We went for the buffet for my brother-in-law's 66 birthday!! The food was great & the service even better! They even sang him "Happy Birthday with a piece of cake & a candle for a wish!! Such a nostalgic atmosphere too!! Highly recommend!!! We will be back!! Thank You!! read more

Review is for the store/gas station. Super clean bathrooms. Excellent variety of snacks and gifts. Loved the bright purple hair on the attendant lol she was very nice. They sell the little paper cones full of warm cinnamon glazed nuts. "The Nutty Bavarian" fresh roasted Bavarian nuts. MMMMMM!!!! I got two for $9 of the almonds and cashews. I ate some almonds in the car and sent my brother back in to get me two more bags of cinnamon almonds ha! A great place to stop and rest before getting back on the highway. We didn't try the restaurant, maybe next time. read more

This restaurant serves a continual stream of truck drivers all day. The sheer number of trucks in the parking lot told me this was going to be a great place to eat. It is exactly what you would think of when you go in for a home-cooked breakfast. I have zero complaints. Everything was very good. I elected not to go with the buffet this morning and was not at all disappointed with the breakfast I chose. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the hashbrowns were delicious. I'm not a big French toast guy, but even that was very good. If you're traveling through central Illinois on I-55, I highly recommend the Dixie! read more

Homemade food and strong coffee for truckers. They have a buffet too. I recommend this place if you're traveling or just hungry.

With ample truck parking, amazing servers, and great food in a nice casual classic diner-style setting, it is easy to love this place. Friday night is the seafood buffet and a real treat for anyone who likes crab legs. The crab bake, crab chowder, and seafood salad are also top notch, but honestly...there's nothing quite like devouring 10 clusters soaked in hot butter! If around for breakfast, the horseshoe with choice of meat, eggs cooked to order, on hash browns under gravy and cheese with toast is incredible, although the hash browns could have been cooked quite a bit more. The servers are some of the sweetest, most thoughtful, kind, and wonderful people in the business. Rest assured that you're in good hands! read more

It was good if you don't care what the food taste like. But the food was pretty bad. But the service was good.

Review is for both the restaurant and the store. The restaurant: despite of Covid back in late September, it was open. This included the buffet and salad bar. I wasn't really that hungry for a buffet, but I had the salad bar with my hamburger and fries. Food was really good, as was the service. Some Route 66 memorabilia and stuff here and there, but there was more in the "store" part. It was a typical truck stop/convenience store on the inside, with lots of stuff (food, souvenirs, etc.) and there was plenty of Route 66 collectibles to get. My only complaint was they didn't carry Route 66 hoodies - but hey, at least they had lots of magnets and signs! Route 66 travel information is also available. If you're familiarized with Route 66, you'll know this is one of the most classic stops in Illinois - literally. Be sure to walk across the street, as there is a historical marker that talks a lot about the history of Dixie Truckers Home. Did you know this was once an outdoor movie theater at one point? This is the oldest truck stop in Illinois, dating to the early 1930s. (There have been many claims that this is the oldest truck stop in the United States, but I'm sure a few others will dispute that, who knows) read more

Tire went down on the interstate on July 4th and we were near this service station. We were alerted by a clerk that this service station had free air at the diesel gas pumps, when we went to acquire quarters to pay for air. Angie, one of the workers, gave us a business card of a nearby guy whom might be able to help us change the tire. She was very helpful. We ended up mostly changing the tire ourselves. There was one really helpful trucker that came back and assisted us 3x. Our tire was apparently stuck, and needed to be wedged-off with the flat end of a crowbar and hammer. But I digress. Purchased bunch of drinks, tire pressure gauge, and postcards. Thanks so much Dixie Truckers! We recommend you! read more

I took a road trip to St. Louis and this was my get off the toad and relax stopping point. The service was great, the food came quickly and my grilled cheese with bacon and tater tots were yum! read more

We stopped in for a restroom break. Store was big and clean. We decided to have dinner at Dixie's Family Restaurant. I ordered the Dixie's Horseshoe with roast beef and my guy ordered some Plate Special with turkey. Each comes with a trip to the soup and salad bar (once). I tried the chicken noodle soup and it was nice and hot, but a bit salty. Make sure you check the bowls and plates....my guy said he had to go through 3 dirty bowls before he found a clean one. Dixie's Horseshoe - It's toast, with roast beef and fries on top with cheese sauce over it. I have no idea why I got this. Well, it was ok, but pretty bland. The cheese sauce was very light in color and not much cheese flavor. I would say skip it and go elsewhere. read more

I should start this by saying that I rarely have to give out 1 star reviews, but seriously, this place is terrible. Why is it a cliche' that truck stop food is so bad? And buffets? Unfortunately, this establishment is plagued by both of these terrible cliche's. I don't want to waste too much time ranting about how bad my experience was because no one is likely to read this anyway. I mean if you've made it to McLean and are too hungry to drive to extra 15 minutes to Bloomington, then by all means, stop in and see for yourself, but don't say i didn't warn you. Terrible service. No refills on our suspiciously overly-fluoride tasting water. Terribly understocked buffet, and honestly all of the food was just really bad.. and at times inedible in a sense. I assure you, this is NOT a local watering hole, or any trucker's favorite greasy spoon. Oh, and it was like $11.00 per person. I mean, we knew this before agreeing to have the buffet, but still, it was insulting. Maybe ordering off the menu is a better choice? I won't be back to find out. read more

We go on drives often and have enjoyed stopping here in the past. In the past. We were there a few weeks ago and it was the worst experience ever. I realize this isn't a 4 star restaurant, but it took a while for someone to even acknowledge we were there. The entire time we sat there, only 3 tables were occupied. We ordered lite breakfast food, nothing complicated (eggs, meats & french toast). 40 minutes later, we were still waiting. When the waitress finally brought the food, I asked for syrup. She left and, 5 minutes later, returned with a store-bought bottle saying, "All we have is sugar-free. Ok?" Ok, it won't kill me, but someone doesn't keep an eye on the inventory? Worse, my french toast bread was stale and my husband's eggs were runny. We would have told our waitress had she ever returned. Someone else brought the check and we told him, but it wasn't met with anything more than a head-nod. We left, but I needed some snacks & drinks for the road so we went into the store. Half of the store had nothing on the shelves and the two employees in that area were arguing. This place used to be worth a stop but from now on, we'll drive on to the next place. read more

Dixie truckers Home has alot of history, was the first truck stop on the Mother Road. It has changed alot over the last couple years, used to have a great Route 66 Museum in one of the hallways, but the original owners sold the place. The new owners need to take care of it quite a bit better than they do. Very disappointing compared to what it used to be. Food is still decent though. And still gets a visit everytime I'm nearby read more

Terrible meal. Stopped there for breakfast and had to wait forever when they were only 40% full. When my breakfast arrived, the potatoes were way under-cooked. I sent it back expecting the cook to put the potatoes back on the grill and that they would be darker. Not even! They just threw the whole plate into the microwave to heat it up. The egg in the sandwich was swimming in grease and the middle of the Texas Toast was soggy. Don't waste your time! read more

Worthless. I overpaid for a simple truck stop lunch of breakfast food that took 40 minutes from sit down to get up. Never again.

The first time I ate here was in 1998 my Dad and I were headed to St Louis to the NASCAR race. We had an excellent breakfast which included fried corn meal mush. For those unfamiliar, one can make corn meal mush or grits and pour it into a loaf pan and once it sets up you can slice it, fry it in butter, and serve with with maple syrup. (Tastes much like French toast). My Dad used to make it in the winter sometimes when I was a kid. This is the only place in the world I have found that on the menu. I made yearly trips down to St Louis to the races for the next 10 years or so, sometimes with my Dad and sometimes with another friend, and we always stopped at the Dixie Trucker's Home and ordered the fried corn meal mush for desert with breakfast. (My buddy Dave's Dad used to make it when he was a kid too.) I stopped there last summer and the fried corn meal mush was not on the menu but they do often offer it on the breakfast buffet, and the friendly waitress girl was able to set me up. The Dixie Truckers home was one of the original truck stops in America, and opened on Rt. 66 in 1928. Around 2003 or so the original family sold out, and the place fell on hard times and became pretty run down, but it was remodeled a few years ago by a new owner. In my estimation it isn't as good as it once was, but it's improved a little recently. read more

The food is typical truck stop/diner fare, but the gift shop and services are above average. It has been recently redone, so the place is clean and bright. read more

I have not eaten here in a number of years but I ordered a soda and it tasted horrible. I asked the waitress about the taste and she said oh we have well water and it tastes bad, after another drink of the soda I could not drink it anymore and ordered milk. The food was good but I had sausage gravy which I'm sure included water when they made it and I could taste the well water in that also. You would think that place of this size could have a better water filtration system so that it would not affect the quality of their product or at least warn people ahead of time that they don't care to produce a quality product. read more

America's first truck stop. Orginally built in 1928. This place was remodeled a few years ago. New place looks great. Buffet is always excellent with a good variety of items. Plenty of parking for trucks. Lot isnt paved so you can always make a spot anytime of the night. read more

I love truck stops and this one is a fine one. On the mother road (route 66). Good variety on the menu, with burgers, and sandwhiches, and spaghetti, and breakfatst. They even have a buffett with broasted chicken. Pretty solid food right off I-55. Not to expensive either read more

Breakfast buffet was horrible; cold, greasy and flavorless for the most part. Ate then lost it in the bathroom, puked it up. Didn't have to pay for it, the only upside to it I guess. Should have known it was going to not be good when we drove up and two waitresses were right outside the front door smoking. Bonus points as one of them was clearly pregnant and tattooed/pierced. read more

Stopped in again recently (just had too) They have totally re-done the place. It is very nice. Clean and now a place I will stop for a bathroom break and a snack. (just stay away from the fountain drinks the water is well water and makes the soda taste funny). They were nice and let me pick a bottled soda. I will stop again. read more
