Based on the name, one may think that you must create your own drink from scratch, but that is not the case. In fact, this place actually has a large number of featured drinks and a well-rounded menu. They allow customers to create a DIY Custom Fruit Tea or DIY Custom Lemonade, but those were the only true DIY items I saw. + MANGO MATCHA FRESH MILK ($6.25 + $0.75 boba): Most of the time, I will order a signature drink or one that is labeled "recommended" on the menu. While this one doesn't fall under either category, I still decided to try it and am so glad I did! I customized it with zero sugar and less ice. The mango sauce drizzled on the sides of the cup added the perfect sweetness and tasted like the natural ripe fruit. After stirring it all up, the matcha was somewhat masked, but the drink was delicious, reminding me of a mango ice cream. The boba was cooked perfectly and had the ideal bounce. + WHITE PEACH OOLONG FRESH MILK ($6.25): I've read different opinions about this drink, but I personally enjoyed it! At 25% sweetness and light ice, I found this refreshing and reminiscent of peaches and cream. Neither the oolong nor the peach flavors were super prominent, but I was able to detect the slight bitterness of the tea and the subtle notes of peach. The drink just seemed heavy-handed with the milk, so it could have been more balanced. My companion ordered the LYCHEE FRUIT GREEN TEA. The menu states this includes lychee syrup and lychee fruit which we interpreted to mean lychee bits, but it turned out to be two whole lychees. She ordered it at zero sweetness, but she said 25% would probably have been ideal since the boba itself is unsweetened. Pricing is reasonable and on par with other boba shops. During both of my visits here, the cashier was friendly and very knowledgeable about the drinks. For example, we asked what was in Harmony's Lava Lamp and she was able to recall all the ingredients on the spot. Once we ordered, our drinks were prepared quickly and we were on our way. If you're seeking a snack with your tea, they have both sweet and salty options including Spam musubis, mochi donuts, chicken karaage, bubble waffles and more. I tried their mango sago drink. I asked for it to be at 25% sweetness, but it ended up tasting pretty watery. Didn't come with fresh mango like in the photo, but the frozen mango chunks were kind of hard to chew. I also didn't love the texture with the blended ice and the sago -- crunchy and chewy at the same time. Couldn't taste any coconut either. My friends got some macarons, and they said they tasted almost contaminated like with some cleaning agent. We came here during a cupsleeve event and this business did a great job making sure the event smoothly for those who wanted to order. First, they even made two drinks for the event which were tasty and gorgeous. It was a bit rocky at first as the event started but after going through the flow, they were able to figure out to ensure customers got a receipt to know what number they were when they called out order numbers. They did have a bunch of musubi out but there was one left by the time I left as I was still inside to check out the artists' booth that were set up inside. The store is on the smaller side so just be aware! The space looked clean and organized. The staff here were friendly and professional. I have been a customer here for years. Staff is always kind, drinks, and food are amazing. I have never had a bad experience here. Every time I visit staff is so friendly and drinks are tasty, this place rocks! My favorite time to come is on the weekends when they sell mochi donuts!!! This was my first time back to DIY Tea Lab in Newcastle since Covid. They've updated their menu and also have a special coconut series going on this summer. New items include: Sea Salt Ube, Mango Sago, Roasted Black Sesame Milk Tea, Vietnamese Coconut Coffee, and others. You can also customize fruit and green teas, but not milk teas. As far as I know, they no longer do the chemistry tube kits; they instead make the drink for you behind the counter You order via kiosk and so there's no one taking your order. This past visit I ordered the ROASTED BLACK SESAME MILK TEA (+$5.95) with 25% sweetness, no ice, and boba (+$0.75). My brother ordered the WHITE PEACH OOLONG MILK TEA (+$5.95) with 50% sweetness and light ice. There was only a short line when we arrived and so we got our orders within 5-10 minutes after ordering. The ROASTED BLACK SESAME MILK TEA was decent and had okay black sesame taste. It was basically your regular black milk tea with some black sesame powder 25% sweetness was very accurate for this drink as it was only slightly sweet. It tasted like the black sesame milk tea they serve at Bobae. The tapioca pearls were nice and chewy and weren't overly cooked. I'd give this drink a 3.5/5. The PEACH OOLONG MILK TEA was honestly a huge miss and probably the worst drink I've gotten from them. I don't like oolong to begin with, but this drink was extremely bitter and had just a little bit of artificial peach flavor. The milk didn't cut any of the bitterness and I don't think upping the sugar level would've helped much. I'd give this drink a 1/5. The interior is clean and there's limited indoor seating. You order through the kiosk, and the drinks have options for sugar levels, ice, etc. You have to select these options so if you don't know, what's the level is in a standard drink, it can throw ya off. I was happy to see that the toy drive to benefit children was a success. Once said that, this tea shop is definitely a place that I could become a regular. They have so many tea flavors and variety of donuts that I'm planing to go back and try them all. Most of them have either a green tea or black tea basis, but they also have fruity teas. Unfortunately, they were also out of crystal boba that day, so I got regular boba instead, still good, just a little sweeter. My husband got his standard ruby black tea with boba, 50% sweet and we also got lychee green tea, taro lover milk tea, thai ice tea for the rest of the family. I've tried a few of their sparkling drink series during the summer, it very refreshing & bubbly. We have also tried their bubble waffle, its curved and a little more crispy than other bubble waffle varieties, they offer a few different flavors as well. I used to also get their ube milk tea, but I think that may be seasonal since sometimes I don't see it online on the grub hub menu. DIY Tea Lab is hands down one of my favorite drink places in the area. The employees are super nice and try their best to make your drink as you like it and get it to you quick. Something to note is that their teas are mediocre, so if you're looking for a strong milk tea, this might not be the place for you. However, their matcha and vietnamese coffee are superb! Personally, I really enjoy their strawberry matcha and vietnamese coffee (with sea salt crema). Matcha is just the right amount of sweetness and flavor, not bland or super sugary. Seating area is relatively small, so more of a to go place. Overall, definitely recommend - you won't regret it! read more

This location is located in Newcastle, about a 20-minute drive from Downtown Bellevue. They are offering online-ordering and pick-up during this COVID-19 pandemic. Stopped by on a VERY busy weekend when they were offering BOGO along with their Kirkland location. Of course it doesn't help that it happened to be the hottest day this year as well. The online wait time for drinks was 1 hour (normally yikes, but not their fault as they were swamped). The text notification system was nice to have updates at least. There are a lot of drink varieties which seem appealing. I liked the fresh tea for the Mango Creama, but the crema part wasn't as impressive compared to other places (wished it was thicker and more salty). The Sam's Strawberry Fresh Milk wasn't bad, I think I just had a different expectation besides basic milk + strawberry flavor.
