I love everything about District Pilates! I have had several of the instructors now and every single one is wonderful in their own way. I have never been one to commit to working out steadily, but I find myself excited to go to class. Addicted for sure. read more

Great studio, in a wonderful location. Supportive staff, and very small classes.

Great studio. Just blocks from my house. Extremely challenging class. Bailey and staff are all great and make sure you enjoy your workout and challenge yourself. Price is also great compared to other studios in the area. read more

Amazing gem of a studio in Shaw! Super cool location- (with Sundevich right next door- yum) I had Julia and Bailey as my teachers and they were both wonderful! The workout was challenging but manageable- Bailey asked us what we wanted to focus on- (the class picked obliques) my abs were burning- as were my obliques! They incorporate the chair, ladder, and reformer all into a 55 minute workout that certainly woke me up and I left feeling great and ready to start my day. There's plenty of parking and several pricing options for beginners/ first time clients. I will definitely be back! read more

I'd been taking Pilates mat classes for the last three years but had yet to venture onto Pilates on the reformer. I started earlier this year with classes taught by Katherine and am now a convert! I've always struggled with pain in my lower back and tight hamstrings while doing mat classes or yoga but this has done wonders to stretch them out and to take pressure off my back. This is also the first time I've ever seen results in my body after years of doing mat classes. The studio is beautiful, the class sizes are small enough that you get individual attention, you feel like you are part of a community and the music they play is fantastic. No class is ever the same, which is a huge plus considering some of the other fitness studios often go through the same types of exercises and routines week after week. I love the neighborhood and location and encourage anyone who loves practicing Pilates to take a class here. Highly recommend! Great way to get lean, toned and stretched out for the summer. read more

I run, I play tennis, I lift, and I take or have taken other classes elsewhere (mat pilates, barre, yoga, etc.). District Pilates is the only place where I feel like I always get my money's worth. More importantly, the instructors know my limitations and they know my goals, and have helped strengthen my core and increase my flexibility better than any other classes/activities. And you don't have to be some crazy tri-athlete/bionic person to make it happen. The studio itself is small, with 6 machines. This gets you more individualized attention. But you do need to book early. The instructors are low-key and very welcoming. You can't go wrong with any of the instructors, but I am a particular fan of Richon, Dorian and Katherine. They are three super nice ladies, but they will work. you. out. like. it. is. nobody's. business. read more

District Pilates is my favorite type of workout studio, one I've had trouble finding in any other city but D.C. The space is clean, and calming. The teachers are professional and knowledgeable, but also kind. At DP, you'll push yourself during the workout, but leave feeling positive and energized. I had never done reformer pilates before DP. Initially, I was intimidated! The instructor I had, Rishon, made sure that I always felt comfortable. I've been back around 6 times since. She has taught me breathing techniques that have made me more comfortable in a bunch of my workouts. Before, I thought pilates seemed too complicated for me; DP taught me it can work for anyone. read more

This is my favorite Pilates studio in the city. I love the instructors, it's really challenging (and Bailey always remembers how much weight you can handle!), and it's a fun and colorful studio. read more

My very first reformer pilates class was with Bailey 2 years ago. The workouts are tough and and the atmosphere is encouraging and super fun. Bailey has an art for pushing you to your personal limits without the stress. read more

I would give District Pilates six stars if I could! Bailey and Greg are both fantastic instructors. Classes are challenging and varied -- unlike some reformer classes, I don't regularly check the time and I can't predict what move is coming next. Bailey somehow manages to make class hard for those with a lot of Reformer experience but still easy to follow for those with next to none. My obliques were sore for four days after my last class! Don't worry if you have an injury or have (like me) terrible flexibility -- the exercises and resistance can easily be modified. read more

District Pilates is not only clean and cozy, but the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Class sizes aren't too large so you get the individual attention that you seek when taking a reformer class (while not paying private costs!) If you're looking for a studio to call home, look no further. read more

It is amazing how much better I feel after a pilates class, particularly with Bailey. She knows exactly how to run a class if I have injuries, feeling under the weather, or feeling great--no matter what I walk out of class feeling great. I've gone to a number of pilates studios, but the instructors here make it so I don't want to go to any other studios. read more

I took beginner (reformer) pilates with Dorian and I loved it. I definitely can't wait to come back. The class was challenging, without being overwhelmingly difficult. Dorian did a great job of explaining the different pilates moves and how to best transition into the next move. She moved around the class, correcting form and offered personalized attention. One of my favorite parts of the class was that Dorian's moves used the reformer throughout the entire class. It really bothers me when instructors at other studios instruct students to do matt pilates moves on top of the reformer. If I wanted to do matt pilates, I would have gone to a matt pilates class! read more

Bailey makes Pilates fun. As a teacher, she works with you, is always attentive to your current aches and pains, but still makes you work your butt, literally. You are not allowed to wimp out but don't worry, its worth it! In two years of taking classes with her and Greg, one of her fellow instructors - 2-3x a week - my body has changed for the better. I've got much more strength and tone. The classes are never the same and you'll find yourself surprised at what your body is capable of doing. Bottom line, worth every penny!! read more

District Pilates is the perfect spot for strengthening your core and stretching your entire body. I started doing reformer Pilates there a couple months ago and the difference in my body (and my attitude about my body) is awesome. I'm recovering from a severely herniated disc in my lower back and working it twice weekly at DP has been the perfect follow up to physical therapy. The pain is melting away and increasing my confidence in doing more activities that would normally tax my back. Each instructor is very encouraging and makes class fun in their own special way. They pay attention to your form and also check in on anyone recovering from injuries throughout the class. At DP, I feel challenged and supported, and I'm so thankful to have Greg and Bailey as a part of my weekly routine! read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about District Pilates. It is my favorite place for reformer Pilates in DC. Valentina is the most amazing instructor. The space is clean, the music is good, and I love the props. A great, organized, and creative studio! read more

UPDATE: Bailey just emailed me to thank me for the review, what an incredibly sweet gesture. I didn't think I could love this studio even more, but I do. It is these kind of gestures that makes a studio fabulous, it is clearly that they love what they do and provide great customer service. I finally got to meet Bailey and I can see why this little studio has so many loyal followers. So very glad that I was able to find this place! I LOVE DISTRICT PILATES! I went to my first class through classpass and it's the only studio where I will pay extra to take more classes each month. I've taken classes with several instructors and they are all great. Katherine is so very sweet, Greg leaves me feeling calm and refreshed each time, Valentina will kick your butt in the best possible way and Bailey provides the most unique moves. Everyone is welcoming and helpful and made sure that everyone was comfortable. All the instructors help set up your machine, adjusted the reformer so that you can focus on the exercises and helped clean the machines afterwards, so incredibly helpful. Each time I go I am challenged and it feels great knowing that each time that I go, I will get stronger and will learn something new. I am so glad that I found this studio! I am confident that no matter who you take a class with, you will be challenged and leave feeling accomplished. read more

I love District Pilates! The classes are great and I love how small they are. It's so rare to get such personalized attention and coaching in a gym in DC. I especially like Leah's classes. Her energy is great and her music is the best! She's really positive and keeps the class motivated and going strong. She's also good at making corrections in order to ensure that everyone's form is good. I can't say enough good things about her and DP overall! read more

I have been doing pilates for about 17 years now (with some large gaps in there). District Pilates is BY FAR the best studio I have tried. I go as often as my schedule allows and I love all of the instructors. I followed Bailey when she opened this studio, and she is amazing. The classes will kick your butt, but you will definitely laugh during the process. I cannot recommend this studio enough. I don't know what I would do if I ever had to move. read more

I've been going to District Pilates on and off since they opened and I love it there! All of their instructors are fantastic - especially Bailey, Julia, Greg, and Rishon - and classes are challenging but still engaging and fun. Would recommend District Pilates to anyone! read more

I have been taking classes at District Pilates for the past month and my mommy tummy is already disappearing! I had a baby last year and no amount of weight lifting, running or yoga was helping my saggy belly. Within 4 classes at District Pilates my stomach was getting tighter. I wish I had joined sooner! Valentina has great energy and Bailey has the class do moves that leave me sore for days. I am now a loyal member. read more

Bailey & Greg are great instructors. Their routines are always changing, so your body never gets the same workout, which really enables you to see results. I used to only do barre and run, but once I started pilates with them, I have seen my strength increase and body fat decrease - especially in my core. They are very aware of injuries and make accommodations and adjustments to make sure you are getting the safest workout possible. Best of all they are fun and engaging. The class flies by, even when you are doing multiple repetitions on chair. Great studio! read more

I tried District Pilates through ClassPass and loved Lydia's class so much that I bought some sessions directly from the studio. I'm relatively new to pilates (just took my first class a couple months ago) and Lydia does a great job making sure you have fun while getting a full-body workout. I especially love the jumpbox - it's such a fun way to get cardio. It's a haul for me to get to the studio, but I plan to keep going back because the classes are so good. read more

Bailey was attentive to each individual's preferences or injuries throughout the class. Positive and encouraging. Nice storefront location.

District Pilates is a phenomenal studio. I blame Bailey and her excellent cadre of instructors for my Pilates reformer addiction. Classes are challenging, creative, and relaxing, all at the same time. The studio is always warm and welcoming. Each instructor has a unique style, but all of them focus on proper form, play great music, and try to get to know their clients. It's truly a fantastic environment and community. read more

I've been to many pilates studios in DC, but District Pilates is BY FAR my favorite place! This is the only workout that I have ever looked forward to. I love that the classes are small, so you always get personalized attention. Bailey is fantastic! I always leave her classes feeling challenged, but also energized. All of the instructors are really great! The studio is clean and colorful. I highly recommend DP! read more

This is my favorite place for reformer Pilates. It is in a great location - the space itself is always very clean and the equipment is in excellent condition. Most importantly, the instructors are great here. They do a great job explaining the different moves so everyone's form is just right. Every time I have been there, I've gotten a great workout and the workouts have actually been fun (believe it or not!). The instructors keep it interesting and challenging. Five stars from me for District Pilates! read more

I haven't historically done Pilates but tried Bailey's class at my girlfriend's suggestion, and I really enjoyed it. I exercised and stretched muscles that I have definitely been neglecting, and I left feeling stretched out and invigorated. read more

Until District Pilates I had a tough time sticking to one Pilates studio, but I love so many of their instructors and, no matter what, I feel better when I leave after working out! There is always variety in the workouts and the environment is friendly and supportive. read more

I love DP! I have taken classes with almost every instructor, and they are all fantastic. I've been going to District Pilates for over a year and have really noticed a change in my strength and confidence (and waist line :) ). I love seeing the change in what I'm able to do and love having instructors that gently encourage me to try challenge myself. read more

District Pilates is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. Every class there is creative, challenging, and motivating. The instructors are well-trained in a contemporary style so that students never get bored. Most classes incorporate chair work and use a combination of chairs, boxes, rings, jumpboards weights and other fun props. Classes can be difficult to get into due to the small capacity, but are worth planning for! read more

As an avid gym-goer, I didn't know what to expect from District Pilates. Both the workout and Katherine my instructor were fantastic!

I love DP! All the instructors are great. The classes are challenging and fun. I've been to studios all over the country, and this is absolutely one of my favorites. I'm always guaranteed a great workout. read more

I am living in DC for a couple of months and wanted to keep up my twice a week Pilates practice. Found District Pilates after a google search and am very pleased. Bailey and Julia are great at offering just the right amount of challenge while always being mindful of my weak link - my lower back. I am a "mature" women and most of my fellow classmates are a lot younger than me, but the atmosphere is relaxed, fun and I feel like I've rocked it when "keeping up" is not an issue! Now that I know the neighborhood better, I see there are other studios closer to my home but still I am choosing to walk the mile back and forth. District Pilates is worth it! After only 6 weeks I feel quite loyal and thus my very first yelp review! I like the 12 hour cancellation policy and appreciate the email reminders. I love Pilates, feel so much stronger and can see some nice "sculpting" going on! Thank you Bailey, Julia and District Pilates!! read more

I could go on forever about how much I love District Pilates, and its owner Bailey, but I'll try to be brief. Bailey somehow manages to achieve the impossible as a Pilates instructor. She pays incredible attention to each person in class, coaching us individually on our form and advising us to do alternative exercises to avoid pre-existing injuries (a mental list of which she somehow keeps in her brain, for every regular customer). She gives clear and precise instructions for every exercise, but she shakes up the routine enough to keep things fresh and (very) challenging for everyone. She makes every class both very tough, and very fun. She creates a warm, inviting atmosphere and treats every client like a friend. I started taking Pilates more than four years ago with Bailey at another studio to deal with some minor injuries, and while those injuries are gone (thanks to Pilates!) I know I'll continue to take Pilates from Bailey for as long as she'll let me. If you're looking for a new way to challenge yourself physically, and have a lot of fun doing it, I urge you to check out District Pilates. You'll thank me! (PS Greg is AWESOME too; I just haven't taken many of his classes). read more

awesome studio and classes! modern machines and clean studio with great instructors.
