I was superrrrr nervous to walk into a surf shop to buy a wetsuit for my first ever surf lessons, that start tomorrow. Yeah, I'm 38 and grew up here. I remember attempting to surf with my brother when I was a kid. I quickly gave up though. Anyway, so I feel like a big NERDDDD. Right when I walked in, a warm gentleman asked if I needed anything. I said, "OhMyGodYesPlease. I need a wetsuit and I have no idea what I'm doing." From there, he asked the perfect questions, and I wondered if he had a background in high end clothing consulting! Haha! He was so appropriate, being someone of the opposite sex, and made me feel so comfortable and taken care of. He even brought me different styles and sizes to my dressing room! We got on a first name basis- Whattttt? What an amazing human. MiCHAEL is your man, if ya need an expert. The young dude that was working with him was incredible help, as well. The price for open water and other courses is so competitive , open water cost me $500 and included the gear. they also offer top of the line equipment and facilities. We recently trusted Dive N Surf with our 11 year-old son for his Jr. Open Water Dive Certification. They hooked us up with Padi e-learning (on an iPad, way better for a kid than a paper dive training book) and then with a private instructor (there's not a high demand for kids' classes). Vaughn Allen was the instructor who met us at the shop, went over the plan (very flexible with our busy schedule) and powered through the pool dives. Our son really enjoyed Vaughn. Great demeanor for kids - engaging, funny and very knowledgeable. For the open water dives, we headed to Catalina during the week when crowds were very light on Vaughn's recommendation. Vaughn has a "standard plan" but told us he was open to however we wanted to do it. We went with his plan and it worked out well. His standard plan is dive focused. If you want posh accommodations, that's an option, but if you want to be efficient and focus on diving, just follow his plan. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the experience. Our boys loved hanging out with "Uncle Vaughn" and now the first of our dive-groms is certified. We'll be back later in the year when our 9 year-old turns 10 to do it again! read more

I was not aware of this place until very recently. I used to drive up to Culver City area for my diving needs. I am glad to find it in my neighborhood. They are in the middle of construction/expansion (which I could not find an entrance or the shop location easily, ha) and also annual sale. I walked in to browse a new diving torch - Bob was very knowledgeable and most importantly patient enough to show me different options. Thanks to his assistance, I was finally able to make my decision and got something I'd enjoy. Not sure how long their sale lasts, but I know for sure I will be back again. read more

I love their service but I would like to inform you that I bought Body Glove wet suit from them 2 months ago for my husband. It tear apart suddenly. He took it to them for replace but they offered him to repair the wetsuit and %40 off for the next purchase. I wish they could have replace the wetsuit with the new one cuz he only used 3 times and he used properly. Anyway, I dont recommend Body Glove brand for those who are looking for wetsuits. I really like most all of people that work there, and I plan on getting my certification done there, however, I do not recommend the sales representative Alex. It's a shame I can't give them the whole 5 stars. While Alex was very informative (and educating someone is a difficult task) I have never seen someone so lacking in enthusiasm for their customers in the South Bay Area. Especially when your return customers can easily be spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars at your store. -To be fair, Alex was more informatively helpful, in that the other associates simply referred all of the complicated information/questions over to her- However, the equipment is not any more complicated than being able to generally understand the basic operation of all of the different parts on a bicycle. Actually it's even more simpler than that, so I'm sure any one of the associates could have explained everything and yet they left the task to this one employee so, I appreciate the help I got, but personally I felt very either judged or otherwise disliked by the employee and I found that very unprofessional. Alex was talking too quickly and I tried to repeatedly explain to her that this was the first time in my life that I was physically going to a scuba shop and buying anything so, I do not understand why I was made to feel like I was wasting her time and being a bother when I was doing nothing except politely inquiring about the $400 I was going to spend right then. There's just a total feeling of apathy coming from her and I can only hope and pray that I wasn't being discriminated against and that Alex is equally ambivalent with all of her customers. Never once did Alex show a smile, and it's well known that being friendly (or at least being relatively cordial) is a part of doing business in retail. If you can't make any kind of small talk or care to show some compassion for your customers, you basically deserve for Amazon to take over your business imo b/c there's no point in having a community when no one's really cares about each other. I only ended up buying the $400 worth of basic stuff because most of the other employees are cool and I like to see a long established scuba place in Redondo. read more

Besides always buying my gear here, I was scuba certified here as well. Colleen is an amazing teacher that took me from a newbie to a diving addict. I continue to return for my additional certifications and have been on many Dive n' Surf dive trips as well. Once you get certified here, it's almost like being part of a big family, There are always fun dive meetings, trips, etc. if you choose to partake. You can't really ask for better service than you'll get here. Tony and Shirley are always great for helping you with your gear and accessories. Everyone here is knowledgeable, friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have. They'll also keep you alive underwater! read more

We've used Dive 'n Surf for many years to service our regulators, and have always been satisfied with their work. Unfortunately, when we picked up my regulator today, the price they charged us was $194, as compared with the $125 they quoted us. Naturally, I had no choice but to pay this to get my reg back, but being hit with a price that was more than 50% OVER what was quoted truly shocked me! Note that we were never advised that the charge would exceed the estimate -- not even when they called to say that the reg was ready for pickup. Needless to say, I'll take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

A dive shop is not a dive shop! I started my PADI scuba certification with another shop (trying to score a deal through Groupon, whoops). Unfortunately for me, I failed to complete the open water portions with them- due to a few reasons I'll detail below. My luck turned though as soon as I signed up with Dive N Surf to get things finished. I'm so glad I did. My experience with the other shop during the open water dives was very unpleasant. I'm not one to quit things that I start, and after quitting on my first beach dive I was really frustrated and didn't think diving was for me. After trying again with Dive N Surf, I realized the 1) the shop and 2) instructor you go with make ALL OF THE DIFFERENCE! 1) The equipment I rented from Dive N Surf was FAR superior to what was provided to me from the other shop. The wetsuit was great quality, fit me perfect, and I was not cold at all in the So Cal water (I was freezing during my first try). Another difference through the other shop was the stone age weight belt I had to wear; it literally dug into my hips to the point of bruising. This shop did not have me wear this belt during the pool session and I was surprised when they made me wear it for the open water. Not with Dive N Surf though! They have the weights integrated into the BCD vest for both pool and open water sessions. The two shops had comparable prices for the classes and rentals, and the first shop I went to even made you BUY a good amount of gear to continue the dives with them. I didn't have to commit to any gear purchases with Dive N Surf, although I plan on purchasing from them in the future now. 2) The instructor Dive N Surf set me up with (Vaughn Allen), truly made the experience memorable and enjoyable. You can tell he has a passion for teaching others, not just trying to make money while doing a hobby. The instructors I previously went through were super friendly, but extremely laid back and disorganized. I remember having a hard time getting responses from them, and their paperwork organization left a lot to be desired. Vaughn was extremely responsive via email, text, and phone...all of which were needed to coordinate with my busy schedule. He was on top of getting the dives logged and entering in my certification ASAP. Great culture, great service, and a great experience all around. If you're considering learning how to dive, go to this shop and ask for Vaughn! read more

I live in the South Bay and been here a couple times. Overall it's a very nice looking shop and that's about it. For dive gear it's really subpar. Wetsuit selection is limited to essentially Body Glove which are generic run of the mill and cookie cutter. Regulator choice is limited to at most 6 models. Essentially it caters more to surfing then it does scuba diving. read more

I got my wetsuit and complete water gear from here. They have everything. You don't have to go anywhere else. I fell in love with my bodyglove wetsuit as soon as I put it on. They were very helpful finding everything and fitting and setting up my gear, etc. now I am equipped with a wetsuit, bodyboard and its accessories, and I am ready to walk out to the beach anytime. Horrible place over all. Paid $510 to get my brother certified here. About twice the price of other dive shops. I figured they would have their stuff together because they charged so much more. This is not the case. This place is a total shit show. We didn't even have an instructor and they didn't call us. He flew from Colorado to get certified they didn't even call us and tell us that the class was canceled. I was able to find my own instructor and they would only refund us $125 out of the $510. This place was probably a great place 50 years ago, but the current owners are space cadets. Don't waste your time here. read more

I've been going here for a long time. They have great sales here where everything can be 20% off except surfboards. The clothing selection is very good. They have an excellent selection of body boards and swim fins. The surfboard selection isn't great and the staff doesn't really know much about surfing if your are average or better at surfing and need a new board. They have great stuff for the beginner surfer looking for a new board or wet suit. The wet suits are Body Glove (which is their brand) and these are best purchased when on sale. These wet suits are pretty good for the price but don't have all the latest innovations like Xcel or Rip Curl or O Neil or Patagonia wet suits. Definitely go here when there is a sale! read more

I want to give a shout out to Tony and the boat crew for taking good care of my family when we came out for the Xmas holiday to do some lobster diving. We set everything up via phone and e-mail and it went off without a hitch on arrival. It took some time to setup, but we were prepared for that, as a couple people needed gear rentals, and we all needed to sign up for our license and lobster report cards. When it was time to dive (we did a night session) the boat crew was helpful and provided some snackies. This was my first ocean night dive but they did a good job of explaining what to expect and look out for each dive. We did 2 dives, I skipped the 2nd one and was glad I did when I saw how surge-y it was off the break wall and no one came back with lobsters! The pickings weren't great overall, but that's to be expected when we come late in the season. We were staying in a hotel nearby so we came back the next morning for some Xmas shopping. They have a great selection of everything from clothes to bathing suits, wet suits, dive gear and surf boards in the back. Some trinket stuff up front. I bought myself a Dive n Surf shirt and a Billabong cardigan thing, plus a shirt for my dad and a stained glass clown fish for my mom. 20% (I think) discount for my military bro. Since I don't live in the area I'm not sure if I'll get the chance to make it back :( But I hope my review will help someone. I highly highly recommend their dive operation! read more

Wow!....my experience with this dive shop and specifically Sabrina was 2nd to none. Visiting from Michigan not knowing much about diving in the Huntington Beach area my questions and logistics were easily planned. The dive out to the oil rigs offshore and scallop hunting was an exciting adventure. Several of the dive-n-surf team members also made for great conversations and new friendships.The day also provided opportunity to view several blue whales breaching the surface around the boat during our surface intervals. First time I went to dive and surf was during their huge sale. I wanted to sign up for an open water dive certification class and get a wetsuit. Everyone was incredibly knowledgable and patient with me and my questions. Got a great deal on a wetsuit and other class necessities! Last week I got certified at Dive & Surf by Colleen! Going in I was definitely nervous about diving in the ocean. Once Colleen got me in the pool and we started going over all necessary skills I felt way more comfortable with the equipment. For the four certification dives our class took the ferry to Catalina Island to dive at Casino Point. Colleen and Dylan, our instructor and dive masters, walked us through the required water skills and what we would be doing once in the water. I felt confident in the skills Colleen had taught us in the pool. If anyone ever needed help in the water Dylan was there to assist while Colleen went through our skills. Extremely surprised how confident I felt after the first two dives. Can't say enough about how amazing Colleen and Dylan are as teachers. Definitely recommend signing up for a certification with Colleen. I had an incredible time and can't wait to go diving again! read more

My husband has been getting in to diving and surfing (get it?) so I went here to buy him a nice diving suit for his birthday. The guy who helped me was really super nice and informative. I was expecting to spend around $300 - $400 because I've read you get what you pay for in diving gear. The nice man found me a suit that was $360ish on sale for $299. Awesome! I had the husband come in and try it on and it was a great success! Husband happy, me happy! We also come here every time they have their sale in February. They have great deals on sandals, shoes, shirts swim suits, surf boards, boogie boards, diving gear... all kinds of shit... Dive N Surf is great all in all. I'm not a surfer, nor do I look like one. I went in to purchase a wet suit for my husband. We spent an hour and a half looking at wet suits and the employee didn't leave my side for a minute. He had an answer to every question, and explained in detail everything I wanted (or didn't want) to know about wet suits. I didn't feel like a un-cool loser being in there, not knowing what I was doing. Great Customer Service!! Two thumbs up. I am heading to Dive N Surf for everything now. This has to be the best surf board rental spot ever!!! I wanted to take two of my friends surfing who had never been. They wanted the complete experience with the wetsuit and all. The prices here are amazing. $15/day wetsuit and $45/day surf board rental or you can rent them by the hour for $15/hr. Cory was great with getting the guys suited with the proper wetsuit and boards. Tom came later and helped us get the boards attached to the car so we can head out to the beach. He told me the best places to teach new surfer and he was right. After our day out on the water, rental returns were easy. We all were given information on wetsuits and board care so that they last long when in the event we were ready to purchase our own. Definitely coming back for all my surfing need in Redondo. read more

Just completed their open water dive certification class. Was BLOWN AWAY by the service, experience, and total package. The pool classes were held at Bob Meistrell's house due to construction, and was such a cool personal touch. Had three instructors for a class of six. Amazing supervision. Initially expensive, with all the equipment and classes, but definitely worth it in the end. Good quality gear as well, AND we got two coupons for gear rental in the future. Would recommend this class without hesitation to anyone interested in learning to scuba dive. read more

This is the place to go to for all your scuba needs - certification, rental equipment, purchasing equipment, servicing equipment, etc. They have a great certification program with fantastic staff. There's a 12ft deep pool on site where you do basic scuba skills before going out into the ocean. This is pretty rare and it extremely convenient. There's a classroom on site too. Depending on your classmates preferences (the whole group decides), you can do the open water part in Redondo at veterans park or in Catalina. My group went to Catalina and stayed the weekend. We did our first three dives Saturday and stayed overnight & did the last one Sunday morning. Some classes opt to do the Saturday dives in Catalina and come home, and then do the Sunday dive in Redondo. Just depends on the weather and on the class. The rental shop here is great, the rental equipment is super nice and easy to use. Our group had a divemaster accompany us to Catalina which was great. We had a larger class, and I felt completely safe and looked after the whole time. The retail store is loaded with goodies at great prices - watch for the annual sale, the deals are so good it's almost like you walk away with free stuff! A great selection in a really nice store, very pleasant to be in and extremely well maintained. The staff is very knowledgeable about all the equipment and options. Dive n surf really is a community place with a community vibe. Can't say enough good things about my instructor, Colleen, and our divemaster Dylan and our divemaster-in-training Scott. I like this place a lot, i went in there to buy a rash guard and i wasnt disappointed, they had a lot of diving gear and pretty much anything and everything to do with water and the ocean. they had a small selection of clothing too, but i have to give them props for the amount of rash guards they sold. i went to several different places, the usual, sports chalet, sports authority and dive n surf had the most selection and the prices were a little cheaper there too. i found the rash guard i wanted but it had make up stains, so i asked the sales person if they had any more sizes. unfortunately they didnt but she did give me a 25% discount if i took it. lol who could beat that! the make up stains washed right off with some soap, so i cant complain. the people were really nice, and i'm going to go there again if i need anything! thanks dive n surf! read more

We shop at Dive N' Surf pretty frequently for a variety of things they sell; we've purchased surf boards, sunscreen, wetsuits etc here and always have a great experience. Today we stopped in for new sunglasses and as always, experienced fantastic customer service as Thomas helped us out while we tried on an obnoxious amount of sunglasses until we both found the perfect pairs. Need equipment to snorkel, surf, body board this is the place. I am not cautious with my equipment when I travel I strap fins to my backbag and go. I would rather pay for a quality than buy something that after 3 uses shows wear and tear. My gear needs to handle my way of life not the other way around.
