My wife and I bought an old 1960's ranch style triplex that we are slowly renovating ourselves. It had 3 crusty, old, pink-painted cinder block porches that made the place look horrible. I wanted to build one big wooden porch that would essentially go over the existing porches, but the porches and doors were at slightly different heights due to previous foundation issues and the area between them was uneven as well. Being novice renovators with little experience, we couldn't wrap our heads around what needed to be done. We have already completed some big DIYs around the property by researching online and watching a ton of youtube videos, but we couldn't find the answers we needed online for this project. This was something we couldn't do ourselves without someone guiding us through the process. A co-worker of mine told me about Mito, so I reached out to him and he set me up with a plan and shopping list via phone and email. The morning of our build, he showed up with donuts and a vast amount of building knowledge!
Mito's a natural teacher. It's pretty clear this is what he loves to do and he's very good at it. He taught me things as we went along like how to scribe, notch beams, leveling on non-level surfaces, how to care for my tools, and general deck construction, but it didn't feel like a class. It was just like hanging out with a friend who happens have a ton of construction experience, and communicates very well. I got a lot out of that day. He wrote me a very detailed and comprehensive plan (with drawings and everything!) on how to finish the rest on my own. He's also very humble, intelligent, witty, positive, articulate, caring, helpful.. just a good guy!
We seriously couldn't be happier with how it turned out. People always comment on how good it looks. Even people who didn't know how bad the porches looked before!
If you're struggling and need help with a project, just reach out to him. I bet you'll feel relieved even after your first conversation! You won't regret it!! read more
