They say that over 10,000 years ago the Homestead Crater was formed when melting snow along the Wasatch Mountains mixed with heated geothermal hot springs 2 miles below the earths surface started spewing out water and picking up minerals such as limestone which were then deposited above the earths surface forming a volcano or "beehive" like formation. A Swiss settler discovered it in the late 1800's and named it a hot pot. Originally visitors had to be lowered into it via cable. As of the mid 1990's there is now access via a tunnel. We of course had to check it out and I'm so glad we got to experience it and learn about the history. It wasn't as hot as I had expected it to be, and while I initially thought 50 min was not enough of an experience, it most certainly was.

The swim/soak for 40 minutes in the natural crater is a 5/5 experience! The cost is $30 per person…read more(a little pricey), and the water temperature is usually high 90s Fahrenheit (cooler than a typical hot tub). Lockers and changing rooms (but not showers or bathrooms) are available for your items after you enter the crater. The online purchase to reserve your spot was easy. You should bring your own towel and lock for a locker. The Homestead facility is currently undergoing construction, so I realize the check in experience may improve later. The signs for parking and check in locations were confusing and/or incorrect, and multiple employees with an H polo didn't help us with finding the lot when we were clearly looping around among construction unsure where to go. I'd recommend to Homestead to remove/cover the arrow sign to the crater on Bluff Rd until that construction is complete. Additionally, I recommend better check-in signage on the beige activities building since this busy country club has many "activities" from tennis to golf that aren't necessarily linked to the crater. Temporary A-frame signs would be sufficient. I felt safe in the crater with the required life vest, and we signed waivers before entering. The view from the top of the crater is lovely if you're willing to climb a few dozen steps.

Despite the very…read morechilly temperature the water was 71 degrees over in the abyss and 56 in the outdoor water area. The staff was very friendly and there was lots of parking. They have areas for you to rinse off and change. They have a place for you to refill tanks. It's a beautiful place to practice diving. Would love to come out in the summer when it's a bit more comfortable weather wise.

Bonneville Sea Base is a commercial diving spot out by the Grantsville Mountains that lets…read moreIntermountainers have a true terrestrial saltwater diving experience! There are three ponds there that you can dive in, the deepest (and warmest of the three) being The Abyss which goes down to 60 feet, and the other ones only being about 20 or so feet deep. Since this base was founded for scuba diving, Bonneville Seabase has gone the extra mile to make the experience optimized for the activity, they have put green house covering over all water areas (to help keep them warm) as well as designed all the "flow" of the base to make things convenient for scuba divers, such as where you hang things, how you walk through it, where you change, where you sit, enter/exit, etc. For what it is, Bonneville Seabase is as good as it gets for a terrestrial scuba diving spot. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is that I would need to go again, as I only went as a scuba certification in the Abyss to 25 feet and I will need to check the other ponds and depths to give it a full review of the experience!

Shop seems cool sometimes good sale but the service side is horrible…read more Had my ss1 serviced the week before a Caribbean trip. It failed at depth. Then they took three weeks to service it again and acted like they did me a favor not charging me lol. Not like I was left stranded in Roatan without and octo/inflator or anything. THEN Book a DRYSUIT course and they change the dates 3 times the week of and then come at me salty when I couldn't make the final last minute date change. Then they didn't even refund me hahaha. Literally their trips are insanely overpriced btw. The attitude they gave me because THEY couldn't get their DRYSUIT instructor to stick to one date was laughable. I work in a business where it's not so easy to just keep changing and am shocked they stay in business treating people this way. Go anywhere else. Had an amazing experience getting certified here at Scuba Utah. It was so straight forward and fast…read moreto get done (we did the one week course). Our instructor Jonathan is just the best. He was so kind and patient with us all even when we kept forgetting to lay our tanks down before walking away (sorry Jon). He is also very very passionate about the wagon wheel up at the crater which I found inspiring. He got us done as efficiently as possible with a full class and lots of skills to get through and kept it fun. This place is also ran and owned by women which is a slay.

We had the best instructor we could've asked for :-) Rachelle was not only thorough, she was very patient. I was terrified to do my open water, and she helped me through every step of the way. I honestly could not have gotten through the class if it wasn't for her and all her help and training knowledge. When I finally was on vacation, I was very confident scuba diving due to my training.

The SCUBA class was small and I felt like I have learned a lot and also received really good time with the instructors practicing our dives and techniques. Also, they offer a lot of different courses for those who may already be SCUBA certified or want to enhance their knowledge. John was my instructor and Becky helped him and I have absolutely found a new passion. Laurie also has this place stacked with all the things you could ever need for diving and she is honest and upfront about the products, how they assist divers of various levels, and I have seen her help clients who have come in with gear from other locations and try to help them out. Super thankful I found this place and who knew diving was a thing in a land locked state!?! So rad!

All three programs were executed professionally, with kindness and acceptance for all individuals at their level. This shop carries everything you need to be successful and the staff are extremely helpful in finding the right fit for you personally.
