists. The interior is rather nondescript, but the service was attentive throughout. As for the food, it was simply ok. We both opted for a tahli dish, which is different every day. Nothing was bad, but nothing was special either, and there a lot of other real good Indian restaurants available in the area. There was nothing that set Diya apart or above most of the others. I doubt I would return simply because there are so many other options. read more

Was not a fan. Ordered via Uber Eats on a weekend from their dinner menu. The samosas were bite sized and reminded me of the ones you buy from the frozen section of Trader Joe's. Tasty enough, but not restaurant quality. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants, and never received bite size samosas. The paneer in tomato sauce barely had any flavor. The rice was okay. The naan was not fresh. It tasted like it was made days before, frozen, and then reheated. Very disappointed! read more
