Dish service could be awesome but the technology they use is not very polished. Coming from cable tv and the TiVo experience I thought that Dish and the Hopper would really shine but the Hopper can not really do anything on it own and it's very unstable and the user interface is like a TiVo ist generation. It needs a wireless extender plugged into it to talk to it wireless "Joey" (the hopper equivalent of a TiVo Mini) and it needs a streaming device plugged into as well to achieve it complete streaming experience. This should all be part of the DVR (Hopper). One unit not 3 separate units. It would be a good idea for Dish engineers to sit down with a TiVo edge and get familiar with the user interface. It is generations ahead of Hopper. The Hopper could easily surpass the Edge in capabilities if the engineers actually stepped it up a notch. Now for the stability issues. The Hopper does not handle the tasks it is already tasked to do without locking up, temporary software freezes, and blank screens. When you talk to support it always power down power up. This doesn't do anything but waste your time. Now I like Dish service so far because what they offer is fairly priced and the features are awesome but they need to step up the quality of the product and it functionality. C'mon Dish!! Act like you want to be relevant now and in the future. It is not enough to just make a sale. You want a repeat customer who be so happy with your service that they become a Frontline sale rep to the people they come in contact with. You are not selling one contract to a single customer but rather to a potential pyramid of customers. read more

My mother died on November 9 , dlsh was notified that we were going to need to cancel the service .It is now February and I am still dealing with them . Last week I thought I was done , they mailed me a box to ship their equipment back , it did not contain a return shipping label . Their solution was to send me a new box to the house I am moving from today and inconvenience the homes new owner . I would give them '0' if I could. I switched to them 2 years ago because I was frustrated with Direct TV raising my bill. I was satisfied until last month they sent a notice they were raising my bill by $20.00 per month. You have to wait on hold for an hour or more. Talked with three different people three different times before the representative said "I will help get you a better price." She said she could get it down almost $15 per month for a year with an $18 discount the first month. I had to sign a year year contract. Hesitantly, I said "ok". A week later, I received an electronic message for my bill which was over $10 higher than the previous notice and now $30 higher than my previous bill. I tried their online chat, which was totally frustrating. That representative said they had changed how they did their billing and had added a fee for local channels which had not been there before. I had been with DirecTV for 7 years and hated having to hassle with them every year to lower my bill to a price I was willing to pay. It was the same thing every year, call them up and tell them that my bill was too high and then they would enact some discounts that would save me about $30 a month but were only good for a year. So the next year I'd have to call them up and do it all over again. Well last November when I called to complain about my bill they refused to lower the rate. I guess that now they're a part of AT&T they are unwilling to negotiate on price. So I decided to try switching to DISH. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! DISH suckers you in with their low initial rate but then once you add in extra packages to get what you want it ends up costing MUCH more. I believe their current introductory package starts off at $39. Sounds pretty good right? But wait, you want local channels? Well that's not included. You have to pay an extra $10 a month for that. Who the hell doesn't want local channels?!?! You want a DVR? That's extra also. You have 2 TV's? Yep there's an extra charge for that too. So my monthly bill ended up being $70 a month. That's quite a jump from $39 but still better than I was getting with DirecTV so I decided to go for it. The phone operator told me about the 2 year contract and I told him, "Hey wait a minute. I'm not signing up for 2 years when I haven't even tried your service out yet." I forget what he told me exactly but he definitely gave me the impression that I could cancel if I didn't like the service. When the DISH installer came out to set up my equipment I also asked him about a trial period and he told me I had 30 days to cancel. So everything was going OK until the day of the Super Bowl. We missed the end of the game so I tried to find highlights on ESPN only to find out the package I had did not include ESPN!!!! I called up DISH and was told, "If you want sports channels, that's an extra $10 a month." Gimme a break. What a scam! So now I'd have to pay $80 a month for pretty much basic cable. No pay channels like HBO. I just wanted the standard stuff like Food Network, HGTV, ESPN. So the next higher package was $84 a month and included ESPN but took away DIY and Cooking Channel!!!!! How frickin lame!!! So now I wasn't saving money over DirecTV anymore and decided to cancel the service. I had DISH send out the installer to remove their DISH and take their boxes back. To top it all off now they're trying to charge me a $500 early termination fee even though 2 people at their company told me their was a trial period!! I have filed a complaint with the Denver Better Business Buereau and I will be taking DISH to small claims court if they refuse the waive the fee. Stay far away from this company people. Their channel packages are completely predatory and set up so that the only way you can get the channels you want is to pay for the expensive plans. read more

My wife and I have been Dish subscribers for over five years now. We switched to Dish because we didn't like Comcast television and have had nothing but good experiences with Dish. They offer competitive pricing, a great selection of channels, and their new Hopper equipment is terrific. I love that we can have multiple TVs connected to the same DVR through the Hopper/Joey hardware and watch and record multiple shows simultaneously. The Hopper also records all primetime television automatically and skips commercials automatically too. That is one of my favorite features. A lot of people complain that satellite television is prone to signal problems. But we've only had signal problems a few times and it was usually during a bad storm or something. But that as happened very infrequently. When we moved into our new home, about two years ago, we had Dish come out to install a new satellite dish and new equipment. They upgraded us to the new Hopper for free and replaced our old equipment. I don't think there was any charge for installation, but I can't remember for sure. My only compliant about Dish is that the monthly charge fluctuates. They will put you on a promotional rate when you first sign-up, just like Comcast, and then raise the price after 12 months. However, when our rate has gone up in the past I've called Dish and they've usually put me back on another promotional rate and give me some free movie channels. So big props to making me a happy customer. read more

Dish Network gets zero stars from me because on Friday morning in the middle of the night somebody had messed with my dish outside my house. I called at 8:00 a.m. to get someone to come and fix my dish and I was on hold for over 2 hours I put in for them to call me back nobody called me back for 3 hours then I called back and they said I would get a call back within an hour and a half and again I waited for three and a half hours and nobody called back. I tried calling in the middle of the evening they said that my wait time would be 902 minutes, then I called back again and they said that it would be $1,055 minutes I don't understand how this company can have any business at all when they don't know how to get people to answer the phone or call back. I finally reached somebody today and she told me that it's going to be 24 to 48 hours before they could get a technician out here to fix our television. Worse service ever!! Now if I don't hear from somebody by tomorrow at 2:00 in the afternoon I will disconnect the service myself and I will figure out how to get service with my television. read more

And people wonder why everyone is cutting cords. They don't seem to be too concerned with losing customers to Netflix and Hulu. Moved into an apartment with Dish provided in rent as a required charge. Right off the bat, total signal loss messages. Follow online instructions, nothing. Call them and they schedule a tech to come out at noon the next day, sounds fine. But then it is pushed back to an estimated arrival of EIGHT AT NIGHT. so we spent all day sitting around waiting for the tech to come and it is moved to the end of the entire day. Ended up cancelling the work order. What a joke, we are forced to pay for a service that no one even cares to provide. Shame on Dish. read more

This for anyone that actually looked up Dish Network in yelp haha, allow me to give you a true experience review with Dish Network. Let me first say that Directv and Dish Network are terrible companies, only thing is between them, directv will lie to your face about charges and bills so on. Dish however, they will get you in the customer service area. I was left recently this year without a entire month of Internet service due to employees, mangers and escalations department (legal area) of all kinds, all in the effort to get a modem from where ever, to my house. I called on a Tuesday after the modem just died, they said no problem, well send one out to you, it will take 3-4 business days... well is there anyway to make that overnight? Nope, it's against policy.... ok whatever. 5 business days later... called again, they say that it should be on its way and may just take the week end to get there. Next Monday I call and ask for a manager, they say that it's on the truck still enroute... 2 days later... I call again to, talk to a employee and manager, both don't know what's going on. 2 more days go by, this time I demand that they send out a overnight package with my modem or I will cancel my entire package of service and they do... Next monday... this time I get to escalation department... they say that it never left the shipping department of the postal office and clearly states that on the shipping statement.... The next day I get my modem and $10 off my severe for half a year. It happens again or on little time something goes wrong, I will be switching companies to xfinity. read more

My wife and l have had dish network a four years now All we had was problems. we stayed with them after our second year after our contract was up, because we are not locked in a contract. In the past year I have called them several times because the channel changes, reverses, pauses and Fast forward constantly with out even touching the remote. When I call them they say it's a engineering problem and they will have to turn it over To them but nothing ever happens. Switched to Dish from Comcast 5 months ago. Pricing for what you get is good but buyer beware. You will have to clean off the dish in storms and your service will be unavailable until you do. Additionally the on demand feature is horrible- HORRIBLE. On a minute then loads for a minute then on a minute then loads for a minute and on and on and on - try doing that for an entire show or movie. It downloads at 1 mb max. Called in to see what was going on and how to fix it and I'm told it's my internet connection (I have 20mb download speed). Then the dude tells me he has to start the movie and pause it wait 5 min see what happens. Tried it got 30 minutes in and it started the start stop thing again. Called back was told by manager Aaron that's just how it is and I should have asked more questions before signing up - he was a real ahole. Sounded like this is an issue he has heard many many times before and really didn't care to hear it again. I will be switching back to Comcast once my contract is up. My advice is this if it's about price and price only dish is good. If you want the entire service package to work, on demand and in bad weather, unfortunately Comcast is your only choice. read more

We have been customers of dish network for almost 12 years. We have stayed because initially they had great prices, great customer service as well as all the channels my family loved. In the last 3 years or prices have been slowly rising with no explanation. We lost all of our HD channels this year. When I called them to have someone trouble shoot they had me on the phone for over an hour to tell me they could not figure it out and they would have to send someone out which would cost me $100.00. Unless I signed up for a monthly charge of $8 for a protection package. Which I signed up for. I did not have a tech come out as we decided that our equipment was old and maybe we should upgrade to the hopper. I called back to get this and was told that the price online was only for "new" customers and I would have to pay an additional $19/month then whati was already paying even being a loyal customer! Plus it would be $200 for installion and another $100 for a tech fee. Aren't those the same thing? The tech fee could be waived if I signed up for a $8/month protection package. When I told them I signed up for that already 3 weeks prior the rep told me that it was cancelled on that day I allowed him to pull the call from 3 weeks back and he hung up on me. They are Ok priced at first but for the commercials they play making fun of direct TV it is more of looking in the mirror that they need to do. They lose their loyalty to you after 3 to 4 years. It isn't until you try to cancel that you are recognized as being loyal and long running. That is when the deals come out. I went from 2 TVs on an old DVR no longer receiving my HD channels with Dish for $124/month. To them trying to keep me with a hopper again 2 TVs for $102/month for only 1 year then I am back to my current rate. I moved to Direct TV with 4 wireless genies, HD on all 4 TVs, unlimited on demand, all the same channels for $71/month the first year and then $98/month after that. The best part there is no additional costs for tech service or installation. Not to mention here people are great even when I cancelled something the I also thought we wanted but changed my mind. No questions no 3rd degree nothing. Canceling with Dish was even a worse experience as they were pushy and wouldn't take no for an answer then once they have cancelled they no longer treat you with respectabs talk over you and then get sarcastic. I will never be back to Dish network as they have lost the customer service that once drove me to them. I will gladly pay more in the future for great service. read more

Disappointed with Dish. They promised me 200 stations with their Americas Top 200 plan. I agreed to a deal with a Customer Service Agent for a certain price for the plan. I get my bill a month later and it is a lot higher then the price we agreed upon. He said we can adjust your bill to a lower price but we are going to have to take some stations away (when they say take some stations away they mean take a lot of stations away). I have since called Dish Customer Service three more times and tried to explain I wouldn't have signed such a long term contract for so few stations for that much money a month. They were no help at all. Now I am stuck in a long term contract with Dish with not very many stations. Once you sign the contract, they own you. read more

Run away from this company. They lie, lie ,lie. When I signed up the salesman was bragging how their Hopper 3 DVR system was the best out of all the DVR systems. I was excited. Then I was told I had to put a deposit down. Which I did even though something was telling me not to do it. They came and hooked up the DVR and that was it. They didn't do any of the cables outside. Which I thought was wrong. A month later I noticed that the DVR system was their first generation ( which is a piece of crap), I called them up and told them everything wasn't working so they had sent a different installer out to look at the problem. They then checked all of the cables which were wrong. Then I asked for a upgrade on the DVR. I was told that there was another deposit. For what? All they want is money. My husband looked at the DVR and was fuming. It had Blockbuster on the front of it. Well there are no Blockbusters in Utah. So beware this company will bleed you dry. I'm disabled and I watch a lot of TV, they are the worse tv service out there. I had nothing but problems with that company. DirecTV Now and Xfinity are both better companies and they don't nickle and dime you. Plus they won't give me back the deposit. read more

This might be the most crooked television company that I have ever worked with. I switched to DISH network from Comcast because of the growing cost of my cable subscription. I initially debated between DISH and Directv but came down on the side of DISH network after exploring their programming options and seeing that they were offering 1 year of HBO free. The problems with DISH started almost immediately with delayed installation (I had made plans for a window in the early morning and the technician did not show up until almost 5 PM and after numerous calls). Since then it has been nothing but a bumpy ride and terrible service. The hopper box randomly loses internet connection, making it very difficult to watch streaming video on demand and the closed captioning feature takes up most of the screen. I was also promised a Hopper that would record numerous shows simultaneously but instead only records up to 4 at once. The nail in the coffin for me is the false advertising DISH used to sign me up. After initially signing up for the HBO for one year package, this month (month three) I was sent an email letting me know that all of my trial programming (STARZ, HBO, etc) will be charged starting next month. A call in does nothing and I was only told that they don't know why I didn't qualify for the offer after all and there is no way to look up why. Stay away from this company at all costs as they use false advertising to draw you in and offer an inferior product. If it were not so costly to jettison them, I would do so immediately. read more
