    Tuna tataki
    Melissa L.

Was invited to a private dinner here for a group of 20. Our host had a menu prepared for our group and we were able to try a bit of everything. There was not a private dining room, so the dinner was held at a long table in the open restaurant. Thus, a bit loud and impossible to hear people on the other end of our long table. Wines: D.O. Rioja: monologo crianza D.O. Ribera del Duero: El Guijarral D.O. Rueda: LaSeca 100% verdejo Appetizer: Gyoza Entrees: Grilled octopus toasted coca bread Chicken & cheese quesadillas Fried eggplant Main course: White tuna tataki w/citrus sesame dressing over jazmin rice* *my favorite dish of the evening; very glad I ordered Desserts: lemon cream w/fresh strawberries homemade double chocolate tart baked cheesecake w/red berries coulis Modern & international cuisine for everyone's palate. Plus, servers were able to keep up with our large group. A good choice for a group dinner.

Located in Chueca-- a gay-happy area of Madrid; The Chelsea of Madrid, if you will. *snap*snap* The area is fabulous. The people are fabulous. The shopping around here (I regret not getting these 60 Euro shoes I fell in love with) is fabulous. Well, you get it-- FABULOUS! And Diurno is no different. The host, this fabulous man, approached me and my friends and explained to us that the owner visited NYC often and tried to replicate the NYC vibe with this place. Oh great, just what I need-- being a New Yorker eating at a "NYC" place while in Madrid. LAME. But I loved it. I don't think it was very NYC at all-- it's a DVD/Game rental and a restaurant for goodness sake! But it served good food, though you have to order it in an odd way. You grab prepackaged items (they pack in-house) and they heat it up for you, deliver it to your table along with any drinks you order. They serve alcoholic beverages. Needless to say, my friends and I ordered some. I order two caipirinhas. They were AWESOME! I have yet to find better--- maybe in Brazil? Definitely not here in NYC though. EVEN at Brazilian restaurants. And I think they use raw sugar-- it was brown and coarse AND quite delicioso! So was the food. I had a pesto pasta and I thoroughly enjoyed it. After this and two caipirinhas I was buzzed and ready to enjoy the FABULOUSNESS that is Chueca!

Not so much was open on the 1st of January when we were wandering around the gay neighborhood of Madrid. Diurno was open though so we entered for a light tapas lunch. The tapas were a little pricy but not bad. Our favorite was definitely the grilled octopus which we had to order another of since it was so yummy. Coming up in second place were the ham croquettes which we also got more of. The spinach salad was good but nothing so special; we were in the mood for something healthy. The guacamole was okay but the avocado wasn't ripe so it could have been better. The atmosphere in Diurno is nice and also includes a corner selling books/DVDs. It was a good spot for lunch but probably not worth it to go out of your way to get here.

Well I had high hopes as this location offered early reservation times, accommodated English speaking, was in a hip shopping and dining area, and looked interesting from first appearance. In fact all that's true and even inside it is somewhat compelling but the food just doesn't deliver and the price point isn't commensurate by any means. Much better and more creative cuisine is elsewhere nearby so if that's critical for you then carry on. If you're seeking a decent meal with cocktails and a movie rental to go this is the place for you - yes, for some odd reason they have a movie rental section! Only other perk here is the "to go" food options. Unfortunately they're far from accompanying, thus the reduced rating. More than a half dozen requests that were simple weren't even considered and either poor management is the cause or limited kitchen skills. Either way, not good for me.

North Atlantic white tuna tartar with salmon roe.

By combining international flavors with quality ingredients, along with a team whose backgrounds are as varied as the cuisine, Diurno has created a gastronomic experience that manifests passion, technique, and a commitment to quality cuisine. A modern restaurant in the Chueca neighborhood of Madrid, Diurno is a recommended spot for brunch, dinner, and cocktails. The first thing I noticed when I decided to try Diurno for lunch was how contemporary and stylish the restaurant design is. From neutral, earthy browns with pops of live greenery for color, to the mix of geometrical silhouettes in the spherical lighting, curved seated, and angular tables, Diurno is relaxed yet chic. And the service is even better. I was promptly attended to, welcomed, and invited to a table, where I decided upon North Atlantic white tuna tartar with salmon roe, served with avocado and curasao bread as a starter. I loved the freshness of the tuna and the roe, and the ripe avocado added a creamy texture. I wanted something lighter for a salad, and was delighted to find Quinoa salad with beetroot, red onions, coriander, feta cheese and seeds. A brilliant mix of bitter, sweet, and nutty, this salad is reason enough to return to Diurno. For my main course, the North Atlantic white tuna tataki with citrus-sesame dressing over jazmin rice proved to be a delicious choice. The blend of international flavors present in this dish is done so well, you gastronomically embark on a journey around the world. With how wonderful the rest of my meal was, I needed to try dessert. And I'm glad I did. The baked upside down apple pie with shortbread ice cream was warm and creamy, the cool ice cream topping off perfectly sweet apple filling. Diurno comes highly recommended by many of the local hotels, and I know why. Everything was outstanding.

Came here as the first stop in Madrid and right away was greeted with a smile and quickly sat down. Overall for the night the servers were all very quick and extremely friendly and helpful. Their service alone guarantees I return to their restaurant as soon as possible. The food did not stay behind! I ordered the linguine with shrimp which was absolutely delicious! My groups of friends also all loved their dishes as well. Their mojitos and juices were also great as well. The ambiance is dim lighting but lively with music playing and conversations all around you. Definitely recommend stopping by here for a bite.

When it was time for our reservation we were greeted and seated by a nice man who turned out to be the chef/owner himself, Marcos Gil. He went through each item on the menu with us and suggested wine pairings for our selections. We ordered the leeks, salmon, veal cheek, and venison, a daily special. They were all incredible! Each dish was not overly sophisticated and let the main component truly speak for itself. We could genuinely taste the craft and care that went into each dish. The dessert was no exception. Despite being a modest, unassuming restaurant, the space was intimate and inviting and the service was excellent along with the food. Worth more than any three-star Michelin meal any day.

StreetXO is Dabiz Muñoz in his most unbridled, borderline wacky mood…read more If DiverXO, the master restaurateur's three-star Michelin flagship, is the meticulously choreographed tasting menu with white-glove precision-- a culinary journey meets Alice in Wonderland-- then StreetXO is the same brain turned loose. A sort of rock 'n' roll meets 90's arcade meets "Big Trouble in Little China". It's louder. Faster. Beautifully messier. And all by ingenious intent. You don't just come here to eat. You come to get swept up and swept away by it all. The inertia is felt the moment one walks inside. The space is edgy and playful, like a grown-up video game that never grew out of its chaos. There's even a swing at the entrance for adults to sit in and take Instagram-worthy photos. My wife and I have, twice. Indeed, there are other options. One might partake of gentler balcony offerings, or tuck into one of many inside nooks in the ample lounge-bar area. But if you want the full StreetXO shenanigans-- heat on your face, hisses of searing pans, perfume of spice and smoke in the air, the full-force theatre of it all-- then plant yourself at the monster octagonal counter. Mirrors line the salon wherein patrons dine, so that everything and everyone can be caught munching, savoring, swigging, laughing, and relishing as if in one big, faceted, reflective stage. An open, inviting kitchen isn't just a floor-plan design. It's a deliberate showcasing of a culinary orchestra at the top of its game. Every movement is in synchronicity, firing out plates with a speed resembling chaos until the beholder realizes it's more like choreography. StreetXO's soundtrack is part of the engine. Music is loud-- thumping with a rotating mix of techno, EDM, and sizzling club beats that would never permit the room to settle. Sonic energy soars with a feverish tempo set by the kitchen. Fast hands ripping streams of tickets and flicking flamed-licked skillets. Bass-lines pound out rhythms as woks crackle and fire leaps from grills. Somehow it all seems perfectly synced: volume, velocity, and vibrancy. Epic dishes appear in front of mesmerized diners as if teleported by magic. The bar is lively, even frenetic. Yet it is an entertaining vibe. Chefs move with haste and purpose, never stopping, never drifting. Flames rise and fall in a sort of hypnotic dance. Smoke curls up and disappears. Oils shimmer in coppery pans. Every station feels alive, like the whole place is a bundle of kinetic pulses refusing to die down. A lead chef in all-black cooking attire anchors the momentum. Around him, staff in mint-white coats navigate through crowds with deft and focus as part server, part air-traffic controller. Plates glide in and out, darting like fragile doves through a storm. And over everything, you hear it again and again: "Voy, voy." It's the kitchen's heartbeat, "coming through", in a never-ending relay. Then you start noticing the precision lurking within all that speed. A tray of perfect seasonings arrives briskly. Bowls and plates are finished with remarkable acuity. No casual splashes, no guesswork. The runner in white handles each plate with steady grace in the middle of mayhem. And the tray is gone before one fully processes what one has just witnessed. Food is alluring, loud, colorful and flavorful-- unapologetically bold, like StreetXO. Management doesn't want you to eat politely. It wants you lean in (with full force). Indulge with enthusiasm. Use your hands. Embrace the messy joys. Duck Dumplings are the perfect example. They are presented on paper placemats, clearly meant to be eaten with fingers. It's a good form of primal. Crispy, crunchy outside. Soft, buttery inside. So delicious it resets your expectations mid-bite. Crab dishes are standouts, too. They disappear faster than planned because every forkful dares another. And then there are the Short Ribs. The mantelpiece. Forty-eight hours of slow heat make it deep, rich, and comforting in a way that feels unfair to everything else on the menu. While StreetXO moves at warp-speed, this delectable delight doesn't rush for anything. It's the star of stars. Even the drinks match Street XO's attitude. One smoky cocktail in particular stands above the rest. Smoke up front, with hints of cherry underneath. It is emboldened and dramatic. Yet curiously balanced and nuanced. The Nam Phrik brings a sharp, spicy-orange hit at the top that awakens everything else. By the time the meal ends, one is satiated, but also buzzing. It's as if you earned a siesta but don't want to take it. You want to keep indulging your senses. That's StreetXO. The cerebral, sophisticated DiverXO's more streetwise sibling. It's not for the timid. It isn't high-concept. It's high octane. Street XO is Madrid's knee-jerk response to full-contact lunch or dinner. And it is as much a spectacle as it is spectacular!

Spain, famously, runs late. Dinner isn't dinner until 9:00 PM, minimum. And the party? It doesn't even warm up until midnight. So there we were, wandering the city streets at 10-ish, already two drinks in, hungry for adventure--and just slightly off-sync with the nightlife rhythm. Phones in hand, we played the usual game: app-hop, review-skim, vibe-check. We tried a few spots--each either too quiet or clearly recovering from last night's chaos. Three attempts in, the group hit a wall: tired, tipsy, and borderline feisty. But something told us to keep going. That's when my wingman and I backtracked--past a velvet rope we'd passed earlier. Two sharply dressed bouncers stood outside a low-profile building. No flashing signs. No loud crowd. Just posture and presence. A place that invests in the right doormen, I figured, probably gets a lot of other details right, too. We approached. A nod. A door opens. Then another. And just like that, the mood shifted. We walked into a full-blown production--music pounding, the bar staff moving like choreography, strangers dancing like best friends. It felt like a scene from a high-budget musical... except we weren't watching it. We were in it. We looked at each other and grinned like idiots. We'd found it. That thing travelers chase but rarely catch: a spontaneous, untamed, perfect night. Suddenly the questions came flooding in: Why didn't we come here sooner? How did we almost miss this? Why were there so many beautiful people here? But we didn't stay in question mode for long. We dove in--drinking, dancing, flirting, laughing. The energy was electric. The connection, effortless. Sadly, we only had an hour before closing. But we made it count. And as we spilled out into the night, breathless and buzzing, we asked the most important question of all: "When are we coming back?" This place? It's more than a bar--it's a movement. I've since seen videos of Karol G making an appearance, and heard rumors they're opening new locations. Whoever's behind this? Congratulations. You've found a way to bottle Mexico's best party energy and ship it across the globe. We'll be back. Next time, earlier--and ready.
