Husband had hamburger steak with grilled onions, twice baked potatoes and green beans. A basket of cornbread and a basket of yeast rolls were delivered to our table - honey and real butter were already there. My husband's brown gravy was tastier than my white gravy, but it was still good. You can order 1/2 portions or full portions of entries. They had a special: angus burger, fries and drink for $5.99, but we wanted plate lunches. Stumbled into this little burger place in Texarkana. Really nice fries, shakes and burgers. The buns are made on-site and the meat was fresh and tasty. Plenty of seating and the parking is simple. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area. read more

The service was great! The food was well prepared; but the one thing that needs to be done is to tone down the salt. That is the only reason I gave it one less star than they deserve. Yuck!!!! Saw a mouse last time I was there. I hate it because I grew up eating here & it used to be a great place for a "home-cooked" tasting meal. I WILL NOT go back! I had heard they had been shut down numerous times for health code violations & should have heeded the warning. Dixie Diner is my favorite place to eat in Texarkana . There are several occasions that I have eaten at this restaurant and never once have I encountered a bad experience or a unfriendly person There have been quite a lot of times that I have been to this restaurant and not only have I never had to wait for a table at this location but have been greeted with the most kind staff. As I was new to Texarkana , I did not know my way around very well , on my first trip eating at Dixie Diner A waitress took the time to give recommendations on other local places to eat and visit . Additionality , the food did take a little longer than expected to get , but as an apology for waiting time our entire table was offered free dessert . Furthermore , on the one occasion that our wait time was long , it was well worth it . Every dish I have ever had at the diner was like home cooking and so delicious . On another occasion the manager himself checked on out table to make sure we did not need any further attention and that everything we had was satisfactory . In addition , he started up a conversation about the baseball game our group had just come from watching (and playing in) and participated with our entire table . Some people may find the attention odd , but being from a small town receiving the home town feel and being welcomed makes me feel a little like home . Every time I have visitors and family in town Dixie Diner is the first place I recommend for any meal of the day and they have never been disappointed , but have actually requested to go back on other trips . Also , If you ever get the chance to visit the diner , their desserts are a must try ! The diner makes fresh pies daily and their strawberry pie with whole fresh strawberries is the best aside from their homemade banana pudding of course. Overall , Dixie Diner is the perfect place to eat if driving through or for any occasion . It has the best homestyle cooking , fresh desserts , and all the staff make you feel like you're at home with their friendly helpful attitudes . First experience and last. We went to this diner while traveling through Texarkana and I ordered French toast and two scrambled eggs. The bread for the French Toast was so small and two pieces instead of the usual Three in most restaurants. My husband ordered an omelet and not surprisingly it came out burnt and extremely greasy/oily. The young waitress was clueless because I mentioned the eggs were burnt and the griddle was too hot but she turned and walked away. This place was empty so I don't know what her rush was to get away. In reviewing remarks, I guess people in this mid-size town are okay with this but we will just keep heading out of town! read more

We were anxious to get home to Texas after being in Nashville for vacation. We arrived in Texarkana just in time for dinner and Yelp led us to this place. I am SO glad it did!!! This place was the perfect "welcome home"! The yeast rolls they bring to the table are PERFECT! Try them with butter and honey, which is already on the table. Yum! The cornbread wasn't bad either, but being from the south, I like mine sweeter. This leads me to the sweet tea, which is also PERFECT! My husband and I both ordered the chicken fried steak. I agree with all the other reviews in saying it was by far one of the best chicken fried steaks I've ever eaten. We got the twice baked potatoes and fried okra, which both were amazing! This leads me to dessert.....you better plan to save room for it because the pies live up to everything else here. We had the strawberry pie and coconut pie and we recommend both! The staff is just as excellent as the food. Everyone was very friendly and polite. The manager walked around checking on people and thanking them for coming in. We live in a small town of Taylor, Ar. We shop Texarkana, like most sourth Arkansas. We love to eat at Dixie Diner!!!! We want who ever owns Dixie Diner to come and put one in at Magnolia! We stopped by The Dixie Diner on our way home from Arkansas. We wanted to try some place local, but we weren't sure how good the service would be since we came in about 30 minutes before closing time. Dan greeted us warmly and assured us we were welcome and that we had plenty of time to eat. Our server Akeela was so nice and immediately brought us a basket of fresh, warm rolls and cornbread. We ordered the chicken fried steak, pot roast, and meatloaf, and every bit of the food was hot, fresh, and delicious! We topped off our dinner with slices of their homemade pies (coconut cream, chocolate, and strawberry), and the strawberry was AMAZING! It was honestly one of the best dining experiences we've had and we will certainly return on future road trips. Great family dining experience, home-cooked food, and fast, friendly service. Driving back to Austin from Arkansas with my Mom and stopped in here for lunch and a much needed break. It was so good! My Mom (82) had half order of chicken fried steak cream gravy, potato soup, and greens. I had meat loaf, black eyed peas, and greens. Yeast rolls and cornbread were abundant. Good home cooking. Busy busy during lunch hour with lots of locals. That's always a good sign. Pie case looked inviting, but I wanted to make it home alive. Reasonable price. 7.95 for half orders of lunch specials. My wife had the small portion of the chicken fried steak, which I regretted after I tasted it. If she'd got a larger portion, I could have eaten a little more. She had green beans and greens. She said they were very good. I ordered bacon-wrapped chop steak, green beans and a twice-baked potatoe. The steak was tasty and plentiful. The beans were fresh and tasty. Even the potatoe had a really good taste. The rolls they bring out are delicious. Butter and honey, oh,my! I ended the meal with strawberry pie. Usually I'm not a big strawberry pie fan, but the comments on Yelp and the scrumptious look of it in the display case as we walked in convinced me. Best strawberry pie I've ever eaten! The Dixie Diner on State Line really made me question why i ever pay to eat out! The food was way too greasy, too salty, and cold! All of it had to be taken back to be microwaved! WAIT, i thought i was paying for a HOT MEAL, not a microwaved one!? Our food might as well have been dropped on the floor, which i dont doubt it was. I have worked in the restraunt buisness before, and i can garuntee you that the quality of this food is VERY POOR. I was very dissapointed, and when i requested to speak to a manager, a rather rude man came out. Lets just say that he definately convinced me to never come back again! He seemed rather slow, and could not answer any of my question. Overall, I do not advise that you try this "home country cooking." Rarely do I submit four stars to anyplace. For starters its about the Pot Roast and Halibut, to the meat-loaf and Pork-Chops. That, is what all of us enjoyed, and no one complained. That's a first coming from my family. The Coconut Pie was to die for and the Rolls were amazing. Cant wait to go back when we get down that way again. I've eaten at some of the other places here that have 4-5 stars and though they are good, Dixie Diner has them beat HANDS DOWN!~ I'm not sure why some give the others higher reviews than Dixie but good grief, Dixie Diner has the BEST crawfish Etouffe in town, chicken and dressing, great potato soup, pot roast and several other entrees and the hot rolls and cornbread start before the meal and just keep coming. I've lived in Texarkana all my life and used to go to the Dixie Diner after church on Sundays with my grandparents. It used to be delicious. I stopped going with them several years ago and just recently came back. When I did, the service was terrible, there was a fly frozen in my mom's ice in her tea, and an employee left the restroom without washing her hands!! We waited 30 minutes just for our drinks! The fly was the last straw. We just got up and left. However, when we approached the manager, she was on the phone and was paying no attention whatsoever to us. It seems since the other location on state line closed, the food has gone down hill. First and foremost, I ate at the other location quite frequently. I decided to try this location. At first i was a little underwhelmed. I don't understand why things were different, but they are. My wife and I went just yesterday and I got so mad that I refused my plate. I ordered a full plate grilled chicken dinner with two sides. The rolls came out and were good enough. Then my wife and my food came out. Hers was fine. Chicken fried chicken. Mine was TOTALLY INSULTING! First, the chicken breast was so small, it resembled the breast of a parakeet! Honestly it was about 3.5 half inches wide! This is supposed to be a full chicken breast! The manager came over after hearing from our waitress that I have a problem. HE tells me that MIKE the owner, has been cutting the food size while raising the prices! Management isn't happy with it and people have been complaining. So I challenge you, fellow yelpers, to go to this location and make it known you will get what you pay for. It was $12 when it used to be 7 or 8! Sounds to me that there are problems with money that is causing him to cut food and raise prices. PLEASE LET THEM KNOW WHERE YOU LEARNED OF THIS AND FROM WHOM!
