I'm staying in East Lansing for work and my tire went as flat as a pancake. Costco made me wait over two hours, said I had to replace all four tires, and would only give me credit for the flat one. It was going to be over $900. I called this discount tire almost in tears. They found me a great option in my budget and told me they would install even though they were closing in less than 15 minutes. Everyone was so nice and it was the cleanest auto shop I have EVER seen. I wish I remembered the name of the guy I talked to (he checked me in), but he's literally the best. Well, not the Okemos, MI location. I will get the name of the sales guy that "helped" my daughter and revise this review. This guy was rude, not helpful, and tried to take advantage of my daughter. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Here's the situation ...she took our Buick Encore up to MSU. Reliable car. Low miles. Just under 40,000. When she was inspecting her flat tire, she saw a nail. I said to her, "well, get it fixed and for the little driving you do, when you come home for fall break or Thanksgiving, we're about due for new tires." Now, let me share what Dumb-bleep Tire Sales Guy told my daughter. "These tires are pretty much slicks. Which means they're bald. I'm not sure I feel comfortable plugging it. It probably won't take and it wouldn't be safe." She texted me. I didn't like that answer so I asked him to price out 1 tire. Sales Guy: "You don't buy 1 tire. That's less safe than even if I gave you a plug. You really need all four tires." She texted me. I told her to tell him, well, new tires this month aren't in the budget. If you could just plug it and fix it, that will do. Sales Guy: "If you can't afford tires, you probably can't afford this car." A Buick. With around 40,000 miles on the original tires. With a nail in it. And I'm negotiating and politely trying to say, hey, I'd like to wait on a $400+ purchase and I just would like the tire fixed so my daughter can get around town ...where she drives less than 10 miles a week ...and then home at break. I called my local Detroit-area Midas (on Woodward and 14 Mile and the most honest, amazing bunch of dudes ANYWHERE) and they laughed at the absurdity. I called my Master Mechanic Cousin and he also said this sounds stupid, but send a picture of the tire and put a penny in the tread so I can assess. He, too, laughed. The tires are FINE! Just needed a plug. And if Dumbo Tire Sales Guy would've been helpful, honest, and given her an estimate, I might've sent her back to get new tires. Right around 40,000 miles is about the time to replace and before winter is smart (and I CAN afford it, Dumbo). Reluctantly and while rolling his eyes, Dumbo sighed at my daughter and got her in line to get a plug. Luckily, the actual guy out in the shop who plugged the tire did it, didn't charge my daughter any money, and when she asked him about the tread and if she should drive carefully or at low speeds, he placed his tread measuring device into the tread and said, oh, no, these are fine. You've probably got 5,000 more miles. You're all set. Whoever that guy is ...I'd like to find him and buy him a case of beer or tip him a $20. The other guy? I'd like to ask him about his wife, mother, sister, grandmother, or his own daughter if he has one and how he would like it if someone who should know better treated any of them like idiots. Called for an "out the door quote" for 4 specific tires. Was quoted "out the door" $772. Made an appointment for 2 days later. Had the tires replaced and was charged $872. Didn't realize the difference until a few hours later. Reviewing the receipt a $25 per tire "certificate for refund" was added to the invoice without ever being offered or accepted. Called the Okemos location and was advised that "generally" they offer the certificate and "most people" accept the certificate. Of course it's typically accepted because they do not tell people about it - they simply add it to the invoice. They apologize and offer to refund this; which I accepted. My question is - how may other people have been charged this amount and never had the certificate explained? My guess is multiple. Additionally, this is printed right on the invoice: https://www.discounttire.com/customer-service/certificates did not discuss certificates. That clearly indicates that they were added without the consumers knowledge. I've had similar experience with Leanne P. My tire was punctured by something that caused the loss of pressure (indicator light on); so I made an appointment online. The next day, I found out that, that morning would actually work better than the scheduled time (5:30 PM). This place is great. I came in nearly half an hour after they closed with a rear tire that was completely blown. I had tried to change the tire and put the spare on, but it was stuck on their extremely tightly. Try as I may, I could not get the tire off. So, I hazarded the short 1/3 mile drive ("hazarded" is a good word to describe it...this thing should not have been driven) after trying, unsuccessfully, to get the tire off. In the rain. Yes, I know that sounds cliche. But, it was raining. (thankfully, it didn't start *pouring* until I got here...but, I digress). What I really wanted was them to help me get the tire off, so I could change it and come back in the morning for the replacement. Because it was late. And I know they wanted to get home to their families. After all, they all have better things to do than work on my car an hour after close. But they were tremendously gracious - if there was any hint of annoyance in either the technician or the general manager, it wasn't obvious to me. And, after they saw that tire and my front one (which was also about to burst...but that's a different story), they said they'd go ahead and replace them for me (which was going to have to get done anyways; hence, why I was planning to come back in the morning). So, here I am, nearly an hour after their close and my car is in the bay, being worked on by a team who was willing to stay up and open, well past their obligated time. These guys are great. I was having an already non-tire-related stressful day when I went in to replace my worn down tires. They recommended a good brand in my price range. When they realized they couldn't service my tires due to a safety recall affecting my car, they walked me through what that meant and how to fix it in a way that my car-and-tire-illiterate mind could understand. I have visited twice in the past 3 years. The first time, they installed new tires and afterwards my car was no longer in alignment. I went back to ask about it and they said it was already like that (it wasn't). The second time I visited was today, for a tire rotation. I got back home to see that one of the wheel studs (similar idea to a lugnut) was missing. I went back and guess what, they said it was already like that (it wasn't). Have been going here for the last 2 years and slowly becoming more disappointed. I asked for them to change out three spark plugs because I couldn't reach them and they said it's not a good day and that I needed to get receipts for the plugs to match, rather than just pulling out one of the new ones and match the number. Then I was told about 1 hour 20 minutes until they can rotate my tires which was fine. I watched several customers go in front of me and finish while I sat in the lobby for for almost 2 1/2 hours. I scheduled an appt. two weeks in advance after unsuccessfully being able to get a walk- in appt. when my appt. day finally came I had to wait in line behind 5 walk-ins. By the time my car actually made it into the garage it was an hour after my scheduled appt time. When I asked the guy at the desk how long it would take he told me an hour. Just got back from my first ever tire change on my car. I arrived at my 5:00 appointment about 10 minutes early as the website said and was told the customer for the 5:30 appointment was there so they would be going before me. I was told my wait would be 45 minutes, and that ended up being just the time until my car was in the garage. After 1 hour and 20 minutes I finally got my car back. The staff seemed to do their job on each car in a timely manner and the manager was friendly, but the manager did not seem to care that I had set up an appointment and been right on time. What is the point in setting an appointment if discount tire just puts me in as any other walk in appointment? Also the person with the 5:30 appointment didn't even have their car being worked on, they simply came half an hour early and stole my spot. I think I will be paying AFTER my car is serviced in the future, and I will try other tire dealerships that actually care about their customers' time. read more

I've had good experiences with discount tire at many of their different locations in michigan. This one stands out for me, due to one of their employees actually going out of his way to help me one day! I had a flat tire in my apartment parking lot and was desperately trying to change it with a friend, and obviously on the struggle bus. A man driving by in the parking lot stopped and asked if we needed help. He said he had a better jack for me to use (since mine was pathetic and wasn't doing squat to lift my car). I said yes and he immediately drove over to his apartment building across the lot, parked, and brought over his jack. He did everything for us! We just stood back and watched. He completely changed my tire and even checked the pressure in my spare. He said it needed a few more pounds and that I should drive it right over to the discount tire and that I could leave it overnight and they would take care of it in the morning since it was a sunday night. When I asked "really? are you sure I can do that?" he said "Yea, I work there. They'll take care of it." I asked for his name, and it was Michael. I thanked him over and over and went to put air in my spare and rush it over to the discount tire since my spare also had a small leak and wouldn't last me long. We left it there and the next day went back over to get everything straightened out, sure enough by the morning even my spare was flat. The employees were so helpful and in the end they repaired my original tire and put it back on all for FREE. As long as the tire is repairable they always do this for free and then just send you on your way. read more
