Precursor - this is for the mini golf only I sincerely had a great time at this joint. Its like $8 per person and not overly busy, mostly because people are hitting off the two story driving range which visually was cool. The greens are not well maintained, meaning the green is pretty wretched and worn through to the concrete and there are so many trees around that shit gets on the greens all the time and can, as my boyfriend claimed, really impair your mini golf game. Seriously though, its mini golf. No frills really, but its fun, relatively cheap and about one of the only places you can go to play mini golf inside the city unless you want to fight the tourist crowd at the pier. read more

AMAZING spot for outdoor kids' mini golf parties! Mary was exceptionally helpful, accommodating, communicative, friendly, and made our party magic happen. Our friends were as in awe as we were -- it was an easy space to give kids room to play independently while adults could mingle. BYO food & bev is easy or there is a restaurant right there as well. Renting the facility for a private party is reasonably priced, easy to book, and very accommodating of COVID safety and cancellations due to potential uncertainty with the weather. Diversey Range and Mini-Golf is a Chicago gem, tucked away along the lakeshore, perfect for family funday / family night out. Easy access, easy parking, and everyone who works here is so friendly, kind, and helpful. The range culture of fellow city golfers is accommodating of kids learning how to hit, and having the mini golf course right there is the perfect intro to get kids excited to play as they can watch folks on the range -- or come mini-golf as a treat after. 3.5 stars. The top deck of the range offers great views of the city while hitting a bucket. I've always found parking and it's never been so busy where a friend or two of mine couldn't practice together. You can see the skyline and yacht club boats to the south and LSD to the east. It's an experience for sure. I've got issues with the cost per bucket. $14 for 100 balls or $9 for 50. I'm an avid golfer, and those prices are steep. Also, the practice greens are a cheap excuse for AstroTurf. The kind of material you'd find covering the concrete floor of your grandmother's 3-seasons room. I think the range could really benefit from a dedicated chip/putt area as well. read more

Nonetheless, after reading the reviews about Diversey mini golf, I was prepped for maybe a not so scenic session, but I was pleasantly surprised! It could have been the good company, or the pre-game gin and tonics prior but this suburban mini-golfer was perfectly satisfied. This is probably the first driving range I've ever been to in my life. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't the place that got me to start golfing. I go here now whenever I want to go to the driving range. There's many reasons to like this spot aside from it being convenient and in the city. It's pretty busy all the time, and I can't understand what the heck people are doing on an early afternoon on a weekday where they have time off to come out to the driving range. They are also open until 11am. This place has a two story set of stalls, and I believe the lower ones are heated so you could probably go even when it's cold out. This is good for those that are missing the sport even when it's cold. I always go to the top stalls because I think it bugs me that there's something on top of me and so I feel more constrained in the lower stalls. It's about $11.75 for a large bucket of balls for non-members, and I think it's about $7.75 for a small bucket of balls for non-members. I'm not sure if I would get to go out here enough to get a membership. I don't like the turf though, and hate that people switch up the plastic tees from the taller ones to the average height ones. I'm so tempted to bring a knife to shorten it a bit. I don't stick my tees that high in the ground so it drives me crazy to have a high tee. I like how the top deck isn't covered and I can see everyone. There's a lot of cute guys that come here, and so I guess that makes great eye candy. I think you can even bring a date to do something like this. I wouldn't come to late in the eveing because there are mosquitos that come out near the lake. They may even offer classes here. The only reason why I can't give it 5 stars because I like grass and using real tees to practice on. read more

Only three reviews for Diversey Driving Range seems out of step with the numbers of golfers - of ALL skill levels - that use this facility. I was just there last night and figured I would check out what the other yelpers had to say about it. I'm with the women on this one. What's not to like about it. It's cheap, everyone is relaxed and unpretentious, and it's a fun way to destress from a day at the office. I actually had this guy give me about a half bucket that he wasn't going to use - that says friendly! It losses a star for the ugly - and I mean ugly - grounds that receive the hundreds of balls on hour. You basically look out onto a big pile of dirt with a few distance markers and "greens." The "look" doesn't detract from the function, so get out there and pound a hundred or so golf balls. UPDATE: OK, so summer 07 has become a busy golf summer. Four of us are taking golf lessons, and we really like our golf pro at Diversey. Scott Szybowicz, pga pro, is patient and attentive to each of us. We went tonight and got there at 10pm. We have gone several nights at this time without problem. Tonight as we were walking up the individual working locked the door, completely ignoring us. We then tried to use the credit card machine without success. We tried to knock on the door - completely ignored by the staff again. As we finally gave up we saw others try to also go in only to be disappointed too. If you advertise that you are open until 11 - please acknowledge your customers. read more

After taking a golf lesson in Lake Geneva, I decided that i wanted to further my golf "career" so one of my girlfriends and I headed over to the Diversey Driving Range. Picture two girls who have no idea what they are doing -- I almost hit the guy next to me a few times ( dont ask me how or why my ball went directly sideways). But regardless, it was fun and people dont seem to judge there. It's not the prettiest view in the world -- definitely different from taking a lesson at a golf course overlooking a lake, but when I am just concerned about hitting the ball, the beautiful brown turf does the job just fine! read more

I give this one star because the prices have become outrageous and there's no reason why. Come on, $8.50 for 50 balls. You don't even get to keep them. You hit them out there and they pick them up and sell them again. Do you think the guy picking up the balls even makes $8.50 an hour? This place was much better when it was $2.00 for a bucket and it was only one level. Oh yeah, I didn't even mention that the 18th hole at the mini-golf course used to be the Sears Tower. I came here to work on my swing before an office golf outing. There is not much to say really. It is well located in Lakeview so not a short drive from most people that live in the city. The ball prices are a little steep but you pay for the convenience of the location. Everyone is rather friendly. It is clean. read more

The place gets the job done. Employees are nice and the facilities are clean. Prices are what you'd expect ($16 for a large bucket) and the self dispensing ball machine is pretty efficient. The biggest negative is how crowded it can get at times. I don't mind waiting for the stall as much as I do having someone sitting behind me waiting for me to finish while I hit balls. read more

This review is just for the mini-golf course, and not the driving range. I guess I was expecting really challenging and intricate courses (we're talking windmills and mini sand bunkers), but all we got was 18 semi-challenging courses. There was one hole that was particularly cool - there is a wooden bridge that you have to cross - and it was kind of tough! all the other holes were pretty much the same layout. A few of us lost our balls (the jokes you can make while golfing are endless) but overall, it was a decent course on a decent day. One round per person is $8. I don't know if it was worth $8, but it was definitely something fun to do on a sunny day. I'd probably come back here. read more

Yeah so the range area isn't in the best of shape. Yes hitting from 15 feet above ground is a little disorienting at first. Yes it can be crowded mostly by people who are just there to pose. And yes most people there hit with nothing but a driver. But where else are you going to go nearby to hit a few buckets of balls? The scenery isn't half bad. It's a city driving range, of course the suburbs will be cheaper. My only complaints are that the balls are dirty as hell. Come on at least wash them for the price. The range is usually full of balls and not picked frequently so you can watch your balls land on other balls. It usually is never too busy though, so that's nice. Oh and the the mini-golf course is awful, just a heads up. read more

The Diversey Driving Range is now open and its renovation looks great. The artificial turf is dotted with five or six greens near and far plus a couple faux sand bunkers. A large bucket is $13 while the small runs $9 (a buck cheaper with the advantage player card) and you can pay with a debit/credit card. Clubs are also available for rent. Plenty of mats are available to accommodate lots of visitors. The adjacent mini golf course is suited towards kids. Most of the holes slope towards the cup itself making it a fun experience for novice putters. read more

We recently hosted a birthday party put-put event here for our 3 year old son. We could not have been happier with their set up, coordination and service. It was reasonable as well. Specifically, the event coordinator Mary M. was amazingly helpful in getting our event planned out, even so far as to assist us in getting the gifts boxed up after, and helping us exit. This place sucks. The only thing good about it was the location and hours. The fact that they were open all winter long and closed for renovation in April pretty much sums up the whole entire place. Its just ass backwards. The parking rates go up monthly it seems, and bring your earplugs for the annoying golf ball vacuum that sounds like a million balls are crashing on your head. Relaxing, this place is not. It is a good place to meet girls from what I hear, but only if you want to meet a cute girl who sucks at golf. The mats are horrible, the balls are horrible, the dirt, the loud noise, and the fact they can't seem to renovate in the winter or early spring? Wrigley put in an entire new field over the winter. MINI GOLF---- Do NOT even try. We went to play mini golf last night to find RATS everywhere!!! We literally saw 12-15 RATS running all around the mini golf course and even up to the door of the rental shop. When we asked the boy in the rental shop about the rat problem, he first denied, but then we said that we SAW them ourselves, and he said "okay, there may be rats, but this is a park district and we are not allowed to put rat poison out".... EWW DRIVING RANGE--It is okay, but the RATS are very close by... be aware! read more

Been trying to talk an old friend into playing golf for a looong time. He finally took me up on it. At least the first step, hitting some balls on the range. He's a lefty so had to find lefty clubs to rent. Called down to the Diversey range to make sure they had 'em and the person I talked to said they did. Only needed two or three clubs and the person said all they do now is rent out a whole set of clubs. Only needed a couple clubs and they were nice enough to say something could be done..that I should talk to the manger Alex. Well anyone named Alex has got to be cool, great, etc, etc. I could keep going ;) And he was. Took care of me money wise and gave us the whole set anyway. Its your standard driving range for golf. Nothing special, but it is close to Lake Michigan, right next to all boat docks. Not too expensive, about $19 for 100 balls and with three golf clubs (which is what my two friends and I did). It lacks a place to have a snack or even a drink, but overall suits all your driving range needs and even has an old, not very well maintained mini golf course too! read more

Let me preface this with one little detail: I am a newbie when it comes to golf. To put it simply, I was looking for a game that I could play by myself. I live about 2 blocks away so the location was ideal and golf as a solo sport was perfect so I signed up for lessons. I've been here a total of 4 times and I have nothing to compare it to. It suits my needs just fine. My lessons are at 8am on Saturdays so it isn't too crowded. The one time I came by myself was around 4pm on a Monday. Not too bad either (minus the guy behind me who kept driving balls into the area behind me - - I am not expert but is that where the balls go???). Once I build my confidence a bit more, I think this will be the perfect place to take my ipod and zone out on some balls for an hour or so! read more

It was a beautiful Sunday, and my lady and I have always wanted to venture past the running path to the mini golf course hidden away. The pluses: it's just down the street from where we live, there's a food stand which we have yet to try, with a nice little seating area, and it's fricking mini golf!! The course was fun and challenging. There was a party of 5 ahead of us, that were taking this game a little to seriously, again....it's mini golf! Squatting down to view the hills and curves and taking practice strokes?!?!? Ummm...there's a putting green to practice next to the driving range. Go there, and take all the time you want/need. Twas our date day, so I let it go, and we just kept playing the same holes over so that the party of 5 professional golfers would be farther ahead. Luckily there was no one behind us. I come here for convenience. Compared to other ranges in the area such as Sports Park in Skokie and Golf Center in Des plaines, this is the worst of the bunch because of higher prices, antiquated technology, and pay to park. I'd rate it 2 stars if it weren't for the free putting and bunker areas, which I practice regularly. But if you want to see pretty people with Lululemon bodies then this is the place. Just don't embarrass yourself and shank one next to them. read more

Honestly, I only go here because it's the closest driving range to my place. It's overpriced, like others have said.

The newly re-opened range looks great, and there's plenty of stalls even for the large crowds that are there. And I'll forgive it for being super-expensive ($13 for large bucket plus parking), because it's so darn convenient to have a range in the city. So why the two stars? Because I don't know if they were like this before, but the mats they use are very thin--no more than 1 inch. The mats I've hit off at other ranges are definitely thicker. The upshot is that if you're the type of player who hits down on the ball, you are basically pounding your irons into concrete with every swing (this does not apply when you hit off the tee or with a fairway wood or make a sweeping swing). Long story short, after coming home from hitting a large bucket, I was in severe pain on the left side of my ribcage and underarm for about a week (this has never happened to me before), and couldn't swing a club. So I can never go back there to hit irons off the mat again, unless they get thicker mats. Be forewarned. read more

Pretty awesome to have a driving range in the city, only problem its 100% mats. Anyone complaining about this place should drive to the 'burbs to hit golf balls. Usually pretty crowded here, but never too long to wait since they have two levels. Its heated in the winter for year round golf practice. Small bucket is $10 and Large is $15. Definitely expensive, but not unreasonable for the convenience factor of a driving range on Diversey. read more

It's a double decker driving range. About what you would expect in a city. Usually spaces are open. The downside is that you're hitting off mats instead of grass, and the mats are in pretty good shape. Also, the balls are extremely beaten up. Parking is pretty easy, haven't had a problem, but you do need to pay and they don't validate. read more

Just went for the first time after knowing there was a driving range around there for years but never actually knowing where it was. I'm a scratch golfer and have been around thousands of ranges in my short tenure of life. This range, for the location is great. I guess it was just newly renovated...it looks pretty good. I don't mind the fake grass at all...it actually looks pretty good. And you hit off matt's...not the astroturf. The astroturf on the range is genius for on all year place, very low maintance. There are plenty of targets to aim at, and the balls are in pretty good shape. The price is what you would expect. Every driving range is expensive these days. 100 balls for 13 bucks is fine...you'd be surprised how long it takes to hit 100 balls. The small con's....yea it was kinda a little crowded but not bad at all. Just find someone thats almost done, and wait a little bit for them to finish. I waited 4 minutes on the first 70s temperature day of the year. You are a little scrunched in there...it was hard to aim at the short pin on the right (from the middle left side of the range, bottom part) without almost hitting the pole. For a full size driving range in the middle of Chicago, let a lone on the lake, its awesome. I wouldn't go there to prep for the masters, but i'll be back for sure. You can definitely work on your game, or just live the dream on a sunny Chicago day. read more

This facility is quite lackluster despite relatively high prices (approximately $0.15 per ball, about what Harborside charges for its much superior grass range). The hitting bays lack modern amenities like auto-feeders and adjustable tees. The balls are poor quality, flight-limited range balls. The range itself is rock-hard astroturf--even soft high wedge shots will roll a long way. There are a few good points. The staff is friendly. The mats are in decent shape, and there are a lot of bays. Waits are rare. Most importantly, its conveniently located in Lincoln Park. Ultimately, the location--rather than the quality of the facility--is what you're really paying for. read more
