We came here during a cupsleeve event and this business did a great job making sure the event smoothly for those who wanted to order. First, they even made two drinks for the event which were tasty and gorgeous. It was a bit rocky at first as the event started but after going through the flow, they were able to figure out to ensure customers got a receipt to know what number they were when they called out order numbers. They did have a bunch of musubi out but there was one left by the time I left as I was still inside to check out the artists' booth that were set up inside. The store is on the smaller side so just be aware! The space looked clean and organized. The staff here were friendly and professional. They are also dog friendly as I emailed them and they emailed back that well-behaved and leashed dogs were welcome.
Pretty good boba spot. Not mind blowing good, but good enough to go again. Vietnamse Coffee milk boba - 4/5. I wish it would be stronger like vietnamese coffee; boba had great texture. Chicken Kaarage- 3.5/5 Not the crunchy chicken popcorn type. I asked for extra spicy and they delivered; which is nice. But overall; its like a chicken nugget. Not sure if they make from scratch. The place itself is pretty chill; plenty of space to sit.
Good place to get boba! Lots of unique drinks that are sweet! I recommend and would come back!
Lots of parking out front. Cute store. Some tables to sit and chat. You can order on their ipad. Pictures with their drinks, which is nice. I got the passionfruit green tea. Even with 50%, it was still pretty sweet. I would recommend getting 25%!!
I have been a customer here for years. Staff is always kind, drinks, and food are amazing. I have never had a bad experience here. Every time I visit staff is so friendly and drinks are tasty, this place rocks! My favorite time to come is on the weekends when they sell mochi donuts!!! They have the best Ube mochi donut I have ever had tbh. My favorite go to drink is the sea salt Ube milk tea with boba! So bomb :) Limited table seating inside so I usually take to go. This will always be one of my favorite places to get boba and a mochi donut. I highly recommend DIY Tea Lab Newcastle location!
This was my first time back to DIY Tea Lab in Newcastle since Covid. They've updated their menu and also have a special coconut series going on this summer. New items include: Sea Salt Ube, Mango Sago, Roasted Black Sesame Milk Tea, Vietnamese Coconut Coffee, and others. You can also customize fruit and green teas, but not milk teas. As far as I know, they no longer do the chemistry tube kits; they instead make the drink for you behind the counter You order via kiosk and so there's no one taking your order. This past visit I ordered the ROASTED BLACK SESAME MILK TEA (+$5.95) with 25% sweetness, no ice, and boba (+$0.75). My brother ordered the WHITE PEACH OOLONG MILK TEA (+$5.95) with 50% sweetness and light ice. There was only a short line when we arrived and so we got our orders within 5-10 minutes after ordering. The ROASTED BLACK SESAME MILK TEA was decent and had okay black sesame taste. It was basically your regular black milk tea with some black sesame powder 25% sweetness was very accurate for this drink as it was only slightly sweet. It tasted like the black sesame milk tea they serve at Bobae. The tapioca pearls were nice and chewy and weren't overly cooked. I'd give this drink a 3.5/5. The PEACH OOLONG MILK TEA was honestly a huge miss and probably the worst drink I've gotten from them. I don't like oolong to begin with, but this drink was extremely bitter and had just a little bit of artificial peach flavor. The milk didn't cut any of the bitterness and I don't think upping the sugar level would've helped much. I'd give this drink a 1/5. The interior is clean and there's limited indoor seating. Bathroom is clean too. Overall, 3/5 for drinks, 4/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere.
I ordered the peach oolong milk tea with boba with 25% sugar. I like it! I'd come back to check out their other drinks on the menu. Service was fast even tho there was a long line. There is some seating inside!
After hiking we stopped in for a Thai Ice Tea. In addition to having a wide variety of drinks, they also sell mochi donuts - YUM! One very cool thing was they have a sign with all their drinks on a window facing the pathway so basically see the menu without entering the store. I appreciate that. You order through the kiosk, and the drinks have options for sugar levels, ice, etc. You have to select these options so if you don't know, what's the level is in a standard drink, it can throw ya off. We ordered Thai iced teas and mochi donut. The mochi doughnut was so good. The donuts are supplied by milkvue. The Thai Ice teas were ok. I don't think I'd order that again, but I definitely would like to try other items on the menu.
Delicious and refreshing! It's great that you can customize your drink from sweetness to ice level and they have so many options! Friendly staff and lots of parking right out front.
It's been a while since I been back here and it was still pretty good. The guy who helped me was very nice and knowledgeable. It's a small cute place and has some seatings. There's definitely parking so you don't have to worry. I got the strawberry fresh milk with less sugar and less ice and they were able to put it in 2 small cup rather than one big ones so my two kids can have their own. Overall, it's a good place for drinks, read more

Based on the name, one may think that you must create your own drink from scratch, but that is not the case. In fact, this place actually has a large number of featured drinks and a well-rounded menu. They allow customers to create a DIY Custom Fruit Tea or DIY Custom Lemonade, but those were the only true DIY items I saw. + MANGO MATCHA FRESH MILK ($6.25 + $0.75 boba): Most of the time, I will order a signature drink or one that is labeled "recommended" on the menu. While this one doesn't fall under either category, I still decided to try it and am so glad I did! I customized it with zero sugar and less ice. The mango sauce drizzled on the sides of the cup added the perfect sweetness and tasted like the natural ripe fruit. After stirring it all up, the matcha was somewhat masked, but the drink was delicious, reminding me of a mango ice cream. The boba was cooked perfectly and had the ideal bounce. + WHITE PEACH OOLONG FRESH MILK ($6.25): I've read different opinions about this drink, but I personally enjoyed it! At 25% sweetness and light ice, I found this refreshing and reminiscent of peaches and cream. Neither the oolong nor the peach flavors were super prominent, but I was able to detect the slight bitterness of the tea and the subtle notes of peach. The drink just seemed heavy-handed with the milk, so it could have been more balanced. My companion ordered the LYCHEE FRUIT GREEN TEA. The menu states this includes lychee syrup and lychee fruit which we interpreted to mean lychee bits, but it turned out to be two whole lychees. She ordered it at zero sweetness, but she said 25% would probably have been ideal since the boba itself is unsweetened. Pricing is reasonable and on par with other boba shops. During both of my visits here, the cashier was friendly and very knowledgeable about the drinks. For example, we asked what was in Harmony's Lava Lamp and she was able to recall all the ingredients on the spot. Once we ordered, our drinks were prepared quickly and we were on our way. If you're seeking a snack with your tea, they have both sweet and salty options including Spam musubis, mochi donuts, chicken karaage, bubble waffles and more. I'd return again the next time I'm in the area! read more

You better believe I'm a regular here. I've gotten many drinks and they've always been good, but my two favorites are the Mango Passionfruit Tea with mango popping boba and the Brown Sugar Fresh Milk with tapioca boba (both 75% sweet). Also frequently get the spam masubi - so good! Staff are always friendly and my boba comes out so fast every time. A few tables to sit at. So grateful that they're in Newcastle! read more

My first time in a DYI Tea Lab and the experience was favorable, especially during this time of the year when caring and giving to others is so important. I was happy to see that the toy drive to benefit children was a success. Once said that, this tea shop is definitely a place that I could become a regular. They have so many tea flavors and variety of donuts that I'm planing to go back and try them all. Most of them have either a green tea or black tea basis, but they also have fruity teas. The best part is that you can add boba (tapioca) They had donuts: uva (grape), churro, chocolate glazed and Christmas glazed. The flavors vary each season. I tried churro flavor and it was just perfect. PS; they have tables to enjoy tea there and clean restrooms read more

Really consistent boba and the occasional spam musubi will greet you as you walk into DIY Tea Lab. They have a large variety of customizations and tea flavors that you can choose from. Their base milk tea boba is good, as well as their taro offerings. I like to keep my sugar at 30% or lower and the tea flavor is still excellent. Definitely the way I like to order my boba! read more

DIY tea lab is one of our favorite local boba tea shops! They have a large variety of drinks and sometimes they feature desserts like ube Mochi crinkle cookies, bubble waffle and Mochi donuts! They also have savory snacks like spam musubi. The owner is also very nice to us whenever we run into him during our visits. Excellent customer service and strive for consistency is what lead to me to give DIY tea lab 5 stars! Whenever we visit its always nice & clean and we are welcomed by the staff. In our most recent visit, the store was decorated for the holidays and they were actually participating in a toy drive that goes through Christmas. Anyone who brings in a toy to donate can received a free boba drink in exchange! How cool is that?! I didn't know about this since I attended for a yelp elite event, otherwise I would of brought more toys. I ended up purchasing 4 additional drinks and I got 1 for free with the toy exchange. We also got 4 mochi donuts to share with the family! They ran out of ube that day, which was one of my favorites, but instead we got 2 churros, 1 vanilla and 1 chocolate mochi donuts from Milkvue. I would say the frosted mochi donuts are definitely sweeter than the sugared / churro style, but all very yummy & chewy. The drinks were loved by my entire family. My all time favorite is the white peach oolong milk tea, 25% sweet with crystal boba. Unfortunately, they were also out of crystal boba that day, so I got regular boba instead, still good, just a little sweeter. My husband got his standard ruby black tea with boba, 50% sweet and we also got lychee green tea, taro lover milk tea, thai ice tea for the rest of the family. I've tried a few of their sparkling drink series during the summer, it very refreshing & bubbly. We have also tried their bubble waffle, its curved and a little more crispy than other bubble waffle varieties, they offer a few different flavors as well. I used to also get their ube milk tea, but I think that may be seasonal since sometimes I don't see it online on the grub hub menu. Overall, we love DIY and its the closest, most consistent boba place near our house. We love how they put on awesome community events during the holidays and we will be back soon! read more

Really neat and trendy boba shop! When you first walk in it is not immediately obvious that you are supposed to place your own order on the iPad, self-checkout style. It is easy to order and customize your drinks. Once I did that my order came out swiftly and with great photo aesthetics! Really tasty and they also have the popping boba! I added mango popping boba to my Life is Peachy tea. Overall 4 stars because the price is a little steep, comparable to Happy Lemon. But I will go again for posting to the 'gram hahah read more

I got the Classic Ruby Black Milk Tea and it did not disappoint. Strong tea flavor.. perfect blend of milk, tea and sweetness with perfectly cooked chewy boba. We enjoyed it so much, we got another round the very next day of the same exact drink! Yay! read more
DIY Tea Lab, like its namesake, offers a variety of unique drink combinations. For the fruit teas, I would recommend stirring profusely or giving the cup a few swirls as the syrup is stuck on the bottom. For $5, their drinks include a free topping, which is not the case for other bubble tea places that charge extra. For every drink, you can adjust the sugar and ice levels. I would revisit to try a milk tea or smoothie, since I wasn't a huge fan of the fruit teas. Along with drinks, DIY Tea Lab also offers food items like bubble waffles, popcorn chicken, cookies, and brownies. The cups are tall and durable with a connected covering for the straw opening. The design isn't something I'm used to seeing, but makes it look very DIY and fits the branding. I also like that they offer kid-size drinks, which you don't see very often! This location is located in Newcastle, about a 20-minute drive from Downtown Bellevue. They are offering online-ordering and pick-up during this COVID-19 pandemic. It is wonderful to see that they're selling fresh flower bouquets from local farmers and supporting them during this time. read more
Stopped by on a VERY busy weekend when they were offering BOGO along with their Kirkland location. Of course it doesn't help that it happened to be the hottest day this year as well. The online wait time for drinks was 1 hour (normally yikes, but not their fault as they were swamped). The text notification system was nice to have updates at least. There are a lot of drink varieties which seem appealing. I liked the fresh tea for the Mango Creama, but the crema part wasn't as impressive compared to other places (wished it was thicker and more salty). The Sam's Strawberry Fresh Milk wasn't bad, I think I just had a different expectation besides basic milk + strawberry flavor. I think I'll just stick to their popular drinks section when I give them another shot next time. read more
Perhaps I didn't get the true DIY Tea Lab experience because of COVID and all of the safety precautions taking place but I was impressed with the concept. With that said, the drink was a little lackluster for my taste. I wanted something refreshing so I decided on a signature fruit tea with boba. While I really enjoyed the texture of the boba (nice and chewy), I was pretty disappointed with the tea itself. If you let your drink sit too long, the dilution completely messes up the drink. So unless you gulp your drink within the first few minutes, be wary of your drink being diluted. It's nice how they put real fruit in your drink though. read more

Any chances you'll be open after 7pm? I find myself craving hot taro milk teas in the evening.
Unfortunately not at this moment. Once the coronavirus situation gets better and under control, we will have our normal hours from 11am to 9pm. Thank you for your understanding.
Are there non-dairy milk options?
Yes, currently we have almond milk, soon we will try coconut milk and soy milk to see which one taste better.
