Food is ok and does not match the prices. If you select cut fruit as a side, you get a little pre-packaged fruit cup that costs about a quarter. They don't even serve real butter. I understand this place has been here forever but it's tired and not worth the money. read more

For locals we get the plates To-Go, and generally we feel we get more value that way. The portions are generous (in or out), but you'll bust a gut if you try to eat it all. There are non-seafood items for the picky eaters and kids...last time I checked you could still get chicken tenders and apple sauce. My last visit, so you pay $20.50 for 2 combination plate but wait then they add $7 for oysters and $4.00 for flounder and extra for salad and potatoe extra so what is the $20.50 for slaw? Sublime. The seafood is never overcooked always light. The hush puppies are phenomenal. The portions are great. The Dixie Queen special can't be beat for value. The only thing I would recommend against getting is the broccoli and cheese. Everything else is full tilt and the iced tea is unbelievable. read more

Came here on a Friday night with my best friend for takeout. We hadn't seen the menu so we decided to order when we got there. Despite there being an ENC monsoon happening outside, the place was absolutely swamped when we arrived with people waiting to partake in their traditional Friday fish camp dinner. We walked to the counter, asked our questions​ and placed our order. Despite the place being packed, the food came out in about 15 minutes which was absolutely miraculous and is a testament to their efficiency. Everything was packaged just so and every condiment we needed was in the bag. Everything we had was absolute perfection despite driving 15-20 minutes back home in the rain. The shrimp, fish and hush puppies were absolutely out of this world and on their own made a wonderful meal. But then the sides were also delicious. Fresh broccoli and baked potato were deliciously​ made and rounded out the meal. This was a great experience. I don't know that we'll ever eat in but we'll definitely take out again soon. read more

Food is always great here. Their seafood is always fresh no matter the time of the year you good. There is usually a 10-15 minute wait, but it's worth waiting for. As you are seated in your table, the table has paper placemats, silverware and 3 warm hushpuppies waiting for you. The server quickly takes your drink order, follow by more hushpuppies, and then your food order. The food comes out relatively quick, it's hot and fresh. You can tell it's name with love and the owners are proud of the restaurant without a doubt. The sides are great, I got the sweet potato and salad perfect size to go allow with my medium broiled shrimp and garlic butter. So yummy!! Please don't expect fancy plates they are disposable. Which it's great, easier to clean up. If you are an ice lover, the ice here it's the perfect size to chew and eat without making a mess. My in-laws visit Dixie Queen usually once week, I see why. Food is fresh, comes out relatively quickly and it's a great price. read more

The food is plentiful and taste GREAT! This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Pitt County.

Service was okay, the food situation was a little chaotic. The amount of aluminum foil was a little weird. My salmon came on a plate with aluminum foil and so did my potato. My potato seemed have lived a very short life as it was rather small. The salmon seemed to have no seasoning and the steamed broccoli was in the same boat. Everything seemed rather outdated, also the men's restroom having the trash can right beside the only urinal is very awkward so is the camera that seems to be directed at the doors to the restrooms. read more

My family has been going to this restaurant for years. I'm guardian for a special needs person and we always sit in the back at the same table. He is hard of hearing so he's loud so we prefer to be in the back. He can't do booths very well and the tables out front are close together so he's going to be too loud. Today we went at our regular time and started to go to our table. We were informed that no one can sit in the back unless you have 4 people (there was 3 of us). There are tables for 4 in the back. We asked why as this is where we sit every time and we were told that it was the managers decision. So we left. We will not support this restaurant any longer!!!!!!! read more

Today I experienced racism at its highest at this establishment. In most companies the customer is usually right but today I learned that even if there was a misunderstanding with placing and order over the phone this company will not own up to their mistake. I was told over the phone I could come back to pick up the part of my order that was missing and pay the difference. To my surprise when I arrived at 7:25pm the door was locked. Upon calling the restaurant Amanda told me she had the right to lock patrons in the building during business hours and she refused to fix my order. Rude, racist, and I will not be dining there again. I have witnessed her on other occasions speak rudely to the workers and look past me when my pickup order is ready to collect payment from patrons that placed orders in the restaurant all while my food was getting cold. read more

The prices have increased to a point that we will no longer be a customer. $31.00 for a flounder/oyster combination on Styrofoam plates and decor from the 1970's just won't cut it anymore. Honestly, I don't know what has happened to this (formerly) iconic restaurant. Yes, I know food prices went up and therefore restaurant prices had to to up. BUT, a HALF piece of flounder (senior price) was $13.99! If I had known that the amount of flounder was one half of one piece, I would gladly have paid more. As it was, I left there and went home for a snack. Sadly, the amount of coleslaw has shrunk to about half of what it used to be. So disappointing!!! I ordered the oysters off senior menu they were 20 dollars. When they came they were a lot o the plate but they were about the size of a quarter. No oyster taste just fried breading. My Mother told them I could not eat them With the plate still full they took them back and ask if I wanted anything else. I ask for deviled crabs which is what my Mother had. The waitress took it to the back and came back with one deviled crab cake and the ticket they still charged me $20 and threw the oysters away. Live in Walstonburg and tried the Farmville location once. Hubs and I ordered fish and shrimp platters, respectively, and they both tasted like frozen. Definitely were not fresh, sorry to say. They served hush puppies for the appetizer, also definitely frozen. Price was semi cheap, the waitress was sweet (thus the two stars), but the food...nope. We love DQ! Honestly the best shrimp and scallops fried or grilled. You get more for your money with fried. Crab cakes are good but I have not tried the Maryland crab cakes yet. They probably have more meat in them and less filler. Prices are average for today. They do have nightly specials. Great cocktail sauce! Hush puppies are so good dipped in the sauce. Slaw is great, sweet and finely chopped. Baked potatoes are good. The sweetest staff. Sunshine knows us when we go in and knows what we normally order. It's not anything fancy inside but it is comfortable and a little nostalgic. Has booths, tables, fluorescent lighting and a coastal theme. Just feels homey. Always clean. Wow! I was taken here for dinner on Friday evening by a friend while on a trip to Grifton. She's been going here for years and that's about all she would say.. We popped in around 5:15pm - 5:30pm, seated immediately and the place was already 90% full. It's very basic inside, almost like a cafeteria, don't let this full you. Our waitress came by took the drink orders and and was back in a flash with our glasses of Mt. Dew and an order of hush puppies for each of us. There was a big bowl full those butter already on the table. BTW, hush puppies are pretty much unlimited, as the waitress brought them to the table at least 3 times each without asking for more. We each ordered the fried shimp dinner, which comes with two sides, and again within just a few minutes of placing the order the entree was on the table. This was really good shrimp. It was lightly battered, cooked perfectly and very tender. The cocktail sauce was excellent as well. The best way to describe its consistency would be to say it reminds me of a marina sauce. Thin and served at room temperature, not lumpy or cold. It is delicious, perfect for dipping and has a little bit of a spicy kick to it! By the time the meal was over the place had filled to capacity and there were others waiting in the lobby to get inside. If we had a Dixie Queen back home in Va. Beach I dare say they would put a lot of these seafood places out of business. What a great meal! read more

I called at 715 to make a take out order. The girl on the phone said they aren't taking any more phone orders tonight but to come to the restaurant before 8 and order in the store. I drove in from Greenville, got to Dixie Queen at 10 til 8. The girl there told me the owner decided to CLOSE EARLY. too bad. I was furious. Down home seafood doesn't get any better than this! If you are looking for a luxurious setting for eating dinner - than this is not your place. However, if you're looking for fresh, hot & delicious seafood than this is you place. Everything you would expect from a country dinner is served here with a smile and a good attitude. Your seafood can come fried, broiled or even Cajun style. The sides are all good as well. The food is absolutely fantastic!!! It is very expensive but worth the extra money imo. It is around $100 for take out with four people ordering. That is not the issue I have at all. The two stars is because they no longer except debit card payments over the phone. The manager Amanda(who was very sweet) would only comment that, "there have been problems in the past. " I don't understand this as they would be getting paid up front before the order is placed. That is litterally the beauty of debit cards and ordering over the phone. LOL. Anyway with Covid still being an issue in Eastern NC I don't want to wait in a long line for no apparent reason. Our family has eaten at the Dixie Queen for over thirty years.
