While we are not good golfers, by any means, our game is improving. After playing many rounds at Green Meadows and Zigfield Troy (which are great courses for beginners), we stumbled on Twin Lakes. It is a short course, but what we like is that is has some challenging greens due to their slope and bunkers. While 6 of the holes are par threes, a few of these play long like number 7 which has a creek through the fairway. Hole number 4 is challenging as you need to hit it 130-150 yards over a pond (from the white tees). On Saturday, I hit the water, but on Sunday I greened it. It's very relaxed. The other golfers were friendly - either beginners like us or don't play a lot. We got a bit backed up on Sunday, so a group of three was behind us and didn't mind my awful tee shot on the 8th. They even helped us find my wife's tee shot on that same hole. As I understand it, the course is under new management. We met the manager on Sunday and he was really nice. He said that they've been working hard to improve the course. It's in really great shape. Staff is friendly and the beer cart guy stops his cart as you address the ball. Then he stays a good distance from you to avoid disrupting your play, but comes right away if you want to buy something. Twin Lakes is a nice course for the novice golfer or a golfer that wants to get in a low key round of 9 holes in a short period of time.

But today I took my buddy (who is just learning golf) to this course, and he doesn't have any clubs yet so I let him use mine. Right when we were about to tee off, an old guy smoking a cigarette drove from the clubhouse to me and my friend on the first tee and scolded us about him not having a bag, saying "we clearly told you guys each golfer has to have his own bag, I'm going to let it go this time" in a very rude tone. Then he told us to keep the pace of play. I've been golfing for years, even with friends who don't have their own clubs, and me and my friends have never been scolded before for one of us not having a bag. Me and my friend were teeing off and he proceeded to hover around us on the tee, and we felt like we were being watched. Me and my friend got to the green on the first hole, and my friend accidentally pushed my push cart onto the green. Simple mistake from a first time golfer but not something anyone typically bats an eye to. But of course the same old man drove to us all the way from the clubhouse AGAIN, and when I noticed this I proceeded to move the cart off the green. Then the old man scolds us for the cart being on the green and lectures us about it not being "golf etiquette", and then he lectured us again how we need to keep up the pace of play even though we weren't going slow. I told him that my friend was a first time golfer and that he's still learning the game. Then he yells at me "TEACH HIM". Then these young 12 year old kids, probably from Hinsdale, were on our asses the whole round, making me and my friend feeling like we're in a rush. Later in the round we noticed they were actually hitting the ball when we were still on the green, even though this was clearly a par 3 course. That old guy didn't bat an eye. This is usually a great course to go to and I will be coming back, and it's usually good for beginners. BUT this is the worst course you can take a beginner golfer to IF that old guy is working that day. This was the worst customer service I've ever had at a golf course.

This golf course is on a really beautiful setting. The layout is challenging yet fair. The bunkers…read moreneed to be redone but we just took preferred lies in the bunkers. The cart paths need to be resurfaced but hardly a big problem. We were surprised that there is not a bar that's open other than the halfway house. Since it was 93 degrees when we played we needed A/C after the round. We grabbed a beer in the pro shop (very cold) and sat on lobby furniture for our 19th hole. If management would make a few adjustments this could be a very good experience. So close to getting one of my regular weekly rounds. Let's go guys! Get some sand and set up a sports bar! You have the facilities. Build it and they will come!!

We paid $72 each for a 4:00 PM tee time and arrived to find there were no carts available and a delay in getting on the course. We were told we could use the driving range while waiting, but there were no range balls available either. Once we finally got a cart, there was no starter, no ranger, and no apparent management of pace of play. A group of 6-7 golfers was holding up the first hole, and despite calling the pro shop, nothing was done. To add to the chaos, there were also kids fishing in areas of the course near the fairways. The bunkers were extremely below expectations, and the overall operation felt disorganized from start to finish. There was also a wedding taking place near parts of the course, though due to the delayed start and slow pace of play, we never made it far enough to see how much it impacted play. For a course that regularly charges over $100 during peak times, the experience simply did not justify the cost. Save your money and consider one of the many better-run courses in the area.

The club is quite new so the membership is young and the atmosphere more casual than the more established west suburban country clubs. Relative to its competitors, it is more family friendly, gender neutral, and diverse. The cost to join is steep. There is no clubhouse yet, but the club keeps growing and adding amenities. The pool and pool house (used as a temporary clubhouse) are first class, the tennis and platform tennis facilities are all new, but the course (and the opportunity to join an all new club where the culture is still developing) is the big draw. If you are lucky enough to know a member and get on the course, hit your putts cleanly but carefully...

We called the clubhouse numerous times and were not successful in reaching anyone, left multiple messages. We were stranded for about 45 minutes. The temperature was dropping quite a bit so we just left the cart next to the halfway house and walked all the way back to find the clubhouse closed. I get it, stuff happens; but a week later to not even get a call back or anything from the course or manager is ridiculous.

A historical municipal gem maintained by Nick Pulido and his hard working friendly staff. Carts are quick, clean and ready to use. Priced right with senior discounts. This year one of the participants contacted me a week after the outing and said he left something behind in the cart. Assuming he left his favorite golf ball, his dentures, his wallet or all three, he said no, even worse than that, it was his Wingman (worth $150) Ouch! I said forgetaboutit. It had to be now, just a memory. Much to our surprise they retrieved it and was in their lost and found. WOW! Bob was the staff member who is know known as America's last honest man who made an old golfer very happy. Play there, you won't be disappointed.
