We like those guidelines. We'll never pass up a meal out. Joanna took great care of us and kept our coffee cups filled to the brim. My wife ordered one of Dixie House's legendary cinnamon rolls and I ordered the combo breakfast platters. Both of our entrees were wonderful and prepared to protection. We stopped by while passing through for a college visit in Arlington and the food was amazing! Every single thing was made from scratch, even their brewed sweet tea. I did not get a chance to try the desserts, but they had an incredible selection of homemade cheesecakes, pies, and cakes that looked delicious. Everything we ordered was fantastic, especially the mashed potatoes. They were out of this world! My teenage son even said he would commit to the college there just to eat here again. First time here in awhile about 15 years! First off let me just say they Nickel and dime you all the way out of not wanting to come again! We were seated right away there were only 3 tables filled it was a very slow night! I ordered Chicken fried Chicken and my son ordered Chicken Fried Steak which we split! Both were pretty good and gravy was good and hot! I had mashed potatoes which were cold however thankfully the gravy was hot! I had the fried Okra which was very good! My son got pinto beans which were not quite done yet! The price was $13.99 then they added $1.29 we ask for what and it was for rolls! They ask if we wanted rolls or cornbread so you would think it was included in price of meal! It's an old restaurant however it still looks nice with nice decorations! They have trays of desserts and pies if you do choose however at $6.95 a piece it's not hard to pass up! We went to pay and then we realized they charged us around $2.00 for using our card to pay instead of cash! So this little out of the way place with fairly good food is now costing quite a bit! Our service was pretty simple, easy and smooth. We had our cups refilled and got everything we needed. The food was really good! BUT.. My boyfriend said the country fried steak tasted odd, I tried it and made a face. I asked if that's how it was suppose to taste and he had no answer for me. We can't complain since we ate all the food, but we're pretty sure the steak was old. We can definitely move past that and will be back. We just definitely do not recommend the country fried steak. Had a large group of us going out to lunch and we were able to take up 2 tables. Good service by the waitresses too. Came with the recommendation of their Chicken Fried Steak and it was GOOD! This place is ruining itself by greed. They have inflated their prices so much it's ridiculous! My co workers and i stopped eating here because they got so high it just wasn't worth it. They really charge $10 for a breakfast taco not burrito, a taco and it's as big as a regular soft taco from Taco Bell. I saw a sign out that said check out their new lower prices and I went in to grab something to eat and they are still ridiculously high I don't think they lowered anything unless they had another price hike since I last visited and they lowered it back down to the ridiculous price that stopped me from patronizing them in the first place. It's hard looking for a place that serves fried pork chops on a regular, and I think I found my go-to place! I called in for a pick up order and they had it ready within 10min. The pork chops came with 2 sides and a choice of either a roll or cornbread. The pork chops were crispy on the outside, yet still juicy on the inside! The mashed potatoes and corn were really food as well. The cornbread was a bit hard, but that wasn't a big concern. The food is always good. What was so surprising was the price. My mother and father started to go to Dixie over 15 years. And when my dad had a stroke we continue to take both of them and it really perked him up. When he passed we continue to take my mom so she could enjoy. However yesterday my mother and brother went to have lunch and left with a bill of over $73.00 My brother ordered the lunch special $14.95 And tea.My mother ordered a ham sandwich $13.95 and a side of onion rings another $12.95 with tea. The waitress never indicated that they charged her extra for the side dish. We are so supportive of the rise of cost and completely understand. We have seen the rise in other restaurants and have been accepting what once was maybe $35 for two people is now $55 which is fine and we know large restaurants are even higher. But so disappointed in the very high prices that Dixie has gone up. And the majority of the people you see are senior citizens. The food tastes good. The staff is nice. Here are my issues with this place: the prices are high. You don't realize it at first because they have some lunch specials for $13 which is not wonderful but not bad for this day and age. But then when your food comes out you realize that they have pounded the pieces of chicken or pork chop (chops are about $15) till they are paper thin. So they look really big on your plate but they are not really, they've just been flattened out and that causes them to be a little bit dry so you're going to need your gravy, which is very good by the way. They charge you for every little thing. If you want to add a skimpy side to your meal it's $6 minus a few pennies. They will charge you .75 for a little tiny thimble of ranch dressing to dip your fried zucchini in. (My friend said she's going to bring her own in her purse next time LOL). They really need to clean the chairs. They are horribly grubby looking and I brought my own sanitizing wipes in to clean my own chair cuz I don't want to touch it, much less sit in it. If you don't mind paying extra high prices then the food is pretty good just be ready for the meat to be pounded down too thin. They have good rolls, cabbage and fried zucchini sticks. It's a friendly, place people are on chatty, even at the other tables. Go prepared to make a friend or two. read more

The food deserves a 3 or 3.5-star rating. It was pretty good "comfort food." Prices were reasonable on the menu. The restaurant was clean. BUT, at the checkout cash register (old school where you pay as you leave), they added -- unannounced -- a 3% "non-cash adjustment." Folks, this is a surcharge for using plastic instead of cash. I used a Chase debit card, and surcharging a debit card (even if it is run as a credit card by the merchant) is against Visa rules and state law. There are transparent ways to assess a surcharge: display it on the menu, at the front door, or in plain-sight at the cash register. Make it clear there is a surcharge before the charge is run. Even with that, surcharging is chicken-s**t by any measure. They should lose their merchant card services capabilities. I won't go back to Dixie House. read more

Went after church had their Sunday special $13.99 was pretty good with to sides, I ordered dinner salad which was lettuce and a couple of croutons. Chicken fried steak was pretty good. If you go want anything but the daily special bring lots money. Example if you would want a cheese burger it's $13.95 and if you would like some fries that's another $4.99 and if you would want some bacon on it it will be another $4.95. That is $23.89 for a bacon cheese burger w/ Fries. To top it off they charge 4% for using a credit card. They are opening up across form Division dinner where you can get a super buffet on Saturday and Sunday with the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten for $14.99which includes salad bar, omelet bar, waffles regular breakfast items 3-4 meats and to top it off free desert, and their week day breakfast is very reasonable and delicious and they don't charge for using you credit card. read more
