Came on a Saturday during the farmers market. The shop was very crowded and the line was super long- all the way to the bathroom. Took about 40-45 mins to finally get our coffee after walking in but the baristas were all super kind and apologized for the wait despite it being out of their control and them working diligently. They have a wide assortment of pastries that look absolutely delicious and of course, coffee, with syrup options (they use the 1883 brand), and a seasonal menu. We got the vanilla and the caramel latte, and both were the perfect amount of sweet and had good flavor. Would absolutely recommend! read more

PUMPKINQUEST 2025 CONTINUES! I am in search of the most yummy sessonal goodies in the area. Todays travels took us to historic downtown Bloomington to a favorite watering hole, The Coffee Hound on Main Street. Famous for their amazing coffee,teas and homemade baked goods, today's search was for the ellusive Pumpkin Spice Latte with real Pumpkin! (Don't be fooled by chain restaurants who advertise pumpkin spice but have spice but no pumpkin. Shame on you, giant chain restaurants!) I ordered an iced pumpkin spice latte with an extra shot of espresso. It was a perfect blend of espresso, pumpkin, spices and cream! Very refreshing after a day of errands and just what I needed for the mid-afternoon slump. I eyed the pumpkin cake but will have to try that next time as too full from lunch. My friend got a loaded hot chocolate which he pronounced, "yummy!" The Staff as always, friendly and helpful. I love the ambiance of this location with the origial artwork and downtown charm. Review Visit: March 15th, 2015 With two places to choose from, you won't have to go far in Bloomington/Normal to find a coffee place! When I visited Coffee Hound, I hit up the Bloomington one, so this info is based on that one. Coffee Hound is located on Main Street where parking is convenient, the area is nice and the coffee good. I came here with a group of friends and we all got delicious drinks. While my drink was on the more 'espresso-y flavored' side, it was still good. The staff is nice and friendly and they have some cool merchandise for sale. I don't want to hound to you go, but support your local coffeehouses :). read more

Solid coffee spot near the ISU campus! I really enjoyed my carmel whole milk latte--espresso was well balanced, and ordering it 'half sweet' kept it from being overpowering. The wait was long, but it was a busy Saturday morning during the farmers market, and the staff did a great job keeping things moving and organized. I woke up to start a long day of driving and the last thing I really wanted off the highway was gas station or McDonald's coffee. I looked up to see if there may be anything better and, lo and behold, I was close to Bloomington and Coffee Hound. It was really nice to take the stop into town and experience this nice little stretch of street in Bloomington. Staff was kind, shop enjoyable, and most importantly, the coffee delicious. Thankfully Coffee Hound was there to get my day and drive going the right way. The hound's barks allowed me to avoid the tasteless experience of McDonald's on my middle of nowhere drives through this country. The best coffee spot in Bloomington. Not even a competition, these guys crafted me an Irish Cream Latte in a big boy sized mug served on a spill ready saucer proving out the bean game is won here. I wanted to go for the horchatta, sadly that sauce was out of stock, however couldn't be sad for long with this St Patrick's approved brew. It went down like smooth green molasses, perfectly warm and mixed without settling over my hour stay. But noticed that parking meter Jeep noticed my car nearing the time up time so had to dash, I could easily spend all day weekends here. It's an enjoyable atmosphere with friendly service and nice little cozy spots. Unfortunately I couldn't get the internet to connect that old despite feeling silly asking for the password multiple times. Come on! We need a nice little cozy coffee shop in town to meet with friends...past 4:00 PM. Don't love: that they are suddenly wearing masks (today's date is Jan 7th 2024) Are the Baristas forced to wear them? I can't help but wonder. Shame on you owners! I think we are all ready to move on from that ridiculousness. It's nearly enough to make me not want to support the place. We will see. Don't love: cupboards are empty. Literally...where they used to have a great selection of pastries (and years ago, pre-COVID, offered gluten free options) they have some "left over" scones and Blueberry muffins. Getting Lazy? Owners are vacationing somewhere and don't see this? Not sure. So, they are left wanting. I love BLM, I love Midwest living , I love this small town. And if I had the cash, I'd open a place similar to this and turn it into what this little coffee shop used to be. What I did really like is they had people wait outside of the store until they put their masks on, so kudos for that. It was busy on the inside in terms of all of the tables were taken up by singles. I asked for a very sweet vanilla latte and it was about average, not especially sweet but it was just okay for a $5 small coffee. I like the design of the coffee cups tho. read more

Not always but a vast majority of the times I gathered the people working there are exceedingly slow. They never have any sense of urgency to get anyone's drink out. They seem to want to talk at the counter or espresso machine. When I complain, they want to correct me first before they address my complaint, which is usually about how long they are taking to get my order prepared. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in BloNo for sure. It's location in downtown Bloomington is really cool, as it gives the shop an old, historic feel. It also is far enough away from ISU's campus that it could be a little less packed than other coffee shops closer to students. Okay now to what we actually care about: coffee. The coffee is great. I would say the best in town. Whether it's hot, iced, or nitro, it's all incredible. Way better than other coffee shops in the area. The pastries are really solid as well. Hands down the best coffee in Bloomington-Normal, AND they roast their own beans with care and precision. Full disclosure: I worked here for a time in college, around 2011-2013, so I may be a bit biased. I will say though that the owners are passionate and care deeply about their business, their customers, and their employees. The employees themselves are extremely knowledgeable; they receive hands-on training and partake in frequent coffee tastings. Getting your drinks from Coffee Hound, or buying their retail products, is the essence of supporting local businesses. Honestly the first couple sips of our lattes were great. But it seems like the foam was the only thing that had flavor so once you work your way down the drink, it lost its flavor. Overall pretty fair. They offer milk alternatives (macadamia nut milk included). The service was ok. Nothing outstanding. I would say this whole place is pretty bland.
