The Coffee Hound, Main St, Bloomington

PUMPKINQUEST 2025 CONTINUES! I am in search of the most yummy sessonal goodies in the area. Todays travels took us to historic downtown Bloomington to a favorite watering hole, The Coffee Hound on Main Street. Famous for their amazing coffee, teas and homemade baked goods, today's search was for the ellusive Pumpkin Spice Latte with real Pumpkin! (Don't be fooled by chain restaurants who advertise pumpkin spice but have spice but no pumpkin. Shame on you, giant chain restaurants!) I ordered an iced pumpkin spice latte with an extra shot of espresso. It was a perfect blend of espresso, pumpkin, spices and cream! Very refreshing after a day of errands and just what I needed for the mid-afternoon slump. I eyed the pumpkin cake but will have to try that next time as too full from lunch. My friend got a loaded hot chocolate which he pronounced, "yummy!" The Staff as always, friendly and helpful. I love the ambiance of this location with the origial artwork and downtown charm. If you are looking for a nice spot to spend a little time during your busy day; stop and smell the coffee. I highly recommend The Coffee Hound, you will not be disappointed! Kate the Artist

Review Visit: March 15th, 2015 With two places to choose from, you won't have to go far in Bloomington/Normal to find a coffee place! When I visited Coffee Hound, I hit up the Bloomington one, so this info is based on that one. Coffee Hound is located on Main Street where parking is convenient, the area is nice and the coffee good. I came here with a group of friends and we all got delicious drinks. While my drink was on the more 'espresso-y flavored' side, it was still good. The staff is nice and friendly and they have some cool merchandise for sale. I don't want to hound to you go, but support your local coffeehouses :).

Solid coffee spot near the ISU campus! I really enjoyed my carmel whole milk latte--espresso was well balanced, and ordering it 'half sweet' kept it from being overpowering. The wait was long, but it was a busy Saturday morning during the farmers market, and the staff did a great job keeping things moving and organized. A bit on the pricey side for coffee, but I'd definitely come back on a quieter weekday.

I only stopped by here to grab a coffee-to-go for my drive back to STL, and I swear, this coffee shop is a vibe. Upon entering the coffee shop, I was in awe of how they decorated the interior of this place. I was impressed. The whole shop has an inviting vibe and a modern twist. I ordered my basic iced caramel latte and a pastry. Both were delicious! I would return to this coffee shop if I ever take another road trip that passes by this town soon.

The best coffee spot in Bloomington. Not even a competition, these guys crafted me an Irish Cream Latte in a big boy sized mug served on a spill ready saucer proving out the bean game is won here. I wanted to go for the horchatta, sadly that sauce was out of stock, however couldn't be sad for long with this St Patrick's approved brew. It went down like smooth green molasses, perfectly warm and mixed without settling over my hour stay. But noticed that parking meter Jeep noticed my car nearing the time up time so had to dash, I could easily spend all day weekends here. It's an enjoyable atmosphere with friendly service and nice little cozy spots. Unfortunately I couldn't get the internet to connect that old despite feeling silly asking for the password multiple times. Really want to see this place use Toast or the Joe app to better incorporate mobile orders and rewards.

not a single soul in this establishment would double-cross you. the space was open and bright and warm (the emotional kind, the temperature was just right). I prefer to grab one of their teas; they have a great selection of blends--hot or iced, you can't go wrong. I hear their espresso drinks also hit the spot. 5 stars: would marry anyone who proposed to me here.

Drive-thru coffee shops are blooming on here recently…read more I suppose that having visited a few drive-thru coffeehouses, this opens the prior closed door on visiting them for my blog. I figured that the lack of being able to experience the vibe and feel for them shouldn't exclude them from my sampling as they can have their own style and their own uniqueness. On a trip to Bloomington with my dad to get lunch, I needed coffee. I slept all morning so trying to get one before we left was a no-go. I figured that since we are visiting Bloomington, I would just visit one that I still have on my list and Blooms Coffee Bar was my choice for today. I drove around the building to see if there was a walk-up window but no such luck. I pullled up to one window (there was one on each side) and the kind barista asked me to pull around to the other side as that's the proper side to order from. I zoomed on over and asked for a moment to look over the menu before deciding what sounded good. Shockingly, I didn't get my usual americano. I was in town for pigging out and decided to treat myself to the Salty Sweet. My dad said he had 3 cups of coffee already and wasn't in the mood for more. It wasn't busy so the lady said I didn't need to pull around to the other window I was just at to pick up my order. So THAT'S how they operate. The drink was made fairly quick and I dipped to the parking lot behind Bloom's to enjoy my drink as we waited for Flinger's to open at 11am. This drink was just the thing to start my day. It was a perfect balance of sweet and salty (which is how I mis-ordered the drink by saying the name backwards). I even went against my usual order style and got a medium instead of a large. I should've gotten the large cause it went down smooth and fast. I pulled around to the front of the building to try and snap a few photos but ended up pulling out too far so my phone's camera put in some work on getting some decent quick snaps for this blog. I am glad that I've started to add these drive-thru only places to my list as each one has been delicious so far. Take this as a lesson to not limit yourself based on silly notions and assumptions.

Who knew vikings could brew up some delicious coffee…read more On a day trip to Bloomington, Emily and I picked a random coffeehouse off my list of ones I have yet to try and we landed on Viking Brews. We both didn't look it up beforehand so we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. As we pulled up, I was surprised to see that there was an attached Viking Liquors and there was a gaming parlor inside as well as a spot for ice cream. I was starving for both food and coffee, as was Emily. But we had birthday lunch plans so I grabbed my usual Americano and decided to get a bagel to hold me over until we got to the restaurant. Emily grabbed a latte concoction that she made up based on the menu offerings. We took a seat at one of the couple tables available and waited a few minutes for our drinks and my bagel. I kid you not........ this was the best bagel I've ever had. Most of the time, a bagel will be dense and tough to pull apart while eating. Not this one. It was light and fluffy and full of flavor despite being a plain one. They use these for their sandwiches and it really makes me want to come back and try one out. As for the coffee, the americano was really good. Nothing to really highlight besides it being about what I prefer from one. Emily was really happy with her latte and I gave it a sip and it was indeed really tasty. The baristas that were working all had to be in high school but had stellar customer service. I asked them for a few of the stickers they put on their cups and they kindly hooked us up. All in all, Viking Brews would be my go-to spot for americanos if I lived in the area but sadly do not. It was a great start to a day full of shenanigans and lost cellphones. Stay caffeinated, my friends.

Visiting coffeehouses is one of my recreational activities…read more On an adventure to Brookfield, my dad and I stopped in for some caffeine for the road trip. At first, we were confused as GPS took us to a bicycle shop but once we go out and walked around, we found where to get our caffeine. We walked in to a busy cafe and noticed half of it was a bicycle shop. I'm not sure if it's the same owner/business but it was pretty neat to see the two put together. Pretty sure this is a first for my dad and I. I wasn't sure where to order and happened to be standing next to a little computer set up that looked like I could order my own drinks from. Just before I decided to try and use it myself, a barista came over and took our order. My dad isn't used to getting coffees from anything over than his coffee pot at home so he ordered the same thing I always get: iced americano. We waited about 5 minutes to get our drinks and then we dipped out to start our adventures for the day. We got to my car and took a few sips to get us energized for the trip to Brookfield and I have to say, the americano from Recreation was really good. It was dark and bitter, just how I like it. My dad tried his first americano and really liked it. He drinks his coffee like I do. Black. So, it's no surprise he could handle the bitterness just as well as me. Recreation was nice little stop to get some caffeine. The baristas were super nice. The place is fairly smaller on the inside so if you have a large group of people, you may need to take the place over or take your drinks elsewhere. Overall, pretty cool place to get some coffee, just don't let the bicycle shop store front fool ya. Recreation has it's own door to enter from outside.
