Amazing, delicious food, clean restaurant and super friendly staff! My husband and I come to District 5 multiple times a week to get their filet mignon shaken beef and rice vermicelli. Every time we get it it's consistently delicious! The filet mignon shaken beef is tender, juicy and flavorful. A great combo with the rice vermicelli and fish sauce. We also get their seafood pho that has mussels, scallops, squid, shrimp and a flavorful broth. Their lychee lemonade is the perfect balance of sour and sweet, definitely recommend. read more

Any type of full size Bahn mi sandwich is only $6. Six delicious fried chicken wings for $8. The most expensive thing on the menu is their bone soup bowl which is 18. So I avoid a restaurant in my home town that I can walk to because of its long lines, but then I go to Fam's Kitchen which is far away because it has almost the same menu? Even I don't get myself sometimes. If you come to Fam's Kitchen and feel half of the menu is eerily similar to Vox Kitchen (in Fountain Valley), you are probably not wrong because some dishes are similar. Why would I go to Fam's, when Vox is right by my house and Vox does things so well? Because the foodie in me was curious. Is it going to taste different? Is it going to taste the same? Saltado Shaken Fries w/ Filet Mignon and Garlic Noodle Upgrade - I do love this best of both worlds. The lomo saltado dish comes with white rice, but for $3 more you can sub in garlic noodles. They gave a very sizable portion of noodles that I could eat equally with the lomo saltado. The filet mignon pieces were cooked medium rare, tender and very flavorful. They were quick tossed with tomatoes, red onions and hot crispy fries so that the fries could absorb some of the glaze/sauce. They served it with a ramekin of aji sauce (a creamy Peruvian sauce of either serrano or jalapeno peppers, cilantro, mayo and lime juice. Fam's version of the aji sauce has a very spicy kick to it that might clear your nose at first. I had high standards in comparing this dish to other places' versions and I will say it impressed me. Would gladly come here again just to get this. Their menu is simple and there are other things I'd try if more people were with me... Popcorn chicken, Fried Chicken Wings, Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons, Stone Bowl Soup and Fried Rice. With most dishes you get pick your protein (extra charge). The restaurant is not that big, they have about eight tables that can seat four people each. The food is freshly made to order and came out quickly. New Asian fusion casual restaurants are starting to pop up in South County... I love it! read more

This place recently changed ownership and they updated the menu a bit. Their prices are much more reasonable now, which is awesome. I ordered a banh mi sandwich and it was great! My coworkers and I ordered together and it took a while so they ended up giving us two thai iced teas on the house. The Thai teas were very sweet but if you let the ice melt a bit it was just right. I tried some garlic noodles from my coworker and it wasn't quite as good as the original Fam's Kitchen recipe. The noodles tasted like linguini that I'd make at home and the garlicky flavor was much lighter. But their filet mignon is just as good and that's the important part. I still think this place is great, especially because their prices are more reasonable now. read more

They forgot to turn on their open sign so we almost thought they were closed when it was noon. This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood I recommend you guys try they have a very very small menu but I loved the garlic noodles and the stone bowl soup! Fan of the Fam's! My favorite Asian spot to noms in Lake Forest. My go to order is the Fam Combo with filet mignon, substitute rice with garlic noodles. The dish comes with a nice mayo/jalapeno/cilantro dip for your meat, along with a generous portion of spring mix. The meat is always so SOFT and JUICY and has a great spice kick with the dip! Their salmon version is delicious as well, with crispy outside. Garlic noodles have fantastic flavor to compliment the protein. Stone Noodle Soup is perfect for colder months. Small restaurant, with about five 4-people seat tables and two 2-people seat tables, good for smaller parties and casual catch-up hangout. Each time I went (for about a year) it was not crowded and/or empty, quiet space, and service is consistently ok.. need to wave to grab attention and order or get water refill, adequate in that they provide bare minimum and food comes out fast but skips smiles/warm greetings/welcomes with nonchalant or apathetic mood - that's alright though, staffing changes, and most times I'm here for the delicious food and leave quickly, in and out. I used to order from Fams frequently for the garlic noodles unlit they closed temporarily. I found out they opened again so I decided my usual garlic noodles, but this time there were hardly any noodles , instead it was stuffed with a bunch of lettuce, onions and peppers. Fam's Kitchen has been on my yelp bookmarks as a work lunch spot for such a long time now, and I finally had the chance to try it. I ordered the saltado shaken fries with filet mignon ($20) and garlic noodles ($3 upgrade). The saltado was delicious and tasted very similar to the dish if you ordered it from a Peruvian restaurant! The garlic noodles, while delicious, were not super impressive and I don't think I would pay for the $3 upgrade next time. This might be because I make garlic noodles at home all the time, but I've also had better garlic noodles at the other Asian Fusion restaurants in OC that have this same dish on their menus. Many people are saying this place is pricey -- while the food definitely isn't cheap, it is actually very standard for the cost of this dish at any other restaurant. They give an enormous portion of food, enough for two people, so I actually think it's worth the money! I took the rest of my food to go, and I was bit disappointed because they charged me 25 cents for an extra sauce. I don't know if this is because the sauce was to-go, but for a $23 meal I would hope that I could get another sauce for free. I understand that the sauce was very cheap at 25 cents, but I feel like it's just the notion of paying for an extra sauce when I already payed for a pricey meal that made me a bit disappointed. The service was friendly and food took about 7 minutes to come out, which was nice since I was just on a lunch break. The ambiance is very casual and the restaurant itself is small -- there's not very many tables and the biggest tables only seat 4 people, so I wouldn't bring a big family here. I would also suggest eating in rather than ordering take out, because lomo saltado tastes best when its freshly made! You want those fries nice and crispy. Lastly, I highly suggest to the restaurant to eliminate the foam cups for water. Foam is so bad for the environment, and since I was eating in the restaurant it just didn't make sense to give foam cups instead of glass ones. If you want to prevent dishwashing, I'd suggest to at least purchase compostable cups! You'd be doing a great service to the environment :) Overall, it was a great restaurant and I will definitely be coming back to try the other dishes on their menu! read more

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it's super close to work! Their menu had so many good options it was seriously hard to choose. But, I ended up deciding on the garlic noods with bone in short rib. The garlic noodles were good - not as greasy as you'd expect. The meat on the short ribs seemed to be a little over done, but overall it was really good + it was a good amount of food. I did feel their service was a bit slower than I'd like. It took about 20+ minutes after I'd place my order for the food to come out. It wasn't busy inside the restaurant - only 2 other tables. Maybe a good idea to order to go ahead of time in the future. But definitely interested in trying more of their menu items. The reason I deducted one star from my rating is mainly due to parking. At lunch time, it can be hard to find parking as the parking lot is super tiny and it has to tend to other shop owners as well within that plaza. I am traveling from Northern California and this restaurant is nearby the hotel I stay in. I'm so glad I found it on Yelp! There's always something here to satisfy my craving for truly authentic Asian food. The menu is a delightful mix of Vietnamese, Cantonese, and South Korean cuisine. What first drew me here was the picture of Short Ribs Stone Bowl Soup I saw on Yelp. Mom and pop owned and operated, Fam's appears to have taken over for a previous restaurant as the Yelp page is the same but previous pictures shows a very different menu/interior. Nevertheless, the food options are good and they are eager to accommodate any changes you'd like. I ordered the pork chop rice dish and the combo bun noodles dish that amazingly had pork, chicken, shrimp and egg rolls all in the same dish. I was offered the choice of rice or noodles so I ordered both versions. I also got a large order of fried egg rolls. I was in a hurry so I got everything to go. The owner gave me a to-go cup of lemon water to drink while I waited for my food. That was really nice. The restaurant is clean but sparse. TVs on the wall to give you something to pass the time but there was nobody else in the place when I went, sadly. All the food was delicious when I tried it after getting home. My family and I love coming here because the owners are always so nice and welcoming and the food is fantastic!My personal favorite is the stone pot with beef ribs when I dine in. My husband loves their chicken wings particularly the lemon pepper and garlic Parmesan. We also ordered party trays of chicken wings, egg rolls, banh mi and fried rice for Mother's Day and our son's first birthday. Both times were absolutely delicious! I ordered 3 things: House Garlic Noodles with Mushroom, Popcorn Chicken and Spicy Wontons. Happened to be nearby and did a quick Yelp search for decent places for an early casual dinner, and this place popped up......4-1/2 stars too. This place is a small, casual, and interesting little spot for some Asian fusion comfort food. The strangest thing was finding fries on the menu, but hey, someone may have that craving, so why not. We came for a pretty early dinner.....around 4pm....we were the only ones in there, so we pretty much got sit where we wanted. Firstly, we ordered the Skinny Crispy Fries with Truffle Oil, the House Garlic Noodles with Salmon and a fried egg on top, the Stone Bowl Soup Bone-in Short Ribs with Glass Noodles, and an order of the Spicy Noodles with Shrimp. Yea, that was quite a lot of food for the two of us, but it all sounded so good, so worst case, we doggie bagged our food. French fries and Asian noodles? Hmmm, ok....it was a comfort food craving kind of time of the day, so we went with it. The fries were hot, fresh, and crisp, but we didn't taste a lot of truffle oil....I asked the server if this was really truffle oil fries and she confirmed that it was.....hmmm, the fries were good, but it needed more truffle oil flavor. My wife had the short rib with glass noodle soup, and she said it was good....she enjoyed it. I ordered the garlic noodles with salmon and fried egg, and it wasn't bad at all.....the noodles were good..... but could have had more garlic flavor to it.....the salmon was good....nice and moist. As for the spicy noodles with shrimp.....this was my wife's order, but I ended up eating most of the noodles.....I actually enjoyed the spicy noodles more.....they were the finer egg noodles.....used for making wonton noodles.....and it had just the right spiciness and flavor....yummy. District 5 - Today's lunch special - Noodles Near Me - Lake Forest, California

This little restaurant, located in a small strip mall, is one of those places that can easily go unnoticed. Their sign calls it "Asian Fusion" and I guess that's more or less correct. I sat at one of the half dozen tables inside the place and ordered their take on the Peruvian dish, lomo saltado. The dish is listed as "Shaken Fries" (fries with tomato and onion) which you can add on various other ingredients. Add some filet mignon and you have their spin on lomo saltado. A choice of rice or noodles was given and I chose the former, mainly to keep it close to traditional lomo. The table next to me ordered the same thing but with an egg on top of the rice which made me wish I'd done the same. It's definitely a "fries" dish, composed mostly of potatoes with 4 or 5 chunks of tomato and onion and only a few pieces of filet mignon. I noticed many past photos on yelp seem to show much more beef and far less fries than were piled onto my plate. Seems the proportions are inconsistent. The filet mignon was incredibly melt-in-your-mouth tender but lacked seasoning or any flavor. The tomato and onion had a smokey taste but not the filet mignon. Peruvian lomo saltado is cooked in a wok, stir fried with a soy sauce mixture, but my plate had no evidence of any sauce so unsure how everything was prepared. A small side dish containing what tasted to me like a spicy tartar sauce, which I'm guessing is their take on aji sauce, was used to give the beef some flavor. I admit the multitude of fries had a delicious glaze and were not at all oily; I really enjoyed them. My beverage choice, Thai iced tea, was good but half of the small cup was ice. You'd be better off to order a bottled drink. Prices seemed on the high side, service was adequate but impersonal, and while I enjoyed my meal I was simultaneously disappointed.
