I absolutely loved the avocado toast here. The avocado to toast ratio was perfect and they sprinkled a slightly spicy tangy powder on top that made it extra delicious. They topped it with some pumpkin seeds as well. I asked for no egg and it was still so satisfying. The cafe itself is cozy and welcoming with a cute exterior seat that makes a perfect little stop on a road trip. Inside there are comfortable chairs by a fireplace that give it such a homey feel. Found this place on Yelp when I was craving some homemade pie. Absolutely loved the selection of pie options they have to offer. I had to go with my favorite which is blueberry, accompanied by a latte. There were so many latte options to choose from it was hard to make a choice but I was glad to find that they offer sugar free hazelnut and caramel as options. Place was slammed but service was very fast, and seating was ample. Loved the comfortable chairs and couches that they have! Great place will be back for more! read more

Where in the world am I.... Just inside the middle of the middle of no where this delightful coffee shop lives. Very clean cute interior good for gatherings or studying/ working. Large with two rooms and an outdoor spot. There is breakfast and lunch served here.... Oh and I think they have pie ;) We had the cherry salad and the ham sandwich on the pretzel bun. Love love love this restaurant. I discovered common grounds three years ago on a road trip and have been returning for breakfast or lunch whenever I'm heading to Peoria. They have a great variety of coffee and loose leaf tea drink specialities and the best homemade pie slices imaginable. This trip I had a lunch special of their Italian ice box sandwich which was super unique and came with bacon and cheddar soup and macaroni salad. What an adorable cafe! They told us it was originally an auto service station. They have done a masterful job totally revamping the space into a comfy, stylish place that invites you to hang out a while. Love, love, love the lighting! Common Grounds is killing it! I love what Katrina has done to transform this building into an amazing little coffee shop. With great drinks and great food, Common Ground is a must-visit if you are even close to Gridley. I'm so excited that this coffee shop exists in Gridley. At long last, finally we have a place to hang out, see friends, drink coffee, and eat food! The interior of the shop is super unique, with creative decorations and plenty of seating. There is an extra room for special events as well. A couple of my favorite things that Katrina has done is 1.) During Christmas time, she had Christmas cards from families all over the community hanging on the wall, and 2.) She has a cork board where someone can "pay-it-forward" by pre-purchasing a drink or a piece of pie for a specific person to redeem the next time they're in the shop. Katrina really did a fantastic job of creating a modern and welcoming vibe for all. Personally, I hope that she will sell cold brew soon:) Love this place! read more

First of all, this place is adorable! The owners have done a bang-up job of making it so warm, cozy and inviting inside. When I arrived with my friend I just wanted to stare for a while as it seemed every place I looked there was another clever bit of decorating. The menu is on the wall and you order at the counter. It's a small menu but some nice variation. I didn't think to ask if you could get breakfast all day and it didn't say it was only available during certain times so you probably can. The special of the day was a chicken Philly cheese steak sandwich and the soup was creamy poblano. That's what I got along with an iced mocha. My friend got a wrap with pasta salad. The food arrived at our tables fairly quickly and my soup was piping hot as was the sandwich. Generous portions! The chicken was shredded and so tender and there was a lot of it. It was served with a sweet kind of spread and I would have preferred it to be more Savory but that was a small thing. This soup was also on the sweet side and I was expecting it to be more savory. Next time I will try different things because there will be a next time! We shared a slice of kuchen, a coffee cake sort of dessert that was delicious. They had a selection of roughly 10 different pies in the display case at the counter. My friend thought they were made by local Mennonite women, it was a nice, varied selection and they all looked really good. There were other baked goods at the counter as well and different coffees and teas that you could purchase. What a treasure of a place for the small town of Gridley! read more

A couple of my favorites are the cinnamon bun iced chai latte and the raspberry white chocolate mocha-YUM! As for breakfast, I love the breakfast sandwich followed by a jumbo cinnamon roll. No need to worry about a dry biscuit ruining breakfast-their breakfast sandwich is made with the best biscuits I've ever had, hands down! And the cinnamon rolls... need I say more?? Hidden gem! We happened upon Common Grounds on our way through Gridley and just had to stop, the store is so visually appealing! Super glad we did! Fabulous eclectic interior (with the coolest refurbished beam and hanging light arrangement we've ever seen!) Staff are welcoming, and attentive. The coffee was outstanding - robust, aromatic and the perfect temperature (not too hot, not too cold.) The scone was delicious, obviously made with high quality ingredients. This place is hands down, the best coffee shop in the area. The drinks were all delicious and so well done. We had a spiced chai, hibiscus loose leaf tea, and the iced tea. The cinnamon rolls were massive and so gooey and delicious. I can't even describe how yummy the sticky buns were- I will be dreaming about those for a while! They were perfectly baked and each bite was heavenly! We also got the Meat Lovers quiche- amazing flavor! And of course, a slice of the chocolate pie to go. This place looks great from the outside but if you go inside it is so cozy and warm. The people are always happy to serve you and the food is amazing.
